Another company I had spoken with had quoted me more than twice the price, I guess because the cameras they use are fancy or something? I don't know, because the ones Ernesto installed are great and doing precisely what I wanted. When I was on my search for home security cameras, I kept mostly finding things like ADT, SimpliSafe, or something else that was largely about selling you the monitoring plan; the equipment I think was less expensive but then you're paying for the monitoring. I am not generally a fan of the everything-is-now-a-subscription-or-service thing nor do I want to be beholden to whatever rates a company decides to charge. Some of those also were self-install options, which didn't interest me at all. They hooked up several cameras at our home to provide various views, including the basement since I wanted to be able to see what's happening down there when I'm upstairs. The system has a hard drive that can support up to eight cameras. We can save photos, videos, and also play back to see what happened earlier in the recording on the various cameras. Although they could have provided a monitor, we don't really have a place for it so we simply have an app on our phone through which we can view the cameras. I'm not sure why, but I thought it would go much more quickly than it did. I have no frame of reference to know how long it should have taken so that's not a criticism. It took about six hours total but having it done well was the most important part. I would highly the crew at 606 installs for their professionalism, reasonable rate, and excellent work.

Vivint locks you into a 5-year contract that sounds great on paper but turns into a nightmare fast. The reps sound helpful... until it's time to actually fix something. Then you're bounced around from department to department, nobody has real answers, and the solutions? Nonexistent. They're quick to take your money, but if you need help or want out? Good luck. I recently sold my home and sold the Vivint equipment with it -- thinking, naturally, that the new owner would take over the service. WRONG. Vivint does NOT require the new homeowner to take over the contract. Even if they agree initially, their sales reps can and will talk them out of it. Yes, you read that right. So now guess what? Vivint is charging both ME and the new owner for the same service at the same property. Even worse? Because the panel is still at the old address, I can't access my account, update anything, or unlink my info. Their tech system literally doesn't allow them to separate the panel from the original account. Their solution? "Buy more equipment at your new place" to finish the contract -- to the tune of $1,000+. Or, cancel early and pay 50% of your remaining contract. Either way, you lose. Lesson learned the hard way: If you still move forward with Vivint (and I highly suggest you don't), then make sure your sales contract with the buyer includes a mandatory service account takeover. Honestly though? Just don't buy from Vivint. Their customer service is garbage, their system is flawed, and their business model is shady. Save yourself the stress, the money, and the BS. You've been warned.
