i love everything I've tried at this place. This is my go to spot. I usually order for delivery, directly from the restaurant or Uber Eats. It always comes hot and well packaged. Love going here for casual and semi-formal occasions. The food is great (I love the black bean dip, al pastor tacos, and Mexican French toast!). The servers are always friendly and fun too! I've been here for happy hour countless times--Agua 301 has a happy hour from about 5 to 7 and another from 9ish to close. I tend to try one thing, like it and stick to it. I'm pretty basic, so I usually get the nachos, the pork belly tacos, flautas and guacamole. I tried the queso once and it was ok. Not bad, not better than the guac. The peach sangria is divine. I don't actually think I have had a margarita from Agua 301 in a while. The space is great for group events and the food good enough for the price. read more

Food was very good and the salsa was fantastic. Portions were just right - not too over the top like most Mexican restaurants. Chicken enchiladas were great. I'd like to see them put some artwork on the walls and decorate a little but being right on water helps deflect your attention from the bare walls. Will go again when I'm in town. read more

I came to celebrate my father in law birthday. In the beginning everything was fine, waiters brought out waters, chips and Salas's. We where never asked whether we wanted any other beverages other than water, my father in law (the birthday man) found a long strand of hair on his meal. We asked if they could bring out a small plate of desert so we could sing him happy birthday. There was no candle and the waiter didn't use his better judgement on when to deliver the small desert, half of the table had gone to the bathroom. We than paid and noticed that the first entre plate which has the hair was charged. Whenever we celebrate a birthday at any other restaurant they have never charged us for the small birthday dessert. I was expecting out of curtesy of ruining the birthday man meal that they would include the birthday dessert. I will not come here again. Very disappointed. read more

The menu leaves much to be desired. Not many options. However the food is good. Everyone at the table had a different type of taco. But service is extremely slow. Soup came 20 minutes before the tacos. And the plantains I ordered as a side came 20 minutes after the tacos. We also had to flag the waiter down each time we needed something. Been to this place before and it is not horrible but not great-- best thing it has going is nice outside seating near the water. However I was shocked today when we were sitting by the kids' wading pool nearby and my friend's 10 year old daughter needed to use the bathroom and asked a waiter who said yes but the hostess stopped her and told the child no and said the restaurant bathroom was only for patrons as if a child understands what that means-- but way to shape children's approach to community and private/public space. I cant tell you how disgusted I am by businesses like this. The Thai restaurant Krube across the street did allow her to use the bathroom and were super friendly about it and these are the type of businesses I would encourage yelp users to support. read more

I am half Mexican and grew up on Mexican food, and while the food here isn't what I consider 'authentic' Mexican food, I must say that I truly love the unique spin and flavors this restaurant has put on their food, in particular their tacos. Their flautas were amazing too. Their drinks aren't anything too spectacular, but this is the first Mexican restaurant out of several I've been to in DC that I want to revisit because I was that impressed with their cuisine! Happy hour review- if you come early enough, there's nothing better than patio sitting with an amazing view of the waterfront. Not a great non-beer selection but there were two IPAs. The tacos were decent, and super cheap for $2.50 each. We also got the wings, which were expensive, 4 wings for $7. Lastly I wanted some refreshing ceviche, but sadly it wasn't very refreshing. It needed more lime and need to be a lot colder. I'm glad I only go the happy hour size and not the dinner size. The place was packed, but service was quick and attentive nonetheless. Headed over to this place on a Saturday night after finding the bar at Bluejacket just too ridiculous to deal with (super crowded). We sat at the bar and ordered a couple cocktails and some appetizers. Their margaritas are excellent. I had a traditional and a cucumber margarita and the cucumber might be one of my new favorite drinks. They don't use a super sugary mix which is the problem I have with most places that serve margaritas. The chips and salsa are good--nothing spectacular but didn't have any of the issues that some other reviewers mentioned. We ordered the carnitas sopes as an app. Oh, these were delicious. It was the perfect mix of savory, sweet, and salty. The pineapple and picked red onion add that extra something that really makes this special. We also shared the Hongos tacos. These were also really good and something I would order again. Comments about the small portions are dead on but since we didn't come here expecting dinner, what we got was just what we wanted. I also think this place would be great for happy hour. Can't wait to come in warmer weather to enjoy a margarita and the view. read more

OK talk me about a bad experience... I came here yesterday with a group of friends. I possibly had one of the worst possible service. I know that serving a big group can be hard, but the waitress showing up every half hour or so or drink coming up as fast and often as a Washington, DC sports championship is just plain BAD... especially when the waitress had the attitude when she screwed up the check, not once, but TWICE... with a good hour of wait between the time we ask for the check, and actually paying. That's really a shame that this place has such poor service, because they have a great location, but according to my experience, and some of the reviews I have read, they better be careful, because that kind of service is not gonna fly long in an every growing area, and up and coming competition in the area. read more

I think the food was really good. The carnitas and beef tacos were delicious and the drinks were good as well. The biggest downfall was the service. Sat outside and waited 10mins until I had to go back inside and ask who our server was going to be to then have a manager take the order, no apology. Our server didn't seem to care because service still lacked afterwards. Had to go inside to get the check and was charged two different prices for the same drink, so not happy there. I returned another time and still the service lacked. It sucks that I find the food pretty good but can't get quality service even when the place isn't busy. read more

Went here for an early dinner with a few friends on a Thursday evening after work. Everything is very mediocre. The guacamole did not taste fresh, like it had been sitting for a while and attempted to be revived with lots of lime. If a Mexican restaurant can't make good guacamole, I have little desire to return. The ambience outside near the waterfront is nice, but the service was a bit slow and the server not very friendly. I would have left ZERO if an option. We came in and the hostess asked if we wanted a table for 4. We said yes, but we'd only be getting apps and drinks. The restaurant was busy at the bar but they had 7-9 open tables in the dining room. She then said oh well we have a bunch of reservations and they will all be coming in soon. Mediocre food and terrible service. We had a large party to celebrate our friend's birthday and we ordered A LOT of food and drinks (bottomless drinks). All the time, we were told that the manager wouldn't allow our server to give us more mimosas because we hadn't ordered the entrees yet- which we did 10min after. In the end we ordered 6 desserts and were told that they didn't have any candles left to sing happy birthday to our friend- only to see a dessert coming out of the kitchen 5min later with a candle and a sombrero for another bday celebration right next to us. I will start by saying I never leave Yelp reviews and generally am very easy to please. That being said, this was a horrible experience. It started at the hostess stand. They told us it would be an hour and fifteen minute wait (this was after telling the people in front of us that would be 45 minutes). We pushed them on it and they said, "sure, 45 minutes." We went to the bar to wait and ordered 2 drinks and guacamole. 5 minutes later our table was ready. We asked to have our guacamole delivered to our table. This is where the fun begins. We sat at our table for half an hour while they aggressively ignored us. Finally, we went to the manager and asked that they at least bring our guacamole that we paid for before we leave. Eight minutes later, they bring our guacamole, say that we must have "ordered it wrong", and then leave our guacamole with no chips. 10 minutes later, they finally bring chips and water. When we informed them that we were leaving, they offered to "take care of us". Apparently that involves sliding us $20 under the table (less than refunding us and shady as hell). This is a great restaurant! The host desk is kind and accomodating. We had a quick 15 minute wait that we used for a photoshoot outside! We chose to sit outside as well. We had a party of 4 so the outside space was tight but totally doable. (the table was full) There were multiple strollers and bundles of joy when we visited which made moving around a little cumbersome but again doable. We came to brunch for my cousins birthday! We drank Poinsettias= champagne, cranberry. We shared the pumpkin pancakes which were DELICIOUS! I had Huevos Rancheros= fried eggs over soft fried tortilla soaked in salsa verde topped with chorizo, refried beans with queso fresco!! I enjoyed it thoroughly. Sadly there wasn't any to take home!
