I came here after the Nats/Cubs game (13/0, Nats - sad day for the Cubs, but I'm used to these pitiful losses after so many years of being a Cubs fan) upon the recommendation of several friends. They were right insofar as the baja fish tacos are delicious, but Agua 301 fell short on the rest of the food and drinks. The house margarita was just boring, and lacked any real taste. (To be clear, the marg I had at Agua 301 was probably my 4th+ of the day -- and after drinking the slushy, sugary margs at the ballpark, I believe that any subpar margarita could have exceeded my expectations -- unfortunately, not the one at Agua 301). It just did not have the right blend of sweet/sour/tart, the way a margarita should. Sad. Proceed to the guacamole- kind of boring. We added salt and a bunch of lime juice, which made it palatable, but still, kind of average. Moving onto the ceviche -- again, we felt it had no taste whatsoever, so we added some salt and lime juice, which helped the situation tremendously, but still only left the taste at slightly above average? The fish tacos looked like they'd been sitting under a warmer for a few minutes (the sauce on top had that lovely crusted-over look to it?) but still, somehow managed to melt in my mouth like butter. I think there's alot of room for improvement -- and with it's beautiful location on the waterfront, and great outdoor seating - I hope the food gets better! If not, stick with beer and fish tacos, and you'll be happy. Also - they have outlets under the bar for phone charging. Huge plus! read more

Great happy hour selections!! The frozen peach sangria is amazing, I could drink it all day. & it's not a weak one, you'll be feelin' good after two. The tacos are all delish, but my fave happy hour items are the beef empanadas and shishitos toreados, so def give them a try! read more

I'm glad this is an option in the neighborhood but it's never really impressed me on numerous visits. The drinks are very good and bartenders friendly. The food is meh... some menu items are really pretty good and others are bland. But still, fine. But where this place really needs some help is the service. It's friendly enough, but painfully slow. We just went there for brunch and it was absolutely amazing. Our waiter, Luis, was fantastic. The food was great and came out in a timely fashion. The drinks were awesome and strong enough. The bottomless margaritas were so good! I would absolutely go back. 10/10 read more

Meh....I can to this restaurant with a friend because of a recommendation. From the outside it looked nice, but inside was a completely different story. I had a 7:30 reservation and ended up having to wait an additional 20 minutes to be seated. The hostesses seemed very overwhelmed and stressed. The frozen drinks were ok, margaritas not so good at all. The food was underwhelming and there were rats running around outside (that part I understand isn't the restaurants fault, it's DC). Our waitress appeared to be the only one working so it took quite a while to get our drinks. She's actually the only reason this review gets the 3 stars because she was genuinely trying her best--her and the free chips and salsa. However, I will not be back to this restaurant again. This was probably the worst dining experience I've had in DC. My friend and I both were really disappointed we decided to come here. read more

Wandered over here last night with some friends for a drink and light dinner for my birthday. Main reason for trying it out was that we were over at the Trapeze School, and this was walking distance.... and new to the neighborhood so we decided to give it a try. Everything we ate was good... I had guacamole and the pork belly tacos. The tacos were the winner! Really yummy, good amount of spice, and nice and crispy! The guac was just ok... doesn't even come close to my all time fave (Rosa Mexicano) I also had a blood orange margarita... which was actaully pretty weak. Yummy... but heavy on the blood orange, and very light on the tequilla! I like the price-point of this place... and i am sure i will be back. Its a nice in-between option for the navy yard neighborhood. A step up from Nandos and Potbelly, but not as pricey as Bluejacket and Osteria Morini (right next door) Not the world's best mexican, but good food, and reasonable prices! read more

Went to Agua 301 last weekend for brunch with my coworker. We had bottomless mimosas and sangria ($15) and I ordered the crab cake Benedict as the entree. It was so delicious and the entree portion was huge! Plus complimentary chips and salsa! YUM! (I've been here before too for lunch, and had gotten fish tacos, margarita, guacamole - which was excellent as well). If I could give the management of this establishment (Roger) zero stars, I would. The way we were spoken to and treated during our recent visit was absolutely deplorable. When we arrived at the host stand to be seated, we were told that in the event that it rains, we wouldn't be accommodated indoors. We proceed to sit outdoors. Lo and behold, it begins to rain. A nice Caucasian couple is seated about thirty five minutes after us. About ten minutes later, it begins to rain. The couple proceeds to take themselves indoors and are allowed to sit in the dining area. We ask for an explanation from the manager on duty, he comes out to our table and speaks to us in the most rough, rude, disrespectful, condescending, and in-compassionate tone you could imagine. His explanation for the Caucasian couple being seated was that the table in the dining room had just become available. However, we witnessed that the table had been open for the entire duration of our dinner. We were not offered any consolation for our inconvenience, or anything of the sort. I am so disgusted with the customer service of the Service Manager (Roger), that I cannot see myself returning to this establishment. I truly believe that if I were not African American, that my experience in this instance would have been much more favorable. Do not eat here if you are Black and Roger is on duty! read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. The food we ordered -- traditional guacamole, yucca fries, hongos tacos, salmon tacos, and churros tasted pretty decent. The service on the other hand, leaves something to be desired. Our server was friendly and polite, but she basically disappeared for long stretches of time. It took quite awhile to get our food (place was not busy) and it was rather annoying having to wait around for her to sporadically show-up. Hopefully, the service is better the next time we return. read more

This place definitely has potential after the give the service an upgrade. I've been a few times and the lunch service is always spotty, not terrible but definitely not great, like getting an iced tea refill and having waitress circle back more. After a recent Nats game, the bar was crowded and the bartenders were running around pretty good, but if you are two blocks from the ball park, staff up appropriately like Gordon Biersch. We sat at the bar and had to flag down bartender and had trouble having him take a food order, seriously. We asked for chips/salsa at least 3 times without him ever acknowledging us and never getting them. We had similar trouble getting our check and got no eye contact the whole time. read more

Came for lunch. It's a nice location and the place looks nice. That's about all there is that's good to say about this place. The table tops are surprisingly dirty, grimy. Service was slow, inattentive, not too pleasant...not terrible, just really apathetic. Ordered the lomo saltado. It came out plated very well, looked really good. It wasn't overly covered with gravy like another reviewer suggested, in fact it did have the right amount of sauce, not too much at all...just a little coating. However, the flavor was horrible. Is that soy sauce? God knows. And they put mustard all over the top. Mustard. On lomo saltado. The menu says it comes with roasted potatoes, but it came out with fries...an acceptable substitute and arguably more common/traditional with the dish. The frozen then fried fries were the best part of the dish. The worst lomo saltado I've had. I'm not sure it should quite get 2 stars, but I imagine on a nice day, sitting outside and drinking margaritas could be nice. read more

Today I had lunch with the crew at Agua 301. Not bad... probably one of the better places in the region for eats so far. The yucca fries were especially fine, and the veggie enchiladas pretty good - though the cotija cheese was undetectable, if it was there at all. Service was good, and attentive. Site was quite clean. This was my first time coming here and it was for Mother's Day. I came with my family members and we really had a great time, the scenery is really what does this place justice but I think they also do a good job with customer service and the food is pretty good too but what really took my breath away was the reasonable prices for brunch. Make sure you get the steak and eggs. Now the only stain to my experience was I made reservations through Yelp a week out. A few days before Mother's Day something told me just to call and reassure my reservations were confirmed but come to find out that my reservation was never processed. The gentleman that I spoke to over the phone explained that they don't take reservations through Yelp and only through open table which was a bit of a disappointment because there's no way customers would know that. Imagine how much of a disaster this would have been if we arrived plan already in motion just to realize that our reservations were never confirmed. read more

I have been on the hunt for a good margarita in the DC metro ever since I moved from Texas 6 months ago. It's been a struggle, but I think Agua 301 might be the answer. I had the Classic Margarita and the Frozen Lime Margarita. The classic was lacking in flavor, but the frozen was fantastic, and I will come back for that. Plus the happy hour prices can't be beat! Now for the food. For the most part, everything had good flavor, but lacked in salt. The salsa was completely bland, but the guacamole was pretty good. We ordered the Enchiladas Vegiterianas and the Bistec a Caballo. The yucca on the side of the bistec was good, but again, everything just needed a dash of salt. I think the plan next time is to stop in for a margarita, then go next door to Osteria Morini for food. read more

Very good food, very good mexican cuisine. our waiter and the host were fantastic! It doesn't seem like a kid friendly place from the atmosphere, however they do have kid options on the menu and the employees actually care and ensure that everything is comfortable. We're from out of town and they made us feel like we were locals. Everyone was genuinely in a good mood even after having worked a long Friday night shift the day after the Fourth of July. No mistakes were made. I got the chicken tinga tacos and they were perfect. I tried my friends salmon taco as well and it was delicious. Margaritas were mixed well too-not too much alcohol but not too sweet. Chips and salsa come with the meal. Great atmosphere-it does feel water like inside and they have outdoor seating under umbrellas and comfortable chairs with views of the river water front and boats at the dock. read more

First of all, this is NOT a reflection of our amazing server who made this experience good. However, we came post Ragnar for Tacos and had lunch and at that point we had been nearly 24 hours between actual meals. The Barbacoa tacos were extremely dry and I needed to bury them with salsa. The beans and rice were ok, the Sangria was delicious and our server was awesome! However, we had our tab split 6 ways and I signed off on my portion to find that they went ahead and authorized the ENTIRE tab on my card. Not cool. Nobody else on my team had that happen. So as of right now they DOUBLE CHARGED us. I know an authorization is not a charge but there is a big difference between 32 bucks and 153.00. I tried to call and speak with a manager but was told one wasn't available and would call me back in 3 minutes....nope...never heard back. read more

Enchiladas are great! Their kids menu leaves much to be desired and this is something I've noticed about restaurants in general. I'd much rather feed my little one at home but we were already out. The restroom needed a mid-day cleaning and some Lysol. This is my second time here and I am pleased to say that I've consistently had a great server. Their host staff however could use a bit more training on greeting and seating guests. Nice location right at Yards Park on the river. Enjoyed a queso fundido which had a great crust and charred onions then shared tacos. The pork belly al pastors was super good - crispy pork cubes, spicy pineapple chunks and a smoky guajillo salsa. The carne asada with kimchi was less successful, missing the funky pickle thing that I expected. Drinks and food was about $50 for two. Overall 3.5 stars. It took over an hour to receive our entree and the waiter blamed the kitchen. Of course annoyed, we cancelled some of the "extras" we ordered for fear it would take forever. Stop thinking you're going to Cactus Cantina! Original flavors and a Tequila/Agave listing that is the envy of any bar north of the border make this a must have experience on the Waterfront. By far the most consistent fare on the water and the best front of house in the business. Get the deep fried yucca with whatever you order but pay special attention to lamb tacos empanadas! After spending about $30 on an entree and guacamole, I was told by the hostess that I'd have to pay extra for a side of salsa. For any one looking at this place, DO NOT let the google rating fool you. The only good this about this restaurant is the location. We went there for Tacos and our food took forever to be served and we had to wait fro even longer time to get our drinks we ordered together with our food. I can't even comment on the customer service, its horrible. Specially the lady at the front had an attitude and was very rude to customers. One last thing found very disappointing was the bath room. IT WAS NASTY!!! I wonder how their kitchen looks like. I was not surprised when we got sick after consuming their food. I will never go back to that restaurant again. If the owners of this place really cares about the business they should start with basic cleaning and training the entire team. read more

The food and drinks were pretty good. Great prices (we went during happy hour) but I had issues with both the service and the tables in the bar area. We ended up having to move to another table because the chairs were so rickety we didn't want to sit in them.The new table had a wobbly table and everyone at our table was afraid to move the wrong way for fear of the chairs collapsing. With the location of the restaurant and it being fairly new, the furniture shouldn't be that broken down already. Also , the servers didn't seem to want us there. We went midday so it wasn't busy at all, but it was somewhat as if we were a burden to ask for something. Not terrible service, but maybe a few of them were having an off day... read more

The happy hour deals were great. Nachos, margaritas, chicken empanadas, and barbacoa tacos all great, but the fish tacos were not white fish like the menu said. I'm not sure if the restaurant was out of the fish they usually use, but the fish that was fried was definitely more gray and in pieces and had a bouncier texture than all fish tacos I've ever had so I did not eat it, and I usually love fish tacos. It says it serves 2 people but there was plenty left overs for and we came with big appetites. the crab guac is cool also, but i was expecting something a little different. it honestly is just meat on top, wasn't even incorporated or anything.
