Small, simple menu of the classic favorites. They have a lamb shank/chicken entrees section as well as some kebab plates. No alcohol unfortunately:/ We got a couple lamb shank dishes - the Kabuli Palow (national dish) and lamb shank mughali. The flavor of these were almost identical, both were cooked w/ eggplants in a tomatoey stew. The only difference is the Kabuli Palow had some raisins&carrots mixed in w/ the rice and came w/ a small side cucumber salad. The lamb meat itself was fall of the bone tender. The rice was a tad too wet & bland, & I wish the the meat for that matter had a little more flavor as well. However the sauces provided & side of garlic naan we ordered helped greatly to spice up the dishes - I particularly enjoyed the Mexican style habanero salsa (quite hot!) & the Indian style green chutney. Overall tasty but a bit too mild flavor wise for me.

Last time I visited, I didn't update my review cos everything was still superb. This time, I decided to update for the exact same reason.: Afghan Kitchen remains a genuine must-try for... well... everybody. The quality of the food, the portion sizes, the speed of service and the friendliness of the staff are all absolutely spot-on. This place is a true gem.

Oh this is definitely a new fav of mine in SLC. SO SO SO GOOD. The staff is kind and the service felt fast. We ordered two mango yogurts which were sooo good and taste just like mango lassi to me. We got the dinner for 2 meal and garlic naan. We first got served the mantu and variety of sauces. The mantu is to yum and love the lentils with it too. Great sauce. The dinner for 2 comes with a variety of things: rice, biryani, eggplant, beef kebab, chicken, and salad. Every part of the meal was so so so good. There wasn't one thing we didn't like. Our favorite part was the eggplant and biryani!

One of my favorite restaurants in SLC. I made a review at the other location so please refer to that one for additional details. This location is the original location so there's less seating but still plenty of parking. Food is phenomenal regardless of the location. The family style dishes are highly recommended if it is your first time so you can try a sampling of different dishes. I shared the two person meat one and it was more than enough food with chicken, ground beef, eggplant, cucumber and tomato, two types of rice and beef mantu or dumplings. There can be a wait if they are busy but overall service is fast and friendly. Definitely one of the most unique restaurants in SLC.

My boyfriend and I brought my parents here for dinner because my boyfriend and I love Afghan Kitchen so much, and my parents loved it! Every time we come here, the warm, welcoming smell of delicious food envelops us the moment we walk in. Minar, the server, is always the most wonderful person: she's friendly, upbeat, and amazing in every aspect! The food is the best we've had! They put some kind of flavor-filled seasoning on many of their food items (it almost looks like paprika, but it's more flavorful and tastier). The seasoning is so good, my boyfriend will make sure every grain is consumed by scraping it up with garlic naan from our plates! We were also able to try their rose water ice cream, which I do not know if they have on their menu consistently. It was some of the best ice cream I've ever had! It had a distinct rose flavor, but it was so mellow in a good way. Topped with crushed pistachios (as you can see in the picture), I would legitimately be able to eat an entire gallon of this by myself! Their pudding, Firni, is also the best pudding I've had! The flavor is mellow, but you can taste cardamom in it, giving it an extra unique flavor that makes your taste buds crave more! They also put crushed pistachios on top, which adds a delightful texture! I would want to order this, and I would take this to parties because it's such a delicious flavor that everyone needs to try! Everything is house-made--their sauces, their naan, their dessert... everything! And I feel like family when I dine here! I am blown away by the quality of Afghan Kitchen on Main Street!

On a quiet corner in South Salt Lake, you'll find Afghan Kitchen: a humble establishment with friendly service, orange decor, and, most importantly, delicious food. After partaking of the Mixed Dashi (chicken and beef with grilled vegetables) and the lamb national dish, I was thoroughly convinced of Afghanistan's exquisite cuisine. Both dishes came with basmati rice, four different sauces, and a waiter's friendly smile. The flavors weren't intense as Indian food; they were comforting, interesting, and fresh.

I've never had such a bad experience before. The cobwebs in the cup and the hairs on the seat were truly disgusting. This place definitely needs to be disinfected.

Firni, their milk pudding dessert is a must try after we demolished all the other things we ordered!

Wow, so many friends have been recommending this place and we finally went out to try it tonight! The food was insanely beautiful and delicious, came out super fast, and everyone was so incredibly nice. The location is unassuming but as soon as you walk in you feel at home. We will definitely be back!!

We've eaten here many times and the food never disappoints. Talk about flavor town! My husband and I like to get the My Meating, which is served family style. It could easily feed three people, even though it says it's for two people. The sauces served on the side are all unique in their own way and give you the option to change the flavors in whatever you are eating. Service is always good, the cozy atmosphere is nice. The place is a hole in the wall, don't let that keep you from eating here. I like Afghan food better than Indian food, which I love.

Sometimes I eat here two days in a row because it's just that good. The restaurant recently opened their doors to all ages which is a huge plus. But kids can only eat inside the restaurant (patio seating is 21+). Today, my family had the "DK Experience" which is a six course meal that feeds 4-6 people. It was PLENTY of food and everything was delicious. You do not need to order anything extra because it is a good amount of food. The best part is the duck - so flavorful and beautifully cooked. We spent about 2 hours here as each course is made to order, so be aware of that if you're also ordering the DK Experience. My favorite dish here is the Three cup chicken. The flavor has so much depth and is beautiful seasoned. Be sure to visit during their lunch happy hour for the best deals in town. Thank you Drunken Kitchen for cooking up the best Chinese food in SLC - see you next time!

I told her it was my first visit so she reviewed the menu and gave me a few recommendations. Unfortunately the experience went downhill from here. I was dining with a friend for an early lunch. We ordered the pork pot stickers to share. Then we also ordered sticky ribs, chicken sando and egg drop soup. The server took our order and returned promptly with our drinks. After some time passed the server returned to inform us the ribs were sold out and provided us with a menu to look at other options. A little more time passed and then more bad news the egg drop soup was also out of stock. We declined on ordering anything else and I asked if my chicken sando was still coming and was told yes it's on it's way. Meanwhile we watched three other tables arrive and place orders and even receive their food and yet my chicken sando was still missing. I flagged down our server and again was told my chicken was coming. Another 15 minutes passed and still not sandwich. I politely flagged down our server and requested the check as our lunch experience had gone on for over an hour now and still our food was incomplete. We got an apology and the bill and began to exit. As we were leaving the server arrived at our table with a takeout bag with my chicken sando. I'm not sure what was happening on this visit but something felt very off at the Drunken Kitchen. First impressions are very important especially in a dining experience and this first impression was not good at all.

It made ordering easy, and everything we tried was delicious and flavorful. I had the breakfast protein bowl and loved it. Our server, David, was wonderful. A Place That Fails on Every Level, Safety, Integrity, and Basic Care…read more I've eaten here multiple times and every visit left me, my friends and family feeling physically ill. Why? Because they use cheap low quality canola oil and it shows both on the palate and in the body. But the deeper issue isn't just what's in the food. It's what's rotting beneath the surface. A close friend of mine Brittney (17 and under age in this experience) reached out to the owner to explore a collaborative business opportunity. Instead of professionalism she was met with a shocking invitation to hot tub together. Completely inappropriate and wildly unprofessional. Even more disturbing are the longstanding sexual allegations against kitchen staff he's kept on for years. Employees are routinely fired often for things they didn't do while the owner claims surveillance cameras prove it. Yet those cameras never seem to catch actual wrongdoing. Convenient isn't it. Meanwhile he creates a culture of fear instability and dismissal. People are disposable. Boundaries are not respected whether in the kitchen or in conversation. This isn't just a bad dining experience. This is a pattern of neglect abuse of power and willful ignorance. I urge you support businesses that respect people, employees, customers and community. This is not one of them.
