Cakes and pies are good but the prices have been raised significantly. I've been a patron here since the original owner opened the bakery and have always loved their cakes, pies, cookies, etc. For those craving a bit of birthday cake but want a personal size, they sale a little 3x4 inch birthday cake. The price has tripled since I started buying it. It's $15 now, which is crazy. The regular standard size birthday cake is expensive and comes with zero decor. You're charged for adding any decor and charged again for writing Happy Birthday. My friend said a standard sheet cake was going to be nearly $70. I know grocery prices have gone up but the price of cane sugar and flour are still reasonable. I have been enjoying their sweet treats for 35 to 40 years but, I can't bring myself to pay that for a kids birthday cake. Or for an adult. And the little 3x4 squares are good, but at that price point..... They have pretty much priced themselves out of a longtime customer. Believe it or not this bakery has been in continuous operation by the same family since 1961! I'm not kidding, when I tell you, this was the best gingerbread cookie I have ever eaten in my entire life, you need to understand how serious this is to me. Same recipe since the 60s! A hop skip and a jump from the courthouse in downtown Cartersville, you are going to feel like you just stepped back in time. Friendly family staff have been working there for years and are ready to answer any questions you have about ingredients or possible allergies. And who did I see decorating the cookies? Abbey herself. Her husband was helpful too. The first thing you'll notice, though, is the alluring smell pastries; everything is fresh baked every morning. Cute place in a busy little Town. Wife purchased a lemon custard pie, sweet roll and a cookie. The pie was good. Had not had anything like this before, a custard with a lemon fill on top. The crust was good, not dry or over cooked. As for the sweet roll, nothing to write home about. The only thing saving this was lots of icing, roll was dry. Wow... what a complete shit show this place is! My friend placed an order for her engagement party; she wanted engagement ring cookies, cupcakes, and donuts. First off, when she called to place the order, she spoke with Susie, and let me tell you, this girl had a straight up attitude. Not a great start to the experience. My friend was placing the order and Susie couldn't give her a total. How someone can't give a total for an order being placed in advance is crazy! Must not have standardized pricing in 2021! Then, my friend requested gold accents on the cookies. Susie said that was possible. My friend calls back at a later date to try to nail down the price. She's informed they can't do gold all of the sudden, only yellow. I can find gold in Michael/Hobby Lobby... but an established bakery can't find gold, despite them saying they could?!? My friend calls back the day before her order and there are still issues. Susie is rude, yet again. Let's not forget, people are paying this bakery for a service and they are treating customers like crap. Day of the event, we pick up the order. Honestly, I don't even know WHAT was paid for!!! The "engagement ring" cookies look like a toddler made and decorated them. A bakery that is supposed to be so great and is CHARGING customers for their goods and their product looks like a child made it. Completely unacceptable! Besides the rude treatment, their product looks like crap. In a time where small businesses are suffering due to other circumstances, it's shocking to see this place is still even in business. We ordered cookies for our daughters birthday day a week in advanced, the employee who took the order was nice, the day before the party they called and said they wouldn't be making our order because it's Christmas time and they don't take custom orders around the holidays and that the employee that took the order should have told us that. The manager explaining this was very rude and refused to work with us and told us we were on our own. We will not be trusting this store any longer. read more

We were on a drive today and noticed the bakery. In fact, we turned around so that we could stop and check the place out. From the outside, it looked like the shelves were empty and I'd said that maybe they were closing. My better half said we should still check it out. And am I ever glad that we did. The shelves were not empty. They were completely stocked with a variety of items. From pies, to cupcakes to cookies and more. I'm sorry the Cinnamon Rolls were sold out because I'm betting they were awesome. Regardless, we purchased a variety of everything. I have to tell you, everything that we've sampled has been delicious. I mean delicious to the point that you just take a bite and say this is incredible. We're both originally (many years ago) from the Midwest. A place where bakeries like this are common. It was so refreshing to see and to find this location and to find that they use all natural ingredients and that it's not a some storm of processed chemical flavors. If you're looking for a bakery ... a real bakery ... not a grocery store bakery ... this is it. And it's worth the drive. Now let me tell you about the service ... It was absolutely top notch. We were really unsure about what we wanted, at first. But we were provided all the information that we needed to make informed decisions. I'm surprised this place is not talked about more often. I stumbled upon this bakery by chance while in Cartersville last week. There was a line, but now i know why. It is incredible and well worth the wait! The workers were very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Georgie Porgie Pie and it was much bigger than I expected. I also got the banana nut bread because why not and it was delicious too. I forgot to take some photos because I was too busy stuffing the goodies in my mouth but I would definitely recommend this bakery! Two thumbs up for sure! read more

Stopped in on Friday to pick up a German Choc cake and lemon custard pie for my sister and her family. The German Choc cake did not taste good. My sister and I were in agreement something was off in the flavor. Tasted like the icing was just a stick of butter with pecans and coconut. The lemon custard pie had a great flavor but it was so thin and the custard never set even after sitting in the fridge. It was kept in the fridge. Not sure what the hoopla is about this place. The lady working there was extremely nice. Very friendly and helpful. Maybe I just got an off cake and pie. That can happen. My friend asked them to make cookies in a dog shape... they said they couldn't do that and that it was too complex. It's too expensive for what they're selling. A professional bakery shouldn't have drippy icing on their cookies.. but that's what happens nearly every time I've had a sugar cookie from there. I don't know about the cakes, so I can't judge them from that. This is solely based on the cookies which is their most popular thing. They taste good, but so do cookies you can get from ingles. He is a retired Football Coach and we wanted to do something special. Every time we were talking to the guy at this location (Agan's) trying to explain what we wanted he interrupted, tell us it couldn't be done or even insulted at one time saying Can you afford it if we go to that extreme. WOW Really one yes we can afford it and two when a customer calls don't constantly interrupt them when they are trying to explain what they want. This is a great little bakery. I tried a cinnamon roll with raisins. It was great. I'm wishing I had one right now. I also took home a s'mores cookie, oatmeal raisin cookie and peanut butter cookie... all were yummy. I will stop here again next time I'm in Cartersville. read more

Let me start by saying that we really enjoy the baked goods at Agans. The cookies, and oh my goodness the rolls. Unfortunately however we are done playing the Thanksgiving game of trying to get rolls for dinner. The last two years we have phoned two days before to place an order only to arrive on Wed to find nothing was set aside for us. We've either had to come back after 4 o'clock to "see what was available" or someone was able to get me some anyway. This year we skipped calling since we've learned that it didn't seem to matter anyway to be told to once again try back after 4 and there was no way they could allow me to place and pay for an order to insure the return trip was worth it. I'm done with the Mickey Mouse reservation system here. We will be getting our holiday goods from a place in Marietta from now on. What you phone ahead for there is always ready and waiting for you when you arrive. read more

My wife and I happened on Agan's Bakery after we had lunch in Cartersville at Swheat's Organic restaurant just down the street. This bakery is awesome. Just a good old time bakery. Their signature cookie is a pecan sandye with a dollop of milk chocolate in the center. The cookie itself is tasty and with the chocolate...just about perfection. We tasted other cookies like wedding cookies and chocolate chip, all were fantastic. The staff is pleasant and willing to explain ingredients, etc. For those who live in the Atlanta area and love Rhodes Bakery, you will find that Agan's may even surpass them. If you visit the Booth Museum, then make sure to have lunch at Swheat's Organic restaurant (healthy) and then head over to Agan's (it's ok...you ate a healthy lunch). read more

Agan's is an old school family bakery that sometimes runs out of things, but they always have something fresh coming out of the oven. Ordered a cake for my twins birthday party on December 3rd 2019 to be ready for pick up on the 21st at 9 am. Got a call from them at 7:48 PM the 20th but was working so I was unable to answer or listen to the voicemail that was left so I listened to it the morning of the 21st at 7 am they were calling because my cake order wouldn't be ready at the stated time and they wanted me to pick it up at noon at the earliest. That was not going to work as my reservation was clear out in kennesaw at 12:30 and with traffic I needed the cake before noon so I call them to see if I could get it at 11:45 instead and the guy I talked with couldn't guarantee it would be done as the owner decorates the cake and they were not in yet because they made their own schedule, I told him ok I would call back later to try to speak with the owner. Called multiple times, no answer so decided to pack my kids up and drive down there, we get there at 11:am and my husband goes in and the owner STILL wasn't there so my cake wasn't ready. We then left to go grab a guest for the party and come back and it's 11:50 am and the cake was due in 10 minutes and the owner wasn't there AGAIN. the employees triede calling and texting them but must of got no answer so one of the other gals who CAN'T decorate cakes was throwing the frosting in a bowl to mix it up so she could attempt what I asked for so I asked to prepay as I was now late for leaving and would have someone else stop by and pick up the cake for us. They get the cake out to us and when we opened the box I was extremely disappointed with what I saw, it was NOTHING like I had asked for which was a simple big pink two that covered the cake with polka dots in it as it was a minnie mouse themed party. The handwriting was big and boxy and took over the whole cake with this itty bitty pink 2 with some stars in it then when we cut into the cake we found out it lacked the chocolate filling I had asked to be put in so it was just a marble cake. I didn't even eat it. While they gave me the price for the smaller cake, I'm very disheartened by the lack of customer service and the way this cake turned out and the fact that the owner couldn't even be bothered to come in to work. I wouldn't reccomend ordering a cake from here and would be better off going to Walmart or publix. Such a bummer as everyone recommended this place to me. read more

The first time my husband and I went in just to see what they had..... We ordered a couple of cupcakes which not bad.... Really good actually. So we decided to order a key lime pie for the holidays and more cupcakes, we go to pick them up.... And oh my gosh..... So unorganized!!!! Some folks were getting their orders and some were told to come back later to see if we're ready, ( even though they were told to pick up after a certain time they still weren't getting it done by that time) so after a 30 minute wait we finally got our stuff, ( oh and by the way they don't have prices on anything). It was good, so I decided to purchase a pie and a few cupcakes for my husbands birthday. A key lime pie since the first one was really good. Brought it home, and we were soooooooo disappointed. It was a key lime pie BUT it barely tasted like it, it was like they just used the very bare minimum of key lime. Cupcakes were dry, we were disappointed. The staff were not as friendly as they were the first time we were there, not sure what the difference was but it wasn't the same. We will probably find another bakery. read more

I love Agan's... or used to love Agan's. I have ordered iced sugar cookies from them for every one of my child's birthdays. BUT since they have changed ownership it is like pulling teeth to get anyone to answer the phone and when you do they are difficult to work with. Not only that but the cookies I received this year were covered in sticky icing. They were not dry and were placed on top of each other, it was a real mess. Not to mention they looked sloppy and gross compared to what I have gotten in the past. Their cookies, cakes, etc. are great if you are not trying to place a custom order. Others in my family have had similar experiences so I know it's not just me. My cousin wanted them to do her wedding cake and they waited to be acknowledged and helped and never were so they left and got their cake elsewhere. They are quickly getting a local reputation for being difficult and often rude to customers. I hope they can make some positive changes because I grew up on Agan's cookies and I would hate to see them lose their local customers. read more

Stumbled across Agan's Bakery about 7 years ago when my husband and I camped at Red Top Mountain. Now we have to stop every year and get our standing order of angel cookies, chocolate drops and some kinda fall decorated sugar cookie. I am especially fond of the Gingerbread men and women. Soft and spicy cookies that are just the best. My husbands favorite is the éclair that's the size of his head. Customer Service is very good and they all seem busy but helpful. I cannot wait to try the Annual fruitcakes this year. Not done that before and I have heard stories of the legendary Thanksgiving Rolls. Thank y'all for another great sugar high, guys.
