    Free downgrade the rental... This location is off the airport on route 1, next to McDonald. The place looks poorly maintain. Reserved two standard SUV, a few weeks ago. when I arrived the parking lot were empty (less than 20 cars, no minivan, nor full-size SUV.) Advantage's rep said 'its long weekend.' [pick up: 9am Sun 2/18/17 President day weekend] Only one standard SUV available (2 of 3 Santa Fe having trouble with permit, not available for rent) The 2nd rental expected return 5 hours later, Advantage rep offer to downgrade to smaller SUV. I got stranded nothing else they can do but take smaller Mitsubishi outlander (which park next to permit issued Santa Fe) Luckily this is airport location.. Otherwise my trip would have been screw up by Advantage. Better rent else where Fun fact: shuttle driver washed the car without vacuum while u wait.

    The service here is terrible. In the last two months, I've rented two cars from this Hertz…read morelocation. Never again!! The first time I had to wait for a long time because there was only one person working the desk, but I got a decent car. The second time, there was a huge delay because they had promised too many rentals. I waited for an hour to get my car (still that one unfriendly lady at the counter); there was a super long line; and there were probably 5-6 other groups waiting for their cars. When I finally got the car, it smelled like smoke and a faint hint of marijuana. By then, I was late to my appointment and desperate so I took it. Overall, a terrible experience. Do not rent from this Hertz (or from Hertz at all). Note: somehow none of the other rental car agencies had large groups of people waiting around and desperate for a car. They did not have extra cars to rent, but managed not to overbook in such a massive way.

    We went through Costco travel, so I did not see the poor reviews until after we rented our car…read more Avis also represents budget at this location. We found out the hard way that if you're flying into Reagan airport, you don't just hop on the car rental shuttles roaming around, you actually have to catch the Avis shuttle not the car rental shuttle, otherwise you'll be whisked off to the wrong location. Once we figured that problem out, we had a pretty easy check in and received our Buick crossover and were on our way. We had it for five days for $387. We probably drove it less than 100 miles during that time since we were staying downtown DC where most things are within walking distance. Returning the vehicle took less than five minutes and we were already on the shuttle back to the airport in no time. Just be sure to return your car with a full gas tank and look through those 30 pages of terms. Apparently not everybody here has had as good a story as our experience, but things went well for us. And just as an added note, if you plan on staying at a hotel in DC, it is best not to rent a car if you're staying at a hotel because parking could cost you at least $60 a day or More, not to mention the high cost of parking garages in the area. It's best to Uber or get a taxi to your hotel and spare yourself the expense. Informative photos included.

A week after I returned the car I received an email saying I would be charged $450 for excess garbage. I called the 1-800 number and was forwarded a photo of the car showing 3 water bottles, a plastic bag, and a couple of receipts/hotel parking placard. The person I spoke with agreed that it did not warrant an excess cleaning fees.

They almost scammed us by adding charges to our reservation by around $300. We come to dc every two months or so and decided to go its budget just to save a few bucks. The girl with the light brown curly hair in a bun - she had glasses too. She first took the credit card and when we asked about the up charge, she literally stayed silent and when we asked the question again she told us "well I'll explain it to you if you'll let me." - girl after charging us the wrong price, you do not get to act like that. What if someone did that' to you? They wouldn't even tell us their names after. Why don't you explain WHY you are charging me more than what I agreed to, before you charging? In what world is that okay?? She basically told us we could not cancel the reservation which she upcharged us for again, without explaining before charging. Maybe she didn't know how to take the charges off because after RESISTING to help us correct our reservation, the upcharge was still on the bill. After some back and forth she took it off. She told us to wait another 10 minutes for the car. We asked her if we could sit and wait and she told us "no. you stand right there in front of me" like who do you think you are speaking to customers like that? They said they were short staffed but... don't take your short staffed excuses out on your customers. The male "manager" (clearly with no management experience) was aggressive with our group as soon as he came. He spoke over us - sure two people were talking at the same time but to speak to us like we are children was crazy work. He told us we could just go get another rental service after we told him this has been the worst experience we've had renting a car. I get it - no video should've been recorded which I understand, (they won't be posted anywhere) but to come at us with an aggressive attitude like that - I've never been to a business like this. He didn't want to come to any resolve or maybe he doesn't know how. They might be a training or something. After he basically told us we can take it or leave it I asked him if he wanted us to cancel our reservation and he said he was in the business to make money. Clearly with no integrity though. And to make matters worse they gave us a DIRTY unwashed car!! Incredible! Now we've been here for about 50 minutes waiting for a car we paid for and was overcharged for until we caught it. The gentleman who got our car washed was very helpful and kind. He even apologized for the terrible experience we had. You should be embarrassed of the business you run trying to scam people to upsell. Upselling without explaining and then giving us attitude about it is WILD. I have the operations managers contact information. I hope for a better response. Allowing your employees to speak to customers this way is insane to me. We should have checked reviews before deciding to use this location. And yes we checked the car thoroughly. I have a feeling they'll try to charge us for something that was already there. I'm in retail and have been shortstaffed for the past year - no exaggeration. I had a situation where a customer was upset and recorded one of my team members and yes I was upset too but I never made the customer feel like they did something wrong regardless and asked them politely to not post an offered a discount for the upset. I wouldn't let anyone leave with a bad taste in their mouths. Then I coached my team member. That's how service jobs work. I would be appalled if my team members acted this way. I'm in the business of keeping customers and getting positive reviews. That's what the job is when it comes to customer service. This location Avis and Budget - awful business practices upcharging customers unknowingly. This isn't the first time we've used Avis/budget and had a poor experience. It's not worth saving a few bucks. They know exactly what they are doing especially bc they're the only rental around off airport so we would've had to call an uber and spend another 2 hours to get another car and we didn't have the time. They know it's highly inconvenient for us so they can treat us however they want knowing they'll get our business either way.

I arrived at the location, and the rep assisted me with checking out my car. I was asked what kind of coverage I needed. I told her that the $11 coverage for insurance was fine. She said that it would only cover the car. I was fine with that as I have personal car insurance. at the end, I signed for the car rental and was told I would receive my rental agreement. I never got the agreement and the email address she used was not accurate. Returning the vehicle, the attendant outside checked the car back in. I asked for a copy of the receipt and was told that I could not get one because they could not find my rental. Once I landed back home, I called customer service for a copy of the receipt and in viewing it, I saw that i was charged over $800. The original rental was $600. I was charged $59 for refueling however, I had refueled the car before I brought the car back as I declined the service. I had to give the CSR on the phone all of this detailed info to get my money back. Then I find that she charged me $30 a day for the insurance when I specifically remember saying $11. I spoke to 5 representatives before I could get a copy of my lease agreement. Unfortunately, because I signed or it, I have to eat the $200 I was charged for the rental. Check all detailed info as these people are swindlers. I trusted them with my service, and it was a complete disappointment from start to finish.

During the rental process, Gustavon was very persistent in trying to upsell additional insurance coverage at an extra cost of $30 per day. We clearly explained multiple times that we already have full coverage through our GEICO policy, but the pressure continued. What stood out most was the tone and approach -- it felt less like a recommendation and more like pressure. When handing us the rental agreement, he also made a point to highlight the items we had declined, which felt unnecessary and added to the discomfort. At one point, it also seemed like our out-of-state driver's licenses (South Dakota) were being used as a reason to push the extra coverage more aggressively, which didn't sit right with us. We understand that offering additional coverage is part of the process, but there is a clear line between informing customers and continuing to push after a decision has been made. Unfortunately, this experience crossed that line for us. We hope management takes this feedback seriously and reinforces a more respectful, customer-focused approach moving forward.

From the start, the process was smooth. The shuttle from the airport to the rental car depot was quick and easy, and the real game changer was using the "skip-the-counter" option. I signed up through the email link--took a couple tries to go through, but once it did, it was seamless. I went straight to car pickup without wasting time in line. I won't be going back to the counter again. The moment I walked into the lot, I was greeted by Isiah, who was cheerful, professional, and exactly the kind of person you want to see after a long flight. I even told him how refreshing it was to be welcomed by someone genuinely smiling. He quickly scanned my barcode, then WALKED ME TO my vehicle options. He took the time to explain the pros and cons without rushing, and together we landed on a Hyundai Tucson--which turned out to be the perfect choice. Practically brand new with under 400 miles, clean, comfortable, and exactly what I needed. Checkout was fast and efficient, and I was on the road in minutes. This was one of the easiest and most pleasant rental experiences I've had. Isiah is a real asset to Alamo, and this level of service is why I'll continue renting from them going forward.
