My review is strictly for the bar area and cocktails but wow! We stumbled in on a Sunday evening after wine tasting. We truthfully wanted round two of drinks and a clean bathroom lol. I had heard about this spot in the past and their curb appeal drew us in. They have an extensive cocktail menu with fun looking drinks and ingredients. The food menu looked pretty appetizing to me if I'm being honest. Based off of the menu alone I'd come back. Happy hour during her weekdays seems legit too. My group only ordered cocktails but the drinks were pretty and a generous pour! Three of us ordered the prickly pear margaritas and we loved the tall glass they came in. We really loved how the female bartender whipped our drinks up super quickly. My other friend got a Smokey cocktail and we all agreed we really liked our drinks. Had we not already been drinking all afternoon I would have definitely ordered another cocktail. The staff were actually very nice and sweet (going against other reviews). The bartender again was really quick with the drinks and made them very tasty. The waitress who checked up on us was darling. Me and my girlfriends were deep in conversation and I appreciated how she would check in on us but also was mindful to not seem interruptive. She also gave us recommendations on what food is popular and to order next time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While I only experienced the bar area I was very pleased with our visit. I'd say, staff is not super friendly or excited to see you. As a foodie, I always super excited to try a new place and tend to be chatty. I felt our server did not really care to interact . No beans or rice to accommodate the meal. Fish, well I'm sorry to say tastes like van de kamp frozen fish sticks. Tortilla was pretty thick, I believe it's make there. The enchiladas, was two tortillas filled with the protein of choice and covered in the sauce. Not your usual rolled up. And it was one enchiladas served as is, a la carte. No sides as well. Food, was just ok but nothing to raved about. Another option was one of the salad but glad we didn't get it. The table next to us ordered it and it looked like a small side salad. Drinks were good. This charming restaurant serves New Mexican food which is basically Mexican food with a regional twist. And it's absolutely delicious. I wanted to try every single item on the food menu and nearly all of the items on the cocktail/booze menu. They even have mezcal and tequila flights. That is reason enough for a trip back to Ojai. Frito Pie is basically a junk food dish, albeit a comforting, delicious one, but the chili they use here is terrific. It absolutely elevates this dish beyond just very tasty junk. The Green Chile Stew was deeply flavorful and very filling. It's wonderful. The Sopaipilla, served with red or green sauce or Christmas style (both sauces), is a beautiful dish and fantastically flavorful. I also tried the Prickly Pear Margarita because I will always order a Prickly Pear Margarita whenever I see one on a menu and it was very nice and not too sweet. Why this place doesn't have all five star reviews is a complete mystery to me. The service was great and the food was outstanding. Seating inside and out, on a nice patio. This updated location is a nice addition to the main street in Ojai. The patio is shady, and we had our choice of tables and a comfortable couch at the back. One of the few places in Ojai open for cocktails in the early afternoon, they offer happy hour from 2 to 6. We stopped by on a quiet Thursday afternoon and indulged in happy hour drinks as well as the happy hour chile con queso and their delicious blue corn tortilla chips. Go hungry because the queso serving is huge. The menu includes lots of tasty choices, so we look forward to coming back for a full meal. read more

My wife and I live in town and this is one of our favorite spots. We eat here regularly and have had excellent experiences every time. Friendly and attentive waitstaff, and the food is always excellent. I loved the sopapillas, though they're no longer on the menu, but everything I've had here is great. My wife loves the green chile goddess salad, and the green chile stew is excellent as well. And they have good happy hour deals. We usually eat outside, but the vibe inside and at the bar is good too. I don't understand the negative reviews. It sounds like people talking about a different restaurant. read more

My friends and I tried this restaurant before a show at the Libbey Bowl ( because it's very close) I liked the ambiance and service was good. I ordered Tres Hermanas Bowl, it was delicious and healthy. Normally Mexican restaurants serve big portions so compared with them, I felt everything was a little bit pricey to me for this portion but maybe it's Ojai price??? I have authentic Mexican food often so I think this is Americanized Mexican food. I didn't know why but inside of the restaurant was very hot( they were not using air conditioning on purpose or it was broken??) The restaurant is small but they have also nice outdoor seating. My review is based on food. Service and Ambiance is great. It is my first time in Ojai, and it's a beautiful city. We just stopped by Tres Hermanas to grab some food and drinks. I ordered a red-sauced wet burrito (with beef as the protein) and nacho chips. There weren't that many chips compared to the amount of dipping sauce provided, so we asked for extra chips. Later, we found out that we were charged an extra $3 for them. (It would have been fine if the server had informed us beforehand.) We were hungry, and I was happy to get my burrito, but frankly speaking, it was the worst burrito I've ever had in my life. And it wasn't just me--my friends felt the same way. It's really hard for a burrito to taste bad, but somehow, it did. I don't think I'll be returning here. Even the margarita had too much salt on the rim and tasted a little off. read more

* Horrible service warning * We were a group of 3 seated in the somewhat empty patio on a Saturday afternoon. Two tables were seated after us and both were waited before us. We waited for about 10-15 mins for a waiter to come by and at least offer us water, but nothing. Unfortunately this felt very discriminatory given we were the only people of color in the patio. We informed the manager/owner and she said "oh okay" when we informed her why we were leaving. Regrettably my return to Tres Hermanas was a disaster that undermined my previous enjoyment. After being seated, we waited ten minutes for any service, after which the bartender came over with water. When we told her we were ready to order, she said a waiter was supposed to take it but grudgingly said she could do it. My partner and I both ordered the Squash Salad which was altogether lacking in squash (see photo). There were trace amounts of undercooked zucchini hidden among layers of corn and tomato. When we told the bartender that we couldn't see any squash, she said that it was there but she didn't want to "point at our food." She offered to bring us more from the kitchen; we accepted but the wait for a measly portion of unseasoned vegetables was another twenty minutes. When we finally dug into our meals, the dressing was way too heavy handed and drenched the lettuce. I wish they would bring back older menu items. They once had some winners that have since disappeared. read more

The food was pretty good too, nothing that blew my mind but everything was tasty. She was not helpful with our diet restrictions and seemed like we were bothering her by just asking for a side of salsa. They were also out of guacamole and pico de gallo which I have never experienced at a Mexican restaurant. Giving this two stars because the drink I had was actually really good. My husband and I stopped by for cold margaritas while walking around downtown. The hostess was friendly and welcoming so was our waitress. I ordered the house margarita and my husband got the Spa water margarita. Both served cold over a lot of ice. Couldn't taste much of the alcohol but it hit the spot. We enjoyed our short break here cause the ambiance is great. Beautiful patio and indoor bar area. We didn't order food so I can't say anything about the food but the drinks need more alcohol. This place is truly amazing. I can't give it enough accolades. The food was so fresh and well prepared and generous portions as well. There's a special gourmet touch to this restaurant and the atmosphere is beautiful! honestly, besides the stellar food, one of the things that impressed the most was the helpful and friendly service. I noticed that some of the other reviews were not as high but this was a stellar experience for us. I highly recommend the fish tacos. The guacamole is delicious topped with a special red oil that they use which I never had before, but it really rocks. *Horrible Service* We were excited to try a new lunch spot in Ojai as we meet once a month for lunch. The door was unlocked and little after noon and our group along with several other parties walked in to be reprimanded for not having made a reservation. While we were seated first, we were not approached for a drink order or to receive a pitcher of water until the waitress/bartender took the orders from two other tables. The waitress was not having a good day and was short in answering our questions and just rude. The food was ok. Way too much fat on the pork stew and very little flavor. Made a day trip to Ojai to celebrate our anniversary and randomly chose Tres Hermanas for lunch. Turned out to be an excellent choice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A small place with a good sized patio which was perfect for the great weather we were enjoying.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My wife of 48 years loves a margarita and after sipping hers went wide-eyed. She declared it to be the best she had tasted! Even the crushed salt on the glass rim seemed special. Evidently, very refreshing, akin to a homemade lemonade but not. Foodwise? I joke about her love of Fritos corn chips, so when I saw the old fashioned Frito Pie I insisted she try it. She was afraid it would be too big, but laughed when it came to the table. Picture a snack sized bag of Fritos sliced open and placed in a bowl then layered with beef chili, onions and cheese. Every bite was a perfect blend of the ingredients. I tasted it and agreed. It doesn't sound special, but it was. It wasn't just ground meat sprinkled with seasoning. I had the Fish Tacos. To quote from the menu, "2 fresh blue corn tortillas w/ beer battered fried cod, elote lime slaw, pico de gallo and avocao salsa." The torillas were handmade there, all ingredients fresh. Delicious. Evidently this place opened in 2020, had to have been a rough year to start a restaurant. I'm theorizing that a slow start gave them time to really craft each selection on the menu. The food was amazing. Their non-alcoholic drinks were full of flavor. We had the sopes and elote salad. Each meal was generous in portion size and very well balanced. The sopes were great to share and tasty. The ingredients complimented each other and didn't overwhelm one another. The true winner was the elote salad. It was full of flavor, the dressing was a great interpretation of the classic sauce, and the grilled flavor of the corn really came through. We had a server in training, and she was pleasant and attentive. We'll definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu! The ambience is very laid back and well appointed. The chips were tossed in the sauce which is so confusing, because I don't understand why anyone would want to eat soggy chips - and how do you eat soggy chips? With your hands?? I had to use a fork. The fish tacos were mediocre, the worst part being the "guacamole" which clearly looked processed and squeezed out from a tube. The service was kind, though, so I'll give them that. In retrospect, I wish we would have just waited it out because the service took just as long at Tres Hermanas and the food was pretty poor. I ordered the blue corn enchiladas and they were absolutely swimming in sauce - and they weren't even properly folded enchiladas! Also the water tasted bad too which feels like a basic thing to get right. Finally, the service was pretty slow and you could just tell that the employees were overworked and understaffed. NEW Mexican food. As in, the state of New Mexico - ya know, the southwest of the US? All of these reviews saying this "isn't Mexican food" are missing the point - NM cuisine is something special all its own. No, we aren't trying to say it's a brand new Mexican restaurant in town, we mean New with a capital N - aka a proper noun. Onto the food and drinks! These are low key some of the best salads in town. The Greens of Enchantment has this magical dressing and it's a huge portion. The Elote Wedge is delicious and filling as well. You can add protein and it's more than enough for an entree. Also, Tres has by far the best margaritas downtown. The green chile salt on the spicy margarita is so good, I sub it onto everything including the micheladas. The interior and design on the patio are gorgeous, so needed in town to have a fresh, beautiful space. The staff are lovely, welcoming and thoughtful. I hosted my sister's bridal shower, a lunch of about 20 and the patio was so perfect for a small event while they were still open to the public. We had a great time and it was a fraction of the cost I was quoted for other downtown options that had high minimums and fees. I imagine for a smaller rehearsal dinner or wedding welcome party, buying out this space would be so fun. They have a great happy hour as well, which is getting scarcer to find these days. Brunch options on the weekend... something for everyone! I also like that someone actually comes to the table and takes your order, it seems like so many new spots opening up have moved to the fast casual trend of ordering at the counter - sometimes you just want to relax at your table without hopping up for every little thing. read more

It's hard to decide what I love most about Tres Hermanas... They're in the perfect location, the food is incredible, and the service is phenominal. I came in with a friend last Saturday and the place was poppin'. Come to find out, the owner was handling the entire restaurant by herself. And I must say, it was really refreshing to see the owner hand-making all of the drinks, running all the food, and interacting with her guests. I was impressed, to say the least. We had a Serrano Sour and a Spa Water to drink, and shared the Green Chile Queso Dip and Elote Wedge Salad. SO GOOD!! They did a great job designing the place; the outdoor area is adorable, and the inside is equally as cute. Such a great spot for lunch, dinner, or even just for drinks at the bar. New place in Ojai + was excited to try as a local. So disappointing. One day we went in to try the margaritas at the bar because the kitchen was closed... they were EXCELLENT. When coming back for dinner, we both noticed neither of our margaritas were as good, actually pretty tasteless with little to no alcohol. Frito pie: $12 for a bag of Fritos with lukewarm bland beans and cheese. I use to get this kinda thing at a street food vendor in Miami for like $3-$5 and it was spectacular. Skip! I looove spicy food, but I can definitely see the food being way too spicy for the average joe. I asked if the green chili sauce was spicy and the server said "not as much as the other foods". It was spicier than a hot wing..... Menu said $17, next day looked at the receipt to find that the entrees were $18. Annoying lol Spent $90 for 2 people for a pretty mediocre meal. The Prickly Pear Marg is a must! If you want to make it a little spicy, have them throw green chili salt on the rim and it's perfection. We came here particularly because we saw flat bread on the menu and I knew immediately this was code for sopapilla. Theirs aren't quite like a traditional New Mexican one that's puffed up, but they do a great job mimicking the flavor. We focused on drinks and appetizers before we hit a local movie. The Green Chili Artichoke Dip is exceptional, again the marg delicious and the service was attentive, fast and funny. Plus, the patio is really nice for a warm evening out. read more

Having grown up with New Mexican food and missing it, we thought it would be fun to try out the food here. The restaurant itself had a great atmosphere and was clean and inviting. Georgia O'Keefe art on the walls, nice color combinations. Good vibe. The food unfortunately was not much to mention. The green salsa with the chips was quite good. We ordered enchiladas and they were not quite what we expected. Not enough sauce and the Chile was really mild. We are used to our enchiladas swimming in sauce with a basket of sopapillas and honey butter on the side and also beans. The enchiladas were just some soaked in sauce and cheese with a lot of chicken. Our friends got the posole and said it was fine but no heat. I would definitely go back and have drinks and some chips and salsa. Think I'll stick to making New Mexican food at home. read more
