I worked for afford a move for 6 months, my experience was extremely disappointing. While I had hoped to be part of a reliable moving company, the reality was quite different. The owner of the company, who is dealing with dementia, was often not present to manage daily operations effectively. for example they don't have their own truck which leads to customers being robed hours taking 1 whole hour in U-Haul getting a truck.This lack of oversight led to confusion and disorganization, which affected the team and our ability to provide quality service to customers. One of the most frustrating aspects of working here was the issue with payment. Despite putting in hard work and long hours, many of us faced significant delays in receiving our paychecks, and in some cases, payments were incomplete or missing altogether. This created a lot of stress among employees who relied on their earnings. In terms of service, there were serious issues with how the company treated customers' belongings. I witnessed instances where items were accidentally damaged during moves, and instead of taking responsibility, some team members would try to hide the damage or downplay the situation. This not only compromised our integrity but also harmed our relationships with clients.I cannot recommend afford a move to potential employees or customers. The combination of poor management and a lack of accountability to both workers and clients makes it difficult to trust the company. I am writing a review on Afford A Move, Doug and his office staff Allison. Doug came over to my home which I was planning on moving. He toured the house and we worked out a plan for moving day and overnight storage of my household belongings. I was very impressed with Doug professionalism and assurance that I was trusting him and his staff to handle my life long belongings. We agreed on the fees and I provided a $400 deposit. Unfortunately I read some bad reviews on Yelp and reconsidered using Afford A Move. I made arrangements with another moving company. When I called to inform both Allison and Doug of my decision to not use their services. They explained to me in detail about the bad reviews and that several were written by the same person or their family, a couple he had no idea who they were. Again Doug could not have been more professional receiving the bad news that I was not going to be a customer. without even asking he volunteered to refund me my deposit. I realized that I had made a very poor decision not to use his services. I want to take this opportunity to share with other potential customers that if you are impacted by the poor reviews you have read. I would strongly recommend that you call Doug and discuss your concerns before making the same poor decision I did by cancelling my contract. We had a difficult, complicated move of a LOT of very heavy antique furniture between two small houses with steep stairs. Doug and his guys were AWESOME - professional, courteous, quick, and impressive. The whole move hardly took any time at all! The furniture and walls were in perfect shape and well positioned in the rooms when they finished in record time. Not only were they just great movers, all of them were great people! Funny, nice, and very happy -- it felt like they were our first guests in our new home, and they made a stressful move 10x more joyful just by hanging around! At the end of the day, this is a great company operated by a whole bunch of great people. We're planning another move in a few years and will definitely be using Afford-A-Move. First of all I met with Doug in August to do a walk thru of my house and give me an estimate, which was extremely reasonable. He could not have been more pleasant and personable. Also quite the jokester. When moving day came the 2 Movers assigned to my move, John & Lee, called and let me know there ETA and arrived on time. They got right to it and had us packed up in a little over an hour. They took great care in our belongings and were very thorough with having me check to be sure they got everything. Our move was to another State (about a 2 hour drive). When John & Lee arrived and started to unload they were sure to ask specifically where things where to be placed. They even disassemble and reassembled our King Size Bed with was a huge plus. I would not hesitate to recommend Afford A Move to anyone. Everyone I had contact with from Doug to Karen & Allison in the Office and especially the Movers John & Lee were fantastic. read more

I was very impressed with Afford-A-Move. Their quality of service for the price was excellent. I have used several big name moving companies in the past and Afford-A-Move meets and/or exceeds the same service for a much lower price. All items were packed appropriately and arrived safely on the other end. I was amazed at how quickly they unloaded - 4 hours for a 3 bedroom house with an unattached oversized garage. They also moved things I was not expecting them to move - a plow, a riding lawnmower, etc. A big shout out to Corey, John and Kip. They drove just under 500 miles, arrived at 5 pm and left at 9 pm the same day. They were accommodating and made sure to ask where each item was to go so it ended up in the right room. GREAT EXPERIENCE ! The crew - led by the owner Doug , were professional and courteous. Prior to entering the house the men laid out mats and showed concern for our new hardwood floors - they even covered the hall railing protecting it from damage. My agency has used Afford-A-Move twice in the past two weeks. They were flexible, on time, and two different crews worked without stopping the whole time. They were very professional, laying padding to protect the doorway, stairway banisters, and walls before moving the first piece of furniture. Even the furniture bank where we were picking up furniture asked who the movers we used were because they noticed their efforts, and they see a LOT of movers. I can't say enough about Afford-A-Move. They came to my house and quickly gave me an estimate that was half of what was quoted by another company! The day of the move John and Sean showed up and got things packed up very quickly, safely and efficiently. Very pleased with the service and professionalism of the crew! The movers arrived on time and packed up my apartment in an hour and a half. Very quick and efficient! I have to say the moving crew were professional and courteous. They moved us with a 2 day from Amesbury to Merrimack. This was a big move. We had a 3 bedroom home with a full basement and garage.
