Coming from Tucson, Arizona, I am very picky and highly judgmental of Mexican food. We were highly recommended to come here by some friends and my thought was that it probably wouldn't be that great, again, me being judgmental. Well, what a treat our meal was! The Prickly Pear Margaritas were superb, sweet and tart, and we drank them too quickly since they were so good. We also loved the salsa and the fresh tortillas that came with it. Went here again because some friends in town visiting insisted. Got continuously pushed and run into by servers, while managing to be ignored. Also got roofied here. I've heard of about 4 or 5 other girls who have been roofied here as well. Ladies, watch your drinks. We come here all the time and every time it has been amazing! Great service, amazing food, and a wonderful atmosphere! They have quite an extensive margarita list and several times I have been tentative to try a new one and my server has told me if I do not like it he will get me a new one. Wow... great ambiance. Seems like a great place to watch live music and get tanked and eat cheap tacos. My wife is Gluten free and Vegetarian so we went there because they have a Gluten free menu but its all meat with no vegetarian options. That's messed up. So we asked the waitress if the cook could just make something he has on the gluten free menu but with no meat. and the waitress said " well the cook doesn't like special requests when he is busy". Whatever. After we asked her to just ask the cook the Manager came over after our inquiry and said "so there are some dietary issues here....so what do you need?" in a sarcastic way like we were a pain in the ass. I said " you mean to say.... what can we do for your dietary needs...right?" I can't believe they have never experienced that request. Oh well.....the customer is a pain. After working something out I ordered(non gluten and vegetarian) dinner of 2 enchiladas and a taco. Our food came out and I have to tell you....I should have ordered off the gluten free menu cause what I got was not only cold but the sauce on the enchiladas was terrible. It tasted like flour and water thrown on top of two corn tortillas( that were not even hot oiled like real Mexicans do) with cold chicken inside. Flavor...forget that. The taco (beef) was also cold inside. Like I said (from experience with 20 years in the Mexican food restaurant industry in Arizona) this is not good Mexican food in a town were every other restaurant is Mexican. The service was aweful. We approached the bar and the bartender was rude. He walked away and didn't answer simple questions. We asked about the tequila with rattle snake and he ignored our inquiry. PITIFUL. This was disconcerting because everywhere else we ate in Vail and BC, other places seemed to really value our business. This place doesn't! Gave Agave another chance for the millionth time and I can safely say ill never return again. Overly drunk staff. Pricey food and drink. You could get better Mexican at Taco Bell. Go to Montana's there free tacos blow all the food off the menu at agave. Agave can turn there business around by firing all the staff hiring some real cooks, and starting over. They have a Gluten Free Menu, but still poisoned my wife so that leads me to believe that they do not understand the concept of celiac disease. As long as you do not have to eat GF, then the atmosphere is very cool. The chips & salsa are tasty. The house Margarita is a good size and tasty. We had the enchiladas Veracruz. They were super tasty. The guacamole is a must with a great hint of lime. The black beans were good also. We had the sopaillas were very tasty and was told all of this was GF by the manager. Walked here from The Tarnes. The restaurant is crazy beautiful aesthetically - especially the stage area. All the tables are candle-lit where we sat and large glass bottles of water & chips are provided at the beginning of each meal. Salsa was really watery, but the queso I could've eaten for every meal for the rest of my life LOL. Get it, it's delicious. I got a large top shelf margarita for $10.50 and it was incredibly strong. Really good though, ordered with a salt rim!! I will never complain about extra alcohol. I went on taco Tuesday so I got three tacos and a side of the Mexican rice which were simple but great. My fiancé got mahi tacos and he absolutely loved them. They came with rice, beans, and Mexican coleslaw (which was mostly mayo-cabbage lol). Our waiter was "ok" - he looked kind of confused and distracted the whole time. Kept running off before we could finish ordering or asking for anything. All in all we will be back, but hopefully a few things will be better and it was just an off night. read more

I am writing this review purely based on my visit during taco Tuesday. The tacos were so delicious for $1.50. They do Tuesday taco for chicken and shredded beef hard shell tacos. They home make their tortillas. We had Mexican Mules which is tequila, ginger beer and like and they were fantastic. I have read a lot of reviews about rude bartenders but my experience was totally the opposite. I saw one girl run the whole bar. She was direct and attentive and quick. The second my drink was empty and my tacos were gone she was right over asking if I needed anything else. The other food I did she come out looked just as great. They have live bands on Tuesday nights and Friday and Saturday too. So happy we visited on our trip to Vail. read more

Don't EVER eat here. Was probably the worst restaurant experience we've ever had. There were little black flecks in all the drinks that came from the soda gun, so it was dirty. we sent my son's drink back 3 times~he ordered a soda and got club soda (with black flecks ) twice before he got what he ordered~even then it was dirty so he didn't drink it. The server was rude ( she corrected a pronunciation of an order in a haughty manner). And 2 people in our group got sick after we are there. Don't eat at Agave. I recently went to Vail, CO on a skiing trip with my friend. We ended up going to Agave 3 times during the 6 nights we were there. First off, the food is fantastic. The tortillas are amazing. I've tried the coconut shrimp, paella, and ceviche salad - all super tasty. The drinks were also yummy, especially the prickly pair margarita. If you're feeling daring, try a shot of their infamous rattlesnake tequilla! Finally, the restaurant frequently has bands play. We saw a fun band Saturday night, and another one the following Tuesday. Overall, we had a very good time and I highly recommend this place! read more

No ground beef. Those three words should set your expectations for this restaurant. If you prefer the relatively bland shredded beef style of Mexican food, this is your place. If you prefer the spicy ground beef Tex-Mex style (as we do), look elsewhere. With that said, the food is reasonably good and we've never had any complaints about the service. Pretty cool place. One of the most popular places for Hispanic food in Avon. I think their Fish Tacos are the best thing they have so hit them up for their Fish Taco Special on Fridays (I think). The meal started out nice, only because their free tortillas were tasty.... But what ensued after was simply the worst restaurant service I've encountered. It took 20 minutes for a server to come by and bring us our waters. Another 15 to get our very first drink order. By this point we all knew what we wanted to eat so once we finally got the attention of the manager (since our server was nowhere to be found) we went ahead and just asked for our appetizers and meals. Our meal finally arrived 1:15 after we sat. The chicken was dry as hell, they got one of the orders wrong which had to be sent back, and all the while all the staff, with the exception of one runner, were rude and careless. I loved this place the moment I walked through the door---- awesome décor-- made me feel like I had stepped across the border-- not in a "cheezy" way-- but a classy way---- waited a minute for the hostess as she was busy off doing something in the dining room--- but when we sat down here came the fresh made tortillas-- yum-- we ate em before the waiter could come get a drink order so we ordered more with our drinks-- extensive margarita list and the two chosen we really tasty and actually affordable--- coming from California the prices for drinks -- and actually the whole menu seemed quite reasonable-- ordered some calamari as an app and boy was it great-- fried but not greasy and very tender with a nice kick of some spicey peppers-- my companion ordered a carne asada steak served with a mole enchilada and I ordered a scallop dish that was frickin awesome-- as good a scallop dish as i've had in years-it came with a Mexican infused risotto and two sauces that were sophisticated yet approachable -- my companion liked the food but I simply loved it- I tried his mole and it was so complex and good -- he is from the east coast and i'm from the west coast---Agave is west coast style Mexican food for sure-- not too much cheese-- and some very healthy options which I am excited to come back and try--- they even mark the menu items as gluten free or vegetarian -- I have some friends with some dietary concerns that I will have to bring to this place--- read more
