Great little cantina by the waterfront in the redeveloped area of the Navy Yard. There is still lots of construction and therefore limited parking, but there are garages available for a fee. The food was pretty good, but it would be the most ideal for a cocktail and happy hour spot rather than full dinner. Our service was excellent despite being very busy. They only have two restrooms stalls (both unisex), which is not nearly enough for a bar/restaurant combo and makes for a constant wait at the bathroom. read more

The food was okay, not what I expected. It was brunch so maybe it is better for lunch/dinner. The scenery is awesome though as it is by the water. I ordered bacon, eggs, and crab-cake. HAPPY HOUR I stopped by here with a friend for happy hour fare before an event on the fairgrounds. It was a nice, lively bar with a cool atmosphere, but the bit of food and drinks left a lot to be desired. I use happy hour as a precursor to dining. I decided that I wouldn't want to dine here. I absolutely love tortilla chips. They seem standard and generic and I will eat almost anyone's. These, however, tasted like reduced fat tortilla chips. SIGH. I had the peach frozen margarita/sangria?? EHH. I tasted some appetizer my friend had. BLEH. Agua 301 is a Modern Mexican themed restaurant in the Navy Yard neighborhood of Washington, DC. They offer outside seating with a view of the Anacostia River! How awesome is that? Not only do you get a great view, the price point is good and you don't have to break the bank. Because I'm a mom, I love places that I can go to have a glass of wine or cocktail, but also have a kids menu and a way to entertain my kid. This restaurant totally nails it! I made reservations for 3, myself, the husband and the kid for a Monday evening. We parked at the parking lot across the street for just a few bucks to avoid looking for street parking. When we arrived the hostess offered us the choice of sitting inside or outside, of course we set outside. It was perfect for the kid as he got to get up and play a bit.  The service was pretty good. It did take the waiter a bit long to bring the kids menu, but he provided really good service other than that. After taking our drink orders, he provided the table with chips and salsa. The kid and I enjoyed them but my husband didn't like the salsa. For drinks- my husband had a beer anf I had the frozen peach sangria! Just get it, you won't be disappointed!  For dinner-  $6.95 kids meals! The kid ordered fish and chips! Wow! The fish was extremely fresh! Chicken Huarache $12- pretty much a Mexican pizza made on a corn flatbread. My husband enjoyed it. Baja fish taco $7- I mean, it is Taco Tuesday! Again, the fish was super fresh and you get two per order.  I can't wait to go back again, this time for Happy Hour. It's everyday 3:30-7 and 9pm until close. My review may be a little different from other reviewers, and that I only ate at the bar on a Saturday at 2:30 p.m. rather than any other normal hot time, like dinner on a Friday night. I have to say though, I'm not sure where all of the negativity is coming from in regards to this restaurant. The bar as you can see for my picture is fully stocked with excellent tequilas, and what impressed me is that their bottom shelf is what most bars would consider middle shelf liquor. The salsa needed a little bit of work, so I asked had some extra cilantro- it seemed to work out perfectly after that. The drinks were on point, & I have to say the food was remarkably good considering the low price points of each dish. I got the carne asada with kimchi, but asked for the kimchi to be kept on the side. My brother got the pork tacos. Both are excellent, so I'm not sure where all of the negativity for this restaurant is receiving is coming from. In the end though like I said I came to this restaurant and sat in the bar area on a Saturday between lunch and dinner, not in the regular area on a Friday or Saturday night. With that in mind, we make it a point to go to every new Mexican restaurant that opens up and were pumped to find Agua 301 so close to our house and in one of the most up and coming neighborhoods in DC- Navy Yard. The chips and salsa were good so we had high expectations for the food. We ordered the carne asada kimchi taco platter and loved it! It comes with two small tacos and a small bowl of rice and another bowl of beans. It tasted great, but it definitely does not fill you up so make sure you order a lot of chips and salsa. read more

I have mixed feelings about Agua 301. This place is a bit hard to find; it's facing away from the street so you have to walk around. Drinks are great! Service was fine. The food is pretty good, although there were some discrepancies with what it lists on the menu and what is actually served. For instance, the steak tacos with kimchi didn't seem to come with anything resembling kimchi, and the pork belly tacos (while very delicious) came with habanero salsa that had suspiciously no spiciness and no habaneros that I could make out. Having moved to NavyYard a month ago, I'm slowly but surely checking out all of the spots. Discovering Agua 301's happy hour was a very nice find! First off, their happy hour is from 3 PM - 7 PM. Can we say, never-ending happiness, food, and bevies?! Their happy hour menu is legit with many options for food and drink all at great prices. Personally, I'm a big fan of the Bell's Oberon and multiple taco options. I definitely suggest checking out Agua's happy hour if you're in the area. Four stars were given, because their bartenders could be friendlier. (NOTE: I might be too friendly for east coasters. Haha!) read more

Taco Tuesday was in full effect. I actually came here unexpectedly. I was visiting a friend and they forgot they made plans with another friend to link up for dinner. Friend: "Hey! Are you down to get $3 tacos?" ME: *offended, appalled, shocked!!! How could my friend not know me? One...I love to eat; Two.. I LOVE TACOS, Three: $3 Tacos? I'm more than down. We made the short walk to the restaurant and waited a bit for the hostess to finish a customer phone call. All employees were wearing masks and there were plexiglass dividers between tables. I felt completely safe. Chips and salsa were served which is a plus I just wish the chips were salted. The three of us ordered drinks (2 margaritas and a Corona) which took a bit to get to the table (7 minutes). The $3 taco choices were great. I was happy to see I wasn't limited to only one or two choices. I ordered my tacos and they were delivered to the table relatively quickly. The tacos were just ok for me. I wish they had more flavor/seasoning. My favorite taco was probably the fried fish taco which is funny because I'm not a fish fan. I love seafood, but fish can take a backseat. I give this place 3 stars for the wait and lack of seasoning of the tacos. I'll definitely come back to enjoy $3 tacos but will ask for a side of salt or other seasonings on the side. read more

My wife and I have been coming for years. But today, the service was so bad we will never come back. When we arrived we waited for 10 minutes after sitting before menus and water. Had to later ask for silverware since the hostess had not provided. After ordering and waiting for nearly 30 minutes, and multiple apologies that said our food would be out in "2 minutes,"our toddler's food came... but the rest is a no show. We waited over 30 minutes more before asking multiple staff to cancel since our waiter was nowhere to be seen. He said he would notify the owner and cancel the order. We expected to only be charged for the food we received as expected for our toddler. He then came to us and said they were just going to throw away the food could they box it and give it to us -- we said yes. By this point our toddlers patience is totally gone. We later get the food in boxes with the bill. We were still charged the full bill and had the food as takeout after well over an hour of simply waiting for food. But we didn't have the ability to argue any more because of our time crunch so paid the full bill. It will be the last time we ever visit and will never recommend to others. read more

We came to Agua 301 while my in-laws were in town. We were very pleased with the prices, and everyone enjoyed their food, except my MIL. This was more her fault, though, than the chef's as she ordered something a little out of the box for her and ultimately didn't like the flavor of the meat. Had she gone more in her comfort zone, though, this meal would've been a home run for all of us. Nachos weren't listed on the menu, but we were able to order regardless and would recommend. We also had the crab guacamole and it was INCREDIBLE. I literally licked the bowl! The service was sub par, and for no real reason. We were some of the only guests in the establishment so I would've hoped for some more attentiveness. All in all, though, we live right up the street and will 100% visit again! read more

Just got back from Aqua 301 and wanted to share a quick review and pictures with you. Right now since everyone is eager to get "back to life" reservations are required to eat here (indoors/out). We started off a little rocky because I called and was told that they were booked for the inside tables but I could wait for an outside table. This is not true, but since someone (staff) gave us the wrong information, we were seated by management. Our waitress was very pleasant and eager to take our order. Regular menus were placed on the table, I had to ask for the happy hour menu. Our waitress informed us only happy hour drinks are available on the weekends, food available Monday- Friday. I ordered and strawberry margarita and my friend ordered a sangria, both very tasty. I ordered the tacos (3) dinner (includes rice and beans). I wanted some variety, so I ordered chicken, fish, and shrimp. The fish taco was the best. Please be careful because they can be messy. We enjoyed our food and was in/out in a little over a hour. I will visit again probably just during the week so I can enjoy the happy hour (food & drink). The taco dinner was $16.00, not bad. The strawberry margarita off happy hour menu was $6.00. Parking is bonkers, you may want to catch a few Uber or Lyft. Atmosphere is beautiful, nice girl's or date night place. read more

Agua 301 is one of my favorite pre- and post-Nats game venues? Why? Because the view of the Anacostia is absolutely amazing and the drinks are OK. The food, other than chips and salsa, is ... meh. I've been here numerous times, for brunch, lunch, dinner and drinks -- all with the same mixed feelings about this place. I'd love to see Agua shine and thrive but the food quality and selections need a real improvement to survive in the ever increasingly competitive Yards Park. On my last list visit, for brunch, we ordered queso with our chips and received some gelatanous orange, greasy goo with three strips of bacon randomly stuck in the middle. We each took a bite and that was all we had of the queso. Hard to believe that a restaurant could screw up such an easy accompaniment to nacho chips. The benefits of Agua include it's spectacular view, proximity to Nats park and the drinks. The frozen peach margarita is incredible and the ... Brazillian drink.. Caipirinha is really delicious. Service seems to be spotty. Agua, I will continue to come back because I love your view and your outdoor seating, in fact, that's why you got three stars but I sure want you to thrive an offer fare that is worthy of the space you occupy in the Yards. read more

Agua 301 is SO GOOD for brunch. We honestly had the best time here yesterday. We came for brunch around 12:15 and the place filled up quickly, but wasn't so loud that we couldn't talk and have fun. We all ordered bottomless drinks with our brunch and our waiter, Josh, was very very friendly and attentive. I don't always call out waitstaff, but when you pay for bottomless and there's a time limit, quick refills mean something. We did not go without. Agua 301 also has bottomless mimosas, bottomless margaritas (wut?) as well as bottomless sangria and bottomless bloody marys. Josh would refill the mimosas in particular to the rim of the glass which was honestly impressive but also fun and funny for us. Now the food. Amazing. We had the white fish ceviche and guacamole as appetizers and they were inhaled. Two of us had the baja fish tacos and they were fantastic. Sometimes fried fish is bland because the batter isn't spiced up, but these tacos were fantastic, and I have fish tacos at least once or twice a week. Folks also ordered the tuna tacos and the salmon tacos which were also amazing and the last thing that was ordered was their french toast which was a special that day with strawberry pico de gallo. Every plate was completely cleaned. The serving sizes are large and honestly the pricing was fantastic. We were all too full to eat again that day. The manager came around a few times to check in on us, even refilling drinks for us, too. Agua 301 is pretty inside and has a great location, near the water. The restaurant and it's bathrooms were also incredibly clean. I'm a big fan and can't wait to go back. read more

Came here for brunch with a few friends who were in town and wanted to see the Navy Yard waterfront area. I ordered a mimosa and two of my friends ordered bloody marys. My mimosa was great but my friends both took sips of their bloody marys and looked at each other like something had died. Apparently both of their drinks tasted like dirty dish water that someone had spiked with olive juice. For the first time in their lives my two friends had to send something back to the kitchen. The staff were nice enough about it and offered my friends mimosas as a replacement but one of them was so turned off from the experience that she refrained from ordering another drink. Foodwisee the guac was ok, pork belly tacos were ok, the omelette was ok. Surprisingly the only thing that stood out was the fried chicken sandwich and even that was just decent. Also, when we got our bill we were overcharged for the mimosas. Just not a place i would be thrilled to return to. read more

Was also pretty flavorless. Ordered the seafood paella which was not paella at all. It was watery and soupy The rice had not much flavor. Tasted horrible. The tacos were not great. The salmon with poblano sauce was better but it had literally a drizzle of sauce. Some of our friends ordered enchiladas and flatbreads but they did not eat them due to them being mediocre. I made a reservation and didn't have to wait for a table even though that may have not been even necessary because it wasn't packed at all. The service on the other hand was ehhh...our waiter was just downright weird and really didn't have any knowledge about the menu. He wasn't very helpful at all tbh. As for the food I had the salmon tacos which were really good. The salmon was nice and moist and the basil sauce on top added a nice extra kick to the meal. As for the sides of beans and rice they were so regular lol. Nothing exciting but eh it's beans and rice so I didn't complain. I ordered a cucumber mojito which wasn't on the menu but they were oh so kind to make it for me. It was nice and fresh! Would definitely order it again. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this southeast DC Mexican restaurant. It's initially a little hard to find since it's located on the backside of another restaurant however, the waterside location makes for the perfect environment. The restaurant itself is very elegant way more than most Mexican/texmex locations I've been to. Me and one of my friends stopped in on a Monday night for happy hour which runs from 3:30pm-7pm. The bar has ample space with plenty of seating and never felt too overcrowded or packed in, even during primetime such as happy hour (this also could have been due to it being a Monday before thanksgiving) The service and friendliness of the bartenders was excellent and the atmosphere of the restaurant itself was pleasant. As for the food the happy hour menu featured a choice of two different types of tacos for $5, I definitely would recommend the Baja fish and Beef Barbacoa I had which were neatly made and flavorful as the meats weren't overly dry or overly saturated with too many sauces. As for the drinks they provide a variety of options from $5 wines to $6 classic frozen margaritas which were strong and surprisingly fresh as generally frozen margaritas have that pre-made watered down taste from my experiences at similar Mexican restaurants in the area. This is certainly a go to spot for any type of outing dates, office happy hours, etc. so definitely be sure to check it out. read more

Came here for Restaurant Week and I was not disappointed! The view from the outside seating was so nice! We were facing the pool, park and bridge at The Yard! I ordered the beef flutas, mixed enchiladas, and tres leches cake!! It was all divine! My friend ordered the mussels, carne asada, and Mexican French toast! She stated it was good as well. I've come here multiple times since I live in the neighborhood and if it weren't for the delicious tacos, I would refuse to go back. And this is mainly because of the service/management. I've come here during happy hour when it's beyond busy, when it was raining and people just needed to find shelter, and even when there were hardly any customers and each time I sigh in disbelief of how poorly the service is executed. I do agree with the reviews before me stating that it is a shame to have such poor service in such a good area that receives a lot of traffic. He let us have happy hour 10 minutes before it started which we were happy about. We share 2 pitchers of frozen margarita which really good and we also got chips and salsa. The Navy Yard area has gotten some really nice improvements and Agua 301's location is one of them. There is a nice water feature outside and great outdoor seating. We luckily had a reservation because it was very crowded (~5:30 before a 7pm Nationals game). I was seated immediately and told that the hostess would bring me a happy hour menu. Apparently there weren't enough happy hour menus to go around, because the hostess and my waitress had a very hard time finding one for me! Service was pretty slow and I noticed tables around mine getting a little frustrated by it. I ordered the red sangria which was great and my boyfriend had a nice marg. The guac was great and we also ordered the mexican flatbread (loved the spicy pineapple), beef barbacoa flautas (loveddddd the cheese dip that came with that) and each got 2 tacos. Last night was my second time to this establishment. I really did not enjoy the food or drinks the first time. I came back with a friend last night for a second try. I will not be going back. When we arrived, we were greeted by a woman with a unkept head scarf on, as if she just rolled out of bed. Her unwelcoming attitude also did not help. It was about 530p. The food still was still not good to me. I've had better rice, beans, and tacos. The food just did not taste authentic or fresh to me. The spicy margherita was okay. The server was okay.
