I've been seeing Liz at Aerea Salon for the last 3 years. She's incredibly knowledgeable about extensions and makes sure it works with your hair without long term damage. I have thin hair, so that was my initial concern, and was also worried I didn't have enough to cover the pieces. But after over 25 sessions, my hair is still doing amazing and no one knows I have extensions because they look so natural! I started out with tape ins and then after about 2 years, switched over to the Invisible Bead Extensions which I absolutely love and think are definitely the best extensions for my hair. I reused the same set and only changed to a new set after a year. The original extensions were still doing well, but I wanted to start fresh and mix up the colors a bit. Speaking of color, I haven't needed to use those services in her salon (only color I have are from the extensions!) but I know they are always busy with repeat clients getting their hair treated! BEWARE of this salon -1 star is too generous. I tried this place out to get my roots done as a double process blonde. My regular stylist left out of state. My hair is medium/light brown, and lifts very easily. They left the bleach on my scalp so long that it burned my head. I had an open wound, ( look at photo below) - left the salon in terrible pain. They put a cooling ointment on on scalp and said it was my fault because my hair as too clean. Apparently according to my hair stylist friend, that used to be the case years ago- but products are not formulated like that anymore. My hair was so damaged piles of it broke off at the root area, took me years to rehab. This place is a the worst - surprised it isn't closed down. I've been going to Aerea Salon in the Flatiron District for a couple of years since I live nearby in the Chelsea area. I need my roots colored every month as well as highlights every couple of months. I've had nothing but great experiences with Anissa whom also does my Brazilian Blowout keratin treatments. She is wonderful and always sweet. I have really curly hair that can get frizzy in humid weather, so the keratin treatment is always a lifesaver. I've tried other salons around the city, but I haven't had the best of luck as a guy with medium-length hair. It's just difficult to find a place where I want to become a repeat customer. I had a truly horrible experience at Aerea that left me with extensive hair damage that took over 2 years to recover from. During the service my stylist barely checked on my hair and even went out for coffee mid service. The salon is very busy and stylists take multiple clients at once. When bleaching hair it's incredibly important to check throughout to monitor progress and the integrity of the hair, which my stylist did not do. I left the salon gummy over bleached. My hair was absolutely ruined root to tip to the point that it was breaking mid length, essentially leaving me with bald patches. I couldn't believe my eyes. I was completely honest about my previous coloring treatments - if it was not possible to get my hair to the color I wanted without damage, the stylist should have said so instead of frying my hair into oblivion! No professional would ever do this, especially without warning a client about the potential outcome. The salon manager offered a complimentary Keratin treatment, but was excessively rude and combative the entire time. I was already incredibly upset about having my hair destroyed and his terrible attitude had me literally crying in the salon! Completely unprofessional in all aspects. read more

I went to get my balayage touched up and he made it look even more wonderful than the first time! Praising him--for a brunette, getting blonde balayage can be tricky as it can look too fake or toobut everyone always compliments me on how gorgeous the color is. Loved this place. Super convenient location-wise and very easy to make an appointment. Front desk was very accommodating as I had to adjust my booking twice due to weatI had balayage done by the salon manager, Alex. I showed David a photo of a lob, and he got started right away. He really took the time to understand what I liked, asking me along the way if x length was what I desired and how much layering I wanted to see. He partitions hair in a very detailed manner, going slowly to ensure precise cuts. I always ask for a standard cut for my long straight hair -- I prefer layers at the bottom, and also a little bit of attention towards shaping my shorter hair on the side. The layering at the bottom was very mediocre, and the horizontal cut line still looks pretty blunt. I don't think she knows how to layers well and give the bottom a lighter feeling. She also definitely did not know how to handle the shorter bangs at the side, and did something very basic there. Wow! I'm absolutely shook at my hair transformation! I've always had light brown hair with highlights, nothing major. But I decided to switch it up by going a gray-blonde with purple and pink undertones balayage. I loved how my hair turned out. Alex, my hair colorist did an amazing job! During my consultation, I showed Alex two photos for reference and he explained exactly what he was going to do, which made me feel at ease. He explained there would be two rounds of bleaching at the top section of my hair and the end of my hair to achieve a blonde balayage look. As I waited during the bleaching process, Alex would check in on me from time to time to ensure that my hair has enough bleach and if it has reached the desired color. After washing out the bleach, he worked extremely hard to tone my hair to the perfect gray-blonde with hints of a purple undertone. Lastly, he trimmed my hair and styled it to perfection. After months of research I took an appointment and luckily got it for the same day. My hair dresser was sweet and asked me my preference. I was looking for a cut that would add volume in the crown area as well as keep the length long. I was glad my hair dresser was Ajiz as I had read a lot of reviews about him online. He was thorough with the hair wash, was patient and meticulous about the cut. I wish he had given me more layers in the front as now it is more symmetrical that layered. I made it all the way down to Chelsea on a Thursday to get my previously brown hair color re-done. Reason being that my hair had previously ashy blonde highlights in it so it didn't take too kindly to the brown color and washed off pretty easily. So this time I decided to go 3-4 shades darker so that way the color would last longer. In a matter of a couple of hours Alex, my favorite hair colorist of the last year, applied single process to my hair and had me under the heater for half an hour. The final result came out much darker than I anticipated but loved it, as I've always loved it when he was giving me the best blonde highlights of my life considering how dark my hair is! So, maybe it felt a little dark because of having blonde highlights for too long but I figured it was time for a change.
