I have been coming to Oakbrook Center since I was a young woman...so, many years ago. WOW have they changed the place!!! Renovation has been good for OB. In my mind, this is the more upscale of the west suburban malls. Nice stores like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor, etc. Being outdoor is pretty fun too, it makes holiday shopping an authentic event. Suck on that, you central heating fogies! This place is neat because of the DIPPIN DOTS stand. Just keep it in mind if you want dippin' dots. Plenty of nearby restaurants to make a trip to the mall, a trip out of the ordinary. Sometimes, shopping here makes me feel poor. But its cool! One day I'll have a grossly disposable income and coming here will be part of my "mental health" day. If you don't have the money for EVERYTHING it has to offer now, AT LEAST check it out and get some dippin' dots! read more

What a great mall! The outdoor experience is great any time of year with the flowers, fountains, holiday lights, and benches to people watch. The one thing lacking is boutique type stores, but otherwise I think they've got everything else covered. This is my favorite mall! It's great for window-shopping, socializing with friends, or for buying things. This is significant considering that I prefer independently owned local stores (I easily get overwhelmed with sales and vast options). Here are seven reasons why this mall is the bomb-diggity: 1) They are conveniently located near several major roads (Roosevelt, Kingery Hwy, Butterfield, 22nd St, and 88). 2) They have the option of expansive parking lots AND free parking garages. 3) It's classy without being pretentious. Even the high-end stores have many employees who are happy and eager to help. 4) There are regular mall stores like American Eagle, Aldo, H&M, and Macy's. 5) There isn't really a food court, but there are lots of restaurants scattered about such as California Pizza Kitchen, Maggiano's, the Cheesecake Factory and Subway. 6) It's an outdoor mall, but is still well-equipped to care for shoppers in rain and Midwest winters. 7) My favorite part is that children and young people are under control. They're around, but they have adult supervision or are well-mannered. Here are two quick tips from my last visit to the mall: 1) There is some major construction on Kingery right by the mall that caused a HUGE backup on the ramp from Roosevelt. I'd recommend being mentally prepared for the traffic. 2) The Oakbrook Center is renovating their outdoor floor. It seems as if they are doing it in a way that is unobtrusive to shoppers, so this is just a head's up. read more

Love this place during the summer for its gorgeous fountains and landscaping. As a winter mall, it's a bit difficult to walk around during construction season but there is an effort to at least mark walkways. In the end, I go to malls for the store selection and this place has got the goods. For a 20-something young professional, it's got what I need in clothing stores like Express, Banana Republic and H&M. It also houses a Barnes & Noble that is a perfect venue for a high school English teacher like me who needs to grade for hours on end at the study tables, but also yearns for much-needed mental breaks in the book stacks. What would be a helpful addition is a bit more variety and quantity of quick food options because there really isn't a "food court" but more so restaurants spread out through the mall. And a majority of these are sit-down and tip kind of places. read more

This is a beautiful mall. I never seem to really buy anything, but I love visiting and just walking around. It's honestly a wonderful mall to spend an afternoon zigzagging through in the dead of winter or the middle of summer. It reminds me of being back in California. SoCal, however, doesn't have snow. Oakbrook will take care of you! In winter, there are stands with cinnamon glazed nuts (HELLO!) and Starbucks is always there to defrost you as well. The stores are nice but seem smaller than other malls. Eh, who cares? I really come here for the atmosphere -- 100%. read more

Upscale, super clean outdoor mall that offers lots of delicious food options and shopping splurges. On a fall day, it's great to walk around and window shop. There's usually plenty of parking and I'm never all that worried to leave valuables in the car because there's plenty of security. You won't get any bargains here, though. There are no outlet stores and perhaps the cheapest option would be H&M. read more

I really don't know why anyone would give this shopping mecca a bad rating. So what if its outdoors; at least its a mall that's not like all other malls. The first time most people going there will feel under-dressed when they see all the cliche yuppie (which is an overused word) type of people throughout the mall. I mean the town that the mall is in isn't your typical middle-class suburb. Its a good place to take your date to eat since theres some nice restaurants (Magiano's, Clubhouse, Wildfire...) The parking isn't bad since theres plenty of places BUT, the process of driving to and from is bad since there tends to be long lines of cars either trying to leave and finding a spot. Best bet would be to good really early or late to go. read more

If i hadn't moved to the city and out of the burbs I'd probably be Oak Brook every day (if I had more cash). I grew up with this mall! I would have to slightly agree with some of the other yelpers about the pretentiousness of the people at Oak Brook but I don't own any Fendi, Prada, or Armani and I never feel chastised. Oak Brook is outdoors which can be rough in winter but I still suffer in the cold because I like it so much. It's also nice to come during Christmas time and window shop and look at the decorations. It's a one stop shop for me. They have: Express, Banana Republic, Gap, Macy's, Bebe, Sephora, Arden B., Abercrombie, Steve Madden, Victorias Secret, Coach, Nordstrom's, Starbucks, Crate and Barrel, White House/Black Market, Wet Seal, and American Eagle just to name a few. And the food places are also great. They have: California Pizza Kitchen, Wildfire, Cheesecake Factory, Mon Ami Gabi, Maggiano's, Marshall Field's and Nordstrom's Cafe, Gloria Jeans, Stir Crazy, and Braxton's ( try Braxton's, it's a great seafood place). How can you not find something you like with all of these options? Even if these aren't your favorite clothing stores the food will at least win you over. read more

I'm not a big shopper, but I wish I was. $$$, time and better things to do prohibit this. I live in nearby Elmhurst. Sooo when I want to go shopping, Oakbrook Woodfiled & Yorktown are my malls - and in that order. It's beautiful all year round. AND YES even in the winter freeze! They have a great retails store. Let's not forget the awesome department stores- Nordstrom, Neiman's Bloomingdale's, Macy's- yes all of them at one spot! more than Woodfield has. Like said before I'm not a hardcore shopper, but in the times I've gone I've never had a bad attitude sent my way. AND NO, I don't dress up to shop. Usually I'm in yoga pants and a T. I can give a rats ass about how I look to spend MY $$$. I've always had friendly non-hassling associates. The reason I dropped a star is because during harsher weather it's outdoor and I'd rather go to Woodfield, but then again that's part of the ambiance. read more

What I find to be the most exciting about this mall was the layout and the onslaught of beautiful gardens, and the fact that it's the 1st ever outdoor mall I've ever been to in my life. There aren't many stores and restaurants that I like here, but here I can find Aeropostale, Bath &Body Works, AE, Body Shop, Brookstone, Claire's, Crate & Barrel, H&M, Sephora, Williams-Sonoma, Forever 21, Pottery Barn, Wet Seal, Vera Bradley, MAC, and Origins, some of my favorite stores. If I want to go to a mall considered upscale to shop at these same stores without having to deal with snobs, I can go to Orland Square, Woodfield, Downtown Chicago, or better yet, the Lincoln Park neighborhood, the latter two rivaling the outdoor feel of this mall. read more

I've been coming to Oakbrook for years and it is probably my favorite mall in the Chicagoland area. It brings a moderate crowd and I have never seen it annoyingly crowded like Woodfield or other malls. That is a huge plus in my book. They are currently in the process of renovating the mall so that is a little burdensome but I am impressed they are consistently improving the mall. There is a good variety of stores here, like the large J Crew, currently being remodeled Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Barnes and Noble, etc. Basically anything you could want is likely here. Also, they have plenty of dining options from Mon Ami Gabi, to Wildfire, to Cheescake Factory, etc. This is a great all to go to for basically anything you could need, and on a nice day it is perfect to walk around! read more

Haven't been to this mall in ages, so I decided to make a visit. Headed to the mall and well it was cold out I didn't mind walking around to check out the different shops. Went there with a friend and in minutes we found parking! But I must say, Akira was a mind blowing experience. I felt the great atmosphere, along with a clean store with plenty of styled sections. I am a disabled senior and was helped by Sean or maybe it is spelled Shawn, on Friday, July 19, 2013. I had an appointment with Dr. Gianakakis in the 150 Professional building. I parked in the lot by Sears. I had no idea how far I had to walk to get to Dr. Gianakakis office. When I arrived at their office, I asked if I could get assistance to my car when I left. I had just had a gel shot in my knee the day before and was having difficulty walking and it was so hot outside. When I was ready to leave they called Oak Brook Mall Security and Sean came to my rescue and drove me to my car. He was prompt, courteous, and caring. They're ruining Oak Brook Mall! They tore out all the lovely landscaping and they're putting in garbage! The new paving pattern gives me a migraine and makes me nauseous -- and they really need to fire their contractor. It's uneven and someone is going to trip! I'm really not a mall shopper...more of an online shopper. But when I do go to the mall, I prefer outdoor malls, and this by far is the best one I have been to. There are beautiful fountains and flowers everywhere, nice walkways, a lot of stores to choose from (most are high-end but whatever. It's fun to look.), and a decent assortment of restaurants to choose from. My favorite is Old Town Pour House. As far as parking goes, I think it is congested. Especially on nights and weekends. It's pretty comparable to Woodfield. That is their only downfall. I usually end up parking farrr away and walking, which is fine in the summer but winter not so much! read more

You know how every time you go to the mall, you're like, "Man, this would be so much better if it weren't climate controlled and the stores weren't located so conveniently close to one another"? No? Well apparently someone thought that, and Oakbrook Center, Chicago's "outdoor mall", was born. Chicago has maybe 4 pleasant months per year, weather-wise. So a California-style outdoor mall is the stupidest possible thing you could build in this city. Prepare to freeze your ass off and get hopelessly lost, since the place is really spread out and the maps make no sense. The only conceivable benefit is that the stores are deserted in the non-Christmas-season winter. But then you get hassled by store employees to the point that you want to scream, "GET OUT OF MY LIFE!", and you realize that there is truly nothing good about an outdoor mall in Chicago. read more

Oak Brook Mall is for women what Disney World is like for little girls. Tons of options for shopping and dining. They also have cool events, especially in the spring and summer. Their Father's Day car show is awesome. Their spring time tulip displays are amazing as are their summer flower beds and autumn mums. In high school I worked at Lord and Taylor and Saks. My prom dress from the 80's was from Bonwit's, no longer there but awesome store at the time. Loved it back then and still feel the same way. read more

I'm a fan of outdoor malls - they don't feel claustraphobic and packed. Oak Brook is a favorite of mine, though it is a bit of a trek from my house. Parking is great - getting in and out of the mall is easy. Great variety of stores and restaurants. The place is clean - clean - clean. read more

I really like that this is an outdoor mall, more so in the summer than the winter. They have done a nice job with renovating and getting a movie theater in this mall. AMC is opening an IMAX theater on the second floor over by Nordstrom. The one down by Subway is really nice since they've redone it and it has recliners. They are also building a food court which is something this mall has needed for years. It will be nice to have more food options besides the higher end restaurants once that opens. read more

Oakbrook Center is great, hands down, great. I love this open air mall. It has a great selection of stores from Sephora to Tiffany's. The anchor stores are good, a little bit on the small side, but very good. During Christmastime last year, my bf and I went shopping here for his family gifts. The stores weren't too packed and manageable on a busy night. In Sharper Image, he accidentally parted with his loot and thankfully no one touched it and Christmas was saved! I like Oakbrook Center for the restaurants as well. It's a shopping center with good restaurants like Baisi Thai and a miminal amount of nasty, fast food stuff. I like Oakbrook Center for that even when's it's busy, it's not wall to wall people jammed down a narrow street like Michigan Avenue. It's the one shopping center that I enjoy shopping at during Christmas. read more

I like going this mall, mostly to stroll and look because most of the stores are $$$ expensivo. Even though most of the stores are out of my price range, there are a few that I can afford and I'll go to those, but it's more about the experience. The mall is walk-able, not full of rug-rats or unruly teenagers. For the most part, people are just minding their own business have a nice time walking from store to store. Of course, since I am allergic to the cold...(hate winter) I usually only go when it's nice out...so it's something to look forward to. read more
