We are traveling and used to live in an area that has great Mexican food. One of my favorites is chicken mole and a margarita. We were going to go to a burger place but walked by Agave and the yard art is so fun I really wanted to go there-still walked to the burger place we planned and it's a chain . Went back and the moment we walked in we were -yes! This is it. Had a fabulous dinner -chicken mole (fresh homemade sauce) and enchilada verde-the best we have ever had-also made fresh. Now let's talk about the margaritas! Wow-I had the the first one on the menu Agave Royal with red grapefruit-omg! Amazing! Not too sweet and really refreshing. Service was amazing and the ambiance-hand carved and painted chairs-each different and unique-stunning. It looks small from outside but really large inside but still intimate. Cute place! Our service was absolutely lovely, quick and so friendly. I was debating what to get and went with the chicken flautas and their version of a pina colada. The drink was so good, I loved it! The flautas were decent, nothing to write home about. Loved the chips and salsa at the table! We had a great time and I would definitely come back to try their other food if we lived in the area, I just think chicken maybe wasn't the way to go. 1) A piece of hair was found in one of the dishes we ordered. 2) I did not like the fish tacos at all, the fish was bland and not seasoned well, and the rest of the toppings/condiments did not make the tacos much better. Additionally, the way my order was packed to-go (we ordered takeout) essentially destroyed the tacos and made them very difficult to eat, as all the tortillas got mashed together and were difficult to pick up. 3) They accidentally packed someone else's half-eaten quesadilla leftovers into our to-go order. While I normally would be fine with free food, this seemed pretty unsanitary... 4) For a relatively empty restaurant, the service was slow. My friend went to Wal-Mart and back while we waited ~25 minutes for our food. 5) They charge $4 extra for additional chips and salsa. Fantastic service! My server, Kiersten was very nice and attentive. Cool place. I was the only one in there for a late lunch. I would imagine that later today they will be busier for dinner. We have lived in Flagstaff for about 12 years and tonight was the first time we had dinner at Agave. The food, service and atmosphere were awesome as was our server Jocelyn. The manager Christine, came by to check on us and told us a little bit about Agave. They use fresh ingredients, stress customer service to their employees and there are no additional service charges like other Mexican restaurants in town. The food and drink prices are very reasonable, a combination hard to come by these days. We couldn't have had a better experience. We will be back! read more

We had lunch here yesterday and this is the first place I've seen that sells abondigas soup. Omg it was amazing. The meatballs were freshly made and tender. We asked for light ice and they did not disappoint! These are smooth and flavorful! My favorite soup in the world is a huge bowl of Albondigas! This was one of the best I have had hands down. Their broth is a rich heavier broth than usual making it a meal. I received 3 large meatballs and plenty of veggies. I usually add a side of rice to my soup and did so last night. Their rice has good texture and has a great taste. My husband had the dinner #2 combo plate and was very happy, return again happy. He is a very picky eater and so this is a huge compliment from him. We stopped in here for lunch today as we were out running errands. It's bright and colorful; lots of fun stuff to take pictures, and I will bet it's a hopping party scene on the weekends. I has two shredded chicken taco lunch plate and hubby had the pork Chile verde lunch plate. Both were good, mine was a little bland, hubs was better with the right amount of heat. Service was friendly. They have a slew of flavored margaritas, all anywhere from $9-14 or so, I uploaded the menu. We're native Southern Californians and we love authentic, homemade Mexican food...which is why we love Agave in Flagstaff! In talking with the staff, we found out the recipes come from their grandmothers who lived in Tonala, a kingdom ruled by a queen before the Spaniards arrived. Being close to the coast of Guadalajara, the recipes focus on seafood as well as traditional proteins. My daughter was able to get fabulous, fresh fish tacos while I enjoyed Pollo con Crema, chicken with mushrooms and bell peppers in a rich cream sauce. Service was pretty good, all of the restaurants with tons of excellent reviews had long lines outside and around. Not much else to do in Flagstaff besides see the national parks and eat. :-) Food was mostly on the bland side and one item was forgotten which they brought out when we were about to leave. The meal was superb. We live in the valley and haven't found great Mexican food. Agave was awesome. I had the Aztec plate.

I've been to Agave a few times over the years and I feel like each time I go it's different. I ordered some food for pick up and wasn't very impressed. The servings were pretty good, which I was thankful for, especially since the prices were pretty steep. Unfortunately, the food was pretty flavorless and dry. There was a sauce that came with mine, but I really don't know what it was. I'm hoping it wasn't salsa as it tasted like straight tomato sauce. It was so strange I didn't use it at all. My shredded beef was alright and not too bad. A friend got carnitas and it was very dry though. The rice and beans were alright, but not amazing. We also tried an appetizer, but it was veeerrry salty. For the price, we don't know if we'd return here very often. The food just doesn't reflect a 60$ meal. read more

We had an "ok" experience. Nothing wrong but nothing spectacular. We both ordered combination plates. Mine had a chili relleno and a chicken burrito. I thought the burrito was fine but the chili relleno was watery possibly frozen or at least not freshly made. My wife's combo also had the chili relleno but she opted for a crispy taco. She thought the same about the relleno but enjoyed the taco. Again, nothing terrible about the food or service, just nothing outrageous. Worst Mexican restaurant ever been too. Went there last pm for dinner around 7pm. Took 1/2 hour for the cold food . It was re warmed and the enchiladas were hard and soft . Cream sauce had NO flavor . Waitress apologized bringing us as free desert . She did speak with mgr who never came by to apologize reflecting a non caring attitude . A family favorite stop on outing drive home from bako. Prices are great. Licuados are amazing. Everything from burritos and tacos are great. Very friendly staff. We even had them cater our kid's birthday food a couple years ago. Plenty of parking. Most days there's a fruit vendor out front. Kids love getting fresh cold coconut water and coconut meat there. I've been coming to Agave for years. Tonight, I was surprised to see the wait staff in such a disgruntled mood. I wasn't greeted with the same smile and welcoming personality. It took a while to put my order in. I think I waited 10-15 mins before I was asked what I wanted to drink. I quickly put my order in as I ordered my drinks because I know that they had other "things to do" besides serve me. My order came out wrong, but I figured that was a simple mistake since my waiter Alexandra didn't write my order down. I wasn't charged anything extra but I honestly felt like I was not wanted in the establishment. I waited for things patiently and at the end, I asked for my favorite dessert, the fried ice cream!! They pulled it out of the freezer ((no frying) and served it to me with a spoon!! OMGEEEE! I feel so bad over such a weird/careless interaction. After spending over $60 for just myself....ouch! Regarding Chases' response: You are correct about the time it took AFTER I ordered my drink per your video footage, but I was referring to the time it took to take the order. I never referred to the time it took for my food to arrive after it was ordered. If you kindly review your video footage again, I sat for some time after I finished my meal (I had most of it packaged to go) before given chance to order my favorite dessert and coffee. I'm also accustomed to being asked if there is anything else I'd like before the kitchen closed. This was never conveyed to me either. Upon finally ordering, I was told that the kitchen had closed but that maybe there was a chance to still get a fried Icecream. I was aware at that time of my bleak possibility of getting dessert after waiting for some time to order. As she was leaving, I told her that I'd be fine with only having the Icecream portion (not the fried tostada and etc.) to eat quickly (Coffee was out of the question at that point). This was not an unusual request because I have made it many times before on many previous visits and have received a deepfried Icecream without the extra presentations. I am also aware of the price I usually pay however, my point with the purchase was only that I was having a large priced meal and wasn't receiving half of the service, regarding timing, that I was accustomed to. This is intended more of a compliment of previous visits and doesn't need to be used to make me feel less of a patron to your business. A simple apology would've sufficed. read more

Conveniently located along route 66 just east of the downtown Flagstaff area. I went in on Sunday for dinner with my husband, and we're seated right away and their colorful decorated dining room. It is a very casual and comfortable atmosphere, and our server came right away and greeted us with a basket of chips and salsa. The menu has so many choices; if I didn't know Me I am good we'll, this would be a problem, but no! I love Mexican food, and I chose Enchiladas Verdes. Excellent food, excellent service! I had the Cameroni's chipotle shrimp, which was out of this world, and we also had the guacamole which was very good & I am fussy about my guacamole. The margaritas were delicious. Our waitress was pleasant, and when I asked her between 2 choices I was considering she recommended the shrimp and I am very happy she did. This place is a must visit.
