Wanted to rank this restaurant 5/5 stars so bad as the tamales I ordered were easily some of the best if not the best I've ever had. Unfortunately the tacos had one giant giant flaw and tbat was that they were made pur of flour. For a burrito I understand them being made out of flour but for tacos I heavily prefer corn and in my experience tbat is the most traditional way to make them and also the tastiest! The staff was friendly. In the future I would make sure to remember to order the tacos with corn tortillas instead! read more

Visited by Guy Fieri, they have delicious food that is going to be as close as you can get this north of the border Growing up in California, I am pretty picky about my Mexican food. While it's near impossible to match Southern California, the range of options is quite impressive. Their chips are phenomenal and you can tell that the energy of the restaurant is family-recipe style. What impressed me the most is that while the service is order at the counter instead of at the table, the staff was seemingly telepathic, hearing us comment something such as "oh the chips were good I wish we had a little more" and more magically arrived without us asking. One of my friends was heading home and we decided to meet up for lunch. She picked here because we had been last year and it's low key casual. I ordered the fresh fish tacos with rice and beans and a Modelo. The tacos were really good and I loved the rice and black beans. The staff is really cool! Visited twice before reviewing. This fast casual restaurant with ordering at the counter is currently the best Mexican food in downtown Ashland. We sort of stumbled upon Agave after checking out a couple of other places that were dog-friendly but looked uninteresting. After finding Agave, we are thanking our lucky stars. This is among the best restaurants serving Mexican cuisine I have ever been to. I've lived on the border as well as all over the country in locations with outstanding restaurants, and Agave delivers. Period. The ingredients used in the recipes--including the tortillas--are made daily, and you can taste this. The service was 5-star plus and the fact that it was a dog-friendly restaurant adds extra stars. To underscore how much we loved this place, we went here for lunch and came back the same night for dinner. What to get? We had the ceviche, carne asada tacos, empandas de pollo, sopa de lima, chile relleno, green chile and cheese tamal and some tequila. Ask for the habanero salsa if you like heat. Hey, you know, also being from California, I'd ignore that 2-star review below. Seriously, she's from Stockton. I lived literally minutes from the border of Mexico. Agave's the real deal. Delicious food, great service, and you'd swear you were in San Diego, not southern Oregon. Give them a try. Start with the carnitas or carne asada, either in taco or burrito form. Doesn't matter. Their chips put Chili's to shame. If you end up not liking it, maybe you just don't like actual Mexican food. Stick to Taco Bell, then, maybe. read more

We came here after seeing the restaurant featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious and fresh. Specific call out in their chips, salsa, and black bean salad, amazing. The staff was friendly. Walk past Mix, over the river, North of the main plaza, look for the arches - if you are driving to Agave they have their own parking lot - great as parking is hard to find in the summer. Get the guacamole with two super tasty salsas - I loved the smoked chipotle salsa. Margarita - excellent. Great fast service. Fun artsy atmosphere. Aircon inside, - two outside patios. Great experience-- I had chicken fajitas and my husband had chilli relleno. Salsa was amazing-- both the green and red. It was a quick dining experience thanks to being able to order at the counter. But restaurant staff also came by to refill our waters and offer more salsa! read more

The tamales are fine. They have some good sauces, good seasoning, and a decent amount of meat for their size. They are on the smaller side though which takes down the value of the meal a bit. The pezole didn't have any hominy and the broth tasted like it used a lot of dried and powdered spices. The tacos were only ok also. The spicy pork with pineapple needed more spice. The zucchini taco had good flavor but the tortilla feel apart because the zucchini is wet. read more

It was a Saturday night. We called our order in. It was waiting for us 15 min later. We were happy. Food: pork tamale was tasty, fair amount of meat. Posole was vegetarian, good flavor. We usually add it to our order Cheese enchiladas with veggie refried beans & rice. I preferred one enchilada, due to Covid menu, they only offer the platter. I have to say, refried beans were delicious! Rice good and enchiladas with green sauce were filled with lots of cheese. The platter was enough for two meals. Chips & salsa: the bag of chips were less than expected. Bag was barely 1/2 full. Their salsa is not my favorite. Spicer than my taste. It is kinda a greenish salsa. I will pass on salsa next time. Customer service was friendly, got our orders correct (last time they were out of chips and pork, did not tell us until we picked up order). Confirm your order, making sure the did not run out if anything, you will be good to go! This is our third visit. We enjoy the flavors and will return. read more

The service is good, but the food isn't. I'm not sure how they have so many 5 star reviews. I'm from California, where we have some of the best mexican food. I should've trusted my instincts and not ate here. It is kind of pricey, almost $7 for ONE taco!! I think the best part of my meal was the agua de Jamaica. read more

This creekside gem blew me away. The west coast (even the northern areas like Oregon) has a high bar when it comes to Mexican food and these guys exceeded it, and then some. I started off with their house special margarita (perfectly balanced, not overpowered with tequila and also not too sweet) and then had the fresh salsa with homemade chips (crisp, perfectly salted, not greasy whatsoever). The ceviche had a generous amount of shrimp and the complementary textures made it one of my favorites, and the tacos/beans/rice clinched the deal. The owner and management were totally on their game -- attentive without hovering, super friendly yet professional, and genuinely appreciative of each customer who chose Agave over the many other restaurants nearby. What a wonderful place to grab some reasonably priced and delicious Mexican food before walking over to see some Shakespeare. The best part about AGAVE is their chips and salsa. They are not complementary so you will have to put in an order for them but it is totally worth it. Their 'chips' are not the store bought tortilla chips from a bag that, unfortunately, too many Mexican restaurants default to. They make their chips fresh every morning in the traditional method of cutting tortilla into strips and deep frying them. They are so light and crispy, not too oily, and perfectly salty. A true joy to eat. They also prepare their salsa fresh every morning. I also recommend ordering their "John's B Gone Famous Margarita". This place has gone through ebbs and flows. It used to suck then it changed owners and became amazing, then it got bad, and this last year it got pretty decent. The Baja fish tacos and the tamales are amazing. Staff is pretty lame, though, like in a way where they feel like robots with limited responses.
