We got right in as a walk-in. Staff was friendly, prices were better than Floyd's (where we often go) and the decor is really unique and lively. It felt like we were in a special place. Our son's haircut turned out good and just as he asked for. They accepted zelle which was convenient. My only criticism is that they were playing an adult themed show on the TV pretty loudly. So when a loud sex scene came on and my 13 year old was looking at me with huge eyes I had to say something to have staff change the channel. Maybe they don't get a lot of kids here? We'll def be back though. Also, there's a super rad community fridge just outside the place that was crazy stocked with fresh food from local restaurants. But Aguilera's price is more than fair for what they do. His attention to detail is incredible and I've never been asked whether or not I want the back of my head to be round or square. I came into this barbershop with pretty high expectations. I have had a great experience getting my two boys haircuts at another barbershop in Monrovia; however, I needed something closer and local. Also, considering a great cut will cost you somewhere in the 20$ range, I expected nothing short of greatness. And that is what I got. My two boys got the same thing. A number 1 taper, long up top with a combover style. My oldest, 7, went first. Jerry took them right away as there was no one there on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Adam was apprehensive at first because he dislikes hot air from the hair dryer, however Jerry understood and did not use the hair dryer at all!! Also, he let my son know what he was going to do to get an affirmation before he did anything. He let me know as well if he had to show me anything or ask me anything. The end haircut came out exactly as I asked, perfect. My second and youngest, 4, went next. Same thing, Jerry was great joking around with my son. Y son laughed when Jerry styled his hair in a Mohawk before styling and finalizing the fresh combover. So I've been going to Aguilera's Barbershop for about 5 years. I had moved to the area and needed to find a barber that could give me a quality, affordable cut and do it consistently. I've tried most of the barbershops, even salons in the area and nothing to rave about. The three barbers are the best in El Sereno, if not L.A. Friendly, professional, quick, and gets the cut right every time.  Sometimes a great haircut is all you need to start the weekend and it's a great confidence booster. The prices are very affordable for the quality you get. I'm a fan of this place and will continue to go back because I've been getting great cuts. Our 2.5 year old son was in need of haircut so I yelped a few places and after seeing the reviews we checked out this shop. We arrived at 7:30 pm and there were a few gents ahead of us, with only two of the three barbers on the clock, it turned into a one hour wait. The music in the shop was pumping and we all kicked back and just jammed away. Somehow my usually hyper and antsy boy managed to stay chill the whole time we waited. Since it was our first time here, I didn't have a preference on who cut our son's hair. Both barbers were turning out snazzy work on their clients. When it was our turn, my son was paired up with Enrique, a gentleman with a cool 'stache and slicked back hair. Enrique turned out to be THE BOMB. He was super patient with our boy, first warming himself up to him by making him laugh and smile. He also would "test" out each device/haircut tool before running it through his hair (so my son wouldn't freak out with the razor, vibrations etc.) Enrique was a total pro giving our little man the full on treatment. We couldn't be happier we found this place and found Enrique to take care of son's haircuts from now on. I highly recommend this place!!! read more

If your not sure what kind of cut to get there recommendations are great. They do both appointments and walk ins. But I think they prefer appointments so your not waiting too long. read more

Talk about a slow cut! We came in at 12:00 with 6 people ahead of us. I'm thinking with 3 barbers this should be a one and a half hour wait. 3 hours later while the barbers were watching South Park and joking among them selfs we were called for the haircut. One hour later they had done such a lousy job. One of the barbers made a comment about a customer "just make them wait 3 hours so he knows he's not welcome" I guess new customers aren't welcome. I definitely will be coming here from now! The service was also great. Very friendly atmosphere and everyone made me comfortable, even though it was my first time. Steve was very sociable and told me some interesting stories. Hair cut didn't take long at all for how much work was done. I asked for a little change and Steve didn't hesitate to fix what I asked for. He also made sure I knew what I was getting before he started (good thing he did, my hair would have been a little shorter than what I wanted). There are three barbers at this shop. This review applies to the barber Juan. Went there for a haircut this Tuesday. I was his last customer for the night. He rushed my haircut and the whole haircut took about 15 minutes when it normally takes my regular barber 45 minutes to cut my hair. He placed a bunch of hair gel on me and asked me how is the cut. I replied it looks ok and it did in that light and with all that gel on my head. Paid $15 for the cut and tipped him $5. When I got home and washed all that gunk off my head I saw that it was not 'ok.' One side of was totally longer than the other. The blend on the other side was totally jagged. The back was blended unevenly. I called Juan the next day to tell him I needed a fix and explained the reasoning. He said for me to come by the next day and he'll make it right, never mentioning any fee. I go there the next day and he says he will charge me $9 for a 'clean up.' I laughed and said ok. I get how he works. No problem. $9 is not a big deal to me. I just wanted my hair fixed. After it was done I even tipped him $1. This is the last time I come to this place. I get a haircut every 2 weeks. This amounts to roughly $450 a year without tip. If this place wants to nickel and dime its customer so be it. They won't be getting it from me. If a barber does not want to stand by his work and go out of his way to make the customer happy, it is not the place for me. Good luck guys. Before you leave the place make sure you spend 20 minutes looking over your cut or else you might get charged extra to fix it. This is guaranteed to happen if Juan cuts your hair! read more

We dropped by on a whim on a Sunday morning after reading the glowing reviews from this place. This place offered up what we were hoping for without the frills. We were not disappointed! His new haircut will suit his professional job environment. Pluses included affordable pricing ($15-$20), excellent haircuts, and friendly service. The board showing the different services cracked me up. There is even an "executive cut" offered that includes marriage counseling as part of the package. My first visit to Aguilera's was, unfortunately, an upsetting experience. The barber that is stationed farthest away from the entrance was impersonal and extremely rough on my scalp. I'm not sure if he was in a hurry or was having a bad day, but my head is still numbing from the hair yanking, the comb slapping against my poor head, and heavy handed rapid buzz cutting. I do admit, however, he did a nice job on how I envisioned my hair to be cut, but I will skip him the next time I consider going back, and that's a big IF! Just my luck that his appointment he had with a client was cancelled and with that he was able to take his time to create a nice clean cut! Making an appointment is also a plus because what Juan told me is that they really make you feel special which costs a bit more but is so worth it in the end. So today we decided to trust them with our sons' hair and they didn't let is down. One prefers the gentlemen look and the other likes the disheveled surfer look. I promised these guys a review when I came in for a cut here for the first time after the great experience I had, which may have been about a month ago now but I'm a man of my word! Thanks for the cut guys, sorry for the late review. Better late then never I guess haha. Well I came in here because I was visiting a friend at Cal State Los Angeles and I stayed the night and my hair was looking rugged.. I have really long hair up top but I get a medium fade all around and it drops a bit in the back, I get a cut about every 4-5 days and it had been a good 7-8. So I slept with my hair up that day in a "man bun" and I went to the shop with my hair still up because I've been to shops where I asked them not to cut the top and they still did while doing the sides.. I've had plenty of bad experiences I think everyone has. I have one barber and he's been cutting my hair since we were in high school.. But unfortunately he is not in the Los Angeles area and I just could not wait! Yelp brought me to Aguilera's so thanks for that Yelpers! Anyways.. I pulled up and I walked in and I didn't know you had to sign in but they saw when I got here and knew when it was my turn. The wait was kinda shitty but it always is so I'm used to it! I think I was there for a good hour to an hour and a half before I got seated but I told them what I wanted and they made sure I got it. They were real honest about their capabilities, the guy I got my cut from spoke English and it was a little broken but BARELY. He spoke great English I had no trouble understanding him. and when he didn't know what I was talking about when I would explain my cut he would always make sure he understood completely rather than just go for it and hope for the best like some barbers do. He did a very clean cut and definitely paid attention to detail. He even pointed out one mistake that every barber I had ever gone to including my friend had never noticed and let me know he couldn't fix it because it had to grow back some. Cut was a little higher than what I'm used to paying but I can't complain, not only did I get a great cut I had a great time. The atmosphere is great here these guys are some characters and I mean that in the best way possible. They're funny and always cracking jokes and making conversation with everyone trying to get everyone involved into the conversation and they don't do it in a fake "we do this because we need to" type of way. They were real genuine. Wether they were cracking a joke about the movie that was playing or talking about the celebrities that have stopped at the shop to get cuts or even checking out the women that walked by heading to the threading salon next door it was never a dull moment here! These guys are great. I'm not much of a reviewer unless service was either horrible or outstanding.... This shop is outstanding! I've gotten my her did by all three barbers and each one was exactly what I wanted. The thing I like the most about them is they hear you out as to what style and length you want your hair, but they have no trouble letting you know what they think. I recently went in and got my haircut with the younger dude, Juan I believe (sorry if I'm wrong!), and I told him what I wanted to do. He gave me his suggestion, which worked out great. They know what needs to get done and what exactly to cut to make your cut look exactly how you wanted. Long story long, stop by and support this local barber shop! Great cuts and reasonable prices.
