Ever since I can remember AIR REF Co. has been our air conditioning company keeping us cool in hot Florida. Even though we are on the ocean our units lasted for their full warranty period of ten years or more! First we went with TRANE ACs and then to Carrier ACs and now back to TRANE units. I purchased my Trane system in August 2023, and my problems began within the first year. Toward the end of 2023, I contacted Air Ref because my home was extremely humid for days at a time, even during the winter. I was told it was my imagination and that perhaps I wasn't feeling well. That was incredibly frustrating and dismissive. Less than a year later, I called again for the same issue--again I was told I was imagining it. Three months later, in the middle of summer, I had no air conditioning. This time there was no denying the problem--it was 88 degrees inside my home. The diagnosis was that the coils needed to be replaced. The stress of waiting to see if Air Ref would cover the labor was immense, but thankfully Trane ultimately picked up the bill. Then, just two months later, the compressor failed. Again, I had to hold my breath to see if Trane would pick up the charge because Air Ref would not. I was so relieved that Trane did. During an unusually cold Florida winter this year, my heat also stopped working. Air Ref was happy to come out and bill me for service. I decided to dress in layers. They would not acknowledge this brand new system that has repeatedly failed. They said, Trane will not do anything else. I am writing this review on a day when it is 92 degrees outside, with a heat index of around 110 degrees, and once again my air conditioner is not working. read more

In 2020 I had my entire system replaced as well as a lot of electrical work (36 hi hats replaced and much other things) Just recently I had a new drain line replaced which should have been done with the new system and grills including returns. After a frustrating experience with Lindstrom Air, I called Air-Ref to inspect my HVAC system. Lindstrom had recently installed a new system but failed to reconnect the fresh air damper. They told me the motor was dead and blamed water buildup on a possible roof leak. Christian from Air-Ref came out and immediately impressed me with his professionalism and technical skill. He correctly diagnosed the issue: the fresh air damper motor was fully functional -- just left unwired by Lindstrom's install crew. He tested the motor, verified the wiring, and safely reconnected the system the way it should have been done from the start. Air-Ref didn't make excuses or try to sell me anything extra -- they simply fixed the problem quickly and thoroughly. They cleaned up a mess that Lindstrom created and made sure everything was working properly before leaving. I bought my new AC with this company & paid extra for maintenance service. It took an extra month past my 6 month schedule to get them out for service. By the time they got here, service person took over an hour trying to clear my drain pipe. He recommended that I get an additional chemical flush for $150, I said I would think about it. When he left , my AC stopped working!!!! So I called; they sent someone out that night who told me I now had a major clog, & needed a new drain pipe bc my pipes were old- over $1000. I called the office the next day & asked to try the chemical flush first. They said sorry the service man told me wrong price for the flush. It was actually $450. I told them to not come back bc I lost trust & would find someone else. read more

We had our AC system installed by Air Ref four years ago. It came with a 10 year warranty, which was one of the main reasons we chose Air Ref and Carrier. This afternoon, the motor in the air handler failed. We live in Florida, and as the parent of two small children, having no air conditioning in the heat is not just uncomfortable, it is unsafe. By the time the technician arrived, the office was closing up (4:50). No one could confirm whether the replacement motor, which is covered under our warranty, was available. The technician offered to sell me a motor for hundreds of dollars to fix it tonight, but the office informed me that doing so would void the six years remaining on our warranty. We were left with an impossible decision. Either go the night without air while our children cried in an 80 degree home, or pay out of pocket and lose the protection we expected from our warranty. The most frustrating part is that the part may actually be in stock today but there is no system in place to verify or release parts after hours. The customer is left to burn. This is more than poor service. It is a failure in process and care. A company that claims to stand for comfort and reliability should never put a family in this position. I hope Carrier and Air Ref take this seriously and make it right. read more

Classic switch and bait contractor. Beware, came out to our place. Made a service call, diagnosed a problem, warranty, repair work. Then sent an invoice and quote for non-warranty work. When they got caught, "oh sorry it was a mistake!" After which, attempted to charge an absorbent rate for a very simple job. We certainly will never use them again!!!!! read more

Air Ref went to bat for me. On a two year old Train a/c system that developed a leak. The original repair quote was $900+. Train denied warranty. Air ref pleaded my case and got Train to cover the entire repair. They scheduled the repair and got us cooled off quickly. read more

I used Air-Ref for the 1st time yesterday for servicing a Trane air conditioner that hasn't worked correctly since we bought our home 2 years ago. I booked the appointment mid morning and the technician , Barrington ( I hope that's the correct spelling) was at our home before 2pm. He was very professional and extremely competent. He worked for almost 3 full hours and was determined to work through all the system failure codes that presented on our control panel. He was clear about the additional charge when the original estimate time was surpassed so there were no surprises. I rarely write yelp reviews but I feel strongly that when someone does a great job and brings a little passion to being exceptional at what they do, they should be recognized. read more

Recently, we had one of our units replaced by a team of installers who were diligent in all aspects as well as cleanliness on property. Worst company and extremely dishonest. Also beware they get deleted bad reviews from other sites somehow. So that 4.9 star average is complete inaccurate. They charged for service call said gas low and leaking. Unit under warranty. Then they said would be additional $200 to find where leak was. NO HVAC company exists that charges for a service call, then wants to charge $200 additional to find where leaking. Not to add gas which was agreed and paid for (overcharged), but then to find where leaking after gas charged. Then shows to door with invoice and told never cleaned drain as agreed and yet on invoice. Told yes he did. Walked together to drain, pipe filled with mildew and debris wasn't touched. Show service guy security camera footage literally showing he walked up to drain with wet vac then walked back to door and presented bill. What a scam. read more

Purchased a Trane AC unit from them because o read somewhere online that Trane was better than Carrier. Well, my 3 Carrier units from Sansone are still working. The compressor on the Trane failed after 2 years and 1 month. The part was covered by the manufacturer warranty but unfortunately the $1100 labor was not. Asked them to split the labor costs with me since compressors should not fail after 2 years. They wouldn't do it. read more

Came to our house, looked at our AC unit and saw an error they didn't recognize, restarted the AC and then left. Charged us hundreds of dollars and literally didn't do anything. Had to get another AC repair company to come and address the issue. read more

IMO, STAY AWAY...move on. There are other reputable companies that can do better. The initial install had issues and a second employee had to modify the job to get it right in December. Their employee wouldn't even stay when the inspector was coming the first time (it failed) and they didn't even come for the second (failure) and third inspection leaving me to waist my valuable time to meet the inspector in April. That's right, it took almost four (4) months to get the permit closed and they tried to collect the full amount in January before the job was even done using some high-pressure tactics from their slick salesman in January. Don't fall for it, just pick another company. IMO, it seemed like the office staff was way overloaded not being able to decipher the permitting requirements of the city/inspector then finally getting it corrected after (3) three months of back and forth with the paperwork. It's really sad at how the salesman sounds so professional and convincing then turns ugly and aggressive to collect without any consideration to you what so ever. Not good. I have been a customer of air ref for over 20 years. I bought a new AC from them 6 years ago. They used to have 24/7 service. So today it was 80 degrees at 5pm. The thermostat read 74 but inside was 80. I called air ref. I have a contract. They could come. TOMORROW. 11-2. I said I can't be here. He said Want to try another day? I said are you kidding. What about tomorrow. 8-8:30am. Nope. Guess what? I called my house sitter. He recommended an AC person. He was there by 6:30pm. Drain was clogged badly. I thanked him and told him how much I appreciated his wonderful service. It's now cool in here. AIR REF. YOU ARENT THE SAME COMPANY. YOUR SERVICE IS VERY DISAPPOINTING. I WAS A WONDERFUL CUSTOMER. Big shout out to Air-Ref Co and their technician, Aaron. I started doing business with this company about two years ago and they never fail to disappoint. Extremely responsive, always on time and always profesional. About 6 months ago I signed up for the yearly maintenance program, which was priced very reasonably and when it came time for my first service call, they actually had to chase me down to schedule the appointment. They never gave up and eventually got me scheduled. My first technician was Aaron and he was a pleasant, knowledgeable and profesional young man. No detailed was spared, down to cleaning my air filters. He communicated during the entire process and made me feel at ease with my decision to buy the maintenance plan. I will never go back to this company again. I purchased an AC from Ambassador, which eventually became Air-Ref. When it was time for it to be serviced, it took Air-Ref 4 times, charging me each time with a service fee each time, and one coil replacement, and I'm still out of a functioning AC. I'm so very disappointed with the warranty that they put in their work. Each time they come out, it's only to patch things up, like refilling the coolant, but not to fully diagnose and root-cause the issue. I'm ditching this company for good and going with someone else. I have used Air-Ref on occasion to fix/service my A/C. It's a newer unit and the company that sold it, no longer services it.... go figure. I called Air-Ref to fix it and they suggested getting a service contract, which I did. They come on regularly schedules to perform standard maintenance. I called today, it was not running right. Intermittent on and off and the house was getting warm. I called Air-Ref. they were here within 1.5 hours and fixed the clogged drain, no problem AND the service guy was even smiling!!! Our A/C unit decided to quit working on a Thursday night @ 11:00pm. All I could think was that there was no way we'd be able to get it fixed before Monday. But I decided to call and leave a message so maybe we could possibly get it fixed ASAP. I was expecting to have to leave a message on a machine then get a call back whenever. I was pleasantly surprised when someone actually answered the phone....It was 11:30 PM! I told them t he problem and they said someone would get back to me the next day around 8am. Well, at exactly 8:05am I got the phone call telling me someone would be arriving between 10:00am & 1:00pm. But I got a call @ 8:38 from the A/C tech that he would be arriving in 30 minutes!!! He found the problem quickly fixed it and explained what happened. I was very impressed. The price was definitely reasonable and worth every penny. Company is a scam. Their tech caused damage to purposely allow the motor to go bad so he would have to come back and also fix that. Based on his comments and this happening I chose to go with another company. When they came out they found the wire to the motor disconnected still which caused the burn out. I wrote the company and they were nasty in their response, refused to remedy the situation and said thanks for your business. I told them I'd be writing reviews and they didn't care. Do not use this company. They have now just lost 4 communities run by the same people bc of this. Took advantage of a single mom in a bad situation with 0 remorse and I'm livid. CONSUMER BEWARE! I read the reviews like everyone else and always like to patronize my local businesses. I called Air-Ref because my AC was not blowing any air, but my outside unit was running (July 11). They sent out a technician who identified that I needed a new blower unit. I am not the original owner of the home, so the AC warranty is cut in half and this replacement was not covered at a cost of close to $1000. Everything checked out and my invoice was neatly itemized and notes were specific that were made by the technician that EVERYTHING checked out. 5 weeks later, my AC was not blowing air again, same issue. When I placed the call to request a technician, I was told that I would be responsible for any additional charges not related to the original problem. This is where you need to pay attention folks! The technician decided that I needed my unit flushed at a cost of an additional $155. I immediately called the company, requesting to speak to someone, because the reason this technician gave me for the issue was that "Anything can happen in 5 weeks". None of this made any sense, he was hardly here long before he decided to pivot and find a reason to charge for the visit. I was told that the "Service Manager" was not available, that I would be receiving a call within 24 hours. 24 hours went by, I called the company again, and was told that someone would get back to me within the week. I did however, receive an email invoice, with no itemization as with the first service visit. Nothing happened for an additional week, yet I called them back to try to connect with someone. I even attempted to respond to the note on the emailed invoice- "reach back out if I have any questions or comments about this billing statement" and the office staff apologized for the delay and responded that my inquiry would be sent to the "Service Manager". I then realized that this must be a standard company policy, to find another reason to charge a service visit, when possible. I confirmed my suspicions a week and two after this line flushing charge, my AC unit stopped blowing again. Like the first time, I shut the unit down, as my outside unit was running with no air blowing and it was a weekend, so I didn't want to incur after hours charges. After a couple of hours, my son who came home saw the unit turned off, and switched it back on and the AC blower worked. This happened one additional time, so something with the blower was not connecting. When I was finally able to talk with the "Service Manager", ( mid October - 6 weeks later), he said he would look into it. On November 4th, I received an email stating that there was nothing he could do and the charges/invoice stands. I have since filed a complaint with the Florida BBB, this is unacceptable and very bad business practices. This is a matter of ethical business practices, which this company does not have. I do want to note, the office staff had been nothing but polite, patient and supportive, this is a Management problem. READ THE BAD REVIEWS - they are REAL! read more

Wish I could give less than 1 star. Save yourself time, money, and heartache and call any other air conditioning company. This company has horrible customer service, does not follow industry standards, has no accountability, and other specialists have warned me not to use them. The Air-Ref technician came to my house to repair the unit in my attic and in the process of working on it, he let GALLONS of water flow through the attic ceiling and onto my floors. The floors and ceiling were dry before he came except for the small leak from the unit, but after he worked on the unit my attic ceiling was ruined and he made a huge mess on the floors below, which he did not clean up. The Air-Ref technician left my house in such a hurry that he did not clean up the mess he caused, did not tell anyone about the damage he caused, and even left some of his equipment in the attic where he was working. Unfortunately I have had nothing but frustrating experiences with this company. Each time I call for service, the techs are unable to fix the problem the first day. Warning, after calling them back and scheduling another appointment they will attempt to charge you for a service call for the second day. This has happened three times in the past year and a half. Today I was told that the air conditioning unit was working just fine by the supervisor, but I cannot get it to cool under 73 degree, although the unit is set at 65. $45 service call for that advice. After trying to explain the situation further to the the supervisor Andrew, he hung up on me. I have been told by the techs that the management and the dispatcher are very hard to work with. Had a new AC unit installed. Fantastic experience from beginning to end. Researched and got several quotes. Air Ref was right in range. David explained my options. He was professional, knowledgeable, and very pleasant. I never felt any pressure. Got an appointment for next day installation after signing the contract. The 3 men who installed the unit were great. Took about 7 1/2 hours. Also professional and efficient. Cleaned up the area beautifully. Believe me, it looked better after they were there. I did not have a cover for my attic crawl space in the garage and they offered to cut a piece of insulation to fit in the spot. That is going above and beyond. read more

This company is very dishonest. We paid them in advance for a maintenance contract and when they misdiagnosed an issue with our new AC, we asked for a full refund of our monies. They refused too give us a full refund and we ended up paying someone else to resolve. Please look somewhere else for your AC needs.
