My review is for takeout- and unfortunately the delivery app we used took absurdly long. Not the restaurant's fault at all!!! Can't wait to actually dine in because I bet it would be a 5 star place. King Kong Roll- OMG.... so freaking delicious. Huge huge roll that is super flavorful and fresh on the inside. Highly recommend. Aha Ninja Special Roll- very fresh and flavorful but it is spicy! In a good way, but just be aware. Miso Soup- loved it, everything you want in miso soup. Chicken Yakisoba- great presentation and colorful, but the flavor was very different than what you would expect. Almost curry and gingery? Wasn't our favorite. read more

It's a no from me, dawg. I should really stop there and let the no speak for itself but In the spirit of an accurate review...I have been wanting sushi for days! Our first time ordering from this restaurant. The veggie sushi rolls were weird. They were usually veggies within the roll- almost like they just used whatever happened to be left over. A bizarre combo. I even said to myself, is that a pickle in there? That's when you know something ain't right. Miso soup was blah. Veggie rolls were maybe the worst I've had, soy sauce did help the situation though. My husband's sushi was decent but again maybe a 3/5 for that. We were straight up disappointed and hungry after. I hate to be this critical, as we haven't had anything else on the menu and the restaurant does have 4 stars. I would be cautious to try again though in fear of another $50 disappointment OH! And I forgot we ordered the calamari and for this I AM going to say "no" and let that just be what it is because absolutely not. read more

I've ordered here 4 times since 2014. In 2014 I got food poisoning from a scallop roll I ordered. I love sushi and it took me until this year 2020 to try them out again since the reviews were good. Today on my 4th and final order, I found a bug on the 3rd piece of 2 rolls I ordered. Don't think I have to say much but I will NEVER order from this place again. Wonderful place! There's only ten tables so make a reservation if you have a big party. I ordered 32 pieces of nigiri.. yes, 32. All we're fabulous but my favorites are fatty salmon, white tuna and Unagi. It's not cheap by any means but after spending $150.00 the owners gave me a few pieces of nigiri which is fabulous. Never complain about free food. The owners are nice. Korean music was playing so they might be Korean instead of Japanese? It doesn't matter and just thought I'd point that out. I love BTS so great choice of music! I Stan them so much.. Anyway, the staff was attentive and on a busy Saturday night with only one server, she did well and was patient and polite when I had placed multiple orders because my eyes are apparently bigger than my stomach. Kudos. I live a few hours away from Aha Sushi so it's definitely not going to be a place I frequent and I was only in town to celebrate Labor Day weekend but next time I'm in town, I'll be sure to make another visit here! I first visited this restaurant before living in Japan, and now returned to be mostly pleased with Aha Sushi. The ambiance and overall food presentation does Japan justice, everything is beautifully crafted. I tried the miso soup, which is usually a pretty good gauge to the restaurants authenticity. It had good flavor but was a little diluted compared to the real stuff- but was was great with seaweed and tofu inside. The gyoza tasted great and was perfectly cooked, just wasn't authentic. But again, you have to know what to expect in an American Japanese restaurant. I had the Cy Sake Maki, it was great! Very filling, and lots of good flavors and sauces. (Of course, maki is rarely served at all in Japan and certainly not with all the toppings, but nevertheless it was great:) I will definitely be returning and trying some more authentic-looking food they had on the menu. We spent over $75 on a pickup order and was informed upon arrival that our request to deep fry a Philly roll wasn't accounted for on the online order. I was asked to pay $6 extra to complete the order. $6 to deep fry a basic $8 roll.... That is ridiculous. We came in on a busy Friday night/evening during Black Friday. The place was full and after looking around at other tables it seemed that they only had 1 server this whole night taking on more than 6 tables the whole time we had dinner. Even one table of 4 ended up walking out and I felt so bad for the server because she was extremely busy. The service was unfortunately much slower than anyone would like to have but our family wasn't bothered by waiting and didn't want to give the server more stress as it is. We luckily had enough time to just catch our server once to place our drink and entire food order right away so we wouldn't need to flag her down. We ordered the sweet chili Korean chicken wings for an appetizer and we all ordered our own sushi to share and ramen bowl. I got the Kimchi Ramen Bowl which was good but the spice kept building up in each bite! Everyone really enjoyed the food and were happily full after our meal. read more

Nice ambiance. Attentive service. Where Aha falls apart is the food. We had gyoza, udon soup, and tempura. The tempura was crispy, but there was too much batter and the batter on the shrimp seemed different than on the veggies. The dipping sauce was close to the correct flavor, but not quite right. The gyoza seemed like they were the frozen kind, not hand made, but the dipping sauce was good. The real disappointment was the udon soup - completely flavorless. I even tried my husband's Pepsi to be sure I hadn't lost my sense of taste! (Nope. The soup was flavorless.) Even the green tea was much too weak. Forgettable food. Can't recommend. read more

Overall decent sushi for this area and I would order again. With that said, the fried rice was very bland and I'm not sure why there are so many rave reviews. My husband and I stopped by on a Friday evening around 7pm. There were people crowded by the entrance, so I thought there would be a wait. We walked in and we're seated immediately. You can tell that they get a lot of takeout business because delivery drivers were in and out of the place. Once you walk in, there is a table where the server has all the takeout orders. Anyway. We sat down and ordered the tempura calamari and two sushi rolls, the Rock and the Crunch Melt. The calamari came first and it was pretty good. The only thing was that the calamari was a bit rubbery, but I didn't mind. Also I would have preferred a sweeter sauce to come with it. Still delicious. Then came out our sushi. My favorite was the Rock and my husband loves the Crunch Melt. For me, the Crunch Melt was a little hot. It was still good, but I was just so hungry I wanted to eat and not wait for it to cook down. No biggie. The rock was perfect though. Shrimp tempura and crabmeat . There was only one server that was doing most of the work and a couple other employees here and there that would help out. The server did a great job handling all the customers and delivery orders. My husband and I both agreed that this is now our go-to sushi spot. Definitely will be back to try more! read more

Aha! This cute little place diffidently had me feeling happy and full when i left! I just LOVED there Dashi Tofu! There's plenty of small or larger option tables, and the food comes out fast. Our waitress was nice enough, nothing to complain about. The restaurant is located at the end of the shopping complex next to a Mexican join (Momcorn), but not hard to find. There is plenty of parking, but getting out of the complex can be annoying since you can only turn left from the Washington Street entrance but there are two lanes of on coming traffic in both directions. You can also ask the staff for a fork and knife if eating with chopsticks isn't your thing. read more

The chefs treated us to a complimentary appetizer they are testing out. I would 100% come back here again. I love that it's small. Hands down the best asian food I have had in a while. They're very accommodating to our vegan dietary restrictions and have tons of options. We ordered a sweet potato tempura roll, which was crispy, flavorful and perfectly cooked. The miso soup took the cake for the best dish. It's so flavorful has a lot of quality while still being vegan by default. My entire family was raving about this restaurants' food! Checked this place out on a friends recommendation of the all you can eat sushi he had there before. We were a little bummed to not see any all you can eat option on the menu, but we gave it a try and were rewarded with a great meal. Started with the ahi poke tuna. Honestly we were expecting something with more soy sauce and seasonings as we've had in Hawaii. The fresh tuna made up for the marinade we are so use too. It definitely made us more open minded of how poke should look and taste. Though we still prefer more of a soy flavor with it, the pole here was definitely a good try. Other starters were my miso soup which was standard and the wife's seaweed salad which came served on top the house salad you would normally get at Japanese/habachi places with the ginger dressing nice pairing. For the main event we picked a couple mako rolls and 2 special rolls. Our standard rolls are always spider(wife's favorite) and spicy tuna. We added the spicy crawfish roll because we'd never had crawfish before and wanted to see if we were missing anything magical. Crawfish roll isn't magical but that might be the crawfish they are using (I'm guessing frozen). Spicy tuna was good, we'd say slightly above average from other places. Spider roll was equally tasty so we're off to a great start. The two special rolls we got were the KING KONG & TOYKO DRIFT. We thought both were outstanding. After reading other reviews it seems like the special rolls are what set this place apart. This is the way it's suppose to be right? I'm guessing the owner is also head sushi chef. You get a lot of a small family run business feel with minimal help. We picked those two because they sounded tasty and didn't have cream cheese. King Kong edges out the Tokyo Drift according to our taste buds. Not sure how often we'll be back as we live in Wisconsin, but this place is definitely worth checking out and of were child-less in the area we would definitely stop in again read more

Love Aha! One of my favorite sushi places in Gurnee! They are one of the pricier places but their roles are incomparable. To start, they have wonderful seaweed salad, that's served over ice berg and with ginger dressing, so it's like two salads in one. I like sushi, but my favorite roles are the ones that get creative and combine a variety of flavors. If you're sushi-picky like myself, my favorite roles are the Big Mama (very indulgent) and the King of the Crab (which has crab piled high on top). My favorite cheaper roll is probably the Gurnee roll, which is simple and a little spicy. Never have had any problems here, staff are friendly enough, and service was quick for me. I have been to aha a couple of times before , tonight we had the King Kong as well as the California crunch maki . The King Kong unfortunately was a bit too fishy tasting. To drink I had the green tea which was a bit bland. Nothing special. I also ordered the hypnotic Long Island which I did enjoy a lot! It was a great drink, I enjoyed that it wasn't overly sweet. We went here for a Navy boot camp graduation dinner and it was perfect! A reserved table was waiting for us when we arrived. It was a quiet, casual spot where our sailor could relax and enjoy time with the family. The food was delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. There was a lot of attention to detail.
