    Complementary chips and salsa

El Paraiso was conveniently located right next to our hotel and therefore an easy choice for dinner. We were seated immediately in a booth that provides very little legroom with an affixed narrow table. Chips come to table with some water and ketchup that resembles salsa. May I have a spicy salsa please? Sure, answers the server. Months, perhaps years later the spicy salsa arrives. For dinner I order the El Paraiso special which has grilled chicken, grilled steak and carnitas. It comes with grilled vegetables and a fried jalapeño, rice and beans. It was actually pretty good. My wife ordered the Chili Verde and had zero complaints. Service was slow and salsa was weak which led to only a 3 star review. Food was good enough to return but service lacked which makes us think about it first. Stay tuned, there could be another visit.

Return visit while back in town. Another delicious meal. Service was prompt even though it was a busy evening. Really enjoy my visits here.

In town for 1 night. Always live mexican food and El Paraiso did not disappoint. We love hot n spicy and the hot red salsa was hot and good. The every customer red had an amazing fresh taste. The green came hot and was kinda bland. The AguaChile stole the show. We were kinda surprised it came cold but we were blown away the presentation, taste, the heat and the flavor. Great meal

The service was great and the ambiance was perfect. We sat outside patio. Only three problems with the food 1. The salsa is tangy/sweet at same time and not spicy. I say have an alternate option. 2. The chicken used in both the molcajete and pollo-a-la-diabla tasted the same, it was overcooked and rubbery, with no flavor. 3. The pitaya drink was too sweet for me. I added lemon and a bit more water. And all the other food and drink items were great and delicious, they include the rice and beans, ground beef taco is huge and tasty, enchilada is just the right size, the steak and nopales in the molcajete is tasty. They service huge portions. Overall, good restaurant experience.

Chicken Mole with no beans, extra salad, flour tortillas...Delicious.

This was our first visit to El Paraiso. We've traveled to this area a few times but we stayed right next door at the Holiday Inn Express this time. And how convenient to just talk a short walk through the parking lot. When I try a New Mexican Restaurant the one thing that can make or break it for me is the chips and salsa...and this restaurants is so good. We ordered the Verde Enchiladas..which my husband loved..2 kids meals of Taco Rice and beans (portions would be good for an adult) ..adding Mango Hochata drinks ..the kiddos loved everything..and I had the Mole... I always order Mole. Mole is different at every restaurant and I've had good and not so good. This was very very good. We really enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere was wonderful. We will definitely stop again during our next trip through Ashland.

The best thing this restaurant offers is proximity to the hotel -- well that and the Cholula hot sauce (required if you want some flavor in your dish). Service was pleasant enough although perhaps a tad slow. (3- stars) Food was very disappointing (1star). Fairly bland (hence the Cholula sauce reference). I've had better prepackaged taquitos out of the freezer; the shells weren't crispy and the "shredded beef" was mushy. The chicken quesadilla was pretty average, again lacking any flavor. If you're staying in a nearby hotel (like the Holiday Inn next door). Get in your car and drive in to the Ashland city center and find other options -- it's worth it.

The ambiance and friendly service here is really appreciated after a long day. We all enjoyed our food and were so hungry that we finished it. If I'm in Ashland again, I would definitely come back.

I'm really glad I listened to all the good reviews here on Yelp. Cocorico is a great restaurant. I…read morewas able to score a reservation for dinner about a week before we traveled to Ashland. Our table was in their patio space, which I actually like better than the indoor part of the restaurant. The patio space feels very open and has a lot of live plants in the planters that make space between tables. It was a little warm on the patio since it was 98 degrees outside, but they keep it relatively cool on this mostly enclosed patio. Our server was great. She was so friendly and fun to talk to. She helped us figure out what we wanted to order and checked in on us just the right amount. You can tell the food here is very fresh and homemade. We started with the Deviled Eggs, which are really special. I love how they serve them over a bed of crushed up potato chips as they give this dish some salty crunch. Next we had the Beet salad, which is marinated beets over a whipped cheese. The beets do have a strong vinegar flavor, but it's balanced out beautifully by the cheese. My wife ordered the Mushroom Bolognese, which was probably the best dish of the evening. This is an incredible, vegetarian dish that is so meaty without any meat. The finely diced mushroom sauce is so good along with the handmade noodles. Also, adding burrata to it gives it a perfect creaminess. I ordered the pork chop, which was also excellent and enormous. It did take me a lot longer to eat since it was a little hard to cut, the compote on top added a great sweetness, but I feel like it could've used more. Also, the polenta and grilled asparagus was awesome. Lastly, we got the Rice Pudding for dessert. It comes with a hazelnut crumble and a dolce de leche sauce. Normally, I feel like rice pudding has a kind of thin, milky consistency, but not this. It is think and has a wonderful texture. It is probably the best rice pudding I've ever had. The nuts give a satisfying crunch and the dolce de leche sauce is light and sweet. Disclaimer: we did order one dish we really didn't like. It was a special salad with endives and lentils. The server was happy to get us another dish.

Speaking, the brisket in the Banh Mi was unfortunately tough and lacked the tenderness you'd expect from a properly smoked or braised cut. It had the distinct texture of a pre-packaged Sysco-style product, or perhaps it was a cold portion reheated on a flat top without being properly rehydrated, leaving it dry and chewy. I understand that protein carries a high food cost, especially in the current market. However, a more effective approach might be to balance the menu engineering by leaning on lower food cost items, like seasonal sides or creative vegetarian options, to offset the expense of sourcing and correctly preparing higher-end brisket. This would allow for a better product that justifies its price point, covers its own cost, and ultimately helps the company's bottom line while maintaining the quality standards this town deserves. I'd love to see a return to the quality I experienced a few years ago. All and all, despite the brisket. The service was kind and friendly.

I love that the restaurant store front is opened wide, it makes it easy to approach and order at the counter. They have a very large variety of alcoholic drink options and some very tasty non alcoholic options as well. Even though we sat outside about 5 tables down, they still came by to deliver our food to us instead of having us waiting inside. The food was amazing. Meat was juicy, bread was perfect, both the sides of fries and house made chips were delicious. The ranch tasted like it was house made as well but I forgot to ask them. My cider was great and my partner got a strawberry slushy- both did not disappoint. The overall theme inside is adorable! It's got a lot of wooden pieces and a camping trailer inside really ties the theme together nicely. There is plenty of tables and shade outside and lots of indoor seating as well. Bathrooms are super clean and clearly well maintained by the folded toilet paper roll. The only thing I will say is if you're going to sit outside expect outside things to happen. There was a lot of flying debris from around the creek due to someone down the way doing outdoor maintenance. Despite this, my partner and I thought it was worth it to hear the running water and be in such a beautiful area for lunch. I would scream my recommendation from the roof top if I could. Thank you for a great meal!

Maybe it's just this Ashland store, but the amount of salad has been less than satisfactory. Today's salad was about 30-40% less than a few years ago. Yes, I've asked for more veg/rice, and yes I know the protein is 4oz, but I shouldn't have to ask... based on past salads. And the dressing?! /2 oz at the most (see picture).
