Honestly, the reviews say it all. We were craving sushi and naturally had to fix that. Since we're still trying to familiarize ourselves with the area we were looking for a new sushi spot to try when we saw the reviews for this restaurant we had to try. We ordered our food for delivery and it came SUPER fast esp since we felt guilty not noticing that we were ordering just before closing. We ordered a variety of rolls but my favorite one was the salmon sunshine one. It tasted fresh and the citrus on top made for incredible flavor through the roll. All in all a great experience esp for takeout! We can't wait to dine in the restaurant since take out sushi is always iffy and we had an incredible experience here. read more

Kinda torn writing this review. The food is good and hits the spot when you're hungry. The ramen and rolls are decent--not mind-blowing. We've had better in bigger cities, but hey, this is Gurnee, and food options are limited. So go here sushi and ramen around here, What really stood out was the service. There was only one server working the whole place, and it was packed. She handled it like a pro and was super sweet, especially with the kids. Her service push this rating from 3.5 stars to 4 stars. Atmosphere: The seats were cozy and Christmasy (maybe this is a word?) They have a sign that says seat yourself but for some reason people were waiting to be seated. We took it upon ourselves to start to seat ourselves and the host came to intervene asap. The dining area is small and comfortable. The Christmas music was low enough volume that conversation was possible. Food: Exceptional! I read another review where a woman said it was the best chicken fried rice she has ever had. I have to say that it was pretty stinking good! My wife enjoyed the sunset role and she said if we lived here this would be her sushi place. Service: Pretty good, nothing to note. Place is small and efficient, no sushi bar, not really decorated too much. Modern Japanese music. We had sashimi platter 15 piece super yummy and good value. Had a couple signature rolls both excellent. No cocktails, beer wine and some sake choices. Service was attentive and friendly. This will be our regular sushi place. read more

Very tasty sushi in a casual atmosphere. This is a small restaurant, casual but nicely decorated. We stopped in for dinner on a Saturday and were seated right away. Service was polite and timely. We ordered a variety of sushi. All tasted very good, our favorite being the Sunset roll. We were excited to try the Black Hawks roll, and although the flavor was good, there were so many spicy elements it made it difficult to taste the king crab in it. I did finally have a chance to visit again (I am not a Gurnee local) and on a weekend this time! It's still in its unassuming strip mall location - but the place is clean and a little modern, but mostly very approachable. We got the sunset maki again cause it's really good with the little acid hit from the lemon. We $plurged with the Black Hawks maki (for the king crab) but I couldn't really taste the king crab because of the overall spiciness of the other ingredients in the roll. Yes, the flower garnish was still included! Swank! Service was good and it gave me an overall fresh, casual and approachable vibe. A wonderful tucked away sushi spot! The service is attentive and quickly delivers on what is ordered. There is always cheerful music playing and a nice atmosphere to enjoy your meal at your pace, never rushed. The food is affordable and delicious, it is the best sushi I personally ever had! The sake selection is also wonderful! I recommend the Hakutsuru "Sayuri" Nigori as the pink bottle is cute and has floral notes. The miso soup is a perfect addition to the sushi, and the bulgogi JFR fried rice has lots of veggies and bulgogi to enjoy and share. The calamari is crispy and fresh, and the Dragon Roll is delicious, topped with eel and avocado. The California Crunch is great, and the Gurnee Roll is the perfect thing for when you are craving crab! My go to will always be the Shrimp Tempura roll and the refreshingly sweet Arnold Palmer's!Everything on the menu is delicious, and is beautifully plated. There are even stunning wooden ships that are used to hold the sushi when the AHA Boat sushi is ordered! I definitely recommend dining at Aha, especially if you love sushi!! read more

I have been going here for years now. I eat from here weekly, if not twice a week just because of the quality of the food, the service, the way it is presented and prepared. I have ordered from here on those cold wintery days, and have spent time in the restaurant in those warm summer months. This is one of my favorite spots in Illinois. No one does sushi better, they constantly over perform their food and constantly are humble about it. They also have excellent pricing for their high quality food. My girlfriend and I go there because it is a safe place to eat, and we are welcomed because we have been eating here for years. I live nearby as well and it is worth the short walk. The ambiance is small hole-in-the-wall type of a restaurant with a few tables. They recently started serving alcoholic beverages and the sake selection is great! Some of my favorite dishes are shown in the photos. My go to favorites are the Shrimp tempura, which can be elevated by getting a dragon roll (which is their shrimp tempura roll but now topped with eel and avocado), the karage which is their fried chicken and it is fantastically crispy and has no bone, they also have their California crunch roll, and new California crunch roll which is deep fried sushi and it is worth it to try and enjoy either of them. They also have amazing crab sushi rolls, and excellent bulgogi and salmon entrees. Their calamari tempura is also really exceptional as I have never seen calamari be done the way they do it. Came here for the first time for date night. The restaurant is small but also does a lot of take out orders. We ordered the tuna poke appetizer which is a whole meal in itself. Served with lettuce, ginger dressing, seaweed salad, cucumber and radish. We also ordered the rock roll and mercy roll. The mercury roll was my favorite. The waitress was very nice. i used to come here for lunch and get a tonkatsu dinner meal. its awesome. the servers are really nice. One time they give me a tonkatsu ramen by mistake. they fixed it though and i got it corrected. the vibes are pretty chill with music and a tv. ive had some rolls here too and they are alright. read more

This used to be a favorite, but the quality has dropped since the last visit. We both ordered the salmon teriyaki bento lunch. My salmon was okay, but my husband said his tasted "off". I tried a small bite and had to agree. Also, I needed to get the waitress to bring some gari (ginger) which she did. But then I realized I had no wasabi (horseradish) but it wasn't worth another wait. In previous visits, a small bowl for soy sauce, wasabi, and gari were presented. There was a container of soy sauce at the table, so we just used it without the extra spice. Also, where the gari used to be on the bento box, nori (seaweed) salad was included ... a couple of forkfuls, but it's an acquired taste - neither my husband nor I ate much. They do a great take-out business ... perhaps they need another waitstaff. One waitress for 3 small tables and one party of 8 and she was "slammed" - ha! read more

5 stars for the sushi, especially the Hamachi Hana Roll, which was absolutely delicious. 4 stars for appetizers. The Agedashi Tofu was decent, while the Korean chicken wings were just ok. Still, they get bonus points for having Korean wings at a sushi place. 3 stars for ambiance/service. Nothing extraordinary, but a little better than expected based on the exterior. 2 stars for the Tonkotsu Ramen, as the broth tasted a little like instant ramen broth. I tried this place with a friend a few years back and I've been wanting to return. Another friend and I stayed in the area recently and I went on a hunt to find this place again. That's how good it is. We got three different of the Special Maki. Black Widow, King Kong and I think the Dragon. I couldn't pick a favorite, they were all just so good. After my first review, the head chef reached out to me. Offering to comp our next meal, and requesting that we try them again. I thought this was a nice, responsive action. A few days later we did try the sushi place again. This experience was much better. I thought the 3 sushi dishes we ordered were made well, and tasted much better. The presentation was also very appealing. I did not try the calamari again. However, the sushi did improve significantly. With this location being a stones throw away from our home., and this 2nd attempt being much superior, I believe we will venture to this location again. We started ordering from AHA Sushi in the middle of the pandemic. They were doing a great job with take-out sushi. The funny thing is, I have never eaten in the restaurant but consider myself a regular patron! The Super White Carpaccio is heavenly and we order it every time! They have two different seaweed salads and both are yummy. My Gyoza last night was a bit disappointing as it was supposed to be pan-fried but it wasn't. The stat of last night's takeout was Hamachi Hana rolls! Yummy! We love Friday nights at home with wonderful sushi and AHA is there for us. Thanks! read more

I feel like this place is some what under rated! They are like low key the sushi Kings of Gurnee. While we dinned in they made so many to go orders it was insane to me the amount of food/ product they were putting out! Lots and lots of Togo orders. I even saw from a dad ( yes I watch ) how they were packing the Togo containers, very neat. The restaurant it's self if very cozy which I didn't mind. It was only a friend and I that came for din in. I ordered an ice green tea, miso soup and two sushi rolls! Everything was ridiculously good. I love salmon with lemon! The sunset roll was perfect for what I was craving! So yummy also got a roll with jalapeño in it because I do like spicy food. They did not skimp on the jalapeño! Super crunchy with a nice kick, I loved it! By the end of our meal we were stuffed and satisfied. The staff was also super friendly our waitress was very attentive without being over the top or annoying. It was easy to order online and when i called to add on another appetizer they were very accommodating. I ordered two bento box lunch meals, one chicken habachi and one bulgogi habachi - the bulgogi was much better than the chicken as i found it to be dry and lacking any kind of flavor. I ordered two sushi rolls, shrimp fried rice and house fried rice. As I began to eat my food I noticed a few pieces of my shrimp had the poo sac in it and the shrimp were not properly cleaned or deveined. When I contacted the restaurant, the staff told me that is "just how our shrimp come" indicating that they don't properly clean their protein. They just cook it as is. I would not recommend going to a restaurant that doesn't take the time to properly clean their food. It makes you wonder what else they do not clean. read more
