I wanted to give 3 1/2 stars but I guess I'm not able to do that. It would have been four stars except that the mac & cheese and cabbage had little to no seasoning at all and you could tell really just by looking at it. The preparation of it was good, in that the noodles weren't mushy and the cabbage was not overcooked, however, the flavor was lacking. Oxtails were good, Black Eyed Peas were good, white rice, Stewed goat, and spinach were all good, very flavorful, and had just the right spice profile. My three star rating is because I found a rather long black hair with the root still attached in my stewed goat. So disappointing in what would have otherwise been a decent meal! I knew my daughter was at the Curb Market so I asked her to bring me something to eat. She decided to stop at this place and pick me up some oxtails. The platter was oxtails rice and peas and cabbage. Although I've had a lot of oxtail planters in Atlanta this one was different. The taste of the oxtails, the gravy, the peas and the cabbage were totally on point. The oxtails were tender but not overcooked. The flavor was very good. I have to say the rice and peas were completely cooked but not mushy. Many times when you get these platters either the rice is crunchy or the peas are crunchy. The only thing I would have wanted is more gravy. They definitely had a good flavor. Finally someone knows how to cook cabbage. Either is too much or has no flavor in other places. This place cooked it just right. I don't know how much the planter calls exactly but I think my daughter said around $13. This price is kind of unheard of right now in Atlanta. Inflation has got the best of the food in the street and we as patrons understand but it's always nice to see a business kind of work with their customers. Escovich fish was awful. It was a large piece of unseasoned fried croaker. The person serving the dish had the nerve to ask if I wanted the onions and peppers. He could have packed the fish and its topping separately instead of pouring it all over my rice, cabbage and plantains. None of it was on the fish. The jerk chicken was fair. Afrodish sits at one of the corners in the Municipal Market near the food court and seating area. I ordered the Oxtail + 1 Side and picked the jollof rice ($12) and added a beef patty ($2). The oxtail was super tender .. pretty much melted in your mouth once you got it off the bone. It was seasoned very well and not too oily, which I loved. The jollof rice was also great - I could've scarfed it down alone. These two paired super well together to make a super flavorful meal. The beef patty was ... just amazing. Very unassuming from the outside (looks kind of like a wider empanada) but the beef filling was very flavorful, not very greasy, and just easy to eat. A fantastic side or snack to take on the road and only $2! The man serving us was super nice and gave pretty decently sized portions - I was definitely full. Overall, super tasty Caribbean food that was pretty authentic from what I could tell. Pretty good prices (check out their combos) and just amazing flavors I think anyone would love. So happy I found this gem at the Sweet Auburn market. This will appeal to any West Indian and African inspired dishes you may be craving. For just $8 each meal come with a protein, choice of rice(jollof, white or stir fried) and two sides. They are also generous with their portions. This is definitely enough food for two or your next meal of the day! I ordered the jerk chicken, dark meat, with jollof rice, plantains, and black eyed peas. Everything was perfect! Quick, yummy, and hearty! I stopped by Municipal Market (where this place is located) while going apartment hunting and my friends and I walked around before deciding on Afrodish. The portions looked filling (they were!) and prices seemed reasonable (very much so!). I also saw on their site that the owners are a couple who immigrated from Ghana which I thought was a great sign for the authenticity of this Afro-Caribbean cuisine. Here's a rundown on what we got: 1. Patty - I forgot what filling was in it (maybe curry?), but it tasted fresh and packed with flavor! It was only a couple of dollars too, which made for a great side/app. 2. Dark Jerk Chicken - delicious and spiced! The meat was tender and portion was large. My friend got this with rice and beans, which was also delicious and filling. 3. White Curry Chicken - HUGE chicken pieces with a creamy sauce that they poured on my friend's Cajun rice. The Cajun rice was a little spicy. 4. Escovitch Fish - this fish was made to order (took 10 minutes) and I got it because I've never tried fish cooked this way. I liked it! They give you the entire fish, bones and all, topped with peppers. I thought the skin could have been crispier but overall it tasted fine and really challenged my bone-picking skills (haha!). I don't think I would get it again just because every time I thought I got all the bones, I would feel another one in my mouth which made it a small hassle to eat, but I think it was definitely worth it for the price (~$10 for the fish combo). 5. All of us got the same sides: Mac n cheese and plantains. I thought the mac n cheese was a little too salty for my taste (to the point where I had to eat it with my rice), but the plantains were phenomenally oily and chewy on the inside (while being a little crispy on the outside). I absolutely love plantains. The other sides were spinach, mixed vegetables, beans, and the like. Decreasing my rating from 5 to 4 only because I feel the goat was very less had more bones than meat. The curry was great but got completely absorbed by the rice. This was one of the best meals I've eaten in a long time. I ordered the jerk chicken (white meat) over beans in rice with a side of baked beans, and plantains. The chicken was deliciously spicy and just fell off the bone so easily. The sauce it was in was a delicious gravy for the rice below. I'm not a huge fan of beans but these I really enjoyed. The plantains were good too. I walked all around this market trying to decide where to have lunch and asked the security guard recommended this particular vendor and I am so glad I ate here. Afrodish is my go-to spot in Sweet Auburn Market. I am often in a time crunch for lunch, so I appreciate the quick service and relatively short line here relative to other market options. The portions offered are hearty, and the price ($8-12 for a good amount of meat, rice, and two sides) is fair given the quantity of food. Most importantly, the food tastes fresh delicious despite the buffet line setup. I always get the spicy goat which yields an ample portion of meltingly tender meat swimming in a thick, piquant gravy. The almost creamy rice and peas pair better with this dish than the more flavorful but somewhat salty seasoned rice. In regards to side dishes, you cannot go wrong with the well-seasoned spinach, perfectly sweet plantains, or the creamy black eyed peas. While not as popular as some of the other stalls, Afrodish won't disappoint if you're a fan of spicy food or pan African cuisine. read more

The jerk and spinach had a nice spicy kick to it and had me reaching for an extra glass of water which is just the way I like it. The portion was filling and priced under $10. I was really, really looking forward to this place as it reminded me of Kelly's Jamaican Food in Athens, GA. I ordered the jerk chicken entree, with white meat ($.50 extra charge). While the jerk chicken was moist, the flavor lacked in caribbean spicy-ness and that zing you get when eating traditional jerk chicken. Meh. For the side items, I ordered the rice/beans, spinach, and veggies. The spinach wasn't my cup of tea (as another reviewer said---it was definitely canned and had that funky canned taste to it). The rice/beans were probably my favorite...the veggies tasted like, well, veggies coated with a little too much grease. For $7, the portions really are HUGE. The prices are reasonable, the oxtail plate was only $11.39, normally oxtails are round $16-20. The portion size was good as well. The oxtails weren't bad but they weren't great either. I've had way better oxtails before. The spinach and cabbage was pretty good. I think If I do decide to go back I'll probably try something else. read more

I didn't even order here but my bf did - he got an oxtail, spinach and plantain platter that 8 mooched off of. Lets talk about this spinach, it was.so friggin good i wanted to order it separately (but they wouldn't let me. Womp) - idk what they put in there to make it so magical! I think they definitely use palm oil (bc that makes everything better) but thay's as far as I got. I would commit crimes to get them to open up a spot by me. Plantains- These made me rekindle my love for the once despised faux banana, they had just the right amount of sweet. Rice and beans- Standard fare...
