This shop was recommended but I found it to be worst customer service ever. I was in 3 times, no one had a clue what was wrong with my older Saturn Ion. I was charged for basic diagnostics twice that had no results. I was overcharged for so-called tune up and replacing thermostat, and when it QUIT AGAIN and this was explained to owner, he said must be the fuel pump. Nope! Not fuel pump! Owner was brusque and made two critical references to type of car I have. Fortunately, found an excellent shop where mechanic quickly figured out the problem--and nicest people ever. I love this place. We take all 5 of our vehicles here. It doesn't really matter the service, but my vehicles always seem to come back running smoother than before; everything from an oil change to getting my clutch worked on. Emily at the front counter is super nice and I think I must bug her more often than is normal. I always seem to need something looked at, because we have a few much older vehicles. She is always so patient and kind. I just bought a jeep, which with used vehicles, you just never know what you're getting into. I took it to them and they did a post purchase service so they look over everything. It gave me a lot of peace of mind. I guess maybe their prices could be considered a little higher but personally, I think they're average for the quality work they do. I always have peace of mind my vehicle will come back better than before and never worry something funky might happen or be overlooked. I thought I needed a new clutch but John saved me some money and said the clutch master cylinder needed to be replaced. Literally saved me a couple thousand dollars. I called an got a quote on the phone for a oil change for my 2016 BMW 328i for around $100, that was fine it what the dealers are charging. when I got there for my appointment I was handed a invoice for a little over $200 claiming that there was a special oil for my car due to it being an SULEV vehicle. I called 2 different dealerships talked to 2 different parts departments ( one said was it liquid gold?) and they all said its standard OW-30 for that car. What a relief to find this place where, instead of a slick waiting room with coffee machines and TV, I can watch my car lifted and inspected and worked on all out in the open instead of whisked out of sight. My name is Walner and I recently just brought my 2009 VW GTI to this shop for the first time. I initially had my car towed here on Thursday the 21st, because it was misfiring really badly. On Friday the 22nd at around 4:30pm they call me to tell me that all they did was switch the spark plugs and coils around to differently cylinders and that the car was "fine" after that. I told them that there is definitely more to the problem then just switching the spark plugs and coils around. So they kept the car to continue "looking" for the problem. I drove by late Friday afternoon and I noticed car was sitting outside, which means that they didn't bother to look at it and lied to me about doing all these different diagnostics. On Saturday the 23rd I decided to give them a call to find out any new updates on my car. The person that I spoke with on the phone told me the exactly same thing that they had told me on Friday. And once again I told them that there has to be more to the problem. Yesterday Tuesday the 26th they call me and spoke with the owner as of what was happening with my car and again... he tells me the same exact thing, "he recommends replacing all coils and all spark plugs. So I decided to go in person and spoke with the owner about what needs to be done to get the car running normal again. He was still saying that I needed to replace my coils. I asked him to start the car for and after a couple minutes of the car being on I noticed smoke coming out from under the intake manifold. And it turned out that it was a brass fitting that they had messed with when they did the "fuel pressure test" was leaking fuel. They claim that they performed a fuel pressure test and that fuel pressure seemed to be normal at "50bar" when in reality the car was leaking fuel from the fuel rail. After almost a week of having my car all they did was throw in a new coil and tighten up the brass fitting to stop the fuel leak. Public announcement: These mechanics, especially the owner are not knowledgeable, very unprofessional, and lie to clients about diagnostics. I highly recommend not bringing your cars for service here. And if you do please be aware that they won't always tell you the truth. read more

I really tried to work with this place, but the lack of respect I was paid and the quality of work was abysmal. I took my vintage Mercedes here to fix and timing issue that I actually caused when replacing my timing chain. The timing chain slipped when I fed in the new one and the car missed and stumbled ever since. I took it to AIR and told them exactly what happened and what needed to happen to get the car back running correctly. I made sure it was noted for the mechanic that worked on it. I was then presented a bill for over $3200.00 dollars in unnecessary repairs, on top of it they didn't correct the timing and John argued with me about how the timing was correct in the book and this was either bad gas or a fuel distributor. Ignoring the fact that I told them that the car ran just fine prior to me doing the timing chain. I called back sometime later and tried to get them to stand by their work and make it right. They said to bring it back in, so I reiterated what was wrong and how to fix it, also in the mechanic notes. To top it off I was presented with a bill for $900.00 with another $900.00 in recommended unnecessary repairs. The car timing was not corrected as I told them needed to be done. Then they made the excuse that it's bad gas again (even though the gas was fresh), the motor mounts needed to be changed and that these Mercedes never ran smoothly from the factory!! Anyone that owns a W126 Mercedes knows that's complete BS. I tried to call and email them to work out a resolution, no response. This place is just interested in replacing parts at your expense, find someplace else this place is hot garbage at best, you and your car deserve better. Run from this place, don't let the good reviews fool you, read the negative reviews first, it's where the truth is!! read more

I knew it would happen eventually- my BMW went out of warranty. Had an oil change yesterday at the dealership, and they noticed an oil leak. My friend once told me BMW repairs only came in $1000 increments, and true to form the estimate made my eyes water. Swung by AIR this morning they got the job done for less than half the other estimate, plus they pressure washed the engine bay too (same day on a 5 hour job). The icing on the cake? One of my cornering lamps was out and the dealership wanted $150 just to figure out what was wrong. I didn't mention it, but the guys at AIR noticed it and threw in a new bulb and charged me only for the part- $7. Great experience. read more

I had my 1989 VW Syncro single cab truck towed in to A.I.R. with a locked up rear wheel. Within a couple hours, I had a detailed estimate of the problem, along with a few issues I was not aware of. A couple that needed to be addressed now, and a couple to keep an eye on. No pressure to have it all done at once...which is common with other shops. Two days later, my VW was as good as new. I said I would hold on it. 6 month later and I need another oil change and a check engine light came on. I decided to take it to air import because I had read the reviews and thought why not and give them a shot. I'm so glad I did. They go above and beyond To make your experience with them so much better. The 200 dollar halo light fix that European motors had quoted for me, air imports did it for me for 16 bucks. I was promised a courtesy inspection when I made the appointment. I took time off work to get to the shop on time. Due to COVID, they also don't allow people to wait inside. I knew that beforehand and was prepared to walk several blocks to the nearest store. I dropped my keys off and confirmed that I was here for a courtesy inspection. 15 minutes later, after I had walked four blocks in the cold, I get a call from the shop asking if I want a diagnostic because those cost money. I said no, just a visual inspection. I was then told that visual inspections cost $65 unless I'm getting work done. Did I schedule an appointment to get work done? No. I scheduled an inspection and was told it was free. It seems like this shop is hurting for business and is comfortable luring customers in with false promises. The sad part is, I could have easily paid the $65 if that had been communicated up front. But, I won't do business with dishonest shops. What a waste of time. read more

I've just had a very frustrating experience with A.I.R. Import Repair. I had them perform the 100k mile maintenance on my wife's VW. When I came to pick up my vehicle they recommended I have the drive axle replaced stating that the cv boot was torn. Wanting the vehicle to be in good running condition, as it is my wife's car, I had them replace the drive axle ($300). I picked up and paid for the work. Here is where the problems began. Items that were supposed to have been done in the 100K maintenance per the list that AIR stated had been done, were not completed. The car now had a LOUD vibration at 3800 rpms that was not there before the work that AIR did. The interactions that followed and the way that AIR responded to my concerns have left me with NO confidence in the quality of work that they provided. Each time a problem was fixed, they found and identified a NEW problem even after having previously inspected that area finding nothing wrong. read more

AIR was amazing! I live in Portland and was in Tacoma for the day and my check engine light came on. I took it in based on a recommendation from my car's warranty provider and their service was amazing. Karlo was super helpful and understanding, and seemed genuinely concerned about me driving back to Portland with this issue. He was familiar with my warranty provider and looked at the contract to make sure my issue would be covered. He didn't have the part I needed at first, but within minutes he located one at a different place and it was delivered in like an hour. They ran a diagnostic and got in touch with my warranty provider and confirmed it would be covered and explained everything so clearly. They didn't try to push any other services on me or sell me something. Karlo gave me advice about taking my car in regularly for inspections (which I wasn't doing) and offered to look up some good places in Portland. He seemed like a genuinely good guy with the customer's best interest in mind. They even offered to give me a ride somewhere while my car was being worked on. I had an appointment (that I could walk to, luckily) and I got a text a couple hours later that said my car was ready and everything was covered, I just had to pay the deductible for my warranty. BY FAR the best and easiest experience I've had at any auto shop. 11/10 would take my car there again. read more

Last December, when I was living in California, I was quoted 475 dollars to fix a small leak in the rack and pinion on my 2006 PT Cruiser. I couldn't afford it, so I put it off, and obviously, the problem got worse. When I moved up to Washington I immediately took it back to AIR, where John had provided me exceptional service before. Ok here's the story about my experience with this company. My 2004 Volkswagen Touareg driver's side headlight went out. My car uses the Bi-Xenon HID system and the bulbs can be expensive. Thinking that it was just a burnt out bulb I went to O'Reilly's and bought a new one. After replacing it, the headlight was still out. I finally broke down and went to an auto shop to have it inspected. AIR Import diagnosed that the headlight was blowing fuses and the main control module for the headlight needed to be replaced. It was $625.00 for the part! After the parts and labor I was almost a thousand dollars into a headlight repair. I later researched the same part online (OEM brand new) for around $250. After they installed the control module the mechanics said that the new headlight bulb I had purchased didn't work so I paid an additional $185 to have another one installed. I was now well over a thousand dollars for a simple repair. Although most repair shops roughly charge between $90-100 for hourly labor, I felt that AIR Import failed to address the best possible repair to potentially save me, the customer, money. This was a total scam. On top of that, a few hours after the repair, the headlight went out again. I gave it a little TLC with my fist which tightened up the connection on the back of the headlight. I also replaced the original bulb I bought from O'Reilly's and found out that it also worked. I called AIR Import to dispute and possibly be reimbursed for their false assessment which cost me money. They refused to take the bulb back and showed very poor customer service and retainability for any future services. I would never recommend this company to anyone. Understandably, when you own a European vehicle like Audi, BMW, or Volkswagen it is probable that you may spend more on parts than a GM vehicle. However, AIR Import was outrageous in how they assessed the problem as it seemed to be only geared towards profits. Buy-and-large, it is important for mechanic shops to maintain a good customer base to stay in business because mechanics are a dime-a-dozen and they don't receive constant business. Also, for their "policies" to not have any room for reimbursement is ridiculous. I did most of my business with the manager/owner John Smith. AIR Import has been operating for 30 years with John the last 10 years. If they want to continue for another 30 years they better come up with some better policies and customer service. I would never recommend this place to anyone regardless of the vehicle make. There are plenty of European mechanic shops out there who will provide better mechanical service and customer care. read more
