Liver with onions and a garlic mash
    Stu F.

First Time here after asking on the local FB page for places serving liver and onions. The location is right on the river channel and had great views of boaters passing on by along with places to tie up if boating. The service was very good, and they also serve daily specials. Thursday are ribs. Both my wife and I had the liver with onions. It was juicy yet mild in flavor. Just what one would look for in a liver dinner. It was served with nicely browned onions(could have used more even with the request of extra onions at time of order). Our choice of potato was garlic mashed. We also had salads which were a blend of leaf with other veggies. No homemade dressings and the ranch was nothing special. I also started off with a bowl of chicken and wild rice soup. It was excellent. Only 20 minutes from the house and we will return. Most likely for the liver.

The positives: on the river, easy parking, staff friendly, some of the food tasty, reasonably priced! The negatives: a bit tired looking and the coleslaw was marginal at best. Just a thought, get a broom and sweep away the spiders and webs on the deck.

Great views and atmosphere. Usually grab a Sandwich at the bar. Cold beer, boat piers. Rustic! One of our favs!

We've been driving back-and-forth and we saw the building being beautifully rehabbed a year ago and…read morefinally it opened and we always wanted to give it a shot "sometime". We have heard mixed reviews, but not in the positive sense but we still wanted to give it a try because we like to keep the money local if possible. We always attempt to support our local restaurants and businesses nearby first beforehand. That "sometime" became today, and it was full of regret. The first thing we noticed is that the outside lamps were really dirty. Full of cobwebs... I mean Really dirty- and for a building in that new of a condition? That should have been a clue, but we decided to still give the courthouse a try. We had the margarita flatbread, which was OK and two Arnold Palmer's. After that, it all went downhill from there. We were given dirty napkins to eat with: yes it had food chunks & stains caked on it from the previous user we'd assume: Disgusting... But we didn't complain. Why? Because we thought it was a fluke... (dismiss- for now) The place was not busy at all. There was only one table other than us occupied, and three people sitting together at the bar and Abigail served us, but after the flatbread was served by the runner, she never checked on anything else (only asked if we were ready to order- okay -another pass) We noticed in between times) She was more interested being on her phone than the patrons who "could pay her way", and we waited for 40 minutes after our order had been placed to have something else to eat. Yes. It took that long: I ordered the steak burger (medium)and my wife ordered the 5 hot wings and we waited. And waited. No "pulse check"... we sat there waiting. On a Sunday.... We finally noticed that Abigail finally went back.... and then brought out our food, which was by that time: cold. We believe she knew it was out there, and yet she still served us. (Huge problem) My steak burger I asked for was overcooked and grey looking. It was under like warm. The cheese had dried under the heat lamp, so it is of our opinion the staff & Abigail forgot our order and let it sit out for at least 10 to 15 minutes under the heat lamp in the back. When it came out, the fries were overcooked and again... they must have been sitting there for over 10 min or so..., and it was such a disappointing cold mess. And yet: After seeing this mistake, she still served us thinking we'd still eat it? We stated we didn't want the order anymore, (pointed out the issues) and instead of asking to maybe comp the flatbread (refire our meals again)or something like that (she could see we were not happy)or apologize for the mistake, she just told us that she just took off the burger and the hot wings and rang us up like nothing happened and it was our fault. It is our opinion that She did NOT care at all about the situation. As if we were bothering her to do her job that we came to visit to help inject money into the local business. She was totally disconnected, and in fact, she had taken a check from the table near us, and she had forgot to ring his check up. So he too, was waiting for about 10 to 15 minutes with his son at the table, before she finally realized that she still had his credit card and hadn't ran it to be processed or debited.... We really want to give this place a nice try, but after this, we won't be back. Such a bad experience for a local business near us. What a disappointment.

0/5 Stars I cannot…read moreemphasize this enough: STAY AWAY from the bar side of this building. While the hardworking people on the breakfast diner side are actually doing their jobs, being professional, the food tasted amazing. The bar is a complete and utter disaster run by people who clearly hate their customers. The "service" if you can even call it that is a complete joke. The bartender, Marella, is quite literally the most unpleasant person I've ever encountered in the service industry. She is rude, dismissive, and puts on this fake, plastic persona that's transparent to everyone with a brain. She treats patrons like an inconvenience for simply existing and ordering a drink. It's honestly impressive how someone so miserable can keep a job in a public facing role. The management also contributes to the unwelcoming atmosphere. There is a palpable sense of elitism that makes regular patrons feel unwelcome. It often feels as though the establishment is run for a specific inner circle rather than the general public, leaving everyone else feeling like an outsider in what should be a community space. The quality of the offerings does not justify the high prices. Drinks often lack the proper proportions, and the overall value is poor compared to other establishments in McHenry. The contrast between the bar and the professional service found on the diner side is stark while the diner staff works hard to provide a positive experience, the bar side lacks that same commitment to customer satisfaction. The physical environment of the bar has also seen better days. Between the outdated decor and the general lack of upkeep, the space feels neglected. For anyone looking for a friendly environment with fair prices and professional service, looking elsewhere would be a better use of time and money. It is disappointing to see such a divide in quality within the same building.

We walked in on a lazy Sunday post the lunch rush, around 2. I forget what burger I got, but it did not disappoint. Everyone who has said I need to check it out was tight. It was very good. The burger was flavorful and juicy. The toppings were fresh and the fries were tasty. Everything was great! I returned with my burger club and most guys liked it however, some got the burgers that had so much going on that your taste buds are in over drive. Just stick with a build your own burger and avoid all the crazy toppings and you'll love it.

We were in the area strawberry picking and wanted to find a local place for lunch. Based on Google…read morereviews, we chose DC Cobb's. I'm glad we didn't skip this place based on the Yelp reviews. The restaurant is in the heart of downtown McHenry and next to the river. I highly recommend sitting in the enclosed patio. It's spacious, full of tvs, and has a nice view of the river. You can tell based on the menu and confirmed by our server, burgers are their thing. All kinds including beef, bison, chicken, turkey, veggie and fish, some choices are an up charge. The burgers come with a side, some have an up charge. Our server mentioned everything is made in-house. I feel it's a rarity of restaurants to made their food in-house so it made me excited for the food. Everything is reasonably price. I opted for the BFM burger and pickle chips ($2 up charge). The burger was juicy and well cooked. Their burgers are 1/2 lbs so it was big. The pickle chips were crunchy and really good. Portion was huge and worth the up charge. My lunch partner chose Cajun fries and they were crispy and flavorful. Our server was great! She was so nice! One negative, they allow dogs and many people brought their dogs. Since the space is enclosed, I did not like all the dogs while I was eating. It was tricky leaving since the hostess stand is located in the tight entrance and there was a dog right in the doorway. My lunch companion is deathly allergic to dogs. Luckily this dog owner was considerate and moved their dog so we could pass. Other than all the dogs, we enjoyed our meal and would come again.

Date of visit: December 13, 2025…read more I love a good Mexican place, and as much as I enjoy Carlos's, it is good to have other options for when I go to visit my friend in the McHenry/Spring Grove area. The restaurant is very large with a variety of seating options including some interesting swings. I say interesting because it's really more of a novelty than anything; honestly, do you really want to have a seat that moves while you're eating chips with salsa? The menu is interesting, with a heavy focus on birria (think brisket, if you're unfamiliar) including in a dipped/fried taco as well as a grilled cheese sandwich, which is what I went with. While the meat in the sandwich was good, there was very little cheese to speak of, and that should be an important component of a grilled...cheese. However the chips and salsa were excellent, with some of the best chips I've had in quite some time, they really taste like more. In terms of the salsa, they are not lying with the "Diablo" in their name. If you are not a fan of spicy, stay away from the salsas as even the mild is fairly potent after a few chips. Also note that sour cream is available but doesn't tend to come WITH things by default, so be prepared to ask for that if it's a key part of your Mexican meals. Also disappointing, the tacos come with raw onions on top. This isn't mentioned on the menu, and was a very unwelcome addition to the dish. Service was a bit of a mixed bag; Jasmine was nice and attentive but struggled on some aspects, including telling us what the three salsas were when she brought them to the table, and saying that birria was a "biscuit," which thoroughly confused us. She asked if we wanted more chips and we declined, but then she brought more anyways.
