If you are in Northern Virginia and searching for an HONEST air conditioner and heating technician Darius is the one to call. I recommend him highly and can't recommend anyone else. Honest clear answers are the key to finding someone who isn't solely looking for an excuse to sell you a new unit. Darius is your guy. First time I turned on my furnace I noticed there was some water in the tray below the burner. I then noticed a tube that was disconnected by the previous technician who had installed a new air conditioning system over the summer. I called the previous technician who is lucky to remain unnamed here. After all, we had paid him $5000 to install a new air conditioning system so he could at least come over to see what was going on with the furnace, especially since he didn't hook up the drainage tube. He came over and said a lot of inconclusive things, but after a while started waving a CO wand around and telling me he thought I needed a new furnace because my heat exchanger was shot and CO was leaking. Pretended to be unhappy that he was going to have to charge me $5000 twice. No longer having any confidence in him, I called a major company with decent yelp ratings. Guy did show up the next morning at 7 am. He looked at the unit for a little while and said the slow water leak (about a table spoon an hour) meant that the heat exchanger was bad and we needed a new furnace. He said the heat exchanger was "clogged" and thus leaking and was a sign of rusted out secondary heat exchanger. He said if there was water outside the heat exchanger, it could only come from a hole in a rusted heat exchanger. He admitted I could run the unit safely, but said that I had to have a new furnace, which he estimated at 4 to 7 thousand dollars depending on the unit. I thought about this and decided that he had not really explained why he was so sure I needed a new unit. So I spent the whole afternoon looking at ratings for companies in Northern Virginia. What I noticed is that nearly all have some highly negative ones and most of the positive ones are for people who called a service, were told that they needed a new unit and had the new unit put in quickly and easily and didn't have any further problems. That is the "service" these companies want to provide. And they won't tell you what they are actually paying for the unit, but it usually ranges from 1500-2500 dollars and then they install it in an afternoon or a day, for 5 to 7 thousand dollars--making a hefty profit. Much easier than trying to actually work on your existing unit, or telling you that you don't need a unit. Darius is not in that same business. He was the only one I could find with no negative ratings after hours of searching. I called Darius at about 5:45 pm and he worked it out to come over at 9-10 the next morning and came over at about 9:30, calling before he came. Perfect--he did what he said he was going to do. Dairus came in and took one look at the unit and asked if water had been leaking. I had dried up the water since I wanted to see if he knew what he was doing. I said yes, but how did you know? He said I can see the trails. I explained to Darius the situation. He showed me exactly where the small crack was in the plastic around a screw where the gasket was leaking slightly. He showed me that because of the water streaks, this had been going on for some time, possibly for years and was not affecting the performance of the unit. I told him that the prior technician had said the heat exchanger was "clogged." Darius said no its not clogged and then showed me--he blew into the tube that drains the heat exchanger. It was not clogged. I told Darius that the two other technicians recommended replacement of the furnace due to a blown secondary heat exchanger. Darius showed me how to look at the flames in the burner to see if there was a problem with the heat exchanger--he said yes, its an old unit and one of the burners flame is slightly distorted so there may be some rust but the heat exchangers are not blown, because the flames are pretty much the right shapes. You can go at least another year safely. And Darius explained that there was no need to worry about CO at the levels the previous tech had monitored-probably came from one of the engines on the blower. So Darius said that I could get the gasket replaced but that would cost about 400 dollars. We agreed that unless the leak increases greatly it's probably no problem. That's a lot of detail, but the bottom line is that I am fine with my furnace and Darius saved me from spending 5000 dollars and I have complete confidence that he knows what he is talking about. He demolished the B.S. that I was hearing from the other techs who just wanted to sell me a new furnace. USE DARIUS! He is trustworthy and most of the others are not! read more

Highly recommended, here is some back story. Our HVAC was leaking water and we had another company come out twice to try and diagnose the issue. Essentially we were told that due to the angle of the coil, there was nothing that could be done and that this was "normal"...even after explaining to them that this was the first time in seven years this has happened, they fix was either to replace the whole coil (at least $2K) even though the unit was cooling fine, or put bowls in the HVAC to catch the water. So we looked for a second opinion and came across Air One Tech. Victor came out one week, was on time and gave a call ahead to let me know he was on the way. He came out, inspected everything and concluded that the HVAC unit was not level. So I scheduled another appointment for Victor and his boss Dariush to come out (as this was a two man job) and level the HVAC. It took a couple hours but they got it leveled properly. Its been a couple days now and the leaking has appeared to stop. The water used to drip constantly throughout the day so the fact that it has stopped ever since they left makes me think the problem is fixed. Both Victor and Dariush were knowledgeable, friendly, on-time, and a pleasure to work with. If I had to nit-pick a downside, I would say they are more on the expensive side compared to other companies, but honestly you get what you pay for. The prior company we were using didn't charge much but were clearly not as knowledgeable and likewise would have cost me more if I just replaced everything like the recommended. So at the end of the day, paying the premium was worth it especially considering they fixed the issue! I highly recommend Air One Tech!!! read more

He pleasant and patient. * As the technician worked, he explained all, and took pictures of the readings on his meters as well as the blower wheel and AC coils before and after cleaning. * Blower Wheel: Removed assembly, sprayed cleaner on, and washed with outdoor hose. He dried and then replaced the assembly. * AC Coils: Sprayed cleaner (same as blower wheel) and rinsed. * The cleaning solution was more than the over the counter simple cleaners - it was strong smelling and clearly a commericial product * The technician advised spraying the AC unit monthly during the cooling season to keep the dust and dirt from accumulating on the coils so that it will run more efficiently *Pricing: The tune up price may be a bit higher than some that advertise but it was worth it. We decided to sign up for their membership for 2 reasons - 1. The service. We will have them back in the fall. 2. Though I rarely write reviews, I felt compelled to do this based on my recent experience with Air One Tech. They were prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. The blower motor in our 15 year old system went out abruptly and like many of you, we had to scramble to get it fixed. Dariush (the owner) , went through all the options with us, and allowed me to conduct my own research with no added pressure. While I went back and forth on whether or not to buy the new motor or replace the whole system, Dariush willingly ordered the spare part anyway, so that I would have both as an option. We ended up installing a whole new system and the entire Air One Tech team were fantastic. Israel and his partner did an outstanding job with the install, and Jamie (Office Manager) was an absolute pleasure to work with, continuously went out of her way to assist, and consistently provided useful information. My family was in a tough spot and Air One Tech went out of their way to squeeze us into an already full schedule and take care of us. Look, nobody enjoys waking up to find out that they have to spend a bunch of money fixing their A/C. It's a bad day no matter how you slice it. However, if you have to do it, you might as well do it with a company that is going to do everything in their power to get you back to normal as quickly as possible and at a fair price. My furnace tripped its breaker and I called Air One Tech as my previous HVAC company had left me disappointed several times. They responded the same day and diagnosed the issue (additionally walking me through the cause step-by-step). The remedy was a replacement of the furnace as I had a cracked heat exchanger, and to ensure efficiency I replaced the AC portion of the system. I was an engineer in a prior career and I understand the scamsters that are prolific in this region (an area that is bereft of quality and high on cost). I called Air One Tech back in the summer after a lightning strike damaged my AC. Dariush was able to diagnose the damage and rearranged his schedule to make the repair quickly so the AC was working before a string of 90+ degree days. Fast forward to the winter. I didn't hesitate to call Dariush when we noticed the furnace humidifier wasn't working. We scheduled the repair for later in the week on a day that was convenient for me. The next evening, the heat stopped working. I emailed Dariush late that evening and he again rearranged his schedule to arrive the next morning to fix the furnace and the humidifier at the same time. He also re-did some wiring by a prior HVAC contractor that was sub-par at no extra charge. The technician, Mahmoud, actually came twice and he did a very thorough check the second time trying to find the reason why my AC kept tripping the breaker, and he finally found it, it was a loose wire. We were very happy with Air One Tech's technician, Victor. Our heat pump had stopped cooling a week ago, so it needed service. Victor diagnosed the problem as a capacitor that was no longer working. He replaced it and the unit started functioning as it should. He checked the air circulator (in a crawl space) and found a condensation drain to be clogged, so he cleaned it. We discussed our Carrier unit and its history. Although it now seems to be working again as it should, I asked about replacement options if we should have a serious breakdown, since the unit is 12 years old. Victor seemed very knowledgeable in discussing the options. He was also personable and friendly. I felt he knew his business. We decided to sign up for Air One Tech's regular maintenance program. First, the technician called me to let me know he was 40 minutes out. Getting a heads up as to when he'd actually be there during the 4 hour service window was wonderful. The technician was pleasant, explained things to me, and didn't assume I was inept just for being a woman (as has been the case with many service technicians over the years). The problem with the heat pump was a short and it took a lot of back and forth - up and down the stairs and outside- but he found the problem. He was diligent about finding the source of the problem, and I am very grateful. Previous service technicians asserted "There's a short. We don't know where. You'll probably need a new heat pump". Air One Tech was referred to us by our Weichert home warranty in order to fix a boiler that leaked in our basement. It took two weeks to order a part and when the company came back to fix and install the new part - they spilled new water and ripped upped old tile. They just left the mess and claimed that it was in that condition when they arrived. I have date stamped photos to prove otherwise. To add - the boiler still does not work and is now leaking from some other area. Air One Tech has refused to come back out to relook at the work and fulfill on their garuntee of service. They have refused to clean up the mess they made. They have completely dismissed themselves of the situation and are referrring us back to our home warranty company. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY! We experienced major issues with our furnace this last winter because of the freezing weather. I got really lucky with Air One Tech. We had an old heat pump ,just to be specific Rheem, and it was nothing more than a trouble!! summers not keeping the house even close to desired temperature, winters not warm and too expensive to use the heat! finally compressor gave in and we decided to pull the trigger! I got few quotes all kind of brands! We called Air One Tech due to their reputation, they offered Trane system, the only brand they sell. price was not the lowest, wasn't the highest either. We finished our attic space shortly after moving into our new home in 2011. We used the same HVAC the builder used. Apparently they took the easy/lazy route when routing the air from the furnace (right next to the attic) to the attic space and didn't go off the main line cause it was too hard to get to. Airflow was horrible and it was hotter than hell in the afternoons, summer months and the stairwell up to the attic. Air One Tech came in, gave an honest assessment of the work (to go off the main lines) and cost and totally changed the temperature in the attic at a very reasonable price. Our AC compressor fan stopped working last night. My neighbor strongly suggested I call Air One Tech, which I did the next morning. They were available only late that afternoon, but with the temperature and humidity rising - I wanted to get it fixed ASAP. After I described what was happening, they diagnosed it over the phone. Since two other places I called couldn't come for at least a day, I scheduled the service visit and got a text message back confirming the appointment. Before noon I received another text message saying that a technician, Daniel, was on the way. Within about 20 minutes, he had confirmed the problem and replaced the failed part. Finding this HVAC company is why I like Yelp - the reviews are spot on. Very professional service, and honest folks to deal with. Our heater went out, and at a very bad time! I felt confident that we were due for a new furnace, given the age and the issues we were having. The Air One Technician came by, was able to sort out the issue (a faulty safety shut off) and walked me through the workings of my particular system. Quick, efficient, no up-selling, and honestly stated that our furnace appeared fine, and we should be set for the foreseeable future. HVAC issues are no small financial matter. They deserve their 5 star reviews because Dariush truly provides 5 star service. Dariush followed up on a previous service call after I had concerns about my HVAC output. He personally spent a lot of time reevaluating the whole system and made excellent low cost recommendations to keep it in good shape . This has brought my system back up to full power and we are staying cool during this record setting hot summer. They were available to schedule quickly both for the original visit (fair price) and the follow up which I was gratefully not charged.
