Not sure if this location is owned by the same people as the other Agave location in NJ, but if it is this one is by far my favorite. We've ordered takeout a few times because we love their seafood soup and steak, but this past Friday we decided to dine in, and we left even more impressed. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The music set the perfect vibe and paired beautifully with the stylish decor. Also loved that even though the music was loud I could still hear and have conversations without having to scream across the table. The food was an easy 5/5. The grilled octopus appetizer was absolutely delicious and honestly I'd go back just for that dish. It was flavorful, filling, and perfect as is. The first time visiting Agave canteen because the experience seemed good to me from the entrance Luis C was very friendly with his service and accommodated us and we had no reservation. Really great Mexican restaurant in the area! Parking is limited and it's only valet but there's a ton of neighborhood street parking close by. The ambiance was perfect for a date night or girls night out. We got chips, a pinto bean dip, and salsa right when we sat down. That combination was very tasty. The overall vibe was beautiful--definitely a place that puts effort into the atmosphere. The host was friendly and welcoming. Just a heads up: I was asked if I had a reservation when I walked in, so be mindful of the timing when you arrive. Pros: It was my first time there, and the space was mostly filled with women--maybe just a coincidence, but it created a fun, comfortable vibe. My first margarita was delicious--so good it convinced me to order a second. Unfortunately, the second one didn't quite hit the same, but I'm glad I got to enjoy that first round. Food came out hot and fast, which I appreciated. The churros were a definite highlight! (It is served with a cold berry dip, not a hot chocolate syrup, fyi). Cons: Parking is definitely a challenge--limited to begin with, and after a certain hour, it switches to valet, which is a downside for me. Prices are on the high end. Honestly, the cost of appetizers alone would make it hard for me to bring the family or hang out for too long. (Guac for $18) The DJ was way too loud--it made it hard to hear our waiter and even people at our own table. Vegetarian options were pretty limited, which is something I personally look for. Came here for a Friday dinner with two friends. They have a small parking lot and I was about to pull into a spot when the valet person stopped me and was adamant that he had to park the car. This place definitely did not need valet service, just felt like they were trying to be more of a premium place than they actually are. Inside felt like a club. Maybe later at night people dance there. The DJ was playing great music but it was super loud. It was hard for me to hear the person right next to me, we were basically shouting. Food was tasty. The question said oh no, what could be improved? Everything. My sister arrived at the restaurant probably 20 minutes before me and she said nobody greeted her at the door. She waited about eight minutes before she was greeted. I arrived and the waitress came and got our drink orders. As we're waiting for our drink orders we're talking and we tried the refried beans which was clearly puréed because it was really smooth so that was good. As we were conversing the Tostones came out and the calamari as appetizers. The Tostones was clearly fried in old oil an the calamari was slightly rubbery, and too salty.. I saw that they offered crunchy shell tacos and when I get there, they only had softshell tacos and they did fry other taco shells which look like Taco Bell Chalupa taco shells, but those were too hard and not tasty and I did not enjoy that either. we put the tacos in a to go container and told them they could keep it cause I already knew I wasn't gonna eat it at home. They need to go back to the drawing board and make sure that they train their waitresses to be more hospitable because we were never asked. Do we want water and we sat and watched the couple that came in after us get poured a glass of water. Then again we were the only Black people in there. This is Clifton. I don't want to insinuate that you guys are racist but what else could the lack of customer service and attentive behavior be attributed to? It took our waitress forever to get the orders the drinks and never got the water. And it sucks because when we walked in, we said the ambience was so beautiful. Decided to try this place out for dinner. I'm usually picky when it comes to a Mexican restauran. When we walked in, we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender greeted us with a smile and told us he would be with us in a moment as he was making a cocktail. He then handed us menus and offered us some water while we inspected the menu. We had the queso fundido which is a cheese fondue with sausage. It came in with tortillas, it was really good and cheesy. We ordered enchiladas suizas with the green salsa and we recommend it! Same owner as the Agave in Wallington, but very different menu. This menu was more of a Mexican fusion menu, whereas Wallington's menu is more authentic Mexican food. Overall the food was delightful. The guac was delicious. Downside, it only came with 4 chips. Not nearly enough to eat the guac. We also ordered shrimp as an appetizer. It was good and had a nice spicy kick to it. The margarita was fantastic and was presented wonderfully. For dinner, I had the enchiladas and my fiancé had chicken. Both were good. Food is really poor quality. $18 for a bowl of canned corn with a lump of mayo on top. The Lomo had uncooked potatoes in it. I really enjoyed the ambiance and decor at Agave. It is dimly lit with a comfy vibe and good music. They have a bar you can sit at. The restaurant is decently sized as well. To start you get chips and dip (the first time I came here, I realized they forgot it... oops.. but the second time I made sure to ask for it) For food, we ordered the pulpo (octopus) which was really yum, if you like octopus - this is for you. My friend had the birria tacos, they were also pretty good. For dessert, we had tres leches. This was good but it did not have that deep flavor it should. The slice was a decent size, though and the cake still moist and milky, so it's a good dish to share. For drinks, I had the expresso martini but with their Mexican coffee and whip on top - this was delicious and hit the spot. We also had a strawberry mojito (a little sour but OK) and coconut tequila drink. Both drinks are beautifully served and were strong enough. My one comment, which I DEARLY hope they fix, is the service. Though the waitresses and waiters are nice, service is slow. They do not come to your table and check-in as often or they may forget things - it happens, it is understandable. However, it seems like they are understaffed. We came during lunch time so it wasn't busy. Nice decor, looks fancy. For appetizers we ordered the queso fondue which was delicious but comes with only 5chips really. They put so little chips you have to keep requesting more. Esquite which street corn, it was good but needed more seasoning. Came here a few days after it opened. The ambiance is truly so inviting and fun. The menu was a little more limited than I was expecting but I was able to find something pretty easily. We started with the queso that was delicious.. my only complaint is that it was served with like 5 chips.. the waiter had to refill the chip dish 3 times before we were able to finish the appetizer. Had reservation for 2 last night to celebrate 47 birthday for my date. Got seated right away in in the front by host stand in a near empty restaurant and never got greeted by a waiter. The bartender finally came over and took our food order. Food came and was dropped off by a food runner. She never check in again on us and the host and another worker stood and saw us sitting for nearly 20 mins after we got done eating. Neither one of them did anything for us. I tried to get the bartenders attention for the bill as we were just done waiting for somone to serve us. I had to approach the bar to pay the tab. I had seen their Wallington location go viral on Tik Tok and wanted to visit forever! Then there was an event opportunity at this new location and I had been impressed by every aspect of this spot. I recently returned with my father and was just as happy with my experience. The location while convenient is a little tricky with parking but overall I don't find it to be a deterrent. Inside the place is very well decorated and the vibe is fun and upscale. We ordered delicious mocktails that were served with as much flair as actual cocktails. (Their attention to detail is *chefs kiss). We received as a complementary starter, a delicious soup jam packed with great ingredients. Next we ordered the tuna tartare tacos and some steak tacos. Save your time and don't even bother with this place. I noticed a lot of slickness and inconsistencies. This is a new place that recently opened in Clifton. The ambiance is nice and modern but thats all I can say for the main positive. Oh wait the drinks are nicely decorated but weak and not worth the price. I was sat down after being on a 45 minute wait & then waited another 25 minutes before we were greeted by the server. We actually saw the waitress: Claritza greet another table that sat down 15 minutes after us. They got their apps, drinks, and food first because of course she went to them first. How do you think that made my guest and I feel? Another disappointment is that we were brought our entrees without the rice and beans. We had to call it to their attention that the rice and beans were included with our protein and were not yet brought to the table. They didn't seem apologetic at all if not annoyed rather. We ordered our drinks and waited 30 minutes until we asked the status of our drinks and the server seemed confused and went to the bar and came back and said that the bar had not received the ticket. I believe she did not put in the drinks in the system and forgot to and just gave us a lousy excuse. This place is extremely unorganized and the servers lack accountability. The server actually told us at the end when she dropped off the bill that she was so sorry but that the place is new and needed more servers and kitchen staff. To me that is not taking accountability for taking forever to greet the table and take our orders and bring out our orders incomplete and forgetting to put in the drink orders into the system. Its an insult to me and my guests' intelligence and common sense. That shows poor character in Ms.Claritza the server. I got her name from the receipt I made sure to take home with me in the end. The entrees were ok but really impressed at all. The entree I choose was Lomo Cantinero & the menu said it was skirt steak but that steak did not taste or look like skirt steak. The baja tacos were good but not out of this world. & like I said the drinks lacked. Just because everything looked pretty does not mean it tasted as good as it looked. We were given the chips and mole salsa after our main meals ... Um disorganized much? This place is NOT worth the hype at all. Also really funny how they added their own tip to the bill but the menu says that tip is automatically added to the bill for a part of 6 or more. We were basically manipulated into paying a set tip the server left herself on our bill freshly. Then she processed the payment and the little tablet was asking to leave more tip than the 20% they automatically charged. Are they trying to trick people with adding the tip on the bill in hopes that customers will not notice since the ambiance is dark and they're hoping ppl are buzzed from their weak drinks? Foram (my wife) and I have been eager to dine here for a long time and got the chance. The parking lot is small with both options for self parking or valet. As you walk in you realize that it has a modern feel with an extensive and gorgeous bar on the right with nice artwork. We were seated and greeted nicely. Then after, we ordered chicken empanadas and chicken tacos for appetizers. Empanadas were hot and cheesy. The tacos were a little dry so we asked for the red and green sauce which helped.
