Our AC stopped cooling so we scheduled a service appointment with AFM. The first tech they sent didn't know anything about heat pumps so he left. The second tech was supposed to have experience but he couldn't find the problem either. (His only accomplishment was to leave grease fingerprints on my white cloth barstool cover.) I was on the phone with his boss at one point trying to explain what might have caused the issue but was told that my AC couldn't be repaired because they couldn't get parts for my outdated unit; I would need a new unit at a cost of $3450. (Service call cost of $180 was to be credited to the new unit cost but the estimate only showed $100 credit). We were able to find the "unavailable" part on Amazon so we were clearly lied to a couple of times. We had a different company come out. They found the issue (a blown capacitor) and had my AC running within 30 minutes. When I do need a new AC, I will go to Kelley Brothers LC instead. They have technicians that are knowledgeable, experienced, courteous, clean, and respectful. read more

I have used several HVAC companies in the past and none come close to the quality and professionalism of AFM Heating and Cooling. I have used them for almost two years now and feel confident in their work to recommend them to others. First, their prices are very reasonable. I have had both furnaces and water heaters installed and can assure you that I have paid prices that are below market value. How do I know? I have asked other people in the industry who have affirmed that I got a good deal. Moreover, I checked at Home Depot what it costs for a new water heater and they charged me less for it AND to install it. In other words, the water heater with installation by AFM is less than what a single water heater with no installation costs at a big box store. Second, they back their work up. In situations where something did not work, I simply call them up and someone has come up to take care of it without being charged for a service call. Third, they get out their as quickly as possible. On several occasions, I have called a specific day and someone has come out a few hours later. They have also scheduled me in advance and have come at that specific time without any problems. Fourth, they pull permits, follow code, and communicate with city inspectors for you. They also will contact the manufacturer on your behalf to order a new part if something malfunctions. This is important since it means they honor their work and hold themselves responsible. This is actually quite rare in the HVAC industry. It is also worth noting that they are licensed and insured, which is not always the case with a lot of HVAC people. Fifth, they have an office and keep records. They do not operate out of a van like 90% of HVAC people who disappear right after you pay them. They keep records of the work that they have done at your place and follow up with you. Additionally, the staff there is very accessible and prompt. I have communicated with them through phone, email, and even text message. They really do build their service around their customers' needs. Anyway, unless you feel comfortable working on large mechanical devices like water heaters and furnaces that can potentially cause lots of damage and even kill you in the case of a furnace (i.e. carbon monoxide poisoning), I recommend using this company. Out heat unfortunately quit working around 4am.. we waited until morning to call around. Out of 4 places this was the only place that actually picked up the phone! I guess everyone was so swamped with calls? They were able to get someone out within a few hours! Super thankful for AFM! The man that showed up was nice! He was wrong about the problem we had & actually had to come back the next day, he waved the fees from the first day, as it turns out we need a new furnace!! Bummer! Im glad we were able to get a temp fix within hours, with it being January the last thing we want is a freezing cold house! Another company said they could come out Tomorrow!!! Holy cow... could not have been better! I flew in the night before my father was scheduled to have a major surgery to find that his air conditioning had just gone down. In August. As we were planning on having both him and another member of our family recovering at our house for the next week, this wasn't going to fly. I found AFM Heating & Cooling after a quick internet search and called them. It was after 5pm but they picked up right away. I explained the situation and they said they could come the next morning at 10am. The next morning they called at 9:30am and were here by 9:45am. They QUICKLY diagnosed the problem, gave me a quote, fixed and recharged the AC, and replaced our air filter. I literally could not believe how cheap and quick it was. What a relief! Our A/C stopped working on Friday 6/22/2020 (the hottest day of the year so far!!!) the unit is only 3 1/2 years old. So I called a few places that did not return my call. Jeff called me back and made it out the next morning and had it up and running in no time. This job was not a broken part, it was a bad wire underground. He did not just walk away and collect the house call fee after figuring this out. He stuck around and help me chase the bad wire down and made sure that was the problem. Jeff requested I send him an email with my address so I did. Jeff never replyed to confirm he received it, which I thought was odd. Jeff had mentioned that I should follow up with him the day prior to our appointment- so I did & asked him if he got the email. He didn't remember! So I once again confirmed our conversation/order from the previous wk, he said yup, no problem he will be there tomorrow. So,,,, I got off work early the next day and waited for him to show, finally called him 40 minutes after the appointment time to see what was up...... he forgot and was on some roof somewhere. Our AC condenser went out. Technician did a great job with diagnosing the problem, however he was dishonest about a knowing that we did not have a warranty, and the price of just replacing the condenser. We were told 1.) that our 7 yr old condenser was out of manufacturer warranty, and 2.) that there is only a few hundred dollar difference between replacing the entire unit & just the condenser, so obviously my husband took the bait & was all set to buy a $1800 unit. It wasn't until he called a few other local places that he found out that neither of it was true! Our unit WAS UNDER A 10 year manuf. warranty, and it was MUCH CHEAPER to just replace just the condenser vs. the entire $1800 unit. Buyer Beware...true salesmen, and not all are honest. read more

James, my technician, was friendly and quick to diagnose and fix my outdoor unit with parts he had with him. He was completely done in about 30 minutes! Not a great experience. Left a request on the website and was contacted promptly. Set up a time almost immediately and they were out right away. The service guy showed up in an in-marked regular car with no uniform, I wasn't even sure I should let him in. Told him the problem and he went to work. Gave me no estimate then charged me $125 after he took my burner unit off and ran it under hot water. $85 for the service cal and $40 for 20 minutes of "labor". A bit ridiculous. He quickly figured out the problem with my Air Conditioning unit, replaced a faluty part, and checked on leakage that I mentioned to him as well. They came out on Monday started the job the technician said he would be back Tuesday at 10 am to finish but didn't show up called the office at 10:41 didn't get an answer about if he was still coming. Two more hours go by still no reply call back again & still didn't get an answer finally at 3:30 received a call stating he wouldn't be back till Thursday but didn't give a time when I asked why Thursday she said he's busy the nerve, whatever happened to customer service? Varton/AFM HVAC they are my new best friends. Our AC stopped working last night (probably one of the hottest days of the year thus far). On a whim I called this company because they were local, and well quite honestly the 3 places I called prior to them either still have not returned my voicemails from 6 hours ago, OR could not come out for a week! Yes the place with 100 trucks could not get here for a week! Enough about them, lets talk about how great my experience was I called Varton/AFM HVAC and was greeted by Kevin, so nice, so kind, and so patient. Kevin and Curtis came out just a few hours later, and now my AC is working. They were both so professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and exceeded my expectations. I felt that they were very honest and upfront and they were able to quickly diagnose the issue at hand. They gave me a sticker to but on my furnace unit so that next time I have an issue with my ac or furnace I can call them...and I will be. This company has come out and repaired my central air, and has repaired/replaced whole systems for several rental properties that I manage. They have come out numerous times in the dead of winter late at night to keep pipes from freezing, and have always been speedy and competent in their repairs. Called and talked with Phil, at Varton heating and cooling. He said Varton and AFM merged a little while ago. He gave me a good low price on installing a new Tempstar furnace and said a lot of good things I wanted to hear but I was surprised he did not come to the house for the quote. Called Flame Heating and Cooling who came to my house that same day. Brian gave me slightly higher bid but it was for a Bryant furnace. I did a lot of internet research on the Tempstar brand and Bryant and they seemed to pretty similar but Bryant had a slight edge on a few things. Price influenced my decision and I decided to go with the lower bid at AFM/Varton. When I was finalizing the deal I asked Phil why permits were not mentioned or on the estimate. Phil said I did not need one when replacing a furnace. Called Canton building permits, yes I need a permit. Called Phil, who seemed surprised but said he would get the permits, and later told me I would have to pay for them, upping the price of the estimate. The day of the install I texted Phil at 1000 AM and asked why they were not here yet. Phil said the installer had to make another stop first and apologized but would not here until after 1100. Phil also said that they may not have the right adapter to the furnace today and they may have to come back with the right adapter on another day. At that point I'd had enough. When I give someone $3600 dollars I should feel good about the purchase. Called Brian at Flame Heating and Cooling 586-215-8788 back and feel much more comfortable with my decision now. Our 4-year old AC system stopped working on Tuesday just when the hot weather arrived, I called the original installer and another top rated HVAC contractor on Wednesday to schedule a service but both told me they were very busy and would be at least one week out before they could send anyone to take a look. I then called Varton AFM and was told they were very busy but would try to fit me in the next day. It was a hot day on Thursday and the house was very warm and I was very worried if they couldn't make it, but Jeff came by after 6pm and looked tired after a long day, he checked out the compressor and told me there was a leak that was probably due to the original installation, charged up the system and my AC was back to normal in less than 30 minutes. The repair cost was very reasonable. The most important thing is they seem to care about people without having working AC in 80 plus degree weather and worked very hard to help their customers. Varton AFM is incredible! My four year old A/C system quit working as the weather was just heating up. I called the company who had put the unit in four years ago and they gave me an estimate of over a week before they would even come out and look at it! I started looking online for another local AC service company and found Varton AFM. I called them and they had someone out (Kevin) at my house within two hours of the call! The prior installer had "cheaped out" the installation (as I had suspected four years ago because it never really cooled very well in the summer), so I wasn't surprised when I learned that I would need a new A/C unit because the old unit had shorted out. I chose to get a new unit instead of having warranty work done on the old unit. The new RUUD unit was installed within 48 hours. The installers from Varton AFM who came out were professional, courteous, and took pride in their work. I was impressed with how tidy and organized the installer's van was (which was a sign to me that he took pride in his work). When the installation was finished, they left the working areas outside and in the basement clean. The best part is that for the first time in four years, my house has actually really cooled down and the humidity level inside the house is down substantially. The last week of extreme temperatures put the system to the test and it has performed beautifully! Kudos to Kevin and the installation team from Varton AFM. Our furnace died on one of the coldest days of the winter (Feb 2015). No other company was available to come out.....this should have been our first clue to what we were in for. We needed a new furnace and unfortunately couldn't wait. The workers were very unprofessional and messy. They dragged our old furnace out and scratched the wood floor doing so...most reputable contractors put down rubber mats to walk on. Instead of disconnecting the air conditioning unit away from the furnace, they cut the cord and then hid what they had done. Come May when we needed to turn the air on, of course it didn't work. We needed a new air conditioner and the contractor who installed this, basically had to re-do what AFM had done so that the furnace would be level enough to install a new A-coil for the air. Horrible customer service, rude and messy workers who do hack work. Don't call this company. Seriously......look at the only 5 star review......this person is from Wisconsin?? read more
