I've been going to this office for about a year for my cleanings and checkups. When I first started coming here I really loved my cleanings -even though it took a while to get an appointment it was worth planning ahead. The office is nice and everyone is pleasant. It's not super close to me but didn't mind since my last dentist wasn't great. Once my hygienist left it just wasn't the same. The part time hygienist was fine, but my teeth didn't feel clean after. I haven't had any dental work done by this dentist. I'm thinking it's time to find a new office a little closer to home. read more

Extremely disappointed to make this review as I had been going to this office for over 2 years. I needed to have my wisdom teeth removed and had my consult in July. My surgery was today in September. The office is closed on Fridays and they were closed yesterday for Labor Day. The office called me after 12:30pm last Thursday to tell me I needed to come in and sign paperwork and pay. I told them I couldn't come in as I was at work but I could tomorrow and that's when they let me know they were closed. I was extremely upset and asked why they were giving me less than 4 hours notice and then threatening to reschedule me when this was the OFFICE mistake. Then they asked if I picked up medication. I never was told to pick up meds and they never prescribed them either. So I cancelled my Thursday afternoon clinic to go down to this office and do whatever they needed. I spoke with the business manager who was extremely rude, never apologized for the office mistake, blamed the surgeon, and didn't listen to me at all. I work in a surgical field and know these policies and procedures and I was appalled that I was not being treated like a patient. This was all business to them and I'm just another name on the list. I checked in for surgery and during the procedure I started to have an anxiety attack and said I couldn't breathe or swallow. They stopped briefly and the surgeon said we could stop for the day and I said no I want to keep going that I'm already here but this wasn't the expectation. He said that he did tell me it was going to be twilight sedation. I was shaking profusely during the surgery. I told him yes but you didn't tell me I was going to be this conscious and this was a concern of mine before saying yes to surgery. I do not remember anything after that obviously as there was sedation. My mother said when she came back for me I was still shaking profusely in the chair and neither the doctor or the nurse seemed concerned. When my mom asked questions, they gave her dismissal answers. When I got home I noticed I still had heavy bleeding. My mother called the office to ask and they put her on hold for over 10 minutes. She had to hang up and call back. I can only assume this was done on purpose because I'm the patient. Now an hour later they sent me an email saying I've been dismissed as a patient. I was not going to return to this clinic anyway and was going to wait on a review here to see if they could amend their mistake but clearly that was not going to happen for them. I received great dental care here until 6-7 months ago. The surgeon met with me for 5 minutes or less for my consultation, they do not send you home with paperwork, and they do not give you any instruction for your surgery prep or reminders. My biggest thing of all this was that the office did NOT double check that their surgical patients had everything done prior to surgery and then treated me like I was the inconvenience when I cancelled my day to hurry down to the office for their mistake. I have Sleep apnea, & was unsuccessful trying to use a dreaded CPAP machine, & wanted an alternative to it. I ended ed up getting a custom-made mandibular advancement device. Dr. Beth is no longer with Agave Dental. She is now with Agave Sleep -- 15 feet away -- but it's a separate entity. New Management has seemed to change their customer service policies. I cannot get the same answer from talking to two staff members to a simple question. No phone conversation is committed to written notes, so you have to start all over with a different person. One staff member I spoke to today sounded like a robot on sedatives. They have hiked their prices considerably (approx. 35%), which is a few TIMES the current inflation rate in the country. Greed seems to be their new mantra. My favorite Dental Tech, Kary, is still there and she is the ONLY reason I became established with Agave Dental for all my cleanings and work a few years ago. Kary is not "just an employee." She is a downright Ambassador for the clinic and goes far above the call. Do they still deserve her? Despite all that Kary brings to the practice, I may have to look elsewhere. It depends on whether I can get anything other than a saccharine sweet (but content-free) voicemail from Dr. Lisa, after reaching out for answers for a week now. UPDATE: They are closing ranks and stonewalling. There is a bad vibe from the practice now. Unfortunately, I'll be going elsewhere. I've been with them 4-5 years, and with their Mentor Relative's separate practice for a decade before that. They don't honor patient loyalty. read more

The staff and providers at Agave Dental are exceptional! Both my husband and I have been patients for several years. The staff is very kind and personable and it is easy to make an appointment. We both love Michelle for our cleanings. She verified with my dentist that I had thrush from my medicine which I needed to treat. My husband has had crowns following dental implants and referrals for root canals. Dr. Hamann and Dr. Chen are wonderful dentists with a light touch and great professional skill. I also appreciate that they make most of their own crowns in office so that you leave with your final crown the day of your appointment. read more

I'm an established patient of Dr. H at Agave sleep & wellness that shares the Agave Dental office. After a rock star experience with Dr. Beth & getting fitted for a dental appliance, Agave Dental was my 1st call when I cracked my tooth at lunch today. After spending a serious amount on a dental appliance, making sure it still fit once the tooth was repaired was important. The lady who answered at Agave Dental treated me like a burden. Next available emergency appointment was almost a full 2 weeks out! The expectation was that I just live with a painful, sharp & broken tooth for a few weeks like it wasn't a big deal. I was told that they are short dental assistants & given a few other lines as to why my care wasn't a priority. I asked if an exception could be made for an emergency... she then asked what that exception would be. I asked if an after hours appointment could be made available as I would do what I had to in order to be there early before open or even come in late - No. She said I was already on the emergency move up list... I'm not sure they understand what an emergency actually IS. Their office made me feel like I was a bother; like I planned to crack a tooth at a time inconvenient to THEM. I called my former dentist who was able to get me to someone who DID make an exception & IS seeing me at 5pm today. SAME DAY. No excuses about dental assistant shortages or 'super booked' scheduling. Also, I was advised that waiting 2 weeks - as Agave Dental wanted me to - with a broken, sharp & exposed tooth could cause additional pain, damage & infection. So it's NOT recommended. This experience cost both Agave Dental & Agave Sleep & Wellness a patient, which is a shame because Dr. Beth is wonderful! read more

This is my second time reviewing but it's been 4 years and I had to acknowledge this place again. I have been a patient with Agave for over 8 years. Generally I have my teeth cleaned but as time has passed I have had the need for a root canal, crowns and more extensive evaluations. There are several things that have caught my attention with everyone at Agave. First and foremost they are incredibly detailed and caring about what they do. They ALWAYS give me as much information as I need to make a decision regarding my teeth. As an older curmudgeon, they always manage to put me at ease, give me exact information on what they are recommending they do and last but not least, they tolerate me for who I am which candidly can be a lot to handle. "Where did you get your cute shoes?" "At the dentist!" This is actually true, and I will circle back to that story. But I need to first brag on Agave Dental for dental related things! When I moved and was transferring my life from the East Valley to Phoenix, one of the things I was most nervous about was seeing a new dentist. Too many experiences and stories of feeling unsure if I am being taken advantage of and being told I need work that I really don't. The reviews for Agave Dental and Dr. Hamann were very good and so I took a chance, and I couldn't be happier! I have really liked every single person I have dealt with there. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. The hygienists are knowledgeable, gentle but thorough and fun to talk with, and Dr. Hamann is a wonderful person and dentist. I feel 100% confident in the care I get there and I have never felt like I was trying to be convinced to have work done that I might not need. One thing I knew I would need was an implant. I came to their office with an extracted tooth. They have an in-office implant dentist, Dr. Chen, and where do I even begin with him? He is AMAZING! Every interaction I have had with him, from initial consultation to procedure to first follow up has been, dare I say? FUN! What a strange way to describe getting dental surgery! The procedure itself was painless and flawless. I was nervous going into it, but I am no longer afraid to have the process finished. So, back to the shoes. As I was checking out after my implant follow up appointment, Terri was asking some of the other women at the front desk if they wanted this super cute pair of shoes that she was giving away because, although they were brand new, they hurt her toe. They weren't the right size for anyone .... EXCEPT ME! The lucky size 10 checking out! Talk about the right the place and the right time. I liked them so much I wore them to work that day instead of the shoes I had come into the office with! There you go. Agave Dental is a warm, fun and friendly place where very competent people really care about patients! I became a patient at Agave Dental early this year and have received superior service during every visit. Dr. Hamann was the first dentist to do an oral cancer screening for me. It was quick, painless, and paid for by my insurance. I have seen two hygienists at the office, Rose and Maryn, both were fantastic. Last week I saw Maryn who understand oral health and people, in general. I especially enjoyed Maryn letting me guide the conversation, or lack of. I loved being able to sit quietly while she focused on my teeth. Did you know you can have a pain free tooth cleaning? Agave used a topical type anesthetic product, Oraquix, to temporary numb me during my cleaning. The cleaning was pain free and the anesthetic wore off right before I left. The office is centrally located, newly remolded and I have always been seen very close to my appointment time. Agave uses a very easy, on-line, appointment scheduling system. I was reminded electronically, via a text and e-mail about my appointment. The office is clearly a leader in communicating the way patients prefer. When I needed some dental surgery, it only made sense that I would have it done at Agave Dental with Dr Chen. Dr Chen listened to my concerns regarding sedation and explained everything to me. He and Christie his assistant were very calming during the procedure. Everything went well with my procedure and I couldn't be happier with results. My procedure was done on a Friday and Dr Chen called and checked up on my that night as well as Saturday and Sunday. He is very caring and truly listened to me. Our family was referred to Agave by a friend after our dentist retired. The first appointments were good and we liked the staff. After my first cleaning I was informed that I had "pre gum disease" and would benefit from more frequent cleanings. This was not fully un-expected as COVID kept me from one regular appointment with my old dentist. I had to pay for the extra cleaning at Agave as my insurance only covers two per year. At that cleaning I was shown some options, including a "deep cleaning" that would cost upwards of $500. Again, I was told after the gum probe, that I had some gum disease. This was concerning as I had never been told this, and was very regular on my dental care. It bothered me, but I came back for yet one more cleaning (recommended) after being told "I could improve..." This was my effort to avoid the deep cleaning. The gum probe (by the hygienist, not the doctor) produced a number of 3s, 4s and 5s...even though I'd never had a check up like that previously. Rarely do you see the dentist(s) at Agave -- I cannot even tell you their names. Anyway, I found it odd and every step of the way my experience was that Agave wanted more $$$ in the way of more treatment. I was suspicious after them insisting that I needed a deep cleaning and some sort of antibiotic to stop the gum disease. So, I decided to see a third dentist and start over. I was fully prepared to apologize to Agave and return. I got all new x-rays, photos and a gum probe. No 3s, 4s or 5s...in fact, the new DENTIST I saw actually said, "Your teeth are in great shape, you've obviously had good care over the years. Then he showed me a crack and filling that needed care. Not a word about "deep cleaning", gum disease or returning every 3-4 months for more cleanings. Agave had shown me the filling that needed care, but not the crack. I reflected back and think this was because the 5 minute "check up" I'd been given by the dentist at Agave literally missed the left side of my mouth. She simply listened to the hygienist, nodded and smiled. What I will say is that my old dentist never mentioned gum disease, and neither did the new (third) dentist. Another family member had a similar experience, including other problems with an anti-stain solution that actually created new stains. My suspicions are spot on -- Agave has an angle, and that angle is to get patients in and then ramp up the care, even if it's not needed. Disturbing. This is not the way it is supposed to work. Again, I'd be the first to apologize, come back for a deep cleaning and antibiotic wash, etc. -- but to find, after a full and complete check up at a new, third office...and by the DENTIST himself, not the hygienist...that my teeth are in great shape, etc., there is not another better word except "disturbing". The other advice this prompts is to always insist that your gum probes are done by a DENTIST, not a hygienist. This way, at least, you'll be getting a medical doctor's reporting as opposed to someone who very often works on commission for all sorts of treatment -- whitening, stain solutions...deep cleaning...etc. read more

I drove 3 hours to get to Agave Dental and it was totally worth the trip!! The office staff are all very friendly and professional. They adhere closely to all CDC guidelines related to COVID. Dr. Eric Chen completed all the steps of extraction, bone powder implantation, and braces in Agave Dental, and completed the whole implant process on 12/3/2020 Throughout the dental implant process, I followed the guidance of Dr. Chen, and after completing each stage, Dr. Chen told me that every stage was very successful and that we could proceed to the next stage. The entire implant was completed on 12/3/2020. Dr. Chen told me that the implant was successful and did not tell me any problems that would occur after the implant. Dr. Chen and I have been communicating in Chinese during the tooth grafting, so we did not have language communication problems. After the implant, my new tooth always felt uncomfortable. I thought it was part of getting used to the new tooth, it was possible that the implant wound did not grow correctly and I wasn't used to the new tooth. But by 03/2021, I felt that the new tooth was loose .So, I went back to Agave Dental on 03/04/2021 to let Dr. Chen check. After the inspection, Dr. Chen told me, "All the bone powder from before is completely gone and so the tooth is loose.", And he pulled out the failed implant. I asked Dr. Chen why the dental bone powder was gone and he replied ," I don't know. Give me a few days to think about it. I'll call you and tell you why. If you want to redo it, I need you to pay the full bill again." I have paid my personal portion for dental implants $2500, the insurance company pays the other portion. After nearly three weeks, I didn't receive any information from Agave Dental or Dr. Chen. So, I called Agave Dental. The woman who answered the phone said that Dr. Chen was not in the office and that she'll leave Dr. Chen a message, have him call me. I waited a few more days, but still no reply. I sent another email to Agave Dental and they gave me the same answer, "They will tell Dr. Chen, then he'll call me." Two days later I still didn't receive a phone call from Agave Dental or Dr. Chen. I feel like Agave Dental and Dr. Eric Chen are trying to avoid responsibility. . I believe that because of the failure of Dr. Eric Chen's work, it is unfair for me to bear all of it, I suffered all the pain and time and $2500 for nothing. read more
