Peaked. Everything was amazing. We got the Tuna Melt, Palacsinta, and Potato Rösti. The flavors were truly perfection. None of it was too oily, too sweet, or too salty. The crunch and texture were perfect. The pear melted beautifully. Oh my gah, I can't even figure out the right words to describe it all. You just need to go and try it for yourself. Amazing staff and cute designs as well. I'll be back to try more items on the menu.

Eastern european/hungarian inspired cafe --------------------------------- Food: we saw a lot of reviews about the tuna melt, grapefruit and crepes so that's what we ordered and it did not disappoint! As someone who doesn't really like tuna, I really liked the tuna melt. It was so fresh with herbs/flavor. The caramelized grapefruit was also very unique, but a bit difficult to eat without squirting grapefruit juices. The Palacsinta (hungarian crepes) were so good, they were filled with a whole pear and you could really taste the star anise/spices Recommendations: confit tuna melt, palacsinta (hungarian crepes) Affordability: okay for nyc standards Ambiance: cute olive green light pink aesthetic, warm and cozy Service: great! Good for: unique flavors, casual lunch

I saved Agi's Counter months before my trip, because I knew I had to give this place a try. This was my first time trying Hungarian food and I was so excited! The food and service did not disappoint at all. We got the tuna melt and the Palacsinta. The tuna melt was warm, buttery, and cheddar-y, and had such a great bite to it. Easily my favorite on the menu! The Palacsinta was an elevated crepe with the most intentionally curated fillings. It was the perfect pairing to the tuna melt. I love the quaint little shop vibes, but it actually is quite spacious. There is good floor and bar seating, but it gives such a homey feeling. If you're ever in the area, Agi's Counter is a solid spot to stop by!

We came on a Thursday and it was around lunch time. Plenty of time before close. It's in the same spot that I used to visit "Butter and Scotch". What a complete makeover. I love the Hungarian café, rustic and almost cottage vibes feel. I felt like I could spend the night. And with the food I tried, I definitely would over stay my welcome. My boyfriend and I are addicted to cappuccinos since we went to Europe. We started with some of those while we looked over the menu. I knew I wanted to try the tuna melt. I heard so many good things. Then I have recently become obsessed with a perfectly dressed and seasoned Caesar Salad. I can't get enough. The place got packed while were there. The staff was modest but the seating was spread out. I like how you could sit outside, at small tables, at the counter or sit in the back in more cozy sit down scenery. We picked the back. It was a bit close to the bathroom but it was fine. The waitress was running on caffeine. We got our drinks. When the Caesar arrived, it exceeded expectation. I love the toasted bread crumb and the lovely colorful leaves with the perfect amount of dressing. Oof! Makes me want another round already. Then the stunning tuna melts arrived. They looked a little petite but don't be fooled. They were so filling. Loved the buttery bread and the cheesy tuna. Also big bonus for the pickly accoutrements. I loved the dishware. Everything at the restaurant was so cute. I even loved how they set up the bathroom. It had a nice art and a candle burning. I told everyone to come here!

Lovely service and good food to boot! My pastor used to say his favorite place in the US was Brooklyn, and I can see why if everywhere in Brooklyn was as welcoming and warm as the employees in Agi's Counter. I got some Hungarian pancakes/pancakes with black pepper. It made me wish that I came here for brunch instead of for dinner. Alas, my visit to Agi's was on my last night in NYC. The rest of the food was excellent too. The interior is comfortably dark, and the bathroom was well-stocked with toiletries. I felt comfortable and accepted here unlike almost all the other restaurants I went to at Manhattan during my trip.

After seeing that Agi's counter was struggling and hearing all the rave reviews about the food, I knew the next step was to come in and try it for myself. The food here is thoughtful, intentional, and incredibly well made. Everything was flavorful and really had that comforting feeling as though your family member made it for you with love. We ordered the crepes, the deviled eggs, the confit tuna sandwich. The nokedli soup, and two lattes. Everything was divine! The soup is perfect to start with and pair with the tuna sandwich. It's dill forward and the little dumplings melt in your mouth. The Tuna sandwich is clearly a heavy hitter. It was buttery, moist, crunchy, and hit all the savory notes with a hint of sweetness. However, the deviled eggs had me speechless. To make something that simple and elevate it to what they served. I was floored and could have eaten a tray. The service here is also really special. We had the sweetest waitress and it felt like she was an old friend the way she spoke with us. She was attentive and quick with suggestions. The chef and owner also came to our table with our order. Attention to detail and being personable really is where this restaurant stands out. The ambiance was small but cozy and inviting. 10/10 recommend everyone to come by - I know I'll be back.

I feel inclined to start off with the fact that the staff is amazing. There happened to be a parade going on outside and our server was having a time! She was dancing along with the music, keeping the energy up and doing her job great. I loved it!    They don't offer any breakfast alcoholic bevvies from what I saw and that's a shame. Wish they did. In place, I got their orange juice which was good, but came in a comically small glass. Please give more.    In terms of food - where do I begin? Outstanding. We had the Green Devils (deviled eggs) which come in 2. I believe the green comes from the addition of the pickle and sauce. Surprisingly (?) there isn't an overwhelming pickle flavor. Personally, I enjoyed that. Yolks were whipped to perfection. Very yummy and light appetizer.    The McAgi Hashbrown... God bless that potato. The sauce it comes with is the most perfect addition and if you want to spice it up, they do offer a chili oil for $1. The spicy of that oil + the cool of the sauce is a match made in heaven.    Lastly, we came because I wanted a traditional American-type breakfast. Bacon and eggs. Szalonna & Eggs is the Eastern European take on that. Eggs are sunny side up/over easy. Comes with buttered cabbage and tomatoes. My friends don't eat meat and even to them, this bacon looked divine. Thick cut and fatty (beware if that's not your thing). It's such a rich dish. Although the cabbage and tomatoes are minimally seasoned, I do think they played an important part in the overall dish as they provided some sort of relief from the flavorful and rich proteins.   Amazing time. I will be back to order the exact same things, haha.

Tuna Melt, hashbrown with trout roe, Palacsinta
    Gab G.

Made a reservation for lunch on a Saturday (definitely recommend this, as the place was packed). My boyfriend and I ordered the tuna melt, palacsinta (Hungarian crepes) and hashbrown with trout roe. Sandwich and hashbrown were both perfect. The dill on the tuna melt... and the pickles... unreal. Crepes were also excellent. Ideal restaurant.

Small local eatery in Brooklyn. Intimate atmosphere with the dim lighting and limited seating. Recommend that you make a reservation. Really friendly staff that is knowledgeable about the menu. Food and wine were both delicious. I ordered the dinner special, the wild boar with berry reduction sauce. The wassermann franc red wine paired well with the main. To share, we had the summer squash. And my friend ordered the confit tuna melt. Very delicious and nicely toasted on the bread. A bit pricey of a dinner for two, but definitely a worthwhile experience.

Great brunch spot for one or two. Very limited seating. Breakfast sandwich with bacon was delicious, a bit crumbly. Dessert crepes with pistachios was the perfect dish to round out the meal.

    Bologna sandwich with fried egg
    Alvina L.

One of my favorite neighborhood spots. Love the breakfast/brunch, but dinner there is delicious, too. Sad that they don't have their biscuit egg sandwich right now, but the bologna sandwich with a fried egg on top was delicious. Get their hot sauce for sure! This place gets really crowded for brunch on weekends--but we showed up ten minutes to ten and were first in line. We've brought out of town friends here and they've all loved it. This isn't a great spot for vegetarians, though, nor for kids who are picky eaters. As per their name, most of their seating is counter seating so if you want a table try to get a reservation.

Came back to Agi's today to try their brunch! Everything was good; however, I definitely preferred their dinner menu. I didn't have a reservation this time, but only had to wait about 25 minutes. We got the Schnitzel Sandwich, chicken soup and the tuna melt. The Schnitzel Sandwich was today star and would definitely rate it a 10 out of 10. I've heard a lot of hype about the tuna melt and while it was good, I think it might have been a little bit overhyped. We also got the cheesecake to go, which was really tasty, but a bit pricey ($14). Overall enjoyed the experience but next time I go will probably be for dinner.

It was bright and sunny, so the area was a tad hot, but we made do with a bunch of us, including me, getting a beer or soda to deal with the heat. The service was friendly and helpful with those who weren't sure what they wanted, I went with a special, which is only available from Friday to Sunday during the summer. This was the Harvest Grill Bowl, which came with six pan-fried pierogi of my choice served with grilled Polish kielbasa, roasted yellow/green squash, roasted corn, red pepper, caramelized onion, garlic, and rosemary. The price, which ranged from $16 to $20, depended on which pierogi were used, with the meat ones being more. I asked if I could do half and half like on the regular menu, and that was fine, so it was $18, I believe. My first choice was the recommended Pierogi Tatarskie along with the Sauerkraut and Mushroom. The former was filled with potatoes, eggs, dill, and scallions and garnished with sizzling bacon, while the latter was filled with sauerkraut & mushroom and topped with caramelized onions. Both of them were tasty with a good texture, and I had a slight preference towards the latter pieróg, which was earthy but also tasted meaty, as is pretty typical for the mix. The former was good, though I do wish there was a stronger dill and scallion flavor. Outside of the pierogi, the kielbasa added some smokiness, while the rest added some sweetness, earthiness, and other flavors. I liked the addition of the pickle in there for an extra flavor. Overall, it was very filling and delicious, and I would highly recommend it. Not much else to say here. Good spot, at least from what I tried. The mustard and spread that is included with it only adds to the experience. I also changed it up this time and got a Wiener Schnitzel instead of a sausage. Though they use pork instead of veal, pork is an acceptable substitute. It tastes great, easy and fluffy, and the cucumber salad is a welcome addition. The cranberries? Well, that is up to you to decide. I think it is just *okay*, but to others it is not something that is needed. For dessert I got two, the Apple Strudel and the Linzer tart. No, the latter is not the cookie. Rather it is like a cake, or a pie, much like the one I had when I was in Switzerland. I thought the latter was better than the former, but only for authenticity sake. Both need the cream for it to be a truly indulgent treat, but next time I will just stick with one and call it a meal. I really wanted to like this pretzel but it is hard to justify $7 for a pretzel I ate in less than two minutes. I get it. This is the kind of pretzel they serve in Germany and Austria, but this had so much of a Manhattan undercurrent that I had to keep thinking in my head why I had to justify the indulgence. This restaurant also serves the Austrian version of a chicken noodle soup. It is kinda bland, and mostly broth. The noodles are nice and soft, and the vegetables bring a mellow texture to the soup, but this is a hard buy in. Now onto the entrees: The Krainerwurst is a smoky and tasty sausage but it is also small, and it is just one link. I really enjoyed the Quark Dumplings, almost like Austria's answer to gnocchi. This is tasty and pillowy. Super delicious. Of course, I got a Wiener Schnitzel to round out the meal. It is puffy and the breading is an easy coating; they also use pork instead of veal, but beggars cannot be choosers. The sides worked well as they helped make the plate less naked. -- There was one dish I was hoping to try, but unfortunately due to my foolishness and a little confusion, I did not order it. That is the Emmental Sausage, a sausage encased in cheese but has enormous flavor. It is very popular in Austria, and it is also known as the Kasekreiner. I guess it was not meant to be. That is okay. I also want to point out the pretty Austrian server I had who made my experience more than just about the food. I never got her name, but she was special to talk to and share my travel experiences with. In the end, I am happy I got to experience this restaurant, but small portions and high prices undo what could have been a real special, memorable treat, pictures or no pictures.
