This morning, I had a nail stuck in my tire, so I went to get it patched. The employee there checked the tire and told me there were two nails, so it couldn't be patched and that I needed to replace the tire. Then he said that for balance reasons, I would have to replace all the tires. For reference, my tires were only 6 months old. I asked if I could just replace one tire, but he said no and insisted that all the tires had to be replaced. He then quoted me over $1,000 for the replacement. I was shocked, so I went to another shop. They fixed it with a patch, and it only cost me $40. This place is a complete scam--do not get ripped off. read more

I wish I could leave no scars. Huge disappointment. One in 45 minutes before they closed asked them to put some air in my tires. I literally have to be downtown tomorrow at 7 AM with an infant in my car. By the way I told him I don't feel safe driving my car. It's 12 pounds under each tire pipe. He says I'm sorry I cannot do it. Come back tomorrow morning at 7 AM. I said what's the difference it's the same temperature that it is today right now that it will be at seven in the morning. Plus, I have to be downtown by seven. Needless to say there is no supervisor around and three kids in their early 20s were working at the place. So I went down the street to just tires. He filled it up for me no problem. Took my car inside. Filled it up in five minutes. I would take an extra trip and go down to just tires east of Dundee. I've come here twice now, once when I had to get a tire replaced because there was a nail hole, and once for an oil change. Their prices are not necessarily a bargain, but seem fair. They are timely about getting the work done. I also appreciate the mechanic, Paul, for being friendly, honest, and helpful. Twice when my car has said it had low tire pressure, he's jumped up and checked it (even in the middle of a food break) and helped me to reset/calibrate the sensor. Went in for a tire replacement because I had a flat, made the appointment online and everything but when I got there I was told that they couldn't replace just one tire that they had to do both or all 4 I told them I only needed one for right now to get it fixed and he said he couldn't do it and I had already paid online and everything, the charge was on my account for a week before I was able to get my money back. And the guy was very rude about it telling me the tire I bought didn't fit in my car even though on their page it said it did. I stopped twice at this location to get my tires check. Both times, Patric, the manager was helpful and got me in queue even though I was a walk-in. He was very sympathetic that I didn't know a lot about cars and answered any questions I had. Jose was also very nice and friendly and took care of the leak in my tire. I would say that overall, this location seem to be very thorough and helpful. In the end, I was able to repair my leak for about $20 and they ran an overall complimentary inspection check. They even stayed a bit past closing time to finish the work on my car. I also liked that they did not pressure any services and made me feel comfortable to be there. It's been a week and my car is driving well with no issues with the tire they worked on. I would visit this location again for future automotive needs. read more

Ok ill try and be as subjective as possible. Per Bridgestone/Firestone warranty guidelines any tire within 4 years of purchase and subject to dry rot and cupping is then replaced under warranty at a prorated charge. Meaning you will pay for the mount and balance Took my vehicle into the store and Pete said we will take care of it Pete ( Manager i assume ) came up to me and said tire wont be covered. Nail in tire will be covered and it wont cost you anything . When i said to him that it is covered he responded " well you are mistAken as " cupping " is from poor wheel alignment or bent suspension components. Funny since i just had my inspection done at HoNda and they didn't find anything out of the ordinary. Hmmmm....... He then proceeded to tell me we have tires at $122 and that they can replace it within 20 min. With all the arguing back and forth i would of been out of there already. Turns out that the paper work takes approx 22 min to fill out for warranty. And its just quicker to sell a tire. I get it we are in a global pandemic and stores are not making money but warranty is there for a reason. Shame on you Pete. Tool my vehicle to Firestone on Waukegan road in Deerfield Illinois. Recently had my Toyota repaired here after engine light came on. When I brought in the car, I was told that the diagnostic charge would be around $150. I said OK, but I asked if that charge could be applied agaist the repair charge. The sales person said "Yes." When I picked up and paid for the car, a different sales person said that the diagnostic charge couldn't come off the bill. I had been thinking of bringing my auto servicing to Firestone. Brought our work van in and was told we need a new heater core. Quote was for around 700. Thought that was high and wanted to get another estimate. So they charged us $25. Thought estimates were free? Took it to another local mechanic and he replaced the heater core, hoses along with new coolant for 300. Buyer beware going to this Firestone. They will overcharge if you're not a wise consumer. The other mechanic was shocked they were charging that much. Firestone told me they had to take the dash apart and it was quite a project. The other mechanic said the Ford van is the easiest to access the heater core and you do not have to remove the dash. Buyer beware! NOT going back to this overpriced shop!! read more

Bought tires from Tirerack and they recommended Firestone to install them. Next day, had a slow leak in one of the tires, but Firestone was too busy to see me. So I took my car to Pep Boys. They found that Firestone lost one of the lug nuts! I called them, and they said they'd mail me a new lug nut. A week later, no lug nut, no call, nothing. I called them, and they said they had it but couldn't ship it, but I could come in, and they'd give me the lug nut. I got there, and they gave me the lug nut, but said I'd have to wait half an hour before they'd have time to put it on for me! Not knowing any better, I put it on to finger tightness (I couldn't find my tire iron) and I found out how Firestone must have lost the original lug nut. By the time I got home, it was gone. read more

Called the store an hour before closing because my tire was rapidly losing air, they told me they couldn't get it in until tomorrow morning. I went in to drop the car off so it didn't lose any more tire pressure, when talking to the associate they let me know they could knock it out really quickly right then. A huge life saver. read more

My car always seems to come out of here worse than I left it. Two instances in particular stand out: Several years ago I went to get a routine oil change. Upon leaving, I lost a bunch of protective plates off the bottom of my car on the highway. I'm convinced this happened because they did not properly secure the panels underneath the car after working on it. They offered me a free oil change as compensation, but I stopped going to them for a few years. Fast forward to this week, another routine oil change. This time, I manage to see an oil fluid leak almost immediately after leaving. This may be their fault, it may not be their fault, but I think the two instances are too close together to be coincidence. Either way, they wanted more than $800 to fix it. I took it to a dealer for a second opinion, who fixed it for less than $250. It doesn't seem like they do a good job, they're not reliable, they're not reasonable on price, and I seem to always run into problems with them. Definitely avoiding this shop at all costs in the future. Edit: I'm being told by the people working on it now that it's likely the work done by Firestone did more damage than good. They said since the last time I took it in with them (the oil change once before Firestone) there's a couple stripped screws, bolts with broken off heads, and some heavy glue that leaked into the oil pan. So a routine oil change by Firestone is going to cost me several hundred dollars. read more

Brought our vehicle in for repairs. My son thought there was some issues with the drive train and asked if they could look at it. They said bring it in. Car was making an obvious noise from the drive train. They diagnosed a bad wheel bearing and cupped tires. Tried to sell us new tires. We had them rotate the tires since we weren't going to keep the vehicle long. We let them fix the wheel bearing. When they called that it was ready they told us we should see another shop to diagnose the power train issue. Why would they say bring it in to them if they dont do that type of work. Basically they found something on a 12 year old vehicle but did not fix the actual problem we asked them to look at. Been a long time customer of Firestone but that's the last time I patronize them. I'm putting a stop payment on the bill also. read more

I'll be honest - I drive a P.O.S. car (1997 Grand Am, woot!), so I am very familiar with the breakdown and repair process, and I have always gone to Firestone for my repairs because, even if they're a little pricier, they have never let me down and with a car like mine, I'll pay a little extra for some peace of mind. One night my car overheated (smoking engine and everything) and broke down on the highway (which was 15 minutes after I picked it up from a different body shop who SWORE that it was running perfectly), so I had it towed to this location because it was close, but I had never actually been here before. I figured it would be like any other Firestone so I wasn't too concerned. From the moment I spoke to them on the phone about my car, and throughout my entire repair process, these guys were absolutely wonderful. Tony and Mike (the two guys up front) were so helpful, and it was refreshing to have someone talk to me about my car like I'm a regular person, because most mechanics I've worked with assume that since I am a woman, I can't possibly understand the complex nature of cars or mechanical things, so they need to talk to me like a five year old just to make sure I'm "getting it." Not these guys...they were honest, upfront, and so informative, and I felt confident letting them work on my crappy car. However, the moment that really cemented their superior customer service was when my car still had about an hour more to go before it was finished, which was a problem for me because I had an urgent prescription to pick up at the pharmacy, which was closing in fifteen minutes. Mike actually volunteered himself and drove me to the pharmacy and back to the shop so I could make it in time and still be able to get everything I needed. I would NEVER expect anyone working in an auto repair shop to be that kind and generous to just any customer, and it honestly made the whole repair process infinitely better and less stressful. Long story short, my car is in perfect condition now (thanks to the entire staff), and I know that, should the inevitable future repairs crop up, there is only one place I will be taking my car, and this is it. Save yourself the hassle and headache of dealing with some random greasemonkey at a crappy shop, and go here. I guarantee you that you will be just as impressed and happy as I was. read more

I had a malfunctioning air-conditioner that needed fixing, I got a printed estimate from a Chicago auto-shop that was about $500 and wanted to get it fixed from this location as it was closer to my home. The person seemed knowledgeable and looked at the print-out and gave me an estimate of over $700 with the likelihood of further increases if they find new issues. I ended up going to Richards body shop in Arlington heights, though once they opened it they found additional issues that increased the total cost but overall I felt that the same job would have costed me at least 30% more at this Firestone location. One possible reason was that the Firestone employees behaved like corporate employees without any desire to attract business and match competition whereas at Richards the atmosphere was more entrepreneurial with desire to attract business and good feedback. If you are paying through your nose then instead of going to Firestone why not go to a full-fledged dealer who may throw in a loaner car or other freebies. read more

Same old chain store. Seems the Almighty Dollar is more important that anything else. Peter said I had an oil leak on my 2008 Hyundai Azera, which had a 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty. I bought this car used. He quoted me $600 I believe and so I took it to another shop and the person who owns it is an old friend of my mothers' son. Semeria Imports. It was repaired, under warranty. I went back to Peter at Firestone and bought a set of tires. He said I needed a 4-wheel alignment, cost $200 WITH a coupon. I took the car to Thalmans in Glenview and had it done for $100 out the door. Last week I took the car in to have the 4 wheels rotated. Peter said that I had the same gasket leaking oil, quoted me again, 3 arms, a leg and an ear. I took the car back to Semeria Imports and I was told that the leak was coming from the timing chain cover. YES, this car HAS a timing chain, not a belt. So, if I would have listened to Peter and had the same gasket replaced for said appendages mentioned earlier, I would have still had an oil leak, AND be about several hundred dollars lighter in my wallet. Peter claims that I should get all of this done because I have a CREDIT CARD. Uhm, Sparky I still need to pay the credit card bill! Will I go to Firestone again? Yes, but not this store, and only for tires!Either Peter is a thief or his mechanics are stoned schleps! Do NOT trust this store!!!!!!!! read more

This is not one of the better Firestone locations I've been to. I recently had scheduled some major work that was going to take the better part of a day. They don't offer a shuttle or loaner cars, so I arranged to work remotely that day from Panera across the street. After about an hour, they call and say they don't have the parts and can't get them today. The guy proceeds to tell me that they don't actually order the parts until you show up that day (even though I had scheduled the appointment well in advance) - so , I basically wasted a bunch of time and then had to make the same arrangements again the following week to come back. This was super frustrating. I asked for a discount when I was finally done and was given a discount that was actually no more than I would have gotten anyways by using my Firestone card. The manager goes out of his way to be nice, but it does not translate into the service. The worst part of all this is that the $900 service I had done was supposed to fix a burning smell that had been coming from my car. $900 and two wasted work days later, my car still has a burning smell :( I'm normally a big fan of Firestone (a lot because of the 6months no interest card, lifetime alignment and free tire rotation) but not this particular location. read more

This is a lengthy post, but I shared my whole experience, sorry! Hope you all can read this and be prepared before coming here so the same thing won't happen to you. I know Firestone is a big chain, but I cannot believe the horrible service I received from them. Last Saturday, I stopped by to get an oil change and saw they were quite busy. The manager working at that time told me that if I wanted to get an oil change that day, my car wouldn't be ready for 7 hours (I got there at 11am and he said it won't be done till 6pm) I completely understood since they were busy, and while I was debating if I should just deal with it, he told me he can schedule me on Sunday afternoon. He said he could get me in and out since they weren't busy at all. Max time would take an hour. I agreed to that and set an APPOINTMENT at 2pm. Sunday comes and I arrive at Firestone at 1:45pm to drop off my car and noticed it was a different manager. His name is Patric, he seemed like a nice guy and before I left, I confirmed with him THREE times that it will only be an hour and he said yes every single time and told me that he will call me when my car is finished. I waited and it was now 4pm and I never got a call... so I decided to go back to Firestone to see what was going on. RED FLAG #1. I notice that my car is in the EXACT same place I parked TWO hours ago RED FLAG #2. Patric then tells me that my car wasn't worked on because they were so "busy". RED FLAG #2. That makes absolutely no sense because I didn't see any other cars or people and the previous manager AND Patric told me that it would only take an hour because they weren't busy. Then Patric tells me that "I'm next in line" and my car will be ready in an hour. RED FLAG #4. I leave and come back exactly an hour later and notice that my car is still up on that machine. Not finished. RED FLAG #5. Patric then has the audacity to ask me to wait 10 more minutes (which I ended up waiting ANOTHER hour) and that the mechanic will just finish up. RED FLAG #6. Patric goes into the garage and I notice the mechanic isn't even working on MY car. He is working on some random car that is parked behind mine. RED FLAG #7. Absolutely ridiculous! Eventually, my car is finally done and I waited a total of FOUR hours. RED FLAG #8. I tell Patric as I'm leaving, to be considerate of their customers and make us feel that we are being taken care of. I didn't yell or anything, I wanted to be understanding. He then tells me the reason why they took so long was because he put OTHER people BEFORE my car to get fixed because he didn't think it was that important and that I could've waited until closing time to get my car. RED FLAG #9. Umm no, why would I have made an APPOINTMENT the day before, confirmed three times with Patric that it'll only take an hour, and he told me the reason why my car wasn't worked on yet the first time I went back was because they were "busy". (We're talking 1.5 years here.) When I went out to start my car the battery was dead. They offered to replace it and even had a price ready. One of the most basic things they teach you in auto mechanics class is how to use a torque wrench and the importance of appropriately torquing bolts. Too little, they come undone. Too much and you risk damaging the parts they attach. Last month I brought my car to this shop to have a flat repaired on the right rear snow tire. They wound up removing both rear wheels as there was a misunderstanding over which tire had the flat. This past weekend, I switched over to the summer wheels and tires, doing the work myself in my garage. The front wheels, installed by me, were correctly torqued to 90 ft-lbs. The wheel bolts broke loose easily with the use of my 250-ft lb capacity impact wrench. The rears, installed by this Firestone location wouldn't budge. It took the use of a three foot breaker bar being stomped on with all of my weight - more than 200 lbs to pop them loose. Most likely these bolts were installed using a commercial impact air gun with a capacity of 400 lbs or more. The right way to do it is to spin the bolts in with the wrench, stopping when they just hit resistance, then use a torque wrench to torque the bolts to the right tightness. This shop clearly just used their air wrench at full power, badly over-torquing the bolts, risking warping my brake rotors, potentially cracking the wheel or worse. Why am I making a big deal out of too-tight bolts? Because it is a basic measure of mechanic skills. If you can't get changing a tire right, how can you be trusted to do something more complex than changing the tire? Beware of this shop. read more
