My furnace was blowing cold when I awoke, so I called several HVAC companies and no one was available for days on an 11 degree day. I contacted EconoTemp and they told me they could have a technician to my house by noon. Perfect. Tavares arrive soon after noon and immediately started the trouble shooting. I needed an igniter, and the overheat protection switch was stuck in overheat. He was able to fix that switch without replacing it, and diagnosed a failing blower motor capacitor, which might have been causing the blower motor to not move the heat out efficiently. My next door neighbor recommended their services so I thought I would give them a try when our heating/cooling simply stopped working this morning. (From what I understand, while they used to be called Econo Temp, they recently were purchased/merged with First Care Heating & Air, and their HVAC techs seems to still be the same experienced techs which were from Econo Temp). In any event, their HVAC service professional--Paul Petrakovitz--came over the same day to fix our heating/cooling issue. I found him to be honest and forthright about the issue and cost involved. The pricing was reasonable (under $300 for everything), and he had enough time to do a seasonal maintenance & cleaning of our outdoor AC unit (he washed out all of the cottonwood in the unit), performed cooling maintenance for the main system, & checked all of the wiring and controls. Furnace stopped working on Sunday morning with temperature below freezing, would start, then shut off. I called Econotemp late afternoon and they had someone at my house in 15 mins! After listening to me tell him what was wrong, he inspected the furnace, asked me questions about the Ecobee app settings that my furnace ran on, and discovered that my only problem was a dirty filter which he was able to replace for me after a quick return to his company. He advised me to check the filter after a couple weeks to make sure it was not dirty which might indicate my vents need cleaning. My whole cost, including the filter, was $45.00! read more

I first used Econotemp over 20 years ago for a whole new system install in a former house. There were equipment issues, but they made it right and replaced the whole unit. I have been a parts customer every few years since then. They've always been a good place to buy parts. They're never as cheap as the internet, but you get the value of the knowledge behind the counter, quick pickup and not too much sticker shock. I am saddened that they have now gone to 8-4 M-F parts hours as we all know HVAC only breaks on weekends. Their website says they're concentrating on the service side now and I understand as I'm sure the web has killed the parts business. I gave them a call to schedule a service visit and ended up not making the appointment. The person on the phone was not friendly... not nasty, but not friendly - strike 1. When I asked a very specific question, I got an answer that I can only interpret as being a lie geared toward selling more systems since I know for a fact they were incorrect - strike 2. Finally, when I asked for service pricing I was told it's $129 for the call and first 30 minutes, and then $2/minute after that. They empasized there was no guarantee the system could be fixed (again, here comes the new system quote) - strike 3. My gut said no thanks, I will look elsewhere, so I did. Now to be fair, their service prices are not crazy compared to others, so that wasn't the deal killer. The whole interaction just left me feeling like I was well on my way to a bad experience and a very big number. Should I need parts, I will likely be a customer, but I doubt I will call them for service. YMMV read more

I have a 20+ year old wall air conditioner unit in my condo, and as long as I've been here (3 years), I've never had a filter for it. I have had to call them out every year for the last 3 years because my electric furnace has stopped working during the winter. Until this year the problem has been wires breaking from overheating. Each year I -paid about $250 to have the wires replaced. . The repairman also explained why the wires were overheating and cut a new opening in the heat duct to correct the problem. it took them 3 years of replacing burned out wires to correct the problem causing the wires to burn out I checked the price of the heat sequencer Econotemp sold me for $240 and discovered I could have ordered it myself for $120 from Honeywell (part R8330 I-1039). It took them 3 years of visits to correct the problem causing the wires to burn out each year. This last visit they sold me a part with a 100% markup over factory cost.. If I ever have to call them again to work on my furnace I will ask them to give me a list of parts needed and independently find out how much they cost. I will also ask them to give me a guarantee they have fixed the cause of the problem and not just the symptom. To be fair I should mention that since this year's visit the furnace seems to be working very well. The overheating problem is fixed and the new sequencer is working perfectly. read more

If this is the same Econotemp that was located in Downers Grove on Belmont street, beware? There was a time when you seen plenty of their trucks in the area. They have just about faded away. Maybe it was their poor customer service. Case and point, years back I had a Bryant HVAC system installed here. Within the first month the A coil was freezing up because of freon leaks. It happened at least 3 times before they fix it. So right after the 5 year warranty on the compressor was up the compressor went out. I had them out and was told the compressor is bad. I ask if running it low on freon for that time until Econotemp finally fix the leaks would damage the compressor? He said no which is a lie. So I ask what would it cost me to fix it? Recently had the computer module on my heater go out leaving my house at 40 degrees. I couldn't be more please with my experience! I needed an inducer blower for my 20 year old Lennox furnace. They immediately knew what I was talking about and didn't talk down to me. They had the item in stock for a price close to where they are on Internet sites and completely reasonable for the convenience of local pickup. I'll gladly pay an extra $30 to get the part NOW and not have my pipes freeze! The best thing is they actually saved me about $400 by picking up the part from them and installing it myself rather than having an HVAC contractor do it. Update from what I THOUGHT was a good experience from Four Seasons Heating and Cooling. Just FOUR DAYS AFTER Four Seasons Heating and Cooling telling me how well my A/C was running AND CHARGING ME $236 for 15-20 minutes of a Freon charge, I came home to an incredibly loud sound like a bad jet engine coming from behind my house (in 90 degree weather, no less). The motor was blown so the fan was not moving, but it was trying, thus making the LOUD noise. I shut off the A/C immediately and called Four Seasons back. The girl on the phone said she'd have someone come back out right away, BUT IT WOULD COST ANOTHER $89 SERVICE CALL! I explained they were just out to my house to work on it ONLY FOUR DAYS EARLIER and such, but she stood firm... it would cost $89 to send someone out. We went back and forth and ultimately, I had to give in. As I had few choices, I reluctantly agreed. After hanging up the phone, I was so upset, that I sent an email to them stating the story in great detail, and suggesting this would most likely turn into a BBB complaint as well as a letter to Lisa Madigan's office. That's when customer service called back immediately to say they would waive the fee. The tech came out and within a second (with the fan working now) said, "Oh yeah... it's your motor, I can hear it. I can fix it now for $810. $810???!!!! I asked how much an entire new A/C unit installed would run and he said.... $6,000+ if I financed it, around $5,500 if I paid cash. I asked him what about ALL OF THEIR ADVERTISING FOR LENNOX A/C FOR $2,495, as seen in their mailings, coupon magazines and even on their website. He said, "Oh, that's for the smallest A/C they make and it's just dropped off in your back yard. It's not even installed. WTF??? NOT EVEN INSTALLED? AND ONLY GOOD FOR ABOUT A 700 SQ FT HOUSE? NOW I DEFINITELY FEEL THE NEED TO CONTACT LISA MADIGAN'S OFFICE AND FILE A DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING COMPLAINT. I told him how ridiculous all of this was... and so he left. HERE'S WHERE THE STORY GETS HAPPY AGAIN... THANKS TO ECONOTEMP! I ordered the new OEM motor from a company in Downers Grove I've used for years. EconoTemp on Belmont Ave. (Great family business) . The motor cost $130.00. The tech just left having put it in for only $159.00 Total paid to EconoTemp - $289 for what Four Seasons wanted $810! I got a firm quote on a new A/C with EVERYTHING such as a new pad, new A coil, phelm work, sheet metal work, new lines, etc... everything included!. Getting a BIGGER A/C unit INSTALLED for $2,820 with EconoTemp as opposed to the $5,500 - $6,000+ that Four Seasons wanted! $2,820 for a larger unit... I have used Econotemp to service my furnace and AC at my Lisle home for the past 10 years. Have always been pleased , they kept my older equipment running at a very reasonable cost. Last week my AC unit [18 years old] had a major malfunction. It had tripped the circuit breaker, was so hot I almost called FD, and I could smell the fried wires. I called Econotemp, the very nice lady in the office said a tech could be out the next day at 730 AM. She also mentioned that based on problem and age of unit, I should be prepared for possibility that it would need to be replaced. I was fully expecting this. The tech, Bruce, was here today, right on time. I watched as he exposed the melted part and waited for the bad news. Well, he got a new part from his van, rewired some stuff, and it worked! Then he carefully cleaned out the gook from the meltdown with dish soap. Not saying that they can bring every dead unit back to life, but they could have easily just told me the whole thing needed to be replaced. I went to Econo Temp to try to find some parts to repair my furnace when a repairman from another company turned out to be useless and incompetent. Steve was helpful and friendly, and offered to test the blower motor to help diagnose what the problem was. Once I found out the motor was bad, Steve not only had one in stock, but loaned me tools and help so I could install it into the housing on the spot. I woke up this morning to find my furnace was not working. I am pretty handy and noticed the furnace started and then stopped. I suspected a flame sensor.
