Made reservations at this restaurant, when I got there I realized they only had indoor seating. I asked the hostesses if it was possible to sit outside. They immediately said no! Tables open were already reserved. The hostesses (guy and girl) were VERY rude. We sat inside, service was beyond slow. And we kept an eye at the outside seating and it literally was mostly empty. Every other table were open outside while the inside tables were fully filled. I don't get how that makes sense during this pandemic! Went for a late lunch during the weekday with a friend and it was great vibes. We sat outside, talked, and just enjoyed the amazing view. The food was good: the crab cake was impeccable, probably one of the best I've ever had. The beef empanada was decent, I wished they used ground beef instead of shredded beef. The chicken wings are hood, they needed a good dipping sauce but the options they had were very few. I went here on Easter for a sort-of last minute dinner. It's in a great location - right on the water with a great view in an up-and-coming area. Bonus: Ice Cream Jubilee around the corner is delish for dessert. The server we had was excellent. He was very attentive and helpful with suggestions. We had the steak tacos and steak empanadas, as well as the paella and crab guacamole. I had the strawberry mojito and my boyfriend had a flavored margarita. Everything was delicious. The guacamole had plenty of crab in it, which is nice. The sauces on the empanada were very flavorful and the paella had plenty of seafood in it. We went to this place last Friday night after attending the outdoor concert. Pros: Food was good. Cons: Poor management! This restaurant has the worst restaurant manager I have ever seen in my life. Extremely rude and unprofessional. I don't know how this guy landed this job and how he is able to keep his job. I hope the restaurant owners do something about this. We had an extremely slow service. Our server was borderline rude and we had to ask her for some of the orders multiple times. We understand "busy" and we understand if someone has been assigned to a large section, but she can be nice and let us know ahead of time and we wouldn't care. My husband asked for the restaurant manager at the end and it took him a while to show up. And when she showed up, he was extremely rude!! When my husband complained about the slow service, he said "this is your opinion". Bottomline, if you care about your experience and how you are treated, I do not recommend you to go to this restaurant. My best friend brought me here for my birthday dinner back in November. After struggling to find the entrance due to weird lighting and poor sinage and having to ask someone how to get inside we were treated to a wonderful meal and fantastic service. This was my first experience at Agua and I thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor ambiance on the waterfront. We had a quiet, private outdoor table that allowed us to have a private conversation without feeling too distanced. We each ordered an appetizer but the coup de grace was the amazing Paella. What a wonderful meal topped off by a personal birthday cake brought out to cap everything off. Last night my friend and I stopped into this place because he ranted how good the drinks were. We sat at the bar where we waited 10 minutes before the bartender acknowledged us! He was busy but still acknowledge the guest before they walk out. Anyway, my friend ordered a classic margarita and I ordered the blood orange margarita (because I love anything blood orange). I've been enjoying this establishment throughout the summer of 2020. I've visited for brunch and multiple happy hours. The food is pretty consistent and the margaritas are legit. They also feature happy hour specials on the weekend. I highly recommend this spot. We came here for a birthday brunch. I made reservations through Yelp. The day of, we were short a couple heads and the restaurant didn't say anything about it. That was nice considering some places in DC are borderline-psycho about reservation numbers. (Calm down, we're already overpaying for fancily-cooked eggs!) They were also strangely small and subsequently messy because the food falls out of the mini tortilla. The sides were all delicious and properly seasoned, so maybe I'll skip the tuna next time. When I tell you this place has good food! Believe me! I arranged a party of 5 through open table and it was so easy. I showed up early to early and walked around the Navy yard which is really nice at night. when I walked in I was greeted and seated in minutes. It wasn't busy on Sunday night and I was thankful because the table was ready in moments. They brought chips and salsa for everyone and it was tasty! I ordered the mushroom tapa thing that was vegetarian. Loved it. I also got the sangria to wash it down. It was so fresh and the fruit that was with it was fresh as well. I hate to say it, but Agua 301 was kind of a fail. My colleagues and I came here for a work happy hour/dinner, and I was pretty disappointed by all their fare. The drinks were fine, but the food is where I feel that Agua 301 fell short. Situated right by the water, Agua 301 is a gorgeous spot with a fabulous view. Unfortunately, that's really the only positive thing I can say about this establishment. Our party of 8 ordered a bunch of apps and entrees to share. We had a whole slew of things, but the only thing that I thought truly tasted good...was the guacamole. And come on, guacamole is good everywhere. The queso we ordered came out as this inedible block of cheese that would not separate even though we took a steak knife to it. The empanadas were sad - all pastry and no filling. What little beef that lived inside the puff pastry was dry and completely flavorless. The only thing that is preventing me from giving Agua 301 a 1-star review is the service. Despite the fact that we were a table of 8, our waitress did a great job of keeping food and drinks coming out of the kitchen and bar. The employees were attentive, friendly, and quick to accommodate everyone's needs. I'm glad that our group dined here on the company's $ cause ain't nobody got time for lifeless empanadas. read more

I am in LOVE with the frozen peach sangria--it's not the same super sweet ones most Mexican places have that's just poured out of a carton, it's definitely made fresh, not overly sweet, and you can taste the alcohol! For the food, we got guacamole, which was just average, and the nachos, which were pretty good. My favorite food item, though, was the very uniquely flavored and delicious queso fundido. I am appreciative of any restaurant that is open during COVID and acclimating to the new regulations in Dc. I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant for about a month and while I love the outside ambiance, the food was just ok. The salsa was blan and most of the food overall just lacked flavor. The black beans needed some salt, a bay leaf, some garlic, etc. the bbq pork taco was the best of the three I had. I didn't enjoy the fish taco at all, it was perfectly battered, but once again, no flavor and same for the Barbacoa. Margs: + (Check Plus) Though we opted for the Classic it was a good choice. Strong and delicious, like a marg should be. If you are with a group it's to your benefit to grab a pitcher! Tacos: Gold Star Wow! These are the best part of Agua 301! I've never met a taco I didn't like and that still holds true here. Per the waiter's recommendation, I opted for the Pork Belly and Baja Fish tacos which I split and tried the Salmon and Beef Kimchi tacos, too! The Pork Belly was by far the best. Whatever they did with the pineapple slaw made this taco magical! Get two orders. Each order comes with 2 tacos. Guac: A-Ok This wasn't anything over the moon amazing. My friend, N, and I visited for lunch on Sunday with her toddler. Overall, we enjoyed the food and the outdoor seating. I do plan to return and try out more of the menu. I ordered the fish tacos with rice and beans, with a hibiscus agua fresca to wash it all down. I was pleased with food and drink. My only complaint on that front was that the portions were more European sized that American sized :) Actually, N was very happy about the portion sizes, as she prefers not to have gigantic amounts of food at a restaurant. She ordered the special which was hash (home fries) with red peppers and two eggs on top. She will also be returning, as she greatly enjoyed her meal. My parents who are from Baltimore came to visit me at work for lunch. They don't get to DC much, although they used to come when they were younger ( back in the day before any of this was here)...my mother can be kind of particular so I figured she would have something to say...more on that later. Dad got the fish tacos and loved them. I have had them before and I agree, tasty fish, lightly breaded, yummy! I got the Shrimp Torta, a delish sandwich with a tasty sauce and big jumbo fresh shrimp and I got a side salad. Huge portions of both, I was able to take the rest home for dinner. So mom, ever the picky one...Wanted the salmon salad but wanted her salmon "medium well"...I'm pretty sure she actually wanted it well done b/c medium well these days is a little pink on the insides....They brought it out, it was too rare for her, they re did it, she still wasn't super happy but she accepted it anyway...Then they took it off the check! Not only was the manager and our waiter Christopher very apologetic, but they were extremely gracious and nice. Christopher kept my glass refilled, and he had little storied and fun facts to tell us. Met up with some friends at Agua for a Saturday night dinner. Sadly it was raining and we were not able to sit outside and utilize their awesome waterfront patio. At first our waiter was attentive but as the night wore on he left us alone for long periods of time, it was a bit difficult to get him to come back to give us our check. As far as the food goes it's pretty standard mexican, nothing mind blowing. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas to share, it was a bit sweet in my opinion but it was a good size pitcher. Guac was standard but they did have a fun seasonal version with bacon! sadly my table wasn't into it. The menu is a little confusing, they have multiple options to go for dinner. We all chose to do a combination of tacos. I would suggest two orders per person. Of the tacos I tried here are my feelings: Pork Belly - A+ Carne Asada - A Carnitas - B Chicken - C No dessert for us. Overall I wasn't floored but we had a great time. There are definitely better Mexican restaurants in DC but if you're in Navy Yard after a game or just hanging out and are craving a taco, Agua 301 will hit the spot. read more

This place is literally a hit or miss. I went here on Wednesday with my colleagues and the service was slow and inconsistent. (I believe they are hiring alot of new waiters and waitresses so be prepared for the learning curve.) Since the food was good on Wednesday, I thought I would go today and just get some snack foods as I was not hungry enough for a whole meal. I watched the waiter serve one table and walk right past me. Water perhaps? Nope. I had to literally call the location as I sat aside to let them know I was outside. (Like are you nuts?!) The waiter came outside and did not bother to apologize which was fine, at this point I was just trying to avoid walking out completely since I started to indulge in the chips. He proceeds to take my order, never asked would I like to order a drink and I asked him to see if the food could come out quickly since I've been waiting no less than 25 minutes (mind you my lunch break is 30, so yes anxiety is starting to kick in). His response was, "The kitchen is busy. We're busy." I am not sure what that meant but I was sure that I wanted two chicken empanadas and the guac out asap because he slid past me the first time. Welp, I waited for another 5-7 minutes and miraculously the food came out. The texture of the guac was very strange. Dense and not even avocado-like (if that makes sense). I asked for the check, that was another 5-7 minutes and I left. I wanted to complain on the spot because everything was just poor but I decided to just call when I get off of work. This has been the first restaurant I went to at Navy Yard. A group of friends and I came in for Sunday brunch. We were seated quickly - so A+ in wait time. The bottomless mimosa was perfect, I don't think I've had any better in the DC area. It wasn't to sweet or watered down, instead it was the perfect amount of OJ and champagne (plus the glasses were very cute) I wouldn't say that the huevos rancheros are the best that I've tried but they were good. Others in my table were pleased with their food. Service was decent up until checkout, we ordered only 1 check to make the process easier but then when she brought the cards, not all of them were back, we were overcharged and had to re do it again. The second receipt didn't show up the new amount so we had to scratch it ourselves and write our total. A whole mess! However, considering this issue, our server's behavior was great toward it. I'd say that some points that were lost in overall service she earned back by how she handled the situation. Could be improved tho! I'll be back for the tacos. And the mimosas, of course. Oh, also compared to other brunches in DC this one didn't feel overpriced. read more

Highly recommend this place for happy hour. Lots of options on the menu. We ordered several appetizers and shared. Everything we ordered, we devoured - nachos, tacos, guacamole, chicken flautas. So good! The staff was friendly. And the sangria was tasty. Prices are also very reasonable. They gave us sangrias but I didn't get to enjoy it as TWO were thrown all over me and my coat with no apology. We asked to speak to a manager and instead had to deal with a very slow moving server for another 45 minutes before FINALLY being greeted by the ACTUAL manager... worst service ever and the food tasted microwaved... Great new addition to the Wharf! Not your traditional Mexican restaurant but great food. The margaritas are deadly. The chips and salsa were good but the salsa could have had more of a kick to it. Get the guac! We sat Inside but if the weather is nice, they have a patio area with beautiful views of the water. We made reservations but it didn't seem like it would be hard to get a table.
