You may have heard the word Fufu wandering around social media recently, as how- to videos for an "easy" version of this carb heavy protein rich comfort food. I say skip the make at home version, because this restaurant will make it for you for a very fair price, and with no fuss whatsoever. We ordered a range of stews along with jollof rice. I asked for everything to be mildly spiced (other than the designer stew, which is largely habanero peppers and so can not be mild!) Everything was well seasoned, freshly prepared, and filling. We ate outside with a friend and the warmth of the pepper stew helped keep us distracted from the cold. Our favorite thing was actually the meat pies. They are homemade with a sweet dough and a delicious meat and potato filling. They are also a bargain at $5 for two hand sized pies. They would make an amazing lunch on their own and were just as delicious at room temperature as they were fresh from the oven. I do have to warn you about ordering the chin chin dessert. It is delicious, and you will wish you had more once it's gone. Order it early in the weekend in case you need to run back for more by Sunday night, or you'll have to wait almost a week for the restaurant to reopen. Go get yourself some fufu! read more

Within a half day of eating a platter of jollof rice from here, I fell sick to my stomach and was sick for two and a half days. The chicken that accompanied the rice was so tough that I couldn't even bite into it. That's really all you need to know - but if you care to keep reading about my experience, it follows. I was really excited to find an African fusion restaurant nearby especially with such great reviews and I had it on my list of local restaurants to visit for weeks before I finally stopped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon. ASIAN fusion is pretty trendy right now but what is African fusion? I expected that there would be foods from at least two or three of the fifty plus countries on the continent and that I might be able to have more than one country represented on a plate. That was not the case. Instead there is a Nigerian menu and an "African American" menu Before you get excited, this is not soul food. It's just fried fast food - an insult really to the rich varied African American food culture. I was there for the African food anyway and I was expecting a buffet where I could sample unfamiliar African foods that I wouldn't risk purchasing a whole platter of. The snarky woman at the counter who ended up being the owner explained that she used to offer a buffet but it wasn't very popular so she stopped. She also told me snidely that she'd been in the restaurant business for 15 years. (...during which time she obviously hadn't learned about food safety standards given the fact that she served me spoiled food). She seemed to take offense when I said the dining room was too warm for me so I'd take it to go. "Warm?! The air conditioning is on full blast." she retorted with a derisive snort. It was 95 degrees that day and the AC was struggling. I didn't blame her for that but why she was offended by my temperature preference is beyond me. Since I wasn't going to be able to sample, I settled on the safest bet - jollof rice with chicken and fried plantain on the side. The food looked great. The plantains were good; however it's near impossible to ruin fried plantain. The rice was the worst jollof I've ever had. That could be because I'm used to the Ghanaian as opposed to the Nigerian version but there was no spiciness whatsoever. It was basically tomato-y rice. If you like Nigerian food and you happen to catch it when it's fresh, you might enjoy it. I obviously do not recommend taking that risk. read more

Passing thru town, So I decided to give this place another try. Plenty of parking outside. Location is somewhat ify, but don't let that hold you back. Walk thru the door and receive a warm welcome from the owner. The place wasn't busy at all and there was plenty of seating. There was Afro beat blasting from the corner and not much of a decor. A little too dark room for my liking. However, it looks clean and feel well kept. So I relaxed and ordered me-self White Rice and Beans and side of plantain. Spicy level is mild but can be tailored to your taste. Be sure to let the owner know. Ordering was easy from the menu and don't be afraid to ask questions and try something new. You never know what your new favorite might be. The Food came out in no time, about 15min and it was blazing hot and oozing with the aroma of different blend of spices and flavors. The white rice and beans came out just fine, meat was deliciously chewy and flavorful. The plantain was ripped enough and sweet, just the way you would expect. Food portion was filling and price was reasonable. This place has potential and does serve the community well for its location. It can use more fresher ingredients and daily prepared meal to keep the flavors more authentic. Keep the microwave out of the kitchen. Add more lighting to the dining area and open up the big window for more natural light. The outside entrance can be more inviting and welcoming. I suspect a lot customers only do takeout and not enough dine-in. I appreciate a small business like this that tries to offer that authentic west African cuisine we so much love, we need more of it. It does takes a lot of love to run an eatery like this, and I can sense it from the owner. But it will take more support from our own people to see this place succeed. If you are a true foodie, this place will definitely satisfy. I Will definitely be back for my favorites, and hope that you would too. read more

I have tried multiple menu options from African Fusion on different occassions, and all are fantastic! This restaurant is in a quaint area; and the food speaks for itself. I am a fan of the designer stew especially, but the meat pies, jollof rice, and other menu options have not disappointed. Reminds me of home cooked Nigerian food. Interesting ambiance with an opportunity to experience a trip back home. Between the laurels of the upgraded stew, via the skies of the well-done goat meat and through the wide doors of Jollof rice, I experienced a brief trip home. I was left wanting more. I moved to New Jersey from NC and spent a year missing soul food until I found African Fusion and realized that I didn't have to miss it anymore. This was my first experience with African food, but the owner was friendly and walked me through the menu and helped me find what I wanted.The tripe, beef, and plantains were good, and the jollof rice was great.
