My wife had 3 a la cart tacos: carnitas taco, shrimp soft taco and a shrimp dorado taco. The standout was the fish tacos! Very flavorful. I was told the use snapper and I could tell it was fresh! Was craving authentic Mexican food on our recent trip down to Southern California, and discovered this place. As advertised, staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking is available in the rear one street over. Very safe with lots of spaces. I ordered the Fajita Burrito with carne asada. This is a basic presentation, and I cannot say enough good things about my meal. The vegetables were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crunch and very fresh. The beef was so tender I would not have needed a knife to cut it. Very flavorful and not a lot of fat at all. Delicious. Mild salsa and guacamole is included. All for under $20.00 and home made chips and salsa are included. Very good salsa I opted to take home with me. The entree was quite generous and I took half of my burrito home with me. My only comment is the place is a bit small and rather dark as there are several TV's to watch sports. I do like sports but I prefer a bit more lighting to see what I am eating and how clean the establishment is. Otherwise I would have given a 5 star rating. I do need to mention the restroom was quite clean. Obvious to see this is a locals gathering spot. Where to begin? Tepatitlán de Morelos is a city and municipality founded in 1530AD, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. I can only imagine how far back their recipes go! This is authentic Mexican food, a place where Mexicans and Mexican-Americans go when craving a dish from their childhood. Reminds me of dishes my grandparents would make...the flavors and smells bring back pleasant memories. The Grilled Fish Taco Plate is one of my favorite dishes. Two generous tacos filled with Fish, shredded lettuce, Pico de Gallo, and cheese. Served with a small side of rice, and beans. If they are out of Fish, then my next option is the Chorizo and Eggs Plate. Their Chorizo is homemade and has a nice consistency. Not to mention its flavorful! I usually ask for it to be topped with both red and green salsa. Then garnished with cilantro and onions. The service is always quality. The folks are friendly and greet everyone rather quickly. You have two seating areas: The left-side of the place is the Bar. This side of the restaurant is more lively but has tabletop seating as well. The right-side is booth seating and a bit more quite/intimate, you can enjoy a meal / conversation with a friend or small family. Tip: Ask for the Green Habanero Salsa! I woke up Saturday morning, craving authentic Mexican food and I knew exactly where I wanted a Mexican breakfast burrito with papas beans, eggs and some real homemade just the way my mother used to make it. First thing I noticed was the kind, warm, familial service from all staff. I was having a rough day and these folks made us feel at home. The ambiance was crowded but they had just reopened after a 2 weeks vacation. Plenty of space for big parties, a really nice large patio area. The food was fresh, well spiced and the asada was tender and delicious, marinated with great flavor. All the dishes were amazing. The enchiladas were light and fluffy and the sauce was homemade and delicious. Ask for the homemade habanero salsa, it is spicy and delicious. I STRUCK GOLD, PEOPLE! I ordered their birria de chivo soup and it was STELLAR! Colossal, rich, hot broth, side of rice, beans, salsa, cebolla, cilantro y tortillas! Aye dios mio! It was an outstanding flavor bomb! I asked for homemade tortillas and the server said: "we don't have homemade, that would take us forever!" Let me just say, that is the one thing that would add even more stars to this. An authentic, amazing soup like this NEEDS homemade tortillas. I suggest offering them for an up charge with a dish like this. It's like not putting premium in a Ferrari... seriously! Not only was the food and hot chocolate absolutely amazing but the service was too! I felt very welcomed and well taken care of by the lady who was working the front. I loved her energy! Unacceptable service from start to finish. We waited a long time just to be acknowledged, finished our drinks before the food arrived, and the timing of refills and chips made no sense. The server was rude, inattentive, and in a bad mood. A drink was made incorrectly, and when we asked for it to be fixed, an inappropriate comment was made. We were also overcharged on taxes, and when I asked for a detailed receipt, the server became angry and hostile. Ventura has so many great "Mexican" restaurants it gets hard to pick standouts. Taqueria Tepatitlan is one of those standouts. It's a wonderful family run business along Ventura Ave. My go to for first time at a new place is a Chili Relleno which did not disappoint, with it I had a beef (shredded) enchilada, with a marvelous red sauce.... wish I had thought to order an extra bit on the side! Anxious to go back a try out a few more menus items. Pro-tip on your first visit the sign is tiny, and hard to read, very easy to miss. read more

Ventura Avenue is loaded with delicious Mexican food options. Taqueria Tepatitlan offers lots of good menu options. I always taste the beans and rice first to see if they are flavorful. They get five stars for the beans! Another highlight was their chili relleno, a large pepper stuffed with lots cheese, coated with a egg batter and cooked til golden brown. Served in a red sauce with red peppers. Out of all the tacos we tried we enjoyed the al pastor the best. They have a nice patio seating. Signage is difficult to see from the street.
