When…read moreI was trying to have my insurance be billed to for a pair of glasses for my spouse, I was told that I would need to pay full price for the glasses before getting reimbursed directly through my insurance. After questioning this and getting reassurance from the salesman behind the counter I had some reservations with going through with the transaction. This seemed very fishy to me at the time (this was over 7 months ago) but we were in a hurry and I agreed to go ahead with the transaction against my better judgement. I was told by the gentleman behind the counter to wait a few weeks and to contact them if I never heard anything from my insurance. As expected I never received my reimbursement check from my insurance company, and I contacted Main Optical several times, once to twice a month to try to seek some resolution and received the same vague answer of they would contact my insurance company and give me a call back. This went on for nearly seven months, ( I gave them plenty of time to correct any issues) until I showed up to the business the other day. The same guy that took my money told me that they were out of network back when they billed the insurance back in October (about 7 months ago)! I was never told about this, I was just given the runaround. After telling him this he played dumb acting like he had no idea and just told me to contact the insurance company. So this guy took my money knowing that my insurance wouldn't pay and told me the insurance would reimburse me afterwards. Then after months of inquiry he just brushed me off and never gave me a straight answer until I came back to the business in person; even afterwards he played dumb acting like he had no idea about what was going on when confronted. If that isn't sheisty and a terrible way to treat a customer then I don't know what is. Needless to say I will never use this business again and I would advise anyone using insurance to reconsider using this place for your glasses.

The eye exam I had with Dr. Berzins couldn't have been more thorough. She was very informative and cared about my comfort, rather than just getting through "another eye exam" like most optometrists. I was distressed when I returned to the Park Slope store in January 2023 only to find it had closed. I tried to locate someone from the store but failed to locate anyone. My eyeglasses had shattered internally, and the visible cracks on both lenses were long and distracting. I'd never had a pair do this. I had always been treated with great customer care, and I now felt abandoned! I almost called the Better Business Bureau, but held off as I like to give the benefit of the doubt. Another local optometrist thought the lenses were plastic and not polycarbonate. That was impossible I thought! Needless to say, as I was about to spend another several hundred dollars at a new store, a new associate recognized me and told me Sam had to close due to higher rents! I never found their goodbye email! Well, Sam and I reconnected! He drove from Queens to my home in the Slope. He took my glasses personally to the Lab, replaced the lenses for free--I was just shy of the warranty--and hand-delivered them before he left on a month-long vacation with his family in Asia!!!
