Finally made the visit out here! This restaurant is closing in July, so visit while you can! I definitely recommend a reservation. They do get tough to make but while I was waiting to be seated, I saw a few people put their name down and the wait time was hours (for lunch) The location is small a quaint, hence the small amount of reservation. I believe it seats about 23 if memory serves me correctly. We came by after a run and were VERY glad there's AC inside. We ordered the breakfast plate, tuna melt and potato pancake. Food came pretty quickly. Our seats had a great view of the staff working in the kitchen. The potato pancake was very crunch and tasteful, a bit on the salty side but paired well with the breakfast plate. Tuna melt was the main event, and it was as creamy as I imagined. I heard they were out after we ordered but the chef provided another 5 orders. I'd definitely try to visit before they close. They're going to relocate but no timeline on when or where! read more

I was so sad when I heard this place was closing soon so I knew I had to go back one last time (haven't gone in a few years since it's always so busy and difficult to get reservations). Took the opportunity to try some of their old classics I haven't had before, like the candied grapefruit, tuna melt, and cheesecake. The candied grapefruit was really unique; quite messy to eat as the grapefruit was really juicy (tbf I was probably not eating it the right way either). Never ordered the tuna melt before as I'm generally not a fan of tuna melts, but now I'm wondering if it's just because I haven't had a good one before. It was so herby, the bread was perfectly toasted, and the mustard cut through the heaviness perfectly. I was getting really full at this point but I had to try the cheesecake, which was absolutely exquisite-- just so decadent and smooth and creamy with the perfect buttery crust. It's exactly how I imagine the cheesecake in Friends would've tasted like (with added blueberries on top) and I'm kicking myself for not having tried it sooner. They have very limited quantity of the cheesecake every day so I do recommend ordering it up front (unfortunately this also means they don't allow you to order it to go). Peaked. Everything was amazing. We got the Tuna Melt, Palacsinta, and Potato Rösti. The flavors were truly perfection. None of it was too oily, too sweet, or too salty. I saved Agi's Counter months before my trip, because I knew I had to give this place a try. This was my first time trying Hungarian food and I was so excited! The food and service did not disappoint at all. We got the tuna melt and the Palacsinta. The tuna melt was warm, buttery, and cheddar-y, and had such a great bite to it. Easily my favorite on the menu! The Palacsinta was an elevated crepe with the most intentionally curated fillings. It was the perfect pairing to the tuna melt. I love the quaint little shop vibes, but it actually is quite spacious. There is good floor and bar seating, but it gives such a homey feeling. We came on a Thursday and it was around lunch time. Plenty of time before close. It's in the same spot that I used to visit "Butter and Scotch". What a complete makeover. Lovely service and good food to boot! My pastor used to say his favorite place in the US was Brooklyn, and I can see why if everywhere in Brooklyn was as welcoming and warm as the employees in Agi's Counter. I got some Hungarian pancakes/pancakes with black pepper. It made me wish that I came here for brunch instead of for dinner. Alas, my visit to Agi's was on my last night in NYC. The rest of the food was excellent too. The interior is comfortably dark, and the bathroom was well-stocked with toiletries. After seeing that Agi's counter was struggling and hearing all the rave reviews about the food, I knew the next step was to come in and try it for myself. The food here is thoughtful, intentional, and incredibly well made. Everything was flavorful and really had that comforting feeling as though your family member made it for you with love. We ordered the crepes, the deviled eggs, the confit tuna sandwich. The nokedli soup, and two lattes. Everything was divine! The soup is perfect to start with and pair with the tuna sandwich. It's dill forward and the little dumplings melt in your mouth. The Tuna sandwich is clearly a heavy hitter. It was buttery, moist, crunchy, and hit all the savory notes with a hint of sweetness. However, the deviled eggs had me speechless. To make something that simple and elevate it to what they served. I was floored and could have eaten a tray. The service here is also really special. We had the sweetest waitress and it felt like she was an old friend the way she spoke with us. She was attentive and quick with suggestions. The chef and owner also came to our table with our order. Attention to detail and being personable really is where this restaurant stands out. We had the Green Devils (deviled eggs) which come in 2. I believe the green comes from the addition of the pickle and sauce. Surprisingly (?) there isn't an overwhelming pickle flavor. Personally, I enjoyed that. Yolks were whipped to perfection. Very yummy and light appetizer.    The McAgi Hashbrown... God bless that potato. The sauce it comes with is the most perfect addition and if you want to spice it up, they do offer a chili oil for $1. The spicy of that oil + the cool of the sauce is a match made in heaven.    Lastly, we came because I wanted a traditional American-type breakfast. Bacon and eggs. Szalonna & Eggs is the Eastern European take on that. Eggs are sunny side up/over easy. Comes with buttered cabbage and tomatoes. My friends don't eat meat and even to them, this bacon looked divine. Thick cut and fatty (beware if that's not your thing). It's such a rich dish. Although the cabbage and tomatoes are minimally seasoned, I do think they played an important part in the overall dish as they provided some sort of relief from the flavorful and rich proteins.   Amazing time. One of my favorite neighborhood spots. Love the breakfast/brunch, but dinner there is delicious, too. Sad that they don't have their biscuit egg sandwich right now, but the bologna sandwich with a fried egg on top was delicious. Get their hot sauce for sure! This place gets really crowded for brunch on weekends--but we showed up ten minutes to ten and were first in line. We've brought out of town friends here and they've all loved it. This isn't a great spot for vegetarians, though, nor for kids who are picky eaters. I've heard a lot of hype about the tuna melt and while it was good, I think it might have been a little bit overhyped. Friday night with two friends for dinner and "the best cheesecake in NY". We decided to have a regressive dinner and start with dessert first. The Cheesecake was impressive, thick, creamy and the blueberries were jumbo and the perfect compliment. We then split the Chard special, a thick portion with nuts and a lemon sauce. We paired that with Lamb wrapped in cabbage. That was tasty but I thought the lamb would be seared not steamed or boiled. We finished with an app, Chicken Liver mousse with cherries. Where the cake had been thick, this was loose and watery, a real disappointment. And the bread it came with was great but thicker than a doorstop. Would have been better if half as thick and toasted. After trying this place for a quick dinner, I knew I had to come back for breakfast. So glad I was able to make a reservation as I've been eyeing breakfast here for a while and it's literally ALWAYS booked. For good reason. We started out with a teas and coffee and were served in the cutest cups felt like grandmas house. (Cannot forget to mention the grandma chic decor. Big fan.) Ordered a few things to split between the 2 of us and I thought it would be too much but the plates aren't that big and ordering a few is recommended as everything is insane. We ordered the Country Club Plate, Palacsinta crepes, Spanikopita Babka with an added egg, Hash Brown and the Pogacsa biscuit sandwich. Allllll were excellent. Wish I could choose a favorite but I can only say the crepes I wish had a touch more of sweetness I think they changed the original ones for a fall special and they were lacking in that area. Next time I want to try the sugared grapefruit which are probably sweeter than the crepes. Saw a table next to us order them, they looked incredible. The waitress also mentioned they were her favorite and the most underrated thing on the menu. Service is awesome. So I found out about this place via my partner, he took me for brunch. I had no idea this place existed but I was pleasantly surprised. Cute Quaint restaurant off of Empire Blvd that reminds me of walking into someone's grandmothers dining room. We opted for the bar counter since we didn't have any reservations but I personally think it's the best seat in the house. I wasn't particularly adventurous this time around when it comes to the menu. We got the bologne and tuna sandwhich with the crepes and devils to share. Both sandwiches were pretty good but surpisingly expensive, about 20 bucks each. I love deviled eggs but wasn't a fan of these. It was sitting in some sort of dill oil but it tasted dull? The tuna melt was very rich and buttery and lovely the first few bites. The richness can get to you. The pickles and slaw do help to counter the fat. The hash brown was nice and crispy. We did our best to try as much of the menu as we could at Agi's Counter and we did not go away hungry or at all disappointed. Everything was tasty with that feeling of home cooking yet also elevated. We enjoyed the deviled eggs which were light and fluffy as was the liver mousse with the delicious addition of cherries on the top. The dip and chips was not only delicious and beautifully plated but also came with some great chips. The Borscht was earthy and tasty and, of course, a glorious magenta. I've previously went to this location a few months ago and came back to try the same menu items which are still spot on to the first time I had it. This restaurant takes inspiration from Hungarian and Austrian cuisine to bring forth a flavorful interpretation in a variety of dishes. I tried their Agi Hashbrown with Trout Roe [+additional charge], Palacsinta (Hungarian Crepes), and Pogacsa (Biscuit). Each dish on its own was delicious and when combined it offers a balance of sweet with savory. So I recommend ordering an array of dishes with different taste profile to combine while eating. This place gets packed and booked with reservations but they do allow walk-ins if you come early and only seats available based on my experience are the window or bar seats. The decor of this restaurant is very chill, laid back but very modern and sleek with a shelf of books, novelty items, and collector items. Plus when you order black coffee, they'll offer it in a novelty cup which varies from travel destination or decorative ones. Do make a reservation if you really want to try their menu or wake up super early to get a seat. I have only been here once so this is based on the experience we had. The tuna melt was really lovely- a nice twist on a classic. My partner has the biscuit and said it was "fine." We both shared the cookie and agreed the flavors didn't work and was also dry in the middle. They didn't have decaf coffee and they add 5% living wage charge on the check, which I firmly believe the owner should be paying for as most guests will automatically tip 20% if everything goes well.
