"A Hot Water Heater, a Porcelain Toilet, and Six Hours of Labor, for Only $5,000" These are my personal experiences, impressions, and opinions, but I believe they are solid. If I didn't believe that, I would not post them here. I am a retired law enforcement employee, and during most of my decades of service I held supervisory positions. It is thus doubly degrading and injurious, to have some business swoop in, ostensibly operating on honest terms, and then later come to the conclusion that I got thoroughly reamed. This has happened to me once or twice before in my life, and it is very demoralizing: a small piece of your self-esteem dies each time ("How could I have fallen for THAT!"), along with a piece of your faith in humankind. I had a hot water heater that was old, and had suddenly developed a puddle around its base. I also had a toilet with a hairline crack in its tank, causing a few drops of condensation to gather on the bottom of the tank. If you rubbed your hand under the tank, the condensation would leave a few drops of water on your palm. I used marine glue to seal the hairline crack, and that sufficed for ten to fifteen years. I also had in a second toilet a very slight leak; the toilet would constantly run a tiny trickle of water into the bowl, almost imperceptibly. As a rule, since we did not use that toilet much, I simply kept it turned off, unless company was visiting. All three of these appliances were operational, and there was no emergency need to repair them. I nonetheless decided to attempt to get all three appliances examined and brought up to par, replacing the hot water heater and the toilet with the hairline crack, if necessary. At the same time, I planned to have two or three generic hardware items in the second toilet tank replaced, to cure the water trickle. A Furr's tech came, and said repairs were needed urgently to prevent complete appliance failures, flooding, floor damage, etc. He advised I'd get more-or-less market rate costs for the appliances and parts, and market rate labor charges. He talked about how God had greatly blessed me by preventing these three appliances from devolving into disasters for my family. He told me he was going to give me a genuinely generous deal, by tossing in for free a hose or a valve here and there. He called his boss (supposedly), to negotiate the best deal for me. The call lasted a matter of seconds. He swore he was giving me the best possible price for everything he would be doing; he described it as an "unbeatable bargain." He even threatened to leave his "deal" on the table and walk out, if I balked at the costs he was directing my way. He was smooth and slick, jovial and humorous. He ordered a toilet to replace the one with the hairline tank crack; from my careful research, the toilet appears to have cost about $400. The hot water heater he ordered appears to have cost around $900. He hustled me into buying a service plan, mostly in order to benefit from "an immediate discount," and he also replaced the two or three generic toilet tank parts in the toilet that had the small, constant leak. The total cost for materials thus ran around $1,500 (if that much). Roughly an hour was spent by the tech examining my appliances and doing the sales pitch, including doing the service plan hard sell (all of this time was covered under the "free estimate" I was promised). Additional substantive time was spent going to pick up the toilet and the water heater. The tech was in my life for a total of about seven hours, and the final bill was $5,000.00. Deleting out the above-mentioned wasted hour in which the examinations and estimates and sales pitches occurred, and with or without including the driving time to obtain the toilet and hot water heater, that works out to close to $600 per hour in labor costs ($3,500 divided by 6 hours = $583 per hour). Let that sink in: Almost $600 an hour for labor, all of it being performed by one person. To reiterate, these appalling numbers came after I received my immediately applicable "service plan discount," and an additional deduction of $400, when I complained the estimate was still outrageously exorbitant. Without either of those two deductions, the estimate would presumably been around $6,000 for the work done at my house, or about $750 an hour for the labor ($4,500 divided by 6 hours = $750 per hour) . The only other explanation is that the water heater, toilet, and toilet tank parts were marked up ridiculously. It is my distinct impression that the meetings with prospective customers in this kind of situation are intended to start out at price points that are exorbitantly high, in order to end up at lower price points that are still exorbitantly high. Whatever the result, it's all a win-win situation for F.H. Furr. The final cost to the consumer is not "a deal," whatever lines get fed to the customer. Oh how things change... I contacted FH Furr in in early April and couldn't get an appointment for an A/C inspection until May 15th. In the past I'd scheduled things for the next day and I thought that having a Preferred Partner Service Contract with Furr entitled me to "priority service every time I call". That's what their website and the person that sold me the contract said....not true. I was offered some sort of rhetoric from the scheduling representative attempting to convince me that the six weeks I had to wait WAS priority service and the 3 hour window for service was normal. So I wait over a month for my service window of noon to 3pm on May 15th. On May 15 a representative called me at 1130am stating the technician was finishing up a job and would be at my house next. Noon comes and goes...1pm...2pm still no tech. At 2:45pm a representative called me to state that they would not make it by three and I would need to schedule a later window or different day. Unacceptable. I had to wait 6 weeks, take a day off work, and wait three hours to be told "we can't make it?!" Their handling of the logistics involved fell below my expectations...it just wasn't good enough. After A LOT of back and forth about what they could do to make up for their shortfall and allow me a favorable reschedule, we arrived at May 25 with a one hour window. A storm came and there was no electricity on May 25. So I rescheduled to June 1 with a service window from 10am - 11am. I missed a call to confirm the day before at 730pm. The next morning, Saturday June 1, FH Furr starts calling me just after 7am....Wait, 7AM!!!!!!...a little early I think. I missed four calls by 730am and at 8am they left a VM stating I had lost my spot and my appointment would be rescheduled...no tech was coming. All of this before 8am on a Saturday which was just ridiculous. Some people sleep on Saturday...some of us just aren't awake to take calls. It was also VERY unforgiving of them to reschedule me so quickly. They expect me to wait weeks for an appointment and 3 hours for service but they couldn't give me an hour or two to return a call. I question where all this diligence in attention to scheduling was when they blew my entire 3 hour window 3 weeks earlier. Now I'm overwhelmingly displeased. At 930am I'm on the phone with Furr trying to get my appointment back...that was clearly not an option. The best they could do was send a tech later on that day with no estimated time of arrival...not good enough. I refused to give FH Furr any more of my time so after a lot more back and forth I opted to cancel the appointment, cancel the remainder of my service contract for a partial refund, and move on. Now the problem is no one can talk about canceling the contract. Eventually I was transferred to Frieda Wall who I assume was tasked with calming the situation. She did poorly. Her tone was pleasant but her choice of words struck me as both defensive and combative. Phrases like, "that's not entirely true" and "that's not possible", don't deescalate disgruntled customers. She interrupted, spoke over me, and only talked about what she could not do. Eventually she said she would submit a request to somewhere and a person named Nicole would call me back on Monday. Nicole never called. I called back on Thursday and spoke with Nicole to find out they had issued the partial refund....to the wrong card. So to be continued. Bottom line: Don't waste your time and money. Sometimes FH Furr does well but they're mostly overpriced time-wasters that should take a close look at the logistics involved in their scheduling and how they treat the customers that put enough faith in them to purchase their so-called Preferred Partner Service Contract. read more

F.H. Furr easily gets a 5 out of 5 stars review from me. They installed a new HVAC (air handler and condenser, all Lennox) and added two new RETURNS upstairs. They also put in a new NestPro thermostat. To start - they called me when they were on their way. This helped me plan my morning - eating breakfast, making sure that I cleared away any boxes or household items that would be in the way of the installation,- things like that gave me a right start to my day. Prior to that I got an email with the names and pictures of the crew members. This is definitely a positive from a security point of view. When they arrived the first thing they asked me is if I had any pets because they would be opening and closing the door over the course of several hours. Given, I shipped my dog off to the in-laws because any noise is stressful for him, but it was great that F.H. Furr ASKED right off the bat to avoid the situation where a cat or dog runs away. That was considerate and responsible. I am floored with how they were able to do everything within 5-5.5hr, and that included a lunch break. When they were done there was no evidence of work or workers. They put tarps down on everything. I'll be honest in that I assumed paint chips would be everywhere and that a few holes would have been accidentally carved out - nothing like that at all. It was like they were never there, --even the backyard appeared untouched. How is that even possible??? One of the notable things about this company is that they EXPLAIN things, from Sales to installation. The Sales Guy was unlike any sales person I've talked to before - he was asking me what I knew and took the time to ask me questions and also address my own questions. No one has ever raised an issue with the placement of the returns in my home. I am already feeling the benefits of the appropriately placed returns in the upstairs atrium and bedroom which were trapping lots of warm air. I am excited to face the summer in Maryland head on. When the crew was finished, the Lead explained to me the major parts of my new system and walked me through the document (containing parts and model numbers) he was about to send me by email - this was all before I signed off on the document saying that everything was explained. I LOVE my new system already. I would not recommend any other HVAC service. I have dealt with people trying to sell sell sell. I didn't feel like that was the case with F.H.Furr, who really cared. I'm not sure I'll run into a company that is as professional, responsive, and technically astute. UPDATE SINCE THE FIRST DRAFT OF THIS REVIEW: I had plumbing + electrical inspections done in my house after the HVAC installation - every technician was receptive to my questions and addressed all my concerns. Furthermore, the technicians were able to work despite a dog barking behind a closed door for the entire time (each time). The headquarters (in VA) have called me to tell me when a technician might be running late and why - for instance, the plumber was supposed to arrive 8:00-8:30 AM on a Monday to replace the garbage disposal @ the kitchen sink. Someone from the HQ in VA called me to tell me that the technician needed to pick up the part and would be expected to arrive 1-2hr later. This was very helpful for me because I knew when to put the dog away. Yes, fixes and service will cost you more, but you will be happier with not being surprised by a faulty toilet. read more

I am extremely pleased with the services FH Furr has performed. Background: I have had multiple service technicians come via home warranties and I would not recommend any of them. Enter FH Furr. I have been on contract with FH Furr for about 10 years now as a customer, and am finally moving out of my current home. We have kept up with all of the recommended services. I took care of as many of the "easy" ones I could do myself as a homeowner and have had the professionals at FH Furr do the rest. We had our heat pump (old one shook itself to death during an ice storm) and the hot water heater (old one's anode broke and unit was rusting from inside out!) replaced 8 years ago, with no major issues to date aside from normal upkeep. The air handler has worked fine, with the occasional relay or capacitor needing replacement. Customer Service: The call office always answers the phone and immediately transfers me to the correct department. They always give at least a 30-minutes heads-up call that the technician is on their way to my home - very courteous. They will even call back if/when a delay occurs because the technician has to take more time on their current job. The one time I had to leave a message with the manager (Mike), he called me back within 20 minutes of leaving the message! That never happens elsewhere. The technicians all reviewed their notes with me before submitting them and sending them via e-mail immediately. Recent Services: With selling a home comes a home inspector. The one who inspected our home reported many opinions and few facts, enough to scare the buyers into thinking they needed a whole new system! Yikes! So, I called the professionals at FH Furr to come and assess the "issues" the inspector came up with. They were able to come on short-notice and all on the same day, which helped immensely with taking off work and scheduling. They also were able to write up detailed reports of their service inspections that I was able to use to send to the new buyers to put them at ease. HVAC - Chris R. understood the home buying situation and inspected the heat pump system. He repaired a few items that needed taking care of like a faulty relay and wire and he cleaned out our heating coils. He gave excellent advice and upkeep suggestions. His write-up was very helpful in keeping easy-to-understand language of the work done. Electrical - this is a newer service offered, as the service contract only used to include plumbing, heating, and A/C, so I was curious how things would go. Joey D. came to replace a breaker that would not reset (that almost electrocuted the HVAC tech!). He was polite and completed his work in a timely fashion. Plumbing - Shawn Rose came out to assess the status of our hot water heater's expansion tank that was said to be about to bend/break the pipes around it. He inspected the tank and determined it was functioning as it needed and was still up to code, but still ended up putting a strap around it to help satisfy the perceived issue, all without charging us anything for the 2 minutes of labor - he didn't have to do that, but still did knowing the situation. Conclusion: In the end, we have been thoroughly satisfied with their reliable services to date and we will continue to use FH Furr for our new home and the future. read more

There are few words to describe our electrician, Mr. Robert Marcou. Exceptional technical proficiency, methodically analytical, dedicated professionalism, superb persistency, and fiercely customer oriented are just a few that come to mind. This is a long story that I'll keep short. It began on 16 August when our generator went offline and Mr. Marcou arrived to diagnose and repair the problem. I was already apprehensive because just the diagnosis was $250 per hour. As usual, Mr. Marcou arrived on time and based on prior experience with his superior technical knowledge, skill, ability and competence, I figured he'd have it figured out in a couple hours. Less than an hour later he completed his extensive detective work, methodical testing and confirmation of his diagnosis, coordination to order parts and was ready with the cost of repairs. Three weeks later the manufacturer parts arrived Furr on Friday evening 6 September, Furr was offering to make repairs 3 days later on 9 September. I opted for an 11 September appointment and Mr. Marcou was his usual timely self, ready to get to work. After making repairs, he began testing and as he listened, he knew by sound that something wasn't right. After another hour of evaluation and retesting then silence, I'm now concerned. Unknown to me, Mr. Marcou had discovered another problem and contacted the manufacturer for consultation. This resulted in additional testing and discovery of some defective parts. These defective parts caused damage to other parts. The manufacturer insisted it would not be covered under warranty. This is where Mr. Marcou's exceptional knowledge and ability and superior customer care comes in. Mr. Marcou went from being a technical expert who also installs these generators to a fierce customer advocate. Despite the manufacturer resistance, he was undeterred and successfully argued that this $1,300 repair should be covered under full warranty. It should not be a customer responsibility because it was a rare problem that should not be occurring with a 4-year-old generator. I had no idea he was fighting for me. Without his dedicated customer concern, superior technical knowledge, and persistence, I would have incurred that substantial additional repair costs. The parts for the new repairs didn't arrived at Furr until the evening of 27 September with repairs completed on 1 October and my generator working fine. Mr. Marcou also made me aware of an APP Furr offers called TING which monitors the home electrical system that identifies existing or potential electrical issues that are or could become dangerous. Just plug the monitor in, connect to wi-fi and you can monitor in real time and get weekly reports. Really nice. F.H. Furr should be proud to have such a talented electrician and customer oriented professional. F.H. Furr electrical section should be commended for exceptionally quick response to make the repairs when parts are finally received. My apologies to Mr. Marcou for my unavoidable delay in writing this review. We remain committed to our 28-year business relationship with F.H. Furr and Mr. Marcou is one of the reasons for this loyalty commitment. read more

Juan B. responded to a repair request on Saturday, 01/02/15, while on his way home! That alone showed me the dedication of this person and helped lift my impression of F.H. Furr in responding to my needs! He patiently listened to my complaint on the heat pump system that we had recently purchased from F.H. Furr and installed on 12/22/15 and now we were experiencing a major problem! The problem surfaced after a duct cleaning on 12/31/15. That evening, the heat turned on and during the night a smoke detector near the upstairs return went off! Totally freaked us out and after running around determining that the house wasn't on fire, we zeroed in on the inside unit due to the awful smell of something burning and a handful of debris near one of the registers that looked burnt. I used the "chat" on the F.H. Furr website and reported the issue on Friday, 01/01/15. My concern was that something had been damaged on the inside air handler and I wanted the system inspected to insure that it wouldn't catch fire again! On Saturday, 01/02/15, I inquired again via Chat about a response. Within minutes I received a call from the office and got a commitment for someone to come by that day. Juan arrived and discovered the culprit...a piece of aluminum foil sitting on one of the electrical strips! He thoroughly checked everything else out and explained how this sort of thing could occur. I have no issue with understanding how this happened and lay no fault on anyone. The duct cleaning crew were very professional and thorough! I had very dirty ducts! Further, the installers (Frank and Joe) were also GREAT and the installation was smooth and uneventful! The sales person (Rick H.) was also outstanding and really explained in-depth about the major purchase we were about to make and about the warranties plus the need for a great maintenance plan (which I took, thanks to him). Granted, it was New Year's Eve...however, I did expect a call back at least a day later to inquire if everything was functioning! Luckily, we were able to continue to use our system. In ending, thank you for having Juan respond! His professionalism and calm demeanor was very much appreciated! He represented F.H. Furr in an outstanding manner through this trying time! read more

On Friday, I called FHFurr to come urgently to check the a/c which had failed on Thursday, as I'm not well, 90 degree temps were coming on Saturday, and my Home Warranty company's a/c contractors did not respond to the company's request to service my a/c. FHFurr is not a participating vendor, but the home warranty folks had sent me an email indicating that I could retain an outside contractor to diagnose, and then call them for approval of recommended repairs. FHFurr was able to get me on their schedule for Saturday. Russell showed up in the afternoon, and conducted a thorough review of my system, and presented me with his diagnosis as to the problem; essentially, the coil had failed due to age/rust, had iced up after which he found r2 had leaked onto the coil. The coil required replacement. I called the home warranty company and Russell explained the deficiency that he found. Unfortunately, because the FHFurr price was higher than the warrant' approved costs, the warranty company advised that they would approve around half of the costs quoted. Given that they hadn't advised me of a limit in advance, and my poor health, I was furious with the warranty company. Notwithstanding that Russell couldn't do the work for me because of the limitation, he was very helpful to me by speaking with them. He then advised that there was a short term solution to the a/c issue that he could do in order to ensure my comfort over the weekend, until I can work out an agreement with the warranty folks early this week. Before I'd even hung up the phone with the warranty company, Russell had disappeared down to the basement, done a temporary fix, and taken off to his next appointment, sending me an email with an estimate for the full repair and an invoice for the diagnostic. The charge was very fair; the effort was exceptional , professional, and courteous. I'm still haggling, unfortunately, with the home warranty folks, but at least I can breathe again in comfort for a few days while I await an outcome. I hope to be able to use Russell for this work, and more broadly, to use FHFurr for my havoc maintenance once my current maintenance agreement expires. I had a leak, as determined by a high water bill. I started out with a plumber recommended by both the general contractor who practically rebuilt my house several years ago, as well as my HVAC guy. I ended up chasing this unreliable plumber for weeks after he painted a gloom & doom scenario and said he would send a 'leak detector'. Enter, FH Furr. They confirmed the worst case and also suggested a leak detector. I researched online and found one out of Leesburg. Line Locators was a bad choice. Their young worker, though nice enough, guaranteed the marked location. FH Furr quoted me a reasonable price for the repair. But, after removing the bathroom fixtures and digging into my floor and foundation, they found it completely dry--no leak. Line Locators came back out with "more sophisticated" equipment and pointed to a much further location in the kitchen. FH Furr agreed to start over at the new location for a reduced rate. They removed the base of the kitchen cabinet and clearly saw that the lines went into the ground in the opposite direction of the marked location--ie, no lines at the marked location. Line Locators refunded my payment but refused to pay any portion of the bathroom costs, stating that their work is "not an exact science". But the owner did call back and agreed to pay 1/3 of the bathroon costs--not ideal, but fair. FH Furr, however, understood my frustration and recognized my limited budget. The fact that my house is all on one level, on a concrete slab, posed a dilemna. An FH Furr master plumber and his team of plumbers spent several hours examining and brainstorming at my house before proposing a solution that was workable for all of us. They abandoned any idea of drilling at Line Locators' marked location and decided to shut down the leaky line and install new, re-routed lines. Despite that brainstorming time plus 1 1/2 days of work and the additional materials required with the new plan, they stuck to their additional pricing. This was my second experience with FH Furr. Both times I found them to be reliable, very professional, and competitive in cost. This recent experience also proved they are compassionate. Thank you, Bob, Kevin, and team! read more

This was the first time we contacted F.H. Furr to do our HVAC winter check up.....we saw they offered a good introductory offer to check each system, so we went with them. We were not disappointed! The company kept continuous contact with us as the scheduled visit approached....greatly appreciated since some companies never confirm and end up not showing at an agreed time. F.H. Furr gave us a window the technician would arrive, and then contact us one hour out to let us know he was on his way. Perfect! Our technician was Juan Balbuena, and he was the best! We have two heating systems in our home, one in the basement and other other in the attic, and Juan literally spent and hour and a half to two hours on each system, taking his time to conduct a comprehensive technical check of all aspects of their performance. He checked all electrical components, wiring, gas connections, carbon monoxide leakage, airflow, gas burner, blower, and many other areas too numerous to mention. Juan took apart each furnace to disassemble the blower wheel and take them outside to wash and clean. When he was done they looked as good as new. What really impressed me was Juan's passionate approach to his work, and he was sincerely interested in all my questions, and he took the time to explain to me all aspects of what he was looking for and any problems to address. In the end, he cleaned everything necessary, and found no major issues. His only finding was a weak capacitor in one of the units, which Juan explained was not urgent to replace, but was near the end of its life cycle. He made his recommendation, and we ended up replacing the capacitor. All in all, excellent service that gave a comprehensive top to bottom check of our heating systems, giving us peace of mind all is well for the winter. F.H. Furr stands by their service/parts for a one year period. I also learned that F.H. Furr offers reasonable yearly maintenance plans for two visits a year, that covers HVAC, plumbing and electrical throughout the home. Recently I had several plumbing companies provide me with estimates for a water treatment system. The first company came out, filled an Avon bottle with water and said they would be in touch......never heard back from them. The second company sent a guy who was nice and gave me a price right away but didn't seem to know what he was talking about--he told me I needed a water softener and an acid neutralizer without even testing my water!! I then had FH Furr come out. Their guy actually took the time to test my water for hardness and pH on the spot...allowing me to watch and see the results. The pH was nearly perfect so I didn't need an acid neutralizer (woo hoo!) but the hardness was really high as I suspected. He then explained what causes hard water, its effects and my treatment options. He was able to answer every question I had in a very clear and concise manner. They quoted me a price which seemed competitive but I had another company scheduled to give me a final estimate later that day so I didn't agree to it right away. The last company gave me a price slightly less but I decided to go with FH Furr due to their professionalism and honesty and since their price included a Lakos Sediment Filter and a Demand Regeneration Softener. I called them back the following week and they said they would order the equipment and install it two days later. Wow! Two days later they showed up at the agreed upon time and got right to work. Furr also installed the new pump tank in the picture the same day and moved my water heater which was where the softener is now. The softener drain was plumbed and vented into a drain line in the back corner of the room....all of the other companies wanted to run it along the wall above my utility room door (in plain site) and into the laundry tub on the other side of the room. FH Furr did an amazing job and I am happy to report that my new system is currently working perfectly. My wife and I are extremely happy with the price, quality and service we received. read more

I am extremely displeased with F.H. Furr's business practices. We purchased a brand new Furnace and Air conditioner unit from them in 2012 for $6,057. Since then, based on their work recommendations, we will end up having spent $4,146 (70% of purchase cost) just to make sure we have heat in the winter and cool air in the summer. And to think we signed up for their service and maintenance program for $14/month at purchase. They said that that they bill for service by the job instead of by the hour to save customers money. My experience has been the opposite. We have dealt with regular service issues and exorbitant repair fees: 1) About 2 years after purchase, during a routine service visit which comes with the maintenance program we pay for, they recommended installation of a/c voltage surge protector to avoid "costly repairs". We paid $160 for this recommended service. 2) 3 months later, at the height of winter temperatures, our furnace wasn't working and needed repair. Paid them another $167 to replace the ignitor switch on the furnace. Another $200 was charged by them a week later because of their initial misdiagnosis and they determined that the problem was actually a faulty pressure switch. 3) This year, April 2016, a month after a routine service check (from which the FH Furr technician said that he I noticed the pressure was very low and suggested a leak search be performed), our furnace stopped working so we requested service. We paid $395 for replacement of a gas valve. It took him not quite 30 minutes to complete the task yet service fees were $465 (less $69- a 15% "discount" thanks to our $14/month payment or $168/year). 4) Now that our furnace was working, our air conditioner no longer worked. May 2016, the FH Furr technician estimated that we will require ANOTHER $1,956 in repair costs. I want to understand how a brand new HVAC system purchased in 2012, with a service and maintenance program that we pay for, is supposed to result in costing as about 53% of what we paid to buy a BRAND NEW SYSTEM PLUS service and maintenance. So, they did come in the next day to check on my main water shut off and the leaky shower faucet. The valve for my main shut off was frozen and needed to be fixed before the shower faucet could be repaired, since there was no way to shut off the water to my unit in order to fix the leaky faucet. As mentioned previously, FH Furr replaced my hot water heater about 6 months ago. Since it was replaced I did notice a slight drop in water pressure and the water was colder than before the new hot water heater. Anyways, now it has all been repaired and working fine. I do think that the troubles I had recently were at least indirectly related to when the hot water heater was replaced. It seems as though something happened at that time that resulted in the problems I recently had. The plumber that came out last week even mentioned that it seemed as though something may have happened at that time. However, there's no way for me to able to prove this. There were some issues six months ago when the hot water heater was installed. FH Furr brought out the wrong size hot water heater, even though they had came out previously inspect and measure the old one. I am very suspect of their quality and have paid a lot of money recently to have things fixed. I believe that this second round of repairs could have either been addressed at the time of the hot water heater installation, or perhaps even might even be a result of some faulty work done during that time. The combination of bringing the wrong size hot water heater, inconsiderate staff when calling about issues, and having to pay for a repair closely related to the hot water heater so close after installation of the hot water heater all make me very unlikely in recommending them to anyone. Once I my year long preferred customer status is over, I probably won't be renewing with them. I've lived in this area for almost 30 years and have known about FH Furr all the time growing up. Now that i've used them for my own place, I highly dissatisfied with their work and would encourage anyone considering them to go elsewhere. read more

Too Rich For Our Taste. My wife and I recently bought a home near Warrenton, VA. It had not been lived in for more than a year. Some things had been replaced/upgraded since the house was built over 20 years ago. Other things clearly had not. Among the things that had not received any attention were the toilets. Both had flappers that tended to get stuck in the up position once flushed. One also had a steady leak in one of the pieces inside the tank. I resolved that, rather than paying a plumber for multiple trips, I would simply have all the mechanical parts in the back of the toilet replaced. I opened the phone book and started calling the various plumbing companies in the area. I found three that were willing to come out to our house without charging for an estimate: F. H. Furr, My Plumber, and Frugal Rooter. All three came to our door in uniform. All three had trucks with professional graphics. All three wore covers on their boots when they came in the door. All were very professional in their presentations. The technician from F. H. Furr could not have been nicer. He was friendly, professional and explained everything very clearly. The one thing I didn't like was how he kept adding things onto the estimate. All I wanted was to replace the innards of the toilet, but he insisted on giving me an estimate for replacing the whole thing, bowl, tank and all. He also kept insisting on replacing all the valves in our house. While I could appreciate and understand what he was saying about them being "builders' grade" valves, I'm a firm believer in the philosophy that if something isn't broke, you don't fix it. (I still have an old CRT television and have no intention of shelling out the cash for a flat screen until the CRT dies. The same thing goes for the valves.) In the end, we decided not to go with F. H. Furr. Not only did I not like their push to sell me a bunch of stuff I really didn't need, but their prices were the highest of the three. I purchased a new HVAC system from Costco less than 11 years ago. They used FH Furr as the contractor. They installed a new Lennox system and I was generally pleased with the results at the time. I called them the first week of March 2026 because my system was no longer cooling. I made a point of conducting regular maintenance , including changing filters every month and cleaning the coils twice a year. So here is where things went very poorly. The service tech inspected the system and said I had a refrigerant leak. He went on to say that the leak caused the compressor to burn out. I asked where the leak occurred and he explained that my condenser unit was rusted and leaking. He further explained that the connection between the condenser and furnace was a "Frankenstein" install and that this caused the leak. I explained to him that HIS company did the install and found his conclusion very disappointing! He refused to engage in further discussion about his comment and advised me that a repair would be $10k. Here is the amazing part. He switched roles from technician to sales person. He recommended a new system with a price range of 25k to 30k? Wow! I did some troubleshooting before he arrived and shared with him what I did. He told me "you are a really smart guy for doing that". At this point, I realized he was pulling all of his sales techniques on me and decided I was not doing business with him. I told him his prices were too high and would seek a second opinion. He sat at my table for 30 minutes refusing to take no for an answer! Insane! He FINALLY left, I called ARS HVAC and purchased a new system from them for half the price WITH equipment that exceeded what FH Furr offered. Be very careful using this company for anything! MONSTERS do indeed exist. Plenty of them. I contacted this bunch seeking plumbing services. The quality of the work appeared to be average, but it is impossible to say without waiting long term to see how well the work holds up. The value of the work was poor, inasmuch as I consider myself to have been horribly, horribly gouged by the sales techniques employed by an aggressive technician. "Horrible" as in paying two to three times the amount that should have been paid for the work that was performed for me. "Horrible" as in astronomical amounts that I feel I was maneuvered in a very calculated way into paying. "Yadda, yadda, yadda, now sign here or I'm moving on to the next customer." The kind of money that breaks budgets and wrecks lives. The technician appeared to have been taught how to access my home -- ostensibly under the pretense of responding to my request for one of their advertised "free" estimates -- only to then hustle me into huge expenditures. The entire experience came across as greasy, deceitful, choreographed, and skillfully pre-planned. Read the other reviews, both the published reviews and the unpublished ones. Nothing that happened to me was coincidental. The unpublished reviews can be accessed via a link at the end of the "published" reviews. The stink wafting off of the collective reviews will drive you back. Note what appear to be canned responses to most of the complainants. The responses appear to be mere pretenses. Note the common disturbing themes in many of the complaints regarding price gouging, upselling, unnecessary repairs, etc. Read primarily the complaints about their main office: 500 reviews that are published, and a total of 900+ reviews if the unpublished reviews are included. Earlier this week, my furnace was not working properly so I contacted 3 companies, one of which was F.H.Furr. F.H. Furr was the only company that I was able to get in touch with after hours. Although, I sometimes find them pricey with some things, they are a dependable and reliable service. F.H. Furr immediately told me what to expect: 1-We will have tech contact you shortly. 2-The customer rep reviewed what to expect cost wise, since it was after hours. John W. called me, actually very soon, after me calling the main number. We performed troubleshooting over the phone at which point, I then decided that I wanted a tech dispatch for the next day. John W. reviewed the expected costs and process of when to expect a follow up call, etc. The customer rep called me the next morning at the time I was expecting and reviewed what to expect. The process went as described by both the customer rep and John W. I appreciate this very much because I am in customer service and know the importance of setting customer expectations. Luckily, John W. was dispatched to my house. He was very professional and reviewed all of the expected costs per line item. He answered all of my questions, describing the details in terms that I could understand. John W. performed a very thorough job, which I appreciate. I have had many experiences with contractors who only perform a "surface" level job, thus lacking the quality aspect. He also provided me with tips on maintaining my furnace. I found him extremely knowledgeable and helpful, which gave me peace of mind. So overall, I had a great customer experience! He performed a quality job, in a timely manner and was very professional. I would highly recommend him and plan to ask for him again, regarding any future issues. read more

They came to check out my cooling system because I saw water coming from the lower floor near where I kept the Condensate Pump. I asked the guy to check for leaking or any other issue inside the AC since water is draining from the machine itself instead he started talking about membership plan and talking about the advantage and all instead of focusing on the repair part. Finally, I agreed to take the membership as it sounds very promising. For diagnose, he just Adds up to 2 pounds initial refrigerant to system and which was in my backyard saying the leakage is because of low refrigerant in the AC system. after the next day, we went on vacation thinking the no water will be leaking anymore and we are kind of mentally stress-free till suddenly I received a call from my neighbor and complains about water coming from my side of the house. we were freaking out as we are out of town and on vacation and no one if they're to go and check. I call FH Furr but they don't have appointment date available till next week (here is the catch when I don't have the membership they are happy to come at late night and after you already spend money suddenly they don't have an available appointment). Finally, we have to come back from vacation and had someone else look into this and they found the pipe was broken from inside and AC water is pouring out fro their. The fix only cost me 80$ plus visit total 160$ and end. while FH Furr charges 550$ with completely wrong diagnoses and 0% of satisfaction to service. I try to reach out to them about this and they told me someone will return a call which never happens. If I could give 0 stars I would be more happy to post 100 times 0 star for this organization. read more
