    Carmelizes grapefruit
    Jean W.

Eastern european/hungarian inspired cafe --------------------------------- Food: we saw a lot of reviews about the tuna melt, grapefruit and crepes so that's what we ordered and it did not disappoint! As someone who doesn't really like tuna, I really liked the tuna melt. It was so fresh with herbs/flavor. The caramelized grapefruit was also very unique, but a bit difficult to eat without squirting grapefruit juices. The Palacsinta (hungarian crepes) were so good, they were filled with a whole pear and you could really taste the star anise/spices Recommendations: confit tuna melt, palacsinta (hungarian crepes) Affordability: okay for nyc standards Ambiance: cute olive green light pink aesthetic, warm and cozy Service: great! Good for: unique flavors, casual lunch

I saved Agi's Counter months before my trip, because I knew I had to give this place a try. This was my first time trying Hungarian food and I was so excited! The food and service did not disappoint at all. We got the tuna melt and the Palacsinta. The tuna melt was warm, buttery, and cheddar-y, and had such a great bite to it. Easily my favorite on the menu! The Palacsinta was an elevated crepe with the most intentionally curated fillings. It was the perfect pairing to the tuna melt. I love the quaint little shop vibes, but it actually is quite spacious. There is good floor and bar seating, but it gives such a homey feeling. If you're ever in the area, Agi's Counter is a solid spot to stop by!

We came on a Thursday and it was around lunch time. Plenty of time before close. It's in the same spot that I used to visit "Butter and Scotch". What a complete makeover. I love the Hungarian café, rustic and almost cottage vibes feel. I felt like I could spend the night. And with the food I tried, I definitely would over stay my welcome. My boyfriend and I are addicted to cappuccinos since we went to Europe. We started with some of those while we looked over the menu. I knew I wanted to try the tuna melt. I heard so many good things. Then I have recently become obsessed with a perfectly dressed and seasoned Caesar Salad. I can't get enough. The place got packed while were there. The staff was modest but the seating was spread out. I like how you could sit outside, at small tables, at the counter or sit in the back in more cozy sit down scenery. We picked the back. It was a bit close to the bathroom but it was fine. The waitress was running on caffeine. We got our drinks. When the Caesar arrived, it exceeded expectation. I love the toasted bread crumb and the lovely colorful leaves with the perfect amount of dressing. Oof! Makes me want another round already. Then the stunning tuna melts arrived. They looked a little petite but don't be fooled. They were so filling. Loved the buttery bread and the cheesy tuna. Also big bonus for the pickly accoutrements. I loved the dishware. Everything at the restaurant was so cute. I even loved how they set up the bathroom. It had a nice art and a candle burning. I told everyone to come here!

Lovely service and good food to boot! My pastor used to say his favorite place in the US was Brooklyn, and I can see why if everywhere in Brooklyn was as welcoming and warm as the employees in Agi's Counter. I got some Hungarian pancakes/pancakes with black pepper. It made me wish that I came here for brunch instead of for dinner. Alas, my visit to Agi's was on my last night in NYC. The rest of the food was excellent too. The interior is comfortably dark, and the bathroom was well-stocked with toiletries. I felt comfortable and accepted here unlike almost all the other restaurants I went to at Manhattan during my trip.

After seeing that Agi's counter was struggling and hearing all the rave reviews about the food, I knew the next step was to come in and try it for myself. The food here is thoughtful, intentional, and incredibly well made. Everything was flavorful and really had that comforting feeling as though your family member made it for you with love. We ordered the crepes, the deviled eggs, the confit tuna sandwich. The nokedli soup, and two lattes. Everything was divine! The soup is perfect to start with and pair with the tuna sandwich. It's dill forward and the little dumplings melt in your mouth. The Tuna sandwich is clearly a heavy hitter. It was buttery, moist, crunchy, and hit all the savory notes with a hint of sweetness. However, the deviled eggs had me speechless. To make something that simple and elevate it to what they served. I was floored and could have eaten a tray. The service here is also really special. We had the sweetest waitress and it felt like she was an old friend the way she spoke with us. She was attentive and quick with suggestions. The chef and owner also came to our table with our order. Attention to detail and being personable really is where this restaurant stands out. The ambiance was small but cozy and inviting. 10/10 recommend everyone to come by - I know I'll be back.

Omg almost 2 hour wait but ingusss wroth it cool to explore neighborhood and the food was really reasonably priced THE SERVERS R THE NICEST PEOPLE EVER And they have outlets in the bar seating. Bathroom is stocked to the max and gorgeous

Great brunch spot for one or two. Very limited seating. Breakfast sandwich with bacon was delicious, a bit crumbly. Dessert crepes with pistachios was the perfect dish to round out the meal.

Came back to Agi's today to try their brunch! Everything was good; however, I definitely preferred their dinner menu. I didn't have a reservation this time, but only had to wait about 25 minutes. We got the Schnitzel Sandwich, chicken soup and the tuna melt. The Schnitzel Sandwich was today star and would definitely rate it a 10 out of 10. I've heard a lot of hype about the tuna melt and while it was good, I think it might have been a little bit overhyped. We also got the cheesecake to go, which was really tasty, but a bit pricey ($14). Overall enjoyed the experience but next time I go will probably be for dinner.

I feel inclined to start off with the fact that the staff is amazing. There happened to be a parade going on outside and our server was having a time! She was dancing along with the music, keeping the energy up and doing her job great. I loved it!    They don't offer any breakfast alcoholic bevvies from what I saw and that's a shame. Wish they did. In place, I got their orange juice which was good, but came in a comically small glass. Please give more.    In terms of food - where do I begin? Outstanding. We had the Green Devils (deviled eggs) which come in 2. I believe the green comes from the addition of the pickle and sauce. Surprisingly (?) there isn't an overwhelming pickle flavor. Personally, I enjoyed that. Yolks were whipped to perfection. Very yummy and light appetizer.    The McAgi Hashbrown... God bless that potato. The sauce it comes with is the most perfect addition and if you want to spice it up, they do offer a chili oil for $1. The spicy of that oil + the cool of the sauce is a match made in heaven.    Lastly, we came because I wanted a traditional American-type breakfast. Bacon and eggs. Szalonna & Eggs is the Eastern European take on that. Eggs are sunny side up/over easy. Comes with buttered cabbage and tomatoes. My friends don't eat meat and even to them, this bacon looked divine. Thick cut and fatty (beware if that's not your thing). It's such a rich dish. Although the cabbage and tomatoes are minimally seasoned, I do think they played an important part in the overall dish as they provided some sort of relief from the flavorful and rich proteins.   Amazing time. I will be back to order the exact same things, haha.

Tuna Melt, hashbrown with trout roe, Palacsinta
    Gab G.

Made a reservation for lunch on a Saturday (definitely recommend this, as the place was packed). My boyfriend and I ordered the tuna melt, palacsinta (Hungarian crepes) and hashbrown with trout roe. Sandwich and hashbrown were both perfect. The dill on the tuna melt... and the pickles... unreal. Crepes were also excellent. Ideal restaurant.

    Wild boar

Small local eatery in Brooklyn. Intimate atmosphere with the dim lighting and limited seating. Recommend that you make a reservation. Really friendly staff that is knowledgeable about the menu. Food and wine were both delicious. I ordered the dinner special, the wild boar with berry reduction sauce. The wassermann franc red wine paired well with the main. To share, we had the summer squash. And my friend ordered the confit tuna melt. Very delicious and nicely toasted on the bread. A bit pricey of a dinner for two, but definitely a worthwhile experience.

    Bologna sandwich with fried egg
    Alvina L.

One of my favorite neighborhood spots. Love the breakfast/brunch, but dinner there is delicious, too. Sad that they don't have their biscuit egg sandwich right now, but the bologna sandwich with a fried egg on top was delicious. Get their hot sauce for sure! This place gets really crowded for brunch on weekends--but we showed up ten minutes to ten and were first in line. We've brought out of town friends here and they've all loved it. This isn't a great spot for vegetarians, though, nor for kids who are picky eaters. As per their name, most of their seating is counter seating so if you want a table try to get a reservation.

    NY Style Cheesecake

Agi's Counter had been on my list of places to visit for some time, and I'm happy I stopped by during a recent NYC visit. I went for a weekday lunch, and I snagged a counter seat. The service was consistently friendly throughout my meal, and the restaurant had a comfortable and welcoming vibe that made me want to return. I ordered the Duran for my entree, and I liked the mix of savory and sweet flavors with the farmer's cheese, jam, and added fried egg on the toasty bread. The cheesecake was a great dessert to end my meal and had a smooth and creamy texture that paired well with the berry compote.

Infamous tuna melt with a fried egg on top.

It's a cute place, nothing fancy but a place you really can come hang out any day of the week. If I lived in the area I could see my myself ending up here any day of the week. I guess that's why when I went with fellow Yelper Sara L she said she has gone many times and wanted to take me since she knew I would enjoy it. The food: Gebackene Champignons- Fried Mushrooms- OK to preface they are kinda plain and boring the first few pieces. But the more I ate it the more I was like wow, these are actually good and kinda addictive. I enjoyed these and I enjoyed they gave a nice big portion. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=wXMnSOv4x6gNG-gHh3t40Q Potato Latkes- These were on the specials page and they were good, nice crunchy and fried well but these were mixed with something since the taste was a bit different and the color wasn't that nice golden brown color you associate with latkes. Goulash- This was a dish George had and honestly, they were amazing. Highly recommend. I thought the flavor but more importantly the texture was amazing. A lot of times when you have slow cooked beef, they could sometimes get stringy and chewy, no not here. Also the spätzle was a really great pairing. Mussels- These were some fat ass mussels. The flavor of them was good, the night I went they were spicyyyyyyy. This was a well made dish and i appreciate their creativeity but I do prefer a simple garlic shallot butter and white wine where I want to drink the broth afterwards. The broth on this was too spicy too drink. Roasted Boneless Pork Chop- Pork chops are always a gamble and the one here was just OK. The sauce it came in was nice, kind on the heavy side but a delcious cream sauce. The pork was cut super thin and unfortunely they came out dry and chewy. The fries were a nice shoestring fry which were nice and crunchy. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=14_-Katrn9Glu-wA65-CHg
