I called prior and booked the "Chef's Table / Chef's Blind Tasting Experience" at this restaurant for our 39th Wedding Anniversary. It sounded terrific on the phone.... "Meet the Chef" he'll "prepare some dishes for you at the Chef's table" and it's a very "intimate experience with the Chef preparing a four course dinner specifically for you." The reality is this: We were placed at a regular table on the side just like everyone else. Never met the chef. The Sous Chef / Waiter came out to deliver the courses to us and even said he "didn't even know what the chef was going to prepare" for us. Although he did a great job explaining what each course was, each and every course (which was straight off the normal menu) was lackluster and had their individual problems. We started with a "bread course," a piece of white sourdough bread with a pat a butter. Then on to the four courses: Course 1: I had the Artichoke Paella which was mushy, bland, lukewarm and burnt, the arborio rice itself was mushy but had a hard center indicating it being undercooked. My wife had the Braised Peanuts which she enjoyed and to be honest was quite creative. Course 2: We both had the Vegetable Tajine which was bland with uneven cuts of harissa speckled throughout and once again lukewarm. Course 3: I had the Impossible Meat Harrisa Meatballs. The meatballs themselves were dry but complimented by the mushy coconut risotto, and the portion size was quite small. My wife had the Cauliflower Kiev which she told me later was very greasy, the flaxseed crust felt like a phlegm paste on her teeth, and the bits of sun dried tomatoes tasted like they were taken straight from the jar and sliced too large to be appetizing. Then came our last course - Course 4: We both were given the Raw Chocolate Tartufo, which looked wonderful but was rock hard like a piece of frozen ice. Even after 10 minutes it was still almost impossible to cut into (I used a steak knife that was left on the table to attempt to do so as the only implement given was a small dessert spoon - see video). We even mentioned to the waitress about the frozen dessert, asking how to cut into it, she mentioned that it would have been better "from the fridge and not the freezer." The waitress offered to give us something else for dessert but we declined as by then it was quite apparent that the "Chef's table experience" was not what was promised. The waitress also offered to box up my wife's uneaten portion of Cauliflower Kiev but we declined as it was not enjoyable at all. To be quite factual, this restaurant should rename the "Chef's Table / Chef's Blind Tasting Experience" as the "Sous Chef or Waiter Blind you'll just get whatever we want to give you off the menu Experience" as everything we received were just smaller portions of what was already on their normal menu. There was no "meeting the Chef" although we did see him in the distance chatting to other people up at the bar. We noticed another couple near us also having the "Chef's table experience" at another normal table from the same Sous Chef / Waiter while the Chef remained up at the bar. Summary of our experience: This was not a "Chef's Table Experience." No effort beyond the normal menu was given by this restaurant. The base price per experience ($75 a head, not including drinks or water) is over priced to say the least. Showcasing an "Impossible Meat Meatball" as their "vegan creation" is unremarkable, unimaginative and pedestian. The Chef made NO EFFORT whatsoever to great us, interact with us or ascertain if we enjoyed any or all of the courses. The Sous Chef (presumably as his "stand in") did nothing more than what a waiter would do - bring out the dish and say what it was, then leave. All in all, this entire experience was wholeheartedly a DISAPPOINTMENT. I will also leave this review on Yelp, Happy Cow, VegNews and the Pensacola Vegan Chef Challenge (which I'm surprised they are a part of); AND, I will tell everyone I speak to about our experience and recommend that they take their business elsewhere. read more

I've been to this restaurant twice. First time it was really good. The service, the food and atmosphere. So my friend booked a table for 6 to celebrate my birthday recently. We were sat inside. The temperature was almost 90° inside. When we asked if the AC was out we were told no, it was working. If it was then it certainly wasn't working. They had a placed a stand fan to help circulate the air, however it was about 2 feet from my head and the constant blowing of my hair in my face, dust/debris, and noise of a big fan made the entire experience awful. Then when the bills arrived they added 20% gratuity automatically. For 6 people? Our cumulative bill was around $450. Sadly, we may have been more inclined to tip more, as our server did an excellent job in high heat, but at the end we were heat fatigued, I was wind whipped and we just wanted to leave. Sadly, I won't be returning. If you plan on going, call ahead first and see if the AC is actually cooling. read more

They brought us our own bottle of chilled water that I think came from Alaska overnight express mail. He is over here tipsy like T-Pain bought him a draaaannnk. First time visit. We didn't have reservations and there wasn't seating available inside so we sat outside. No biggy, they had heaters and hot coffee. :) The crab cakes benedict was delicious! The salad on the side was tasty too. My partner ordered eggs over medium, but they came out over-easy - still tasted great, still satisfying. Bacon and potatoes he had as a side were well prepared. Our server was super sweet and attentive, checking on us often. Only suggestion is to the host. When you present the option for sitting outside, it shouldn't come off as a consequence or punishment for not making reservations. A smile and eye contact can go a long way. OMG had a reservation for 10 people this was a birthday party. Nice looking room we were in but at a venue with tablecloths you'd think they would have air conditioning. Room was uncomfortably stuffy and hot. Our waiter shows up with a tiny scratch pad he saved from kindergarten, a place like this not operating with point of sale technology. Well fine let's order some drinks first order was for a appleteenie waiter informed us they don't do flavored drinks, is this not a restaurant with a liquor license, should hire a bartender. Finally my turn so to make it easy I asked for a Stella, was informed they had Bud Light, ok now I'm starting to lose it. In what world does a gay beer replace a Stella. Ordered some appetizers, one was an artichoke dip with pita bread, we got think crusty I don't know what, tried the dip.....inedible. That was it for me should have just crossed the street to Calverts they have a bartender and food that is edible and quite flavorful. Came in last week with family in from out of town and some friends. We had a 7:30pm reservation for Saturday night and were seated promptly. Our server was very nice and had great recommendations. My husband and I ordered the bread for the table which was so delicious. We had half baguette half sourdough. The sourdough was my personal favorite and it came with three different condiments to dip or shmear on your bread. The entrees were the star of the show. I had the June special with the Seared Snapped, it came with a garlic sauce and a tomato caper relish. This was hands down the best fish entree I have had in years! The flavors were incredible and the fish was cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the Gulf Scamp Cervantes which was always top notch. I wish we had room for dessert or I would have gone for their crème brulé flight... The inside of the restaurant is on the small side so I highly recommend getting a reservation. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. You got to go and experience it. Fine dining at its finest. We had a large group for a grad dinner with a mix of vegans, omnivores, and picky eaters and they had delicious food for everyone. Our hostess and waitress were delightful and we got an opportunity to thank the chef on our way out. On top of an already perfect night and dinner, the restaurant itself is very cozy with beautiful lighting and decor. Highly recommend the vegan charcuterie board and vegan "chicken" parmesan. We made brunch reservations for my husband's birthday and had a pretty good time. Service was great, and the bottomless mimosas were definitely bottomless. I didn't care for the food much, and was pretty annoyed that the ingredients listed on certain items were replaced with a cheap alternative. $16 for the deviled eggs when the caviar is actually capers and the duck confit is actually a sauce and piece of pickle, is an actual scam. The rib sandwich had only enough meat for about half the bread. The arancini was delicious, though. It was pretty frustrating with how tightly packed the tables are, and people were constantly mushing into our chairs, trying to get by. All in all, food is overpriced and a gamble, but drinks and service will have me come back maybe. read more

Some of the bar "staff" were obviously looking at our table, far too much . We were a table of 4 senior ladies. My biggest complaint is that the chairs were terribly uncomfortable, two of us have back issues and couldn't wait to leave. Agapi means love and you can taste it in every bite. Gus is a fantastic chef! He Brussels sprouts are my favorite in town. Anyway that the prepare octopus is a must try. Blue crab moussaka is to die for. It's hard not to get that every time. The gulf scamp Cervantes is a staple and always perfect but the elk was divine last time also. We are locals and were very excited to try a new restaurant in the area. I'll start by saying the atmosphere is great, the outdoor space is very nice. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful. They had great wine options, I loved the variety. Now to the food, it wasn't terrible...however; the appetizers needed more flavor. My husbands steak was a poor cut and he said it tasted very charred. The fries tasted like they had sat under a warmer for a while. Mine was good but nothing that sticks out, I would say it needed a little more zing. Overall we probably wouldn't go back regularly but I would be open to trying again in the future. read more

A nice patron helped her up before I could get there. 3rd, I order a filet mignon with mash with added foie gras which was forgotten and I had to ask server about it. 4th, she brought a nasty slim laden looking piece of $15 foie gras that was maybe 2 ounces that was not fit for consumption on a saucer. Ambiance: Small town upper crust bistro filled with eclectic mix of young to old. Not a high end building but who cares. The black mm plastic sheeting on ceiling worked to hide the ? Insulation and in combination with whatever HVAC is installed kept it cool and comfortable despite 92 outside temp, 18 diners 8 staff in a 25 x 25 foot dining area. Service: attentive, non intrusive. We were actually asked if we wanted slow or fast. Chose slow - about what you would expect for fine dining. And, this was fine dining. Food: 20 years dining at various reincarnation of Skopelos, this is the best. On par with NYC, San Francisco, New Orleans. Excellent presentation, fine quality ingredients, masterful preparation. Will be going back. Mr. S, please try to keep this one going. Only potential downside is I noted but did not try "flight" of creme brulee fearing one might be the dread bacon version. Loved our first visit at agapi for brunch! We made a reservation and was seated right away. Our server Dana (spelling?) was awesome. We are indecisive and she helped us narrow down our choices. She checked on us multiple times to make sure we were enjoying everything and refilled our coffee and waters without having to ask. Have been here twice for dinner (outdoor seating both times) and had great experiences! The waitresses were super friendly and helpful. Absolutely zero complaints about the food- I was actually a little surprised because I really didn't care for Skopelos too much (there are a few items from the Skopelos menu that are still served at Agapi if you're in the same boat as me, but I DID actually re-order the salad because I knew I liked it). 4 stars instead of 5 is simply for the pricing compared to other restaurants in town, but I understand there are many different factors involved in pricing and will definitely be back regardless :) read more

We went there Friday night with a reservation for the first time. Ordered the June special grouper aguachile, it was fresh and spicy but a perfect appetizer to start the meal.
