I wish I could give this place 5 stars. Read my other reviews, I'm very generous with giving 5 star reviews. I came here with my son to enjoy a sushi night to catch up on life and enjoy great food. This is a 3 star review and this is why: The good: food here is fantastic, you won't go wrong with ordering sushi. This is top notch fresh sushi. The interior is gorgeous, has a very romantic and happy vibe going on here. This is a place you can propose marriage at the table and it would feel right. Host was very friendly and was accommodating to take a picture of me and my son in the beautiful lobby. The bad: the waitress had some off and weird energy going on. She was quite attractive and neat in appearance but . . . She came checking on our table every 30 seconds. No joke! I asked my son in humor "I think she likes you". Not sure why she would come to our table way too frequently. This is probably how George Clooney feels when he goes out. This was very strange that it was flattering at first but soon became extremely annoying. Strange, right ?!?! 2 Filipino males just enjoying sushi night and the waitress really made it weird. So please come here and eat but hopefully you don't get that kind of paparazzi in your face kind of service by the waitress. Waitress, if you are reading this: I'm married so that's a no go for me. My son is single but it would've been way less weird if you just asked him for his phone number. This place was packed during our dinner time so there's no logical reason for the waitress to check on us every 30 seconds. Thanks for making me feel like a celebrity that night but we just wanted to eat and enjoy. Next time please just check on us maybe every 5 minutes only. We like this place and we will be back. Also yes we tipped anyways.

I stopped by with the family to get some Teppanyaki because I was craving some Ah-So! The service was good and quick! The ambiance was nice and clean. I ordered the steak with rice always my go too! Cannot go wrong with this choice! It was delicious. I loooove their yum yum sauce. We also started with the Japanese Lettuce Wraps, these are also delicious! Sooo good and refreshing!! My man also got the Calamari Strips and he loved it!!! Their side salad they bring to the table before the meal is sooo good, I love the dressing. I get two salads instead of soup and salad because I love the salad that much haha!! My man got steak and shrimp for his meal and my kiddo got steak and rice for his like his momma! We love coming to Ah-so it's always delicious. My man also got Sake bombers with Kirin and he always loves these lol!

Come for the experience. Return over and over because the food is excellent!! The chefs are very entertaining and make it a fun experience. Dining area is clean and beautifully appointed. Nice enough for a special occasion l, family friendly too.

I came here with the intention of ordering off the lunch menu. I was trying my luck though because their lunch hours weren't listed. I later found out that it was only available Monday through Thursday after the host asked the manager. The day I went was a Friday and I just walked a little too much in the sun to turn around so I dined anyway. I ordered a Kirin on draft and their Ah So roll. Their draft beers aren't listed and you will have to ask. It came with a lukewarm miso soup which was honestly a good thing because there was no way I'd eat that hot during that day. The roll was definitely spicy as described. The roll was large but I was grateful because this restaurant is on the more expensive side. I think the prices are too high for this area. You can go to other places nearby for good sushi for a lot less. They're trying to charge LA prices when they're not in LA.

I've been here a couple times with family. The food, is absolutely phenomenal. The only downside is the wait time, there's no point making a reservation as it doesn't matter when you arrive, you will not be the priority. So walking in will most likely be the best chance you have.

Great location in Phoenix and fast seating. Super nice server that was so helpful in our decisions. We tried a lot of different things and they were all good. 3 stars only bc the raw octopus was a little rough. Not too bad though. The calamari was fried perfectly. The eggs rolls were good. But the sushi and umami bowl were the stars. Miso was not great.

I checked us in for our reservation and the hostess welcomed us in, then promptly took us to the table that had been beautifully prepared for our dining experience. She asked if the lighting was too dim, but it was perfect. Every staff member was dressed neatly and welcomed us as we walked by. No staff members were running around frantically, and I could tell they are staffed amazingly well. So organized and kind, genuinely smiling at us. I could tell that anyone would be willing to help us, if we needed them! Our waiter, Daniel, came over and again, welcomed us. He let us know the specials of the night and how dinner will be served. Let us know not to touch the 500 degree plates when they arrived. He took out drink orders and answered any question we had. He promptly came back with drinks and fresh, hot rolls!! Daniel took our dinner orders. We all sat and visited while waiting, enjoying our drinks and the hot rolls. Dinner was served on, as promised, hot plates!! Then, they served each of us the crème brûlée corn. All of us that ordered meat, asked for medium rare and we were not disappointed!! Our meats were spot on!!! Perfection!!! The petite filet mignon were very juicy and delicious, as was the New York strip. The Crispy Hasselback Potatoes were so good, especially with the topping. The Crispy Shrimp Deviled Eggs were so good!!! I feel like our meals were simple yet divine!! After we enjoyed dinner, we were served the Ultimate Warm Vanilla Caramel Cake, on the house!! What a nice touch!! So yummy and it felt guilty eating such a fabulous dessert!! We all shared it! All in all, I wish I could give 10/10 stars!! Such a wonderful dinner experience!! The catch of the day was a sea bass which sounded great and over a succotash with a pork gastrique with corn nut crunch. And OMG when I say this was prob the best succotash I've ever had. Super crunchy fresh corn, asparagus, snap peas and bell peppers. The sea bass was also cooked great, very crispy skin and glaze. I'm literally thinking about it now. I also ended up getting the Lost in the Woods dessert which was a delicate chocolate mousse on shortbread with like a candied hazelnut and cookie dust. Every bite was heavenly. I wish I could've tried the other desserts too. I would literally come back to Phoenix just to eat here again. From the great wood grain basement dark ambience to to the raw, regular bar, and multiple sit-down options, we have tried it all. The allure of trying to find a place down in a basement where you have to find the right elevator was pretty bad ass. The hosts along with the waitresses and bar tenders are always welcoming and knowledgeable about their food and drink. I also think it is cool that you can get lockers to store your expensive liquor for return trips. We often come here for drinks and oysters, because my wife loves oysters and they have a wide range of options that aren't exactly cheap, but don't break the bank for freshness and taste. I only really mark down the rating because the menu has been stale over the years and they used to offer elk that is no longer available. Now call that pretentions or snooty, but I think they could use some unique options to keep the experience moving each time you come in. Also, I feel a restaurant of this caliber should be evolving to match their cool vibe and unique experience. I usually get the Wren house beer but feel the beer optiosn are limiting I also feel like some of their cocktails are overpriced, but they are unique compared to other places, so maybe I am just cheap. So really this rating should be more a 4.5. What really brings you back is the cool art on the wall with a Theodore Roosevelt slant and cool sitting areas like a sofa setting in what looks like it would be his old school library. Don't get me wrong everything I have eaten here has been good, but nothing hearkens back like that elk. This place makes for an amazing tinder date if you are willing to drop that cash and make that impression, come here then hop on over to Valley bar and she will think you are magician of illusive locations if she hasn't already been there.

The menu isn't big but we had a hard time choosing since everything looked good. We decided on the elote with bone marrow, hamachi crudo and Pollo asado. I have to say the elote/bone marrow combo is life changing. My husband isn't a fan of elote but he could not stop raving about this dish. It was rich without feeling heavy. The hamachi crudo was SPICY but in the most addicting way. We didn't think it could get better, but the pollo asado was amazing. I prefer dark meat, but had a piece of the breast and it was so juicy. The rajas and frijoles were flavorful. But the best thing on the plate were the quesadillas. I wish they offered it separately. We would've ordered another plate they were that good! I was greeted immediately and had made a reservation so even though my friend hadn't arrived yet, they sat me down. They instantly offered water and menus (food and cocktail). I noticed that the menu seemed very small and the dishes were shareable -- I don't eat meat so I was hoping my friend wouldn't mind sticking with fish and seafood (which she didn't). As soon as I got to my table there was the cutest sign that said welcome to Sarah Sherman and guest -- it was such an adorable and personal touch, I loved that! As soon as my friend got there we immediately both ordered the cold brew old fashioned -- we thought about the espresso martini but this just sounded too good to pass up -- and we were not disappointed! This drink was so tasty and strong. We immediately ordered the bread (sourdough boule) to soak up some of the alcohol as well as some oysters and the salsa. The oysters were so well spiced and were absolutely delicious. But the bread, the bread, the bread -- the server mentioned that it took almost 9 months to develop the bread recipe and it served. It was the best bread and butter that I think I have ever had! The salsa was good but probably was my least favorite of everything and it was still super yummy. We then moved on to the octopus tostadas. Sometimes octopus is not my fav -- it can be too chewy but this was so amazing and incredibly flavorful. It was starting to be my favorite dish until we ordered the Hamachi -- OMG!! Talk about a mouth orgasm-- both my friend and I were yummming it up -- but seriously this bite was so complex with different flavors coming up with every chew -- it has coriander candied peanuts, fermented pineapple, avocado, pickled fresno, toasted coconut and aji amarillo yogurt -- The server mentioned that this was the chef's least favorite dish which I totally do not understand because this was off the charts in my book. We also tried the earl gray whiskey sour, which was light and delicious, and ended with the shrimp toast and the espresso martini. By the way the toast on the shrimp toast was like a little fried dough triangle -- sooooo gooood! The martini was good but the cold brew old fashioned really stole the spotlight for me. Other details I loved that just elevated the experience: Purse hook (very important to me), the little trays for your utensils, metal coasters, incredibly attentive servers, fantastic music, great ambiance and the cutest was the penny they put on top of your check. So cute -- was not expecting such an enjoyable all around experience!! Will be back 1000%!!!
