A hidden gem of a sushi spot. The high ratings don't lie. Momo Sushi is a great stop to grab sushi to go or dine in. I picked up sushi for dinner on my way to a meeting. When I arrived the young man there was so welcoming and kind. My sushi was excellent. I got a vegetable roll and the soft shell crab roll. They were large pieces packed with ingredients and flavor. To cut to the chase, the sushi burrito itself was pretty decent. The contents inside were distributed evenly and the portion size made me full which is great. However the miso soup was the saltiest thing I've ever had. I couldn't even finish it because I could feel my blood pressure rising just from drinking it. At least the miso soup was free, but they're just throwing money away if they make it unconsumable. read more

Once upon a time this was my family's Go-To Sushi Restaurant. They had reasonable prices, quality product, and friendly Customer Service, but over the years it's Hit or Miss anymore; it's not terrible, but no longer worth the 35 minute commute. The incident that prompted this Review was a really bad experience which landed my wife sick in bed for 3 days after being "Glutened". When we ordered we were very clear to explain that my wife is Gluten-Free, in addition to requesting the GF Soy Sauce, asking if certain menu items contained Gluten or could be substituted with Non-Gluten ingredients, etc. Nevertheless, after ordering a Miami "with no crunch" because of the Gluten, the Server put in the order and the Chef prepared the roll, each one failing to note or mention that the seaweed wrap the Miami Roll is wrapped in is marinated in Tempura, which is otherwise "crunch", and fully made with Gluten! After having already eaten several pieces she noticed a larger piece on the wrap. We inquired about it and were advised that the Roll us Deep Fried with Tempura on it, and that it cannot be prepared any other way. The Server asked if we wanted something else, which my wife declined, and then left the remaining pieces of the roll for me to finish rather than throwing it out. When we received our Bill, we were charged full price for the Roll despite their potentially dangerous, negligent mistake, and no additional compensation was offered. I felt this was poor Customer Service but we paid without making a fuss since I had finished the remaining pieces of the Roll, and we're not really complainers. The Server was no less a nice young lady, and she seemed fairly new. It was on the way home that the consequence of their oversight set in, and my wife started feeling more and more ill by the minute. If you've ever seen someone or have been Glutened, you know what it's like... for the next 3 days she was in bed with a pounding headache, aching in her joints, nauseous, and unable to eat much. We don't think we're likely to be returning for another visit after this experience. In light of the Bigger Picture problems that have crept up over the years, getting what is essentially careless and avoidable Food Poisoning without even the basic Restaurant common courtesy of having that order removed from the Bill has quite literally put a bad taste in our mouth. Mo Mo sushi is located conveniently in a plaza off of US 45. Plenty of parking spaces, and tidy little place. Two positive things that really stood out to me about this place was that the shrimp tempura was really tender, shrimp meat was semi translucent, as opposed to the more thoroughly cooked ones where it becomes chewy and hard. Secondly, the quality of the sashimi was really good imo because it did not have extra chewy/leathery parts of the fish, where I would normally find in hwe dup bap. Momo burrito-- this is simple and delicious, fresh and flavorful. No particular taste or texture stands out, which is good since there are several types of sashimi inside. it's not super big and is kind of flat, so it is actually pretty easy to eat. Something I would be happy to eat on a regular basis. King Kong fried roll-- the topping really surprised me, the thinly shredded fried bits really add to the texture. Within the roll there were some flavored rice, and all the ingredients added up tasting good without being greasy even though it's all fried. There is cream cheese in this roll though. Caterpillar roll and Atlantic roll-- both were good, creamy, tender, and fresh. Tried these pretty basic rolls specifically just to see the quality of the food. They were heavier on the sauce, which is fine because rolls tend to dry out, but the extra sauce made it tender and creamy. My daughter was surprised by the green tobiko/masago as opposed to orange ones! Korean Chirashi-- pleasantly surprised at the quantity and quality. Sashimi did not have weird taste, and texture was smooth and no chewy parts. The thinly shredded veggies were really fresh too, and the other veggies were just iceberg lettuce, I think. Overall, I think the quality of food was definitely above average. Price is on the higher end though, with each item well over $10. But I think this place is still worth it! Next time I think I want to try these rolls: yellow submarine, tataki tuna, terminate, and chicago crazy. And maybe the screaming orgasme appetizer. read more

Not really a fan. 1. The sushi is not cold, it's room temperature-- been here 3x, all 3x room temperature food. W raw fish, this scares me. No I have never been sick. I have had many different things from the menu, nothing spectacular. It's not horrible, basic rolls are ok/good. I just did not love it like some of the reviews. read more

When I tried to call the restaurant, the phone was disconnected. Update: my wife got through on the phone, and they hung up on her before she could even say hello. We have ordered from them a dozen times, and will never do so again. Contemptible customer service. Second update: working on two hours. They won't complete the order and my dasher tells me he's seen them start and finish 6 other orders while ours is still unfinished. Third update: On the 10th attempt, got someone on the phone. She lied multiple times to say that the food was on its way. While she was lying, my dasher was texting me (he could hear her talking to me on the phone) to tell me that the order was still not finished. read more

I rarely post on Yelp, but this place is top tier. High quality sushi and they give you a lot for your money.

This place replaced an old favorite of mine and I think I actually like it more than the old place. I generally go for lunch and get one of their lunch specials. My go-to is the sashimi box which also comes with miso soup. The portion is very generous for the price ($12.95) and always leaves me full when I leave. The staff of courteous and the restaurant is always clean. They also have sushi burritos which I haven't seen at many other sushi spots. I ordered the Momo Roll and asked for light rice and it was great. I'm looking forward to trying the other flavors in the future. read more

My server said Momo had been open only 3 weeks when I visited in late April. I arrived about 7pm midweek and was quickly seated, helped with the menu, and served. Except for sushi burritos much of the menu is pretty standard. That's not criticism. Momo delivered on a sashimi combo of 9 pieces (chef's choice). A typical iceberg lettuce salad with ginger dressing, and bowl of miso soup were included. This all for a nice price of $15. I liked 8 of the sashimi selections, which included favorites like salmon, tuna, sea bass, eel, and a few others. The 9th piece was octopus. While visually exciting on the tray it was just too chewy to enjoy. Asian steak, seafood, and chicken dishes are available if sushi, sashimi, or maki aren't your choices. I saved room for dessert--vanilla ice cream doused with chocolate sauce over a small, warm, sweet waffle. Simple, tasty, and just the right amount. Momo is a comfortable, casual spot that would be good for date night, celebration, or business dining. read more

Local sushi place we decided to try on a weekday. You have to call in to order ahead. We went with the momo roll, Godzilla roll, volcano roll and chicken yaki udon. Special rolls are around $12 and a maki roll is $5/6. I believe it was pretty reasonably priced and the sushi tasted good. The chicken yaki udon was good as well. Fantastic. To find a little sushi place that provides fresh fish with a little innovation and excellent service is great but to find it hidden in a little strip mall in Mundelein is Fantastic! Was a little skeptical on the sushi burrito but after trying the Momo & the Cry Cry burritos...I'll be trying the others soon, so good!! The cry cry had a little heat which was a pleasant surprise and the Momo was just flat out delicious. The rolls are great, too (had the shrimp roll & spicy scallops roll).
