It should be called disadvantage caravans! The RV they rented to us was 13 years old and falling apart. The city water connection was broken forcing us to use the water tank instead. The license plate tag had been ripped off... Lucky we didn't get stopped. The floor feels like it's about to cave in. The vehicle has over 100,000 miles. We just returned August 3rd 2024 from a 3 night trip to Half Moon Bay, rented the 2014 RV, a 31ft Itasca. Alex was VERY flexible with the pick up time, we were able to pick up the day before our trip and get things packed up. Alex had the unit cleaned and washed, and had the fridge/freezer nice and cold for us, so we were able to pack food for the trip as well!! The RV was very dependable, ran strong and was surprisingly not too bad on gas, we only used $137 of regular gas (32 gallons) for our entire trip! Advantage Caravans has NO hidden fees, provided insurance (since my Mercury coverage did not extend coverage), and did not "upsell" any additional charges....a very straightforward, simple, and professional business transaction. We have let our friends and family know about Advantage Caravans, and spread the word at the campground, where we met others from the Sacramento area that wanted to have family members rent an RV too! Do not rent here. Period. I am optimistic by nature and decided to ignore the other negative reviews. Huge mistake. We rented an RV for a weeklong family trip to the Redwoods. 2 hours before getting on the flight I received an email saying that our reservation had been canceled and "...Sorry, Motorhome you rented is out of order." No further explanation. No attempt to rebook us. Renting from this company is a gamble- is it really worth risking your entire vacation? Awful. read more

Alex and Advantage Caravan took care of us again!!! We go to Yosemite every year for spring break and previously had rented from Alex with a great experience. This year was no different. I originally inquired online. Got a quote quickly and processed my deposit via credit card. Seeing as how we reserved months in advance I asked to send partial payments to Advantage. "Sure, no problem" they say!!! Easy enough, a couple clicks of my online banking and checks were all set and sent. Fast forward to pick up day...super easy process and after a quick signature and a handshake from Alex we were on our way. Our trailer was the Grey Wolf. Clean. Easy to tow. Everything worked. Super hot water. Even fellow trailer owners were impressed. Returning was just as easy. Met with Alex, quick handshake and we were done. Will definitely be back next year. Thank you! read more

My first experience renting from Advantage Caravans was satisfactory; however six months later was completely UNSATISFACTORY. 1)We were picked up at the airport 1 and a half hours late. 2)There was 1 bed spread and NO blankets in the RV. 3)There were not any pots, pans, plates, cups, or silverware..all of these things were included in our first experience. 4)There was No Windshield cover the first night, one was delivered on our second day. Finally we worked on returning the RV early, because we were concerned about missing our plane and Alex's history of being late; therefore we delivered the RV to his office thinking we'd be able to get a ride to the motel near the airport, which he would have had to do the following morning and he accused me of costing him time and money. The RV was damaged, filthy, and not what we booked (reserved 23' got 35') and only after a series of terrible customer service problems. Dont rent here, you will be in for a really rotten experience. Not for us, but could be perfect - for the right person. Let me explain... My wife booked an RV for camping on the coast and when we arrived we were met by a man named Jay in a gated parking lot. We were waived in and rushed through a very informal overview of the RV, namely just pointing out where things were. We had never used one and were unfamiliar with the electrical, water pumps, grey/black water, generator, propane, etc. The RV was fresh back from Burning Man (seriously, the sticker was still in the window) and while relatively "tidy", was very dirty (including a lot of bugs - we plucked 4 little black bugs off my 8 month old daughter on the trip down). We're not neat freaks at all, but the RV was borderline gross (looked as if it had been swept, but it had not been cleaned). We figured we'd be camping, but didn't expect that we'd start the camping trip in the parking lot. We wanted to get on the road and not knowing what questions to ask, we left and thought we would figure it out. Alex was not there so we didn't complete any paperwork or even pay a deposit. The RV rattled down the highway and I asked my wife if she had looked online at reviews prior to booking. After looking at some reviews online and the BBB, I figured that we should check for paperwork (i.e., Insurance and Registration). There was no paperwork in the RV, which was worrisome but we pressed on & hoped not to get pulled over. Our inexperience in the RV led to a pretty disappointing trip - the battery wouldn't last through the night so we were woken up both nights by the electrical alarm, we didn't figure out the hot water until day 2 and the RV was in pretty rough shape overall. My wife lost her credit card and Alex texted us that he couldn't charge the card (apparently he tried to charge the deposit after we left) and that he wouldn't be there upon our return. He told us just to pay the remainder in cash. We were planning on putting it on a card, but decided it might be better just to pay cash. Overall, we had a rough experience, but this was partly driven by our inexperience. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place, but I wouldn't not recommend it either. Jay and Alex were very nice and easy-going. I would just say that you definitely get what you pay for. Advantage Caravans would be perfect for someone who knows what they are doing and looking for a good deal on an RV. If you're looking for glamorous, or even nice, look elsewhere; however, if you're headed to Burning Man or you're 21 on Spring Break, know what you're doing, and don't mind a little dirt or bugs, go for it. I don't know about the quality of their rentals, but this one star is based on the their customer service and their inability to return calls and emails. Alex said he would email the forms I need to rent a travel trailer after I called but then nothing. I emailed to remind him to send and still nothing. Several days later and still no call or email. Fortunately, for all of us, there are plenty of other trailer rental companies in the local area, and these others replied back to me the same day and I found a great one to rent. I would not recommend renting an RV from this business. First of all, he showed up two hours late to the airport and made many excuses as to why. Secondly, many things were missing in the RV, for instance, the windshield cover, dishes, and blankets and pillows. We also contacted the provider because the right front tire was squealing and the brakes were grinding. We were told that it would be 'fine.' It was the rainy season and the back window was leaking so bad the mattress was soaked. So, we decided to turn it in a day early for this reason but also because we didn't think we could trust him to drop us to the airport on time to catch our plane home. We were told we would get our last nights rent back but that did not happen. I will never rent from Advantage Caravans again and advise others "renter beware!" read more

First off let me say this was our first time renting a trailer, the only easy part of Advantage Caravans RV Rental was when they took our credit card to reserve it. We had a noon delivery and we gave them directions and a map to where it needed to be delivered, they showed up 9 hours later and set up the RV in the dark. Although the delivery guy was really nice, my husband and I felt rushed through a very informal overview of the RV, we basicly followed him around while he really just pointed out where things were. We had never used one and were unfamiliar with the electrical, water pumps, grey/black water, generator, propane, etc. Thankfully we were camping with others that knew how to use it. I don't understand how they think by running through the trailer in 5 minutes anything is going to sink in. The next day there was a terrible smell from the refrigerator and that's when we found out that the only time it worked was when the generator was on. Well when you are camping in a campground you have to turn the generator off by 9pm. and you can't turn it back on till 9am. This trailer was supposed to turn on with the propane when the generator turned off but it didn't, which made some of our food spoil. So later we found out that the battery for the trailer was dead and the propane doesn't kick on unless is has a working battery. This trailer was not clean when it arrived I had to clean it before I used it and after. There was a sewer smell that came from the bathroom, and when our friends checked the gray and black water they stated it was full. We never used it. (yewwwww) Lets see what else..... Oh yes When someone rolled over in bed the entire trailer shook. We were told that the trailer was a newer trailer and the paperwork/ invoice I signed said 2011 and the paper work I found in the trailer said 2008. Also they over charged us on our credit card I signed the invoice with one amount and when we got back from our trip they over charged us a couple of hundred extra. Alex said, "Well we needed to add because we didn't realized how far we were delivering it. When we sent them directions and mileage of where it was going. Plus a map. We don't recommend renting from them, there is a reason why they are so cheap to rent get what you pay for. Nothing worked properly and their customer service is terrible. Alex and Max were very nice before the trip but not after the trip when we questioned things about the trailer and the invoice. read more

If I could I would give this place a negative 5 star rating! But it won't post unless you click on the star! I flew from Maryland to California for a family reunion vacation with my sisters and our families. I rented the RV because we were camping at 7100 feet and I wanted a little comfort of the refrigerator, bed, possible heater if needed and a place to go in case of rain! We had a quick overview of how things worked but the gas and propane were at 3/4 instead of full. We spent two hours cleaning the inside before we even tried to load our stuff in. We ran out and bought foam mats because we didn't like how dirty everything was and didn't want to sleep on the old, dirty beds. We made it to our destination without any issues but within hours of arrival we started our "Uncle Eddies RV adventures". The first night the battery was dead and the refrigerator stopped working. We were woke up all night by the carbon monoxide detector going off. When I called Alex and got no answer, I started to text him. He told me to run the generator for 6 hours and then run the RV for another 3 hours to charge the battery. I asked why the 6 hr drive didn't charge it, so we pulled it out to check the water and found it was bought 6/2011. After several texts and doing most of the things Alex told me to do, he finally agreed to bring a new one but not until the next day. He told us to cut the wire on the carbon monoxide detectors so we could sleep that night. Once we got the battery we thought everything would be great! WRONG! That day when I was running the generator it just stopped working and never worked the rest of the time. (I rented this RV for 8 days) Again Alex said to just start and run the RV for 2-3 hours a day. We had several text messages between us about all the things that didn't work and how much time each day I had to spend on the RV...his last remark to me was "You Are DRY CAMPING. There will be a hassle of doing that". I understand I was dry camping but I expected things to work on this RV for the money I spent. I will not be renting from here next year and would suggest anyone looking to rent from Alex think twice unless you don't care about the condition of the RV. Last thing for me was he asked us to return it at noon and when I arrived at 12:15, he was not there and said he was about 20 minutes away. He said I could leave so I video taped and took pictures of everything in case he tries to over charge me. read more

We called to rent an RV for a family reunion in Wyoming. Our credit card was charged that day for the rental fee/deposit. We were told over the phone that we were "booked and good to go" and that paperwork would be provided upon delivery of the vehicle. Two weeks passed with no call from Advantage. ON THE DAY that the RV was supposed to be delivered my husband finally got ahold of someone. We were then told that the RV was double booked and we would not be going on our trip. When asked which party paid the deposit first, they said they didn't have that information. My husband and I both proceeded to get the run around with lots of excuses and stories of "the RV is broken and couldn't be delivered anyway" and "Oh, the vehicle has already left the property." Apparently, the person who took the reservation and our money conveniently forgot to write the reservation down on their paper and pencil reservation calendar. When trying to call the person in charge, Alex, we repeatedly got his full voicemail box even though he was texting my husband that he couldn't help. Now we get the pleasure of dealing with getting our money back and not attending our annual trip after we put out a good deal of money, thinking we were renting an RV, on food, supplies, and non-refundable (due to less then 24 hr cancellation notice) RV campgrounds. Very disappointed with the lack of customer service, communication, and honesty. read more
