Lamb with Rice Rice with Chicken Sokaar

What an amazing experience! Some of the best food I have ever had. I had the lamb and rice and the lamb was so tender and I never knew you could make rice taste so delicious. The seating space in this restaurant is limited so get there early or call in your order. The portions of food are huge and I will be coming back again in the near future.

Visited this Somali restaurant while I was in Park City for a ski weekend . We had a craving for Somali food so we made the 40+ mile trip to Noor restaurant. It did not disappoint! We had the Beef steak, Lamb and Macaroni with Alfredo. They didn't have fresh Shah (Somali Chai) so the nice lady made it fresh for us. The chai was piping hot, made with boiled milk, cardamom and star anise. The tea was my favorite part of the meal but the best dish was the beef steak- extremely flavorful with tomatoes, onions and xawaash (a variety of mixed spices used in Somali dishes.). Do not underestimate this unassuming gem!

The food was awesome, we were simply bummed out about the sambusa, apparently they have orders until about noon The lamb came out rather quickly, and was prefectly cooked. I ended up rolling the chapatti and lamb like burritos. The ranch and jalapeño paste all went well together.. The bottled water did concern me at first, but everything turned out fantastically

First off...I drove past this place because it is hard to find. It isn't located in front of the strip mall, but instead is on the rear south side. Once inside there were plenty of tables and a counter to place your order off the menu overhead. We were the only ones there at lunch, except another patron that came in for some takeout. They had a TV on with a live stream of Mecca, complete with lots of praying and walking around the monument. Hopefully this doesn't bother you because there is some really interesting and delicious food to be experienced. While we were waiting we started with some Sambuusa appetizers, a Somali version of the samosa. They were chock full of ground lamb and veggies and I was really glad we ordered them. It took a little while for our meals to be prepared, so a snack was perfect. Deciding what to get when you order off the menu board above the counter is a little daunting, but the employees here were more than willing to answer any questions. The plates of food here are humongous. What you get for $10 is truly a deal and enough for two. There are some really random things on the menu like chicken wings and pizza. I so want to come back and order a goat pizza. For some reason that sounds hilarious to me and I know of no other place where this is possible. I decided to try the Veggie Soor with Marak. It was a big plate of a vegetable stew, corn grits (Soor), a salad, and a bowl of lamb soup (Maraq). It was delicious and filling but I could help being jealous of my coworkers entree. My dining companion ordered the lamb and rice. It was a big plate of this beautiful basamati rice pilaf with tons of vegetables and raisins (think Indian Bryani) and a big serving of barbequed lamb. It came with a salad and a bowl of the Maraq soup. After chatting a while with the very friendly staff, I asked what else was good on the menu. The nice employee recommended the chicken and rice and said it was her favorite. I promised to come back to try it out. You can't help but feeling adventurous dining here.

Don't let the location or look from the outside stop you, this place is so good! It is an order at the counter place but they make your food fresh, so you will wait a bit for your food. But they brought us complementary soup while we waited (which was good). I had the Saltato with lamb and my husband had the rice chicken with sokaar. They were both good but I liked his better as mine was a bit spicy for me. The food was plated beautifully. This is definitely a place for those who like to try new places, they have chicken wings and fries on the menu, but unless your kids are adventurous eaters, not really a kid restaurant. It was empty on a Saturday at lunch, but might get busy with the work lunch crowd and only a handful of tables.

This place ranks high on the "legit" scale; definitely run by immigrants, and with a crowd of Somali guys shooting the breeze outside. I'm pretty sure I was the only non-Somali there. Dinner was Pasta Saldato with lamb shank. (I didn't realize that pasta was a thing in Somalia, although it makes sense given their history as an Italian colony.) Definitely exotic, with fresh grilled veggies and a good mix of flavors. Spicy. Lamb shank was fall-off-the-bone. Would visit again.

Blink and you'll miss it! This restaurant is worth the hunt. It's located on the side of a small strip mall, and it has seating for just about 25 people. I grabbed my food to go which is what I imagine most people do from here. I've never had Somali food, but after trying Noor, I'd definitely like to have it again sooner rather than later. I ordered the vegetarian soor and a side of chapati. It will feed me twice. Their dinner portion is huge! The staff was very nice and eager to explain what the different dishes included. The menu on the wall lists the prices for lunch. I thought my dinner was $5, but they explained the dinner was an up charge. Regardless, the amount of food I got for $12 was well worth it!

This place is amazing. The Chicken Noor and Lamb dish were a treat. I wish we had a place like this in San Francisco!

The sambusa was fresh, flavorful, and balanced. I loved the chapati, particularly with the green sauce (which they were so kind as to provide more of when I ran out). You can tell the dishes are prepared the traditional way, and everything tasted homemade and satisfying. If you enjoy bold seasoning and hearty meals, you won't be disappointed. The portions were generous and well worth the price, and the menu offers a good variety whether you're trying something new or ordering a familiar favorite. The injera was fresh and soft, and the meats and stews were flavorful without being overly heavy. Service was friendly and welcoming. The staff made us feel comfortable and were happy to answer questions about the menu, which is great if it's your first time trying this type of cuisine. The ambiance is simple and casual, not fancy, but clean and comfortable. It's more of a relaxed, laid-back spot than a formal dining place, which actually fits the experience well. Overall, this is a solid place for authentic African food. If you're looking for real flavor and a warm atmosphere rather than a trendy restaurant vibe, Horn of Africa is definitely worth visiting. I'll be coming back.
