Best Mexican food in Flagstaff hands down! The first time we went here, we almost left and went somewhere else just because of how the outside looked. I will forever be thankful that we decided to go in as we have been here five times now every time they knock it completely out of the park. The menus are huge with endless selections. You will literally get stronger just picking the menu up and down. Every single thing that we have ate here has been incredible. If you like good Mexican food, then you can thank us later. From the moment we walked in, we knew this was going to be a good experience. The atmosphere's fun, the staff is friendly, the margarita was worth the visit and the food was delicious. I had the fish burrito and it was huge, probably could have fed three people. I'm not sure what the sauce was on top of it, but it should go on everything! read more

For some reason the owner replied to my review and claimed that they were not the restaurant I meant to write a review about. That's odd because in the review I included a picture of myself in the restaurant. You'd think the owner would recognize his own place. I'm very well aware that you guys are located in Flagstaff, we were there. Came for dinner on New Years Day and was immediately welcomed warmly by the great staff and charming atmosphere! Our server recommended the Enchiladas Poblanas and I can't thank him enough for that- they were absolutely delicious, and he even let me try the sauce before ordering! We also got the Quesa Birria appetizer- OMG, cannot recommend enough, it was AWESOME. We will definitely be back! read more

What a wonderful dining experience !! We started by making a reservation, it was a Friday evening. The restaurant was very busy. We were greeted and seated immediately! The decor is lovely! Unfortunately, Shift became one I'll never forget for the wrong reasons. Our day couldn't have been further from what the staff assumed. We spent the morning hiking, went back to rest, explored a local bookstore, grabbed ice cream, and walked to our dinner reservation. Not one alcoholic drink had been consumed by anyone in our group the entire day. Not one. We also had a child with us. The only conversation we had with the host before being seated was asking whether it was okay that we had arrived about twenty minutes early for our reservation. We were polite, excited, and looking forward to dinner. Then my husband ordered a beer. The waitress immediately refused because she claimed the hostess believed my husbands speech and mannerisms meant he was intoxicated. Read that again. A guest who had consumed zero alcohol all day was judged to be intoxicated. I understand the responsibility restaurants have. If someone is genuinely impaired, absolutely don't serve them. Every responsible restaurant should protect its guests and its liquor license. But there is an equally important responsibility that seems to have been forgotten: making sure your judgment is actually right before labeling someone. There was no bar crawl. No cocktails beforehand. No wine tasting. No brewery stop. No hidden drinks. There wasn't even one drink. We left feeling embarrassed, confused, and honestly caught off guard. Not because a beer was refused, but because a person was reduced to an assumption based solely on how they naturally presented themselves. Here's what makes the experience even harder to understand. After leaving Shift, we walked to Atria, where we remained for approximately two hours. We talked, enjoyed ourselves, and spent the evening there without issue. If someone in our party had truly been intoxicated wouldn't that have been obvious there as well? It wasn't. Food can be good. Cocktails can be creative. Service can be polished. None of that matters if hospitality disappears the moment someone doesn't fit your expectation of what a guest "should" look or sound like. Maybe perhaps because we weren't locals we seemed off ? To anyone considering Shift, especially if you're traveling with someone whose speech, mannerisms, or disability could be misunderstood, know that this was our experience. I hope the restaurant reflects on what happened and asks itself a difficult question: How many guests have we mistaken for being intoxicated when, in reality, they simply communicated differently? Because that's not just a missed beer. That's a missed opportunity to treat someone with dignity. I came to Flagstaff excited to discover one of its most " creative" restaurants. Instead, I left wondering how quickly a restaurant built on hospitality could make a guest feel so unwelcome. Simply , because my husband is a restaurant manager in Las Vegas, who has managed restaurants like Yellowtail, Herbs&Rye, Gjelina, and Edo we left out of respect for the industry. However, we should have got our deposit automatically refunded. Next time, take the time. Take the time to care. If a staff member is under this assumption, management intervene not to just follow said assumption and repeat what she said, but to hold an actual conversation with your guest, to evaluate , to observe, to understand. I promise you, that would change so many things for you.

Sometimes when you get takeout from a restaurant you end up getting less food than when you actually eat there. Not here! it was a healthy portion. Five stars doesn't quite cover this one. I grew up in Tucson, and one of the things I've missed most since moving to Flagstaff nearly ten years ago is the Mexican food. If you know Tucson, you know what I mean. Tucson is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy for a reason. I've also been fortunate enough to travel to Mexico several times, and some of my favorite memories there revolve around the food, the people, and the incredible hospitality. Tonight, Los Tapatíos reminded me of all of it. I was already familiar with their food, and I'd heard good things long before tonight. Someone I've worked alongside in this industry for nearly ten years has always spoken highly not only of the food, but of the people behind this restaurant. Tonight I finally understood exactly what he meant. I ordered takeout online and stopped in to pick it up. That was it. I wasn't dining in, wasn't celebrating anything, and had never even walked through their doors before. The gentleman who greeted me at the front changed the entire experience. Within seconds, he made me feel genuinely welcome. We talked for a couple of minutes, joked about my car, laughed, and somehow this man who had never met me made me feel less like someone picking up an order and more like someone he was genuinely happy had walked through his door. I've worked in high-end food and beverage for longer than I'd like to admit. Hospitality isn't simply something I pay attention to. It's something I teach, coach, expect, and work every day to create. I've spent years trying to help others understand that genuine hospitality goes far beyond good service. So when I experience the real thing, I recognize it. What happened tonight was one of the simplest, purest, and best examples of hospitality I've experienced. Warm welcome. Genuine conversation. A handshake when I left. Eye contact. A sincere thank you. No script. No performance. Just hospitality. And then I got home and ate the food. Wow. This is the Mexican food I've been missing. It reminds me of Tucson. It reminds me of meals I've had in Mexico. It reminds me of home in that strange, wonderful way where every bite makes me a little happier and a little more homesick at the same time. The food is absolutely on point, but tonight gave me something more than another great meal. Los Tapatíos didn't gain a customer tonight. They already had one. What they gained was an advocate. There's a difference. I've enjoyed their food before. Now I'm going to be one of the people telling others about it. I'm going to recommend this restaurant, bring people here, and root for these folks because great independent restaurants deserve more than customers. They deserve people in their corner. And after tonight, I'm firmly in theirs. To the gentleman who welcomed me at the door: thank you. From one hospitality person to another, what you did in those couple of minutes mattered more than you probably realized. You reminded me exactly what this business is supposed to be about. Great food can bring someone through the door. Hospitality makes them want to bring others back with them. Flagstaff, this is one of those places. I'll be back.
