Their office will ask your for the vital information of your broken appliance, and this information will be sent to Lou, the repair wizard. Lou will call you back to schedule a service date and he will either get the machine back up and running or, at the very least, diagnose the problem for you and present options. Lou replaced the valve for the hot/cold mixing on our washing machine for what I think was a very fair price. While working he asked me if I had a handyman who could replace my hot and cold water hoses that were dripping. When I told him no I didn't, he drove to Home Depot to get new hoses and installed them for me for cost only. And when my wife told Lou about the dishwasher soap door wouldn't open, he stayed well into the evening and took the door apart, got it working like new without needing to replace any parts. I had a dishwasher that stopped working, so I called Lou at Affordable Appliance Repair after searching on Yelp. I wanted someone who is reliable, professional, respectful, and capable of doing the job. He came to do the initial consultation for $150 and was able to diagnose the dishwasher. I appreciate that he lets me know the problem with my appliance before proceeding with the work. I was very happy that he was able to fix my dishwasher and I haven't had issues with it since then. Months later, my washing machine gave out and I called Lou immediately for help. He's very honest and straightforward, so he didn't push his repair services on me if he feels it isn't necessary for the consumer. He mentioned that the cost of repairing my old washing machine will end up costing more than half the price of a new machine (assuming worst case scenario). My washing machine was 17 years old. He suggested I do my homework and rethink about shelling my money for his repair services. After doing my research, I felt he was right to consider a new washing unit. Lou Bennett was recommended to me by a friend when I needed my whirlpool lower of 2 ovens fixed. He repaired the oven and charged us almost $600, which we paid by check. Before leaving, he tested the lower oven. He canceled my husband's test of the upper oven saying it was fine. I had used the upper oven 2 hours before he arrived and it worked perfectly, yet the morning after he fixed the lower oven, it did not work. I called him in the morning to explain the problem, expecting that he would respond that he would come out again and see what the problem was. WRONG! His response was to deny all responsibility and told me I would need to pay for an additional service call and he went so far as to accuse me of setting him up! At that point, even though he agreed to come out again, his belligerent and defensive behavior did not inspire trust so we placed a stop payment on the check. While I have never been moved to do this in my life, I felt it necessary to deny him payment until we had a Whirlpool service representative assess the problem. Upon reflection, because we are fair people, my husband and I notified Mr. Bennett that we would pay him for the parts, $271 and just incur the additional cost of having the upper oven fixed. This set off a tsunami of texts and certified mail from Mr. Bennett. His behavior ranged from the ridiculous to the alarming. He threatened to take us to small claim's court for thousands of dollars. While this did not bother me, my husband is particularly risk adverse. Based on the initial opinion of the second service person that the problem was not caused by Mr. Bennett's work and may have been a coincidence, my husband mailed him a cashier's check for the full value of his work. In exchange, he offered to send us a document releasing us of all further liability. To this date he has not fulfilled this promise. Subsequent to mailing him payment, we learned that the problem in the upper oven was due to the improper installation of the gasket that Mr. Bennett installed. This cost us an additional $700. Mr. Bennett is both dishonorable and not that competent. Don't use him. read more

I woke up to a terrible smell coming from my kitchen in the morning. I opened my dishwasher to unload the clean dishes and the smell was coming from a piece of melted white plastic that had wrapped itself around the heating coil at the bottom of the dishwasher. It made all of the other plastic items we had in the dishwasher smell terrible and chemically too. My husband and I tried to take it off but it was wrapped tightly and I was afraid of damaging the dishwasher even further. I immediately went on Yelp to find a dishwasher repair service in my area and this was the first one that popped up. I called and left a message as the owner Lou was out in the field, and called two other places for quotes. I texted photos of my dishwasher along with serial number to all 3 companies and the first one quoted me $236 to order a replacement coil ($71) and for the labor for an hour ($160). The second one quoted me $250 total for the same. They both said it would take a couple of days to order the part and then they could schedule the repair which would take an hour. The last one to give me a call back and a quote was Lou, and I'm sure glad I waited to hear back from him! He was super nice on the phone, very down-to-earth guy, and after looking at the photos I texted him he told me that he was pretty sure I could remove the plastic by myself with a pair of pliers. I was very dubious, being a petite gal with very little upper arm strength who is not by nature very handy around the house. But Lou convinced me to give it a try, giving me instructions to put a bunch of ice around it to get it nice and cold and then let it sit for a while before trying to get it off with the pliers. I said that I would give it a shot, but desperately doubting myself I asked if Lou could come and get it off if I wasn't successful and how much it might cost. He said he certainly could, but it might take a little while and would be $125 for the labor, which was still the least expensive quote I had heard even just comparing an hour of labor. Lou told me to give it a try and that he was sure I could do it. He said, "I can come and do it for you, but this should be pretty easy and I'm trying to save you some money." Wow. Pretty amazing right? Totally unconvinced of my abilities, I did as he said and amazingly enough it worked! I was able to get it all off after about 30 minutes of working the pliers around the plastic and it was as good as new. Even my hubby was impressed after I texted him some photos and he said I was Wonder Woman ‍ :) On top of that, Lou called me at the end of the day to ask how it went and if I was able to get it off. I told him that it worked and he's amazing because he is and so honest! For any other appliance repairs I would definitely call him first. Well, I am writing this review to show my appreciation for Lou, who saved me the cost of his service call by telling me how to repair my gas oven igniter, which I installed backwards, therefore was smelling gas when I was using the oven. When I explained to him the issue I was having, I had already replaced the ignitor twice, first one was cheap knock off and broke, so I tried again, but was still smelling gas when baking. I was ready to hand it over to a professional and reached out for service. Lou asked me a few questions and said he would save me the service call with his recommendation to check out a few things with the installation I had done. Sure enough, it was my error as I installed it incorrectly. I re-installed, which took care of the issue. I do not know of any other service repair businesses that would skip their service call and empower the customer. Totally honest and a pleasure to learn from. I called on my dishwasher and after giving him the model he got back to me and gave me repair options but also that if the main board goes bad, that part is no longer available. He could have made money by doing the repair but recommended buying a new dishwasher and not risk spending money and then having the part he can't get go bad. His experience is that would happen. T'was the week before Christmas All through the kitchen Not a cookie was bakin' And the wife was a bitchin' (More accurately crying, but that doesn't rhyme.) (Apologizes to Clement Clarke Moore for the butchery of his beloved poem!) One of Laina's holiday traditions is to bake snowballs and almond butter cookies for co-workers and a short list of relations. This year after the first batch of almond butter cookies were finished, the coil in the oven exclaimed as it lost all its heat, "Merry Christmas to all, and to all I am beat!" There was going to be no time after the current weekend to get all her baking done, so we needed a plan "B" and we needed it quick. Laina had been recently discussing convection ovens with some co-workers and after doing some research online, we found one at Target which was suitable for baking snowballs (no almond butter cookies this year). So we sprang to Niro, to the engine we gave a whistle and off to Target we drove like a down of a thistle. Once at Target, we went straight to our work, found the oven we needed and then turned with a jerk. We were able to get the online price ($30.00 savings) because Target will price match and in no time we were back in our four-wheeled sleigh and headed home. The convection oven saved us from a Christmas disaster, but really wasn't practical as a substitute for our oven, so once the baking was done, we returned the convection oven to Target. This still left us with a broken electrical oven and my DNA lacks the "handyman" gene. I can diagnose issues with a reasonable amount of accuracy, but I am pretty useless when it comes repairs and I never mess with electrical problems. Rohlinism: Applying Trial and Error to electrical issues will always end up a "shocking" experience. Laina started calling local handymen and was most impressive with the responsiveness and helpfulness of Lou with Affordable Appliance Repair. Other businesses were less responsive and no help when it came to locating the model number for the oven. We didn't know where it was located and had thrown out the user manual years ago. Lou was the only person who told her where it should be located and once he had the model number he was able to schedule an appointment a day later to replace the coil. He responded to Laina's texts and was on time for the appointment. I was referred to Lou by Saddleback Appliance. They said if he can't fix it then they could order a new over that would take 60 days and cost $3000.00. Outstanding Service, Integrity and Goodwill !!! My Bosch dishwasher wasn't working. I called and spoke with Lou. After questioning me down, and instructing how to do some simple diagnostics on my machine, Lou was able to diagnose that my dishwasher pump was no longer working. Lou then looked up my machine model and learned Bosch no longer makes the replacement pump necessary to salvage my machine. Despite not being able to provide a repair service, and make any money off me, Lou still, graciously, offered advice on what brand dishwashers have the best performance, and recommended local retail stores that sell those brand dishwashers. Our ice maker wasn't working properly so I reached out to a handful of businesses that listed ice maker repairs as part of what they do. I included some specifics in my request for quotes, and Lou was THE ONLY person to respond with some information. All the other businesses said the default "Unable to provide service". I have a 15yr old KitchenAid freestanding fridge that started acting up and after looking on Nextdoor and Yelp, I decided to give Lou a call. He said it definitely sounds like the main control circuit board has gone bad. He also said that board had been discontinued quite some time ago and that the only solution would likely be to send my board out and have it reconditioned..... BUT he would check with some of his contacts to see if a reconditioned one was available and would get back to me. It was the weekend, so I figured it would be Monday before possibly hearing back from him. Well in the meantime, I spoke to another repair person who said it definitely sounds like a failed main board, but didn't offer any real solution since he said that board was no longer available. Although I thought Lou probably wouldn't get back to me, to my surprise, he called me to say he had located a circuit board for me. I was a bit surprised and commended him for following up, but told him I had decided to replace the whole fridge. So because of him actually taking the time to source a replacement circuit board and following up with me, when most others probably wouldn't (considering the board had been discontinued), I figured I'd give him a good Yelp review even though I didn't have him fix my fridge. My plumber recommended AAR when we had (what we thought was) a leak on our Samsung washing machine. They have a call service, so I didn't need to leave a VM and "hope" that I'd get a call back. The owner (Lou) called me back and actually did troubleshooting over the phone. He even gave me some tips and told me he'd call back in an hour to check on me... which he did! Turned out that it may have been a simple overflow from too much detergent and not a leak. Lou even called me back the next morning and gave me some additional recommendations-he'd done some research overnight and uncovered a potential issue that he hadn't covered over the troubleshooting call. We tested it again and... no leaks. All this and NO charge for his time and no attempt to get a service call out of me. AMAZING customer service!
