I come to see Miguel regularly for my tri-monthly haircuts. Usually I get a cut to my shoulders with layers and full highlights. This time around I asked for a more neutral tone to still accentuate my natural color while adding bleach that is oil proof. I ended up getting toner instead of highlights. I have been a loyal and satisfied client of Will and Miguel since 2015, having followed them through three salon locations. No one does a keratin treatment quite like Will - he's absolutely amazing. I have tried other salons but no one has ever achieved the results that Will gets for me! He is very knowledgeable about every aspect of the treatment. Had my second keratin done by Will! Not only is he the sweetest, he also totally knows what he's doing. He did the entire process in two hours and gave me a great blowout. Unlike other keratins, my hair didn't feel sticky or smell icky. I have thick, curly, and frizzy hair so I'm always nervous that keratin isn't going to be strong enough for my hair. But after a month of having had the treatment done, all I have to do is put a little leave in conditioner in & my hair air dries beautifully - which would have never been possible before. So, five stars for my keratin treatment. My hair does look fab. And, it is true, no spray here. Will painted the keratin treatment onto my hair like it was a canvas and he was Picasso. I was charged more since I got a big ole mop on my head which was totally fair. I added a hair cut to the deal for another $50 via Lifebooker and it was a good haircut. Nothing life changing. My hair was pretty healthy, so per my request he just cut of the ends however, I did want my bangs shorter and a little bit more Zooey Deschanel like but, Will and Miguel agreed that once my hair was washed it would be shorter, not the case. My bangs are pretty damn long still and all up in my eyes and will probably need to be trimmed next week. To their benefit, they did say I could come in for a free bang trim at anytime but, schlepping back to Soho for a bang trim isn't a priority in my busy life. The salon itself is shared by many different stylists and they offer you coffee, tea or wine which is nice. They have a a variety of magazines too which is nice for that hour and a half Keratin/straightening process. I'm a naturally curly brunette, and go in for Keratin, cuts and color. Because I wanted a really natural highlighted look, he painted them in balayage-style and it looks incredible. I had an amazing experience here! Would recommend based off all fronts -- product, pricing, service, environment, etc! The salon is very clean, fairly spacious and bright and well designed -- vs. some in Manhattan can be shoved in a back room and not so aesthetic. On top of the physical space, Will and Miguel are super friendly and based off my time there, it seems like they have a number of repeat clients which is always encouraging. I came in for a keratin treatment after doing a lot of research on nearby salons and comparing reviews / pricing. I've never had anything done to my hair besides get it trimmed so I was nervous but this salon seemed to have the best combo of reviews and fair pricing. Will explained the entire process to me beforehand and made sure to answer any questions. He was extremely diligent applying the treatment. I have pretty long and thick hair and I was happy to see he was very thorough to treat every hair vs. other salons I've been to have tended to be somewhat lazy when doing my hair, e.g. blow drying. With this being my first time getting keratin, once I washed my hair 3 days later I actually ended up needing a stronger treatment. I emailed Will and the same day he made time in his schedule so I could come back to redo the treatment with a stronger formula. Long overdue update review: I've been going to Miguel Lopez Salon since 2012 and honestly cannot go anywhere else. I love being able to go see Will and Miguel and not even having to say a word and they know exactly what to do with my hair! Honestly, having your own personal hair stylist has its benefits and Will and Miguel are completely fabulous! I typically go to them for my Keratin treatments but recently I've slowed those down to embrace my curls over the last year. Recently, I went through a hair transformation and colored my hair for the first time in my life and Will made me so comfortable during the process and ended up giving me exactly what I was looking for - and still get regular compliments on my color almost on a weekly basis from people on the street and close friends. They also give great haircuts and touch ups as well. Overall - great place, excellent service and I always have great conversations with them when I sit in the chair. In terms of price, I think they are fairly comparable to other places in the city, but I've actually only used them strictly over the last four years - and honestly for the quality of hair care and service, its worth it. I have a very curly and frizzy hair. First, I went for consulting and Miguel guaranteed that with keratin treatment, my hair will become frizz-free and smooth and the curls will become looser and will look much better. I took his advise and did the treatment. Right after the treatment, my hair looked great for a week. But after the first wash, it became exactly like before the treatment. No effect at all. This is while he had charged me an extra $60 for special shampoos and conditioners. He told me I should buy that for long-lasting effect. I did use those products and avoided soap and treated my hair with care, but the result didn't even last for two weeks. Now my hair is exactly like before, and has the same amount of frizz. However, this is not the worst part! The worst part is that I contacted Miguel and complained about the result, but he suprisingly denied what he had said before! Quoted from his email: "I am so sad to hear that but I explained to you that day that it is a smoothing treatment not a straightening treatment.  It loosens your curl but does not make your hair straight, soft shiny and frizz free." !!! I don't understand how hair can be "smooth" in his words, but not "soft, shiny, and frizz-free"! Not to mention, his treatment didn't even loosen my curls. Nonetheless, bad results might sometimes be acceptable, but nothing is worse than the fact that he lies! I regret that I trusted him and spent $310 for nothing. Anyway, now he refuses to pay me a refund. But if you want a "soft, shiny, and frizz-free" hair, do not waste your money here, as he admits himself that this treatment is not meant to do that. read more

The best. Miguel took so much time and patience to explain the keratin process, manage my expectations and made me come back. My hair looks and feels great and people have commented on how healthy it looks--I'll take it! I have coarse curly hair that can't stand humidity (at all) and with these treatments I barely have to style my hair after I wash it. All I do is towel dry then throw in some Moroccan Oil (I ran out of Miguel's Keratin elixir I think it's called) and I'm good to go. My hair even stays smooth at the end of a workout and after a long day at the beach. I had a treatment here in early March and then again in early June. So it didn't last as long as some others experience with keratin in general but when it was there it looked fantastic and I honestly could have waited longer between treatments, I think. Their new location in Flatiron is so cute and intimate, although I didn't mind the last location either! They take card (you can tip on card too) and have pretty great hours. Will be back! read more

After The Haircut From Hell at Fekkai several months ago, which left me with uneven, weird layers and a cut that was much too short overall, I was actually afraid to go anywhere for a haircut. As the ends of my curly hair became more and more ragged and the humidity started to rise, however, I was left with no choice. Through a good deal on Lifebooker, I made an appointment for a haircut and blowout with Will, and couldn't be happier. He listened to what I wanted, stopped several times to check to ensure that I was happy with what I was doing, and gave me styling tips on how to wear my hair curly or straight. I had made my appointment during lunchtime at work, and I was in and out in under an hour. Will was absolutely fantastic--he won my trust right away. In fact, I am going back next week for a Brazilian Keratin Treatment with him! This review is for Keratin. I had mine done in February this year. Miguel is really nice, fun and very easy to talk to. I also bought the keratin deal on Lifebooker but called in advance before purchasing to ask a few questions. Miguel was very nice and answered all of them patiently and honestly. He told me upfront the $150 price is a starting price and long hair (mine is 3/4 down my back) increases the price but it wouldn't go higher than $225 I believe. The last time I did keratin it was $250 so I booked it. He was flexible with my schedule. Miguel operates within this salon, but he has his own booth, does his own booking and payments etc. Actual keratin experience 1. Miguel paints on the keratin, doesn't dilute spray it. 2. He first paints on the keratin and then combs your hair. **For those that are new to keratin, your hair has to be washed thoroughly and stripped clean, so you can't have any conditioner in it. Well that makes hair rough, tangled and very hard to comb, especially if it's long. The first time I had keratin done was so painful because the lady first agonizingly combed my hair.. it took 30 minutes!! My head was in pain, my eyes were tearing. I don't know if that is routine or if Miguel's way is routine, but I was very grateful for his process regardless. 3. The keratin did last (downside, his keratin is the 48 hour one I believe) very long. At least up until June. My hair has grown most of it out now but it still is smoother and flatter when it air dries than it used t be, which is how I know. Also the salon offers you wine and refills, which is always a plus. My total was more than $150 but as mentioned, it wasn't a surprise. Miguel told me how to take care of it and maintain it. All in all, if I ever need keratin again, I would go to him. Note on keratin: Keratin will make your hair silky and much straighter. You can wash it, walk out the shower and it air dries like you blow dried it. However - the side effect of that is that it makes your hair very greasy very quickly. I only get it done when I'm going on long vacations or abroad where don't have time or resources to do my hair constantly. (International voltage convertors can sometimes still fuse your straighteners). But I had to wash my hair every other day, without fail. So in a way, it's a catch 22 - the more you wash it, the faster the keratin fades - but if you don't, your hair will be an oily mess. I would only get it again in the winter or if I have another similar trip. read more

Think twice before going to this salon!!! I had what I thought was a lovely experience with WIll and a keratin treatment until my hair went wavy at the roots WEEKS after the treatment. When I finally called to talk to them about it I didn't get a call back for several days. When I called again I spoke with Miguel who immediately informed me that going back to wavy is normal after such a short period of time. Now, I realize that not all treatments are the same, but I've been getting Keratin treatments for over 5 years and never once have I had this issue after 1 month!! Most treatments last 4 months and often can stretch to 6. However, $200+ is no small change to pay and not have something be right, so we agreed to set up a time for me to come in and have them take a look. When I called back to arrange a time(talked to Will this time) I got yet another song and dance about how it's perfectly normal for hair to go back to wavy after this time period, and how he tells all his clients that this isn't a relaxer, and that he has clients come in every month for the treatment blah blah blah. Uhm...last time I checked if someone is calling you because they aren't happy about something you don't immediately begin by telling them all the reasons why they are wrong. Suffice it to say the conversation did not go well after that and Will told me to "lose his number". Absolutely NO problem with that!! I have no interest in keeping in contact with bad attitude divas who give crappy customer service. So be warned! read more

There's a reason this place gets such high ratings on Yelp. I had never gotten keratin before, and after years of considering Japanese straightening, I decided to go for this less drastic measure. I searched Yelp for "best keratin treatment" and was directed here. Miguel and Will run their salon out of a beautiful space in SoHo. Will assessed my hair, which has been thick and frizzy since puberty, and decided that I did not need a relaxer; keratin would take 90% of the frizz out. I also cut about 6 inches off, so the before and after is pretty drastic. (I submitted a photo, check it out.) Will was really great, talking me through everything. I dyed my grays out, too, and keratin works just fine with colored hair. When I left the salon my hair was stick straight. It had never been that straight before. But after my first wash, the body came back, and for the first time ever I had wavy but not frizzy hair! I can actually see my curls! And when I blow dry my hair, it actually stays straight and doesn't frizz with the weather. I could never have cut my hair shoulder-length without keratin because the frizz would have made it fro, but now I have the hair I always wanted. If you do want your hair stick straight, Will suggests a relaxer and then keratin. But he said since my hair is not thick but fine, there's just a lot of it, keratin would be enough. Came in here for a Brazilian Keratin Treatment the other day and left fantastically happy. I felt a little guilty for bypassing my usual place, Pimps & Pinups (sorry, Marissa, you're awesome but $500 for a BKT? Ummm....) This place was MUCH less expensive (for this service, at least). I paid about $150 plus tips by booking through Lifebooker. My hair looks spectacular, so soft and shiny. Even my boyfriend noticed! My appointment took precisely 90 minutes, as promised. Honestly, I appreciate his speed - who wants to sit there for hours and hours? You impress me more by gettin' it DONE than wasting a lot of time talking. (Don't I sound like a dude? But seriously, it's not that he doesn't talk, because he does - and he's funny - he's just super quick at doing the hair stuff.) He even threw in a bang-trim for me and did exactly what I asked. I'd been meaning to try the Keratin thing after hearing about it for so long, but I had a bad experience with hair falling out from Japanese straightening a while ago, and I was a little nervous. Also I have this expensive sulfate-containing shampoo/conditioner collection, and as embarrassing as this is to admit, I wanted to finish it first so I wouldn't feel guilty buying new sulfate-free stuff. Anyway, I wanted the treatment because my hair is pretty much destroyed from over-processing (was doing the platinum-blonde thing for a while). I was waiting to write this review until I would see how the treatment would pan out. I did not have a bad experience at the actual salon. Miguel answered all of my questions, it is a nice salon, and they treat their customers well. I was charged $50 more than the lifebooker price, because of the length of my hair- I should have read the fine print. I got the keratin treatment done about a month and a half ago. From the get go, the second time I washed my hair, I has some curl back in my hair. I called the salon and was assured that it was because the treatment was formaldehyde free, so it should continue to be frizz free, even if it is wavy/curly. I accepted it, and continued my routine of using shampoo free of sulfates, using a keratin infusing cream after I washed my hair, washing it every couple of days, etc. Three weeks after I initially got it done I saw a noticeable amount of frizz in my hair. A month and a half later, my hair feels almost as unruly/frizzy as it does normally. I got the treatment halfway through the summer, and expected it to last at least through the rest of the summer. I understand the treatment doesn't last forever, but then don't claim it lasts 3+ months. If I had known it would only last a little over a month, I would not have paid the $200 I was charged. They were among the first salons to get a state of the art ventilation system which not only protects Will and Miguel, but keeps the salon atmosphere pleasant. Will is always learning new techniques and trying new tools to stay on the cutting edge. This may sound trivial, but all those little efforts add up into a superior experience. I will only put Coppola Keratin on my hair, and I had to look all over for a salon that uses it. Miguel Lopez Salon uses a top quality product at a great price. Will really cares about the integrity of his products, his clients, and hair in general. He is also hilarious. I moved to NYC a few months ago and knew there were approximately 43278 salons to choose from for Keratin treatments. I had a bad keratin experience prior, because it didn't last very long. I'm Indian, and have thick wavy hair so I really wanted someone who knew what they were doing since regardless, I'm shelling out a couple hundred bucks. I read good things on Yelp about Miguel Lopez so I gave it a shot on Thanksgiving weekend. My first thought, very inviting studio space and the receptionist was very professional. I appreciated also being offered water/wine (I went with wine .. hey it was a vacation weekend). Miguel was very nice, conversant, and thoughtful. He also gave great advice regarding lengthening the keratin treatment. I'm a runner so he was very matter of fact in saying to avoid sweating/getting my hair wet for 3 days. He did a great job and now almost 6 weeks later my hair blow drys almost straight, I just have to go over it and it is much softer when it is straight than it was when I was doing relaxer treatments in college/grad school. In sum, very satisfied with the place. Miguel knows his business and I feel that I got my money's worth. People always compliment me on my hair now. I got my keratin treatment a month ago and I am so pleased. I am mixed and after years of coloring and flat irons etc my hair became a super frizzy mix between curly and wavy that was just impossible to style without hair tools. Due to the texture of my hair blow drying it takes at least 40 minutes and even after that its still too frizzy to leave and I end up flat ironing it. After my keratin treatment my blow drying time has been cut in more than half and I don't even have to flat iron it after. It was my first keratin treatment and I was honestly expecting less just based on how everyone is always stressing that its just a smoothing treatment but it is seriously a life changer, I will definitely be coming back for more! After looking at many offers online, and reading the yelp reviews, I decided that Miguel Lopez seemed like a safe bet, despite the limited number of reviews. I called on a Sunday morning and Miguel himself answered, and said that he would be happy to come in with Will to do two keratin treatments. With the offer on Yelp of $150 dollars for first time customers in hand, we headed to the city. The salon is on the second floor of 458 West Broadway and you have to ring on the Serenity Salon to gain access if the front door is locked. When we walked in, the space was very large and inviting, matching the warm and welcoming personalities of both Will and Miguel. They were very friendly, and I made tea for myself and Mama as we chatted. They worked quickly and efficiently, and the whole deal from shampoo to flat iron took only 1 hour 45 minutes even on Maha's lovely long locks. Mama told Miguel that she had Keratin in London, but it simply did not work despite her following instructions to the absolute T, and he assured her that the Coppola treatment they used was full strength and she would get results-given she didnt wash her hair for 3 days! We had a great time at the salon, and Will was awesome to chat with and gossip about life with. The proof of purchase, however, came 3 days later, when Mama and Maha had incredibly manageable, shiny, gorgeous, and STRAIGHT hair. Almost 1 month later they still both look fantastic, and they both plan to go back every 3 months like clock work. Definitely highly recommend them. Worth every penny. read more

I came to this salon about 2 years ago to get the Keratin treatment done for the first time (by Will) and my hair-life changed forever! I've always had really thick & curly hair that takes forever to straighten (1 hour with rollers under the hair dryer, then 30 minutes blow dry, and finally 15 minutes flat iron. Yes. I'm serious.) Anyway, the keratin treatment lasted about 4 months, it could be the most humid/rainy day ever and my hair was still on fleek lol! Such an awesome feeling. This time I stopped by to get highlights done with Miguel. Now, I am not big on change at all. In fact, I'm terrified of change when it comes to my hair! I decided "F*** It" and went for it. So glad I came to Miguel, I'm pretty happy with my hair. Although it's a big change for me, the color looks natural and really pretty. Miguel really took his time and made sure it was what I wanted. I purposely waited a few weeks after my keratin treatment to write this post. While my keratin treatment did look AMAZING for the first 2 weeks, I'm already noticing that the treatment seems to be fading faster every day, a mere 4 weeks later. My hair has pretty tight waives that are deceivingly stubborn. I purposefully warned my stylist, hoping that he would maybe leave the product on a bit longer like he had the woman next to me. Needless to say, I do feel like this was money that could have been better spent. Everyone is right on with the ambiance of the salon being incredible, and that Will and Miguel are both super friendly guys who are more than welcoming. It saddens me that the treatment just did not work out. read more

Let me just start off by saying I have thick hair and ALOT OF IT! I came here last summer around June to get the keratin treatment done and it was the best money I spent. My keratin treatment last all summer and began fading away towards early-mid September which is exactly what I wanted. Miguel was very nice and held great conversation about himself and his life and even offered advice! He blow dried my hair and flat ironed it in about an hour! The fastest anyone ever has done my hair! I definitely plan on returning for my next keratin this summer. Heck I'd be there every 3 months if I could afford to haha! read more
