Colorado Plate and Chips & Salsa, with flour tortillas, refried beans and fried rice

First and foremost, incredible atmosphere, very authentic and I felt like I was back at home. Food was incredible, the cooks and chefs here are phenomenal and have incredible talent. Customer service from everyone was outstanding, as someone who works in customer service this is the gold standard of service. Thank you Agave Maria's for such a great experience

Stopped by for a delicious lunch before hitting the town for shopping in Ojai. This place is our FAVORITE place to eat Mexican food. We started with a pitcher of the pixie margarita (a must) and chips and salsa. I enjoyed the chicken tacos dorados. The patio is beautiful and our service was just right, not too slow and not too fast. The bathrooms were very clean too.

Tostada in bowl with cheese on side

I've heard great things about this place from neighbors and finally got to confirm their praise of it today. The service was great: attentive, kind, and helpful. The atmosphere was pleasant: we sat on the patio for lunch and the music, fountain and patio decor and layout, and cleanliness made the whole experience appealing. I got the tostada in the big ol' tortilla bowl. It was fantastic: the crispness of the bowl, the freshness of the lettuce and tomato, and the tastiness of the chicken and refried beans. Not to mention they give a good amount of sour cream and guacamole on it. I've found my tostada place in Ojai now and that's important for me. Id recommend this place over Jim and Rob's a few block up and across the street. Agave Maria's Restaurant has great variety of unique dishes too which gives us that bonus star for me. I can't wait to try their Duck Quesadilla next time. Our table also loved the fresh salsa, but it was a little spicy for me. All the fresh ice teas were a table favorite as well. We also got a macho burrito (50/50) which was A+ and a combo plate with beef taquitos and chicken enchilada. My husband really liked the beef taquitos: simple, crunchy and tastey.

My wife and I spent the weekend up in Ojai, and for lunch we decided to stop at Agave Maria's. There was a sign out front saying they'd been voted best Mexican restaurant 10 years in a row, and that was all the encouragement we needed to give it a try. We walked in and were seated right away. The place had a comfortable, easygoing feel to it that set the tone for the meal. Margaritas showed up at the table within minutes. They were cold, smooth, not too sweet. Chips and salsa followed, and from there the food just kept hitting the right notes. My wife enjoyed a beef enchilada and a cheese tamale. Both were excellent, packed with flavor, and clearly made with care. I ordered the carnitas plate for myself, which came with rice, beans, and fresh tortillas. The carnitas were tender and seasoned just right, and everything on the plate worked together. It was one of those meals where every bite reminded you why you came. Service made the experience even better. Our server checked in often enough that we felt looked after, but never hovered. They let us relax and enjoy our afternoon without interruption. Yes, the prices are higher than your typical Mexican restaurant, but you don't go to Ojai expecting bargain dining. You go for good food, good atmosphere, and a chance to enjoy yourself, and that's exactly what we got. We left full, happy, and ready to take on the rest of the day. If you're in Ojai and craving Mexican food, Agave Maria's is absolutely worth a stop. It lived up to the sign out front, and we'd go back without hesitation.

Kids chicken enchilada with rice and beans. Lots of food!

First time here and we will definitely come back! Not only is the food delicious and I'll get to that in a minute, but the ambience is relaxing and beautiful and if you are fortunate enough to get Naomi as your server you're in for a treat! Naomi was kind, patient and knowledgeable on the menu and options. All the staff was welcoming, friendly and ready to assist. The food was delicious, we had the chile relleno (mine was spicy and delicious and my husband's was not ) both were cheesy and flavorful! We also tried the chicken enchiladas and they were filling and yummy according yo my little one! The rice and beans were fantastic! Don't forget to the margaritas you can't go wrong!!

    Very sucky fajitas!!
    Tim P.

Avoid. Just avoid. The fajitas were served on a warm iron thingy, not hot, with some sort of soup dumped over it. The seasoning reminded me of Lawry's crap. The chips came from restaurant supply. The salsa, a jar. Can't get a lemon in my iced tea to save her tip! Not sure why this place is so busy, except the patrons don't know any better!!!

    Chicken mole

Went here for Friday Date Night, the lighting with the fire pit and heaters made it pleasant to eat outside. Service was quick and very helpful with drinks and menu options. I ordered the chicken mole and it had a small kick to it which was a nice change to the sweet mole restaurants usually offer. My wife ordered the carnitas enchiladas and that combo worked, I would probably order them next time. The drinks were very flavorful and smooth. On the sensory level i would give this a 4 out of 10. Lightning was low and quiet enough to be able to have a conversation. Will be back for some pixie drinks!

Traffic all around but we did get out and walk around. Someone said, "I'm hungry, anyone else?"...Of course they were obliged by ALLLL of us! We decided to walk a few blocks from the crowds, came upon Jim & Rob's Fresh Grill + the cantina. We went in and ordered. The service was very good and a few of us saved a large booth as the others went next door to the cantina...there was a good number of folks in there already eating...some locals, you can just tell-made me feel better. Our food arrived: Smash burger I had ordered was great. The pickles as someone else mentioned were a very tasty yet the meat flavor was still there. A chicken burger, some tacos, and some buffalo wings, fries..Cold beer(it was a warm afternoon)-rounded off the 'posse' order. Everything was very good. Jim & Rob's serves some very tasty food. I asked for no pico-de-gallo on my alota tostada, but it was on there. The food is generally bland, but in the best way. They don't go over the top. It's simple flavors which is how I like it. It sits easily in the tummy. This place is for a comfort Mexican meal. Not the fancier foo-foo style you might expect at a destination restaurant. That's why this place is a go-to for the local crowd.

Our total bill with tip was $50. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich that was delicious, juicy but also really messy. And my friend got the Bistro Burger. We spit out sandwich/burger in half with one another to try both. Although I liked my Buffalo chicken, I think I preferred the burger. We also both upgraded to truffle fries.

We kept our orders simple, and surprisingly, the food came out extremely fast... before the coffee even arrived. Overall though, the food was good. I had the avocado toast, which was really tasty, and everyone in the group seemed to enjoy what they ordered. The real standout here is the setting, the golf course and surrounding grounds are absolutely beautiful and make for a really nice atmosphere. Overall, a solid spot for smaller groups or a casual outing, but larger parties might be a bit of a challenge for them.

I am definitely surprised by the lower reviews as our experience on a Sunday evening was pretty stellar and hopefully the reviews continue to be more positive if the restaurant and staff are making adjustments to the feedback. We stumbled in on a Sunday evening after wine tasting. We truthfully wanted round two of drinks and a clean bathroom lol. I had heard about this spot in the past and their curb appeal drew us in. Love their signage, the name/logo on the front wall, and once we walked in the bar seemed very cute and inviting. Probably what would have been an initial red flag was that it was dead inside but we just wanted to sit and enjoy a cocktail. The outdoor patio seemed cute and did have like three tables full. We looked over the menu and were actually very impressed. They have an extensive cocktail menu with fun looking drinks and ingredients. The food menu looked pretty appetizing to me if I'm being honest. Based off of the menu alone I'd come back. Happy hour during her weekdays seems legit too. My group only ordered cocktails but the drinks were pretty and a generous pour! Three of us ordered the prickly pear margaritas and we loved the tall glass they came in. We really loved how the female bartender whipped our drinks up super quickly. My other friend got a Smokey cocktail and we all agreed we really liked our drinks. Had we not already been drinking all afternoon I would have definitely ordered another cocktail. The staff were actually very nice and sweet (going against other reviews). The bartender again was really quick with the drinks and made them very tasty. The waitress who checked up on us was darling. Me and my girlfriends were deep in conversation and I appreciated how she would check in on us but also was mindful to not seem interruptive. She also gave us recommendations on what food is popular and to order next time. While I only experienced the bar area I was very pleased with our visit. Drinks were good, the decor cute, and nice staff. Hoping more people will give them a try as we really liked this spot. Clean single bathroom too in the back which was helpful as we all needed a pit stop and refresh. Definitely keeping this spot in mind next time I'm in Ojai and needing a margarita.
