I had refractive lens exchange about 2 months ago. I'm under 40 but was extremely far sighted. This procedure has truly changed my life! I just finished having cataracts removed from both eyes by Dr. Miller of Advanced Valley Eye Assocates. He did the surgeries at Sutter West Hospital in Davis. I did not look forward to a scalpel on my eyes. However, the first operation (my right eye) was far less scarey than I thought it would be. Dr. Miller talked to me all through the procedure and that greatly reduced my anxiety. The Sutter staff and nurses were also very supportive. I was amazed by the results to my vision in terms of acuity, contrast sensitivity, and color. Indeed, I was facinated during the three weeks between this first operation and the next one on my left eye. Particularly, the difference in colors of things viewed by each eye individually was dramatic, e.g. red vs. brown, white vs. yellow, green vs. blue. The second operation went equally as well as the first. I now highly recommend this operation to family and friends should they ever need it. I had my LASIK eye surgery done almost two months ago now, and I am very happy with my decision and with the doctor I chose. I was referred to Dr. Miller by a family's friend who also had Lasik surgery done here. By the end of the initial consultation I felt very confident and comfortable and decided to schedule my surgery right away. Dr. Miller was professional, knowledgeable, and very detailed about the surgery, my options there, and what to expect. He had listened to my concerns and was able to find a perfect solution for my situation. I was wearing contacts for over 20 year and recently noticed that I needed reading glasses. So, I wanted to get good far vision and still be able to read without glasses for as long as I can. The options to correct my vision were selected just perfect for me and now I can enjoy my life without any contacts or glasses. The surgery was a relatively fast procedure, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The Doctor was explaining every step I was going through and that helped me to be very comfortable and calm. I followed the instructions for the post-op care and the next morning I was able to drive myself to the check-up appointment. It is amazing how fast our eyes can heal. Dr. Miller performed my Lasix surgery a year ago, correcting my astigmatism and nearsightedness. The staff was very kind day of procedure, and Dr. Miller did an excellent job of easing my nerves and explaining what he was doing each step of the Lasix procedure. Dr. Miller and his office staff have always done a great job monitoring my progress and offering support and assistance. The only thing I noticed (mixed blessings) is that the office this last appt is much busier than a year ago (good for Dr. Miller's business, bad for wait time). I am neither a relative nor a friend of Dr. Robert Miller, but I am a follower. The first time I had Lasik surgery was in 2001 on the left eye. I went in not able to read clearly and came out and was able to read the same font so clear I felt it was a miracle. It took me five years to decide to do this. Regretfully I should have decided to do the Lasik surgery sooner because of the great results I had. When I went to my first appointment the eye exam was at no cost. I thought I needed surgery on both eyes and it turned out I only needed on the left eye because I was monovision. After the exam Dr. Miller and his staff did not pressure me to have the Lasik surgery. He made arrangements for me to wear a contact on the left eye so I could get an idea of what my vision would be like after the surgery, this too at no cost. Six years after I had my left eye done, I had the other eye done (the right eye), and that experience was indescribable. It is interesting how your vision is blurred before you walk in to have the surgery and you come out seeing things sharper than ever. To the person that claims to have had a bad experience with their eight year old daughter, I can only say, I referred my 10 year old niece to Dr. Miller. Her father took her in and they were very pleased with the outcome. I call Dr. Miller "Magic Miller", because my vision was improved the moment I had my Lasik surgery done on the left eye. I've wanted lasik surgery done for years, but never actually went through with the procedure due to life getting in the way. I was finally in a position to start educating myself further to make my final decision if I wanted to go through with the surgery. I had done research on Dr. Miller prior to my consultation, so I felt I was prepared. But there was so much more to learn about the equipment, how it works, and the importance of the high tech equipment being updated and calibrated before every surgery day. It was a wonderful experience from the first day I called I felt welcomed and comfortable. The day of my surgery Dr. Miller could tell I was nervous so he gave me a stuffed dog to hold onto. I'm a 24 year old woman and I love that I didn't have to do it alone, even if it was just a stuffed animal, it gave me comfort. I had such a great experience I would highly recommend to anyone who is scared of the procedure, or just thinking about it and wanted to get information, Dr. Miller is your professional you want to go to. Very friendly, outgoing, and compassionate to each patients needs and lifestyles. I enjoy my commute up to my appointments because I know it'll be such a pleasant experience. My surgery was in May 2015 and that very same day after 8 hours of rest, I opened my eyes and I could see the time on the clock across my bedroom. Wow! Terrible just terrible! Never have I had to wait two hours for an appointment, not once but twice. On top of that, I was not the only person in the waiting room with the same issue. Furthermore, my second appointment I was asked to leave and return two hours later, when I left I had to wait an additional hour on top of the one I had waited the first time I came in that day. I can't recommend this place to anyone, regardless of how my surgery went, simply based on the terrible service and wait time. read more

Theres not going to be enough room to say how happy I am with Dr Miller and his staff. I just had cataract surgery in both eyes and have gone from not being able to pass a DMV test to 20/15 in my right eye and 20/20 in my left. And I just had the surgery in my left yesterday. You will never find an optometrist that will take care of you and walk you through the whole process so easily and caring as they do. They literally treat you like family. Im 55 and can see better than I have ever been able to in my whole life. I truly can't express how much I appreciate everything they have done for me. And I also have to include the Surgery center in Vacaville where they do the procedure. The nurses there are amazing. They couldn't do a better job at making you feel comfortable and stress free of the whole deal. I love meeting someone like Dr Miller that is so passionate about his work as he is. I scheduled my elderly father an appt for an eye exam, I noticed his vision just wasn't what it used to be. My mother has now healed from her cataract surgery and has one more appt to go. My dad was pleased with her results so he decided to see Dr Miller for his eye exam. My dad was a bit nervous but he felt really comfortable during the exam. My husband was their translating for him and explaining things so he would understand. Dr Miller performed an extensive eye exam at no additional cost because he was concerned with what he was seeing in my dads eyes. I was super shocked but it goes to show that he is a very good eye dr. Even though the news wasn't so great after explaining things to my dad and the pros and cons of what he has going on with his eyes my dad accepted to see a specialist that he will be referred to. My dads very stubborn and typically he doesn't listen to the any Dr, but he sure did listen to Dr Miller. After his eye exam my dad even asked my mom for all his medications he hasn't been taking on a regular basis to control his diabetes and blood pressure which have greatly affected his vision. I will be back their Wednesday for my moms last check up since her surgery, her vision has definitely improved since her procedure. Overall advanced valley eye and Dr Miller have become the family eye Dr. As for me any time my PCP needs an eye exam I go to them and they send my results right away since I had a pituitary adenoma removed I get eye exams to make sure nothing else is growing and pressing on my optic nerves or causing me to lose my peripheral vision when any lab work is abnormal. So far so good.. No complaints for anyone on my end. read more

I had an incredible experience with Dr. Miller and his staff on many levels. I was referred to him for LASIK by my sister and brother-in-law, both of whom had LASIK surgery there and had very positive experiences. The office is laid out in a way that made me very comfortable during my short waits to see the doctor- hot coffee, cookies, good magazines, and good flow of traffic. It wasn't like sitting in a sterile, somber, cold office like some of the other places I've been. On my first visit I enjoyed looking through the albums from the Doctor's trips to Mexico to work in a clinic there- inspiring and appreciated- my grandfather did something similar. I see some reviews that had a longer wait than I experienced and I want to point out that in my experience a longer wait wasn't due to poor scheduling but a symptom of the quality of care provided. They are willing to take the time with each person and not rush them. One of my appointment days an emergency came in and it delayed my appointment- they were very apologetic but I understand that if someone has a major issue then it needs to be dealt with immediately- having good sight is such a gift. The office staff immediately put me at ease. I was quite nervous on my LASIK day but each person I spoke with leading up to it was so encouraging, smiled at me, shared their personal stories and seemed to truly care. Elizabeth is fantastic. A few of the many things that I appreciated were that Dr. Miller made sure (several times) that I had realistic expectations. He makes eye contact (not just when he's examining them) and makes a point to shake my hand and make personal contact. He encouraged me, even though I'm 34, to have my parents come to the whole LASIK appointment- to watch and not just show up to pick me up. That was truly wonderful, my parents helped calm my nerves and were a comfort to have nearby. And they enjoyed watching (gross)! They loved that Elizabeth took the time to explain what was happening on the screen. During the surgery Dr. Miller was so wonderful- he joked, had music on but paid close attention to my reactions to each step and explained what he was doing. I felt like I was in good hands and . Afterwards he coached me on my medications and made it clear that he was available to me if I had any problems or concerns. In the follow up appointments I was ecstatic and he was genuinely excited for my results- I would refer anyone to him. It was a fabulous experience all around and I look forward to my 6 month checkup. Oh and I now have 20/20 in my left eye and 20/15 in my right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's Amazing- like a new world and I'm still astounded every morning when I wake up and can see so well! read more

I can't say enough about Dr. Miller and the entire staff at Advanced Valley Eye Associates! After wearing glasses and contacts for over 20 years, I saw AVEA for Lasik and am 2 days post-op with results I never thought would be possible. From my initial evaluation, I was treated wonderfully by the entire staff at AVEA, in particular Jackie and Dr. Miller himself. On surgery day, I was extremely nervous but Dr. Miller was patient with me and talked me through everything and I was in and out in about 20 mins. My husband was able to watch the procedure and was also walked through everything that was going on by Jackie, who made sure we knew exactly what to do and answered every question we had for post-op. I went to my post-op appt the next day and was told for the first time in my life that I had 20/20 vision. Dr. Miller called me on his day off to make sure I was doing alright and making sure that I didn't need anything, just one more reason I know I made the right choice in choosing AVEA and Dr. Miller for this procedure. Even though they perform Lasik on people all of the time and the procedure is nothing knew to them, they treat you with the understanding that this is a big deal to you. They go the extra mile to make sure that you are doing alright and make sure you know that you are their priority. I would highly recommend Dr. Miller, Jackie, and the entire staff at AVEA. Called the office because my contact prescription expired, I was told they would not renew my prescription without being see. I told them the prescription I was using was fine and I didn't need to be seen. They never explain why it was only good for 1 year. When I ask to speak to a doctor I was told that would not be possible, I asked why I was told the doctor would tell me the samething. When I tried to given them my phone number to please have the doctor call they hung up on me. I guess they don't need my business or my recommendation to friends and family. read more

I can't say enough about Dr. Miller and his incredible staff. My Puppy clawed my right eye and tore open my cornea. I couldn't sleep it hurt so bad. Went to the ER next day when I should have gone to Dr. Miller's office. Thinking the ER knew what they were doing - I took the meds I was prescribed. My eyelid stuck to my eyeball. Two days after my original injury I saw my primary MD and she called Dr. Miller and got me a same day appointment. Dr. Miller changed my medications and my vision went from fogged glass and low visibility to 95% in less than 24 hours. I arrived to my appointment 1 hour early and they still got me in right away without waiting. I was amazed. His staff were very accommodating and friendly. Dr. Miller himself had a wonderful bedside manner and if I EVER have another eye problem, question or concern I will not hesitate to go see him. SO INCREDIBLY IMPRESSED! I had Lasik with Dr. Miller and the entire process, start to finish, blew my mind. This happened *yesterday* - beforehand, I had a -6.5 prescription, and this morning I drove myself to the post-op follow up!! and now I am comfortably typing this. It is seriously the most incredibly thing I have ever experienced in my life, and I can already tell it's more than worth the money. This doctor and the entire office is fantastic. Elizabeth, the Lasik coordinator, was wonderful at explaining everything super clearly, from the procedure through the finances (they give you a price for everything start to finish, no surprises or extra fees, and you can finance it over one year through Care Credit). There is no hard sell here - I didn't feel pressured into anything; they're not salespeople at all. Dr. Miller has been doing Lasik since the moment it was FDA approved in the 90s. He was extremely clear and communicative, friendly and compassionate. I was completely at ease and really trusted this team with my eyesight. The procedure itself was actually really cool to experience - you don't feel any pain; there is a feeling for a few seconds that something is pushing down pretty hard on your eye, but it's over quickly (they give you Valium, but the little stuffed dog to hold was a sweet touch too :) ). You see strange lights and rings of different colors that come in and out of focus, and Dr. Miller and his assistant talk you through everything. If you are in or near Davis and want to check out Lasik, come to Dr. Miller - so competent, so friendly, so efficient. Highly, highly recommended. read more
