From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming and hyped us up for the challenge. The room itself was cleverly designed, with puzzles that made us think, work together, and argue (lovingly) about whose fault it was when we got stuck. The clues were challenging but fair, and the props and environment made us feel like we were in an actual prison trying to break out. We loved the variety of puzzles, and the staff gave just enough hints to keep us moving without spoiling the fun. We didn't escape in time, but we had so many laughs along the way that it didn't even matter. Everyone from the adults to the kids had a role in solving something, and it was awesome to see everyone working together. If you're looking for a fun, interactive, and memorable way to spend time with family or friends, book the Prison Break room at Escape Modesto. I felt the staff has always matched their level of help/involvement perfectly with our progress and our group. Logistically, the waiver process is super fast and there's plenty of parking in the mall parking lot right outside the space (at most just need to do very minimal walking through the lot). We took on The Factory room, which threw us into an industrial puzzle-filled adventure that had just the right mix of brain-twisting riddles, tactile challenges, and "Aha!" moments. With a few minutes to spare (and a lot of dramatic yelling, teamwork, and maybe one too many bumps in the dark), we managed to escape! The props and setup were immersive without being overcomplicated, it really felt like we were in an abandoned, mystery-filled plant. The puzzles were clever and layered. Nothing felt too easy, but we never felt completely stuck. A perfect balance! The decor in the hallway is a time-warp in itself, clocks galore, moody lighting, and vibes straight out of a time travel noir movie. The staff was top-notch. Super friendly, helpful with hints (when we begged), and fully in on the fun. Bonus points for the hilarious costumes in the photo room, nothing brings a group together like looking absolutely ridiculous in chainmail and a Viking crown. Pro tip: Dress comfortably, bring a few puzzle-minded friends, and prepare to laugh, think, and possibly argue over what the Roman numeral VII really means under pressure. Puzzles are both clear and challenging at times, the narrative is very interesting and provokes discussion both during and after, and the prospect of decisions affecting later Chapters is very interesting. One of the most engaging and interesting Escape Rooms I've ever done. Although you might find cheaper Escape Rooms out there, Off the Couch Games offers a more unique experience that I think definitely gives you plenty of entertainment for your dollar. I eagerly await Chapters 4 and on. Only room for improvement I can really say is signage. If you miss the banner and front door on your way into the parking lot, you may get confused, especially at night.

Additionally, they mentioned that we'd receive a discount off our total based on how quickly we finished, which was extra encouragement for us to get through the game. You immediately get immersed into the game before even walking into the actual room and once you're in Occam's Apartment, it feels even more real. The room itself is well decorated, with nice details scattered around the apartment. I loved every minute of the escape room experience and felt challenged throughout the time we were there. We did ask for hints throughout our time there and the answers were often given through directional questions. What I liked most about the Off the Couch set up is that the escape rooms are all a continuation of a storyline, so it makes you feel invested in the experience. I'm looking forward to the next escape room!
