I have been bringing my 5 year old here for months now. It's always hard to find a good barber and I'm so happy I found this place. Mario has been my go to for my son's cuts and he does a great job every time. I called ahead to find their procedures for getting a haircut and they shared the safety protocols they were following -- outdoors (at the time), masks on, appointment only, etc. When I got there, I was greeted by all employees and was seated immediately. After finding out a barber I planned to frequent in Downey was fired, I was scrambling to find someone, someplace comparable...after reading many reviews on many barber shops I decided on Main Street Barbers, what a grand decision I made!! When I arrived I was planning on having Mario cut my hair as it seemed many of his customers were very satisfied; but due to rotations he set me up with Diane, a blessing in disguise! After having asked numerous questions to ensure I get the haircut "I" wanted, she did a brilliant job! She was very sweet, professional, kind and truth be told, "easy on the eyes!" She truly has a regular customer in me! Lastly, I want to mention how wonderful Irene (owner) was while I was there. This place is right off Main Street, in between some car dealerships. The interior has a chill, old school vibe and as soon as you walk in the door you feel like family. Mario, Dre, and Rick are all really friendly. The place is cash only but there's an ATM literally 2 stores down (5 second walk) at Eagles Nest. Great place overall. Been going here for over three years and loved this place, but just received the worst haircut I've ever had. Make sure you're on your toes and paying attention to Mario the entire time you are there. I was looking at my phone while waiting for my turn and didn't realize that Mario's chair opened up. He took it as an insult and proceeded to aggressively cut the sides and fumbled with the top to make it look like he attempted the haircut I asked for. I got home and my wife looked at me like "wtf happened to your head". That kind of passive aggressive behavior is ridiculous and it's a shame because his mom owns the place and is the sweetest lady. I was looking for a new barber shop for my 10 year old son and so we went to visit Main Street Barbers for the 1st time. Once we walked in the door we were greeted by Mario. He was so kind and friendly and made us feel at home. He engaged us in conversation while we waited for my son's cut. We waited only a couple minutes. Danny cut my son's hair. He did a great job and he was quick. My son loved that it was so fast. I have 2 younger son's that are 2 years old and I brought them back to the barber shop this past Friday because we had such a great 1st experience. Again, we were greeted and helped right away. Mario and the team are amazing. One of my boys was crying the whole time they cut his hair and the staff was so caring and patient. Offered him candy, toys and words of encouragement. I stepped out to grab a jacket from my car while Mario was finishing up a customers haircut (which took me 2 minutes, as I was just parked on Curtis) because my back was hurting. He took this as if I was wasting his time since my turn was next, and that didn't sit well with me at ALL. I treated him with respect, and in no way wasted his time, so this is not acceptable. He even said "I have back problems too" with a condescending tone after I let him know that my back was the reason. I sat down to receive a very harsh and reckless haircut. I had run to the car NOT walked, out of consideration for his business. Only reason I'm giving it two stars is bc the atmosphere is cheerful and most of them in there seem like good people. However, Mario is an exception in my case. Do what you will with this information. read more

Gotta let you know that this barber shop rocks! Irene cut my hair and I absolutely loved it. I got great compliments from people and so I decided to bring my 2 year old son last week. Mario gave my boy a lollipop while he was getting his hair cut with Diane then while we were trying to entertain my son, we sang some nursery rhymes, guess what, the entire barber shop sang with us and that was something that I don't normally see in real life, only in the movies. If I could give more than 5 stars I would... I have been here three times now, I came off of Yelp myself as I was visiting the LA area from OC, and have twice waited well over a month to get a cut(which I usually do weekly) because I loved the cut I got here so much. Diane is great, very sweet, personable, and takes the time to be sure your hair looks perfect before you walk out. On my second visit, she was off so I sat in Dre's chair and was equally impressed by her work! The vibe is so family oriented, I could hang out in the shop and be completely comfortable. Feels like being at a back yard family function when your here. I just moved back to the area, I'm ready to get back on my weekly cut regimen, and won't even think about going anywhere else but here! Great Tradition of Service - My first haircut was given to me by Manny, he also gave my brother and my two sons their first as well... Always kind and patient with all the folks who sit down. The barbershop were my first friends in the city and I go every couple weeks to get the custom cut and style that MARIO created for my new career.
