The Jeep we got to drive
    Jenny G.

I had an excellent experience with Mike from Adventure Lanai. I called him the week I wanted to rent a Jeep, and he was accommodating and flexible. His communication about where to find the Jeep as well as things to do around Lana'i was so helpful. I loved that I could text him and he responded so quickly. The Jeep we received was basically brand new. What I loved most was that he dropped the Jeep off at the ferry, so we were able to avoid shuttle fees into town, unlike the other Jeep rentals around Lana'i. Not to mention- he was extremely affordable! He seems to truly care about his customers enjoyment of the beautiful island rather than taking advantage and charging outrageous prices. I would most definitely recommend Mike to anyone and would use him in the future. Thank you Mike for making our experience a good one!

My boyfriend and I went to Maui February of 2008 and wanted to do a day trip to Lanai. Before I left, I was reading the forums on another website and many people said to rent a jeep from Adventure Lanai Ecocentre, since they allow you to beat up their jeeps more than Dollar. I ended up calling and leaving a message, and Heather quickly called me back with pricing ($139 a day for 2 door jeeps). My boyfriend and I are both under 25 and the company does not charge a fee. I ended up booking the jeep, and it was by far the best thing we did on our trip! We ended up going to Lanai on a Sunday. We took the ferry over and arrived at 7:30 am. Heather met us when we were off the ferry, and she gave us a soft-top jeep. The jeep's interior was basically covered with red dirt, so we knew we were going to have fun off-roading. The jeep also had huge mud tires; we later saw some jeeps that Dollar rents out, and their tires were smaller. She gave us a map and told us what roads (paved and dirt) we could drive on. It rained the day before, so one of the roads was off limits (we'll just have to go again so we can go on that road). Once we were done signing paperwork, we were able to explore Lanai. We ended up going to Shipwreck Beach first, then Polihua Beach, and lastly Hulopoe Beach. The drive to Shipwreck Beach was mostly on a paved road, but for the last 10 minutes we were on a dirt road. It was nice because our jeep could handle the path. However, driving to Polihua Beach/Garden of the Gods was on a dirt road the entire time. Driving here was really fun, but you need to have a 4wd on this road. I really enjoyed renting a jeep Adventure Lanai Ecocentre. We are definitely going to rent from them every time we go back to Lanai, since their jeeps allow you to see more of the island than other companies. I know the company also does tours (atv/snorkel/kayak), so we may do that next time. I was very pleased with the service and the quality of the jeeps. They are more beat up, but that only means you are able to have more fun with them!

My wife and I rented a 4x4 Jeep for a day trip over from Maui to explore Lanai. We took the ferry over at 930a and met Mike at Manele Harbor's dock. Mike drove us up to Lanai City and explained the island inside and out! He knew tons of info about Lanai and my wife and I found the stories/info to be super interesting. Mike is one of those rare people you meet that is genuine...wanted to make sure we were taken care of and I felt that if we had a problem he would have been the to help us out of it. Much better feeling than renting from Dollar. Anyway we spent the day exploring the island but most of our day was spent down at shipwreck beach enjoying the isolation. No other humans in sight. Just some beers and lunch and awesome views of Maui and Molokai. We met mike at the predetermined time and he returned us to Manele Harbor on time for our ferry. With one last fist punch from Mikey we were on our way back to Maui wishing we could stay in Lanai. Next time I am on Lanai I am hitting up Mike for another jeep or kayak tour! Thanks Mike!

First-Class Awesome! This was my first trip to Lanai. When I initially heard about Adventure Lanai I heard that it was not the same owner of the gas station so I thought as a tourist it may be helpful to spread my tourist dollars across businesses rather than support only one. I read somewhere that the people who own the Alamo car rental also own the gas station and the article went on to describe that as an "evil monopoly situation," but that is not the case. The people I met at the gas station were incredibly friendly. I would have had no problem renting a car from them or leaving my kids with them. Just as a personal philosophy I like to support the little guy where and when I can. After reading some reviews I got the impression that you could take these Jeeps out and bang them up as much as you want and it doesn't matter, but let's be realistic. If you bang up a Jeep on an island you're going to have to deal with the ramifications. Come on! Other people were not put on this planet to clean up your mess. If you get a flat tire or have an issue with any rental car company they will run you ragged and I'm confident that should something happen to a car you rent through Adventure Lanai they will be more than gracious in helping you mop up your "spilled milk" even though you may have to write a big check. Just be careful out there and be smart. Every time I rent a car I feel like they are out to get me, but not with this company. Michelle and the others who run Adventure Lanai were very kind and helpful. My jeep was waiting for me at the airport when I arrived and then I met Michelle to review the directions. She provided me with a map and reviewed several trails I could take. This was the first time I've ever been off-roading so I was a bit nervous, especially when I found myself at the end of a dirt road, alone, where there was a sign to a dirt driveway that read, "Closed. Crime Scene." Adventure! I would recommend bringing your own map if you can find one somewhere before you go to Lanai, because Google Maps may not be any help with no cell service on all the dirt roads and trails. Lanai is an island full of very kind people, they are courteous and helpful and I really just can't say enough great things about my experience with the locals, the land and Adventure Lanai.

My other half and I stayed in a one bedroom room in the front with a shared porch, and it honestly set the tone for the entire stay. Check in was smooth and effortless. The front desk girls were wonderful, friendly, and welcoming. From the moment we arrived, the place felt very secure. You always hear stories or concerns when staying at hotels, but here I truly felt safe. Safe enough to feel like I could leave the doors unlocked, which I did not because safety always comes first, but the comfort of feeling that way says a lot. Let's talk about the bed because wow. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the sheets were next level. Manaola Comforters Lanai Hotel, you really did your big one here because I slept so good it almost felt disrespectful to my bed back home One of my favorite parts was the porch with rocking chairs. If you want to sit outside, enjoy the fresh air, and just slow down, it is right there waiting for you. Even better, there are steps directly to the outside, so if you want to quickly run to your car, you can. That convenience alone made this stay feel so easy and thoughtful. Your room and your car being right there made everything feel seamless. Now let's talk about the bathroom. First of all, the shower temperature. I wish I had it at home. Perfect pressure, perfect warmth, and the aesthetic was beautiful. Clean, modern, and calming. And now... the toilet. Yes, we are talking about the toilet because it deserves its moment The brand is Toto, and we are officially friends now. The warm seat changed my life. My expectations are now forever altered, and going home to a non warm seat was genuinely disappointing. If you are unsure about the extra settings or not used to them, totally fine. You can use it like a regular toilet. But if you are brave and curious, I highly recommend trying it. I will let you experience that magic yourself. The room also had a really good size TV. You can sign into your Netflix or YouTube, or just watch cable. There were drawers and a good size closet, perfect for a short stay and still enough space to feel organized. Here is where things get really fun. When you first enter the room, there is a small screen that controls everything. And I mean everything. You can adjust your shades from sheer to blackout, control the lighting to be brighter during the day or dim at night, and adjust the temperature for the entire room. The room felt so homey and cozy, yet the technology was very high class. The best part? You do not have to get out of bed to turn off the lights. That alone deserves a round of applause This hotel delivered comfort, safety, convenience, and thoughtful details at every turn. From the nature filled surroundings to the cozy yet modern room, it truly exceeded expectations and I didn't take a lot of photos or videos, but trust me on , Five stars without hesitation. I would absolutely stay here again

I could just be paranoid, but wanted to note that. Aside from noise and weirdly placed sensor, the decor of the room was great, staff was nice, food was good, and live music in the restaurant was awesome.

Everyone from the front desk, masseuses, transportation, restaurant staff and everyone in between, we greatly appreciated their kindness and service. Special thanks to Elliott who assisted us with a minor thermostat issue in our room which was resolved without issue. Sensei by Nobu was a wonderful dinner with a relaxing ambiance and delicious entrees and desserts. We opted for a custom massage, snorkeling, and some hale time, well worth booking ahead of time, thanks to the wonderful Sensei experience team. Everything was seamless, from the transportation from Lana'i air to the resort, transportation to the snorkeling experience from the lobby, shuttle service to the other resort for dinner, to checking out and departing at the end of our stay. We loved the library and spent some time playing billiards and shuffle board. Some favorite things about Sensei vs the Four Seasons beach resort (based on my observations: -Slower pace overall -Mostly adults, no kids under 16 -Feels geared more towards relaxation and wellness experiences -Still have access to the beach resort via the shuttle that runs every hour -Feels more like a tropical hidden getaway Pros: Exceptional staff, gorgeous well kept garden and grounds, delicious restaurants and food options, beautiful suite, and seamless transportation. There are also activities that you can do off site, and a shuttle that goes into the city every hour. The downtown is small, but is worth checking out if you have the time. There's a handful of restaurants, a grocery store, a new retro-themed bowling alley, and movie theater. There are also a couple of hiking trails by the hotel. If you walk towards the beach, towards the left there's a short hike, and on the right is a longer hike along the water. The hike on the right is much harder--I'd describe it as an ankle breaker. It's mostly hiking over a lot of rocks, so you'll want to have the appropriate shoes, plenty of water, and go early in the morning to try to avoid the sun. On site, there are plenty of great views of the water, and five excellent restaurants to eat at: 1. The Break. Great casual spot for coffee, breakfast sammies, musubis, and acai bowls in the morning. We explored many other hotels while we were on Maui, and honestly, none of them compared to Grand Wailea. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, expansive, and classic. I don't agree with the reviews saying it feels run down. It isn't ultra-modern, but it has a grand, timeless, classic resort feel. The beach out front is amazing. We explored a lot of beaches on Maui, and I never found one I liked better than the beach at Grand Wailea. The resort itself also feels unmatched in size and beauty. No other hotel we saw had the same expansive grounds, pools, landscaping, and overall resort feel. That said, the biggest downside was how much everything felt overpriced. I understand Maui and luxury resorts are expensive, but Grand Wailea sometimes felt like it was nickel-and-diming guests. Valet parking is $75 per day, and when you add in tipping every time you retrieve a rental car, it gets frustrating fast. On Saturday and Sunday evenings, valet was also very slow. One night we waited over 25 minutes. The valet staff were clearly working hard, but they seemed understaffed for the volume of guests. The food pricing was also hard to justify. At the marketplace/counter-service options, we saw coffee for $7.50, hot dogs for $26, hamburgers for $32, and 12-inch pizzas around $30. You also often have to wait in a long line, and if one person is making coffee drinks, it slows the entire line down. Olivine looks beautiful, but the prices were extremely high, including a personal sausage pizza for $38. Considering the mixed reviews, we could not justify eating there. While we were there for over a week, the resort restaurants looked quite empty every day. I truly think if the restaurant prices were even 30% lower, many more guests would stay on property to eat instead of walking across the street to places like Manoli's or Island Gourmet. The pool area was beautiful, and we appreciated little touches like seeing free pineapple passed out at the pool one day. The idea was nice, although the execution could have been better since the server was putting wet pineapple chunks directly into people's hands. We also wish the waterslides stayed open later, especially for families. Grand Wailea does offer free Nespresso coffee in the room, which is nice, but after seeing one too many social media videos about people misusing hotel coffee makers, I personally can't bring myself to use in-room hotel coffee machines anymore. One extra service I would gladly pay for is a paid hospitality suite or shower room option for guests with late flights. So many flights out of Hawaii leave late at night, and after checking out in the morning, it would be incredibly helpful to have a clean, comfortable place to shower and freshen up before heading to the airport. Overall, we loved Grand Wailea and would absolutely recommend it. The staff, room, beach, pools, and grounds were wonderful. I don't understand all the bad reviews because our experience was very positive. The resort is beautiful and memorable. My only real complaint is that the food, coffee, parking, and extras are priced so high that it pushes guests away from spending money on property. Full restaurants would be more profitable than beautiful restaurants sitting empty.

3/5 Stars My partner…read moreand I stayed at Grand Wailea to celebrate our birthdays on June 18 and June 19, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We informed the hotel in advance of our special occasion, but there was no acknowledgment or birthday amenity waiting in our room upon arrival. We were referred to the restaurants, and when a server learned it was our birthdays, the only recognition we received was a verbal congratulations. While we did not expect anything extravagant, many hotels and restaurants typically offer a small gesture such as a dessert, cake, or card for special occasions. We spent approximately $1,500 dining at the resort during our celebration, yet there was still no additional acknowledgment. For a luxury resort known for its hospitality, we expected a more personalized experience. Overall, the property is beautiful, but the lack of attention to our special occasion left us disappointed. Most likely they will write back only to apologize and nothing else.
