I was visiting Chicago for the 1st time last week and decided to put this on my list of things to do before my full weekend and excursions got started. I was greeted very warmly, pleasantly and professionally by Molly. Then I was transferred over to spa professional Tichina. She was very warm, bubbly and helpful. While I did not have a service she still took the time to provide me with a thorough tour. I utilized all amenities and enjoyed myself. I truly felt relaxed. Also liked the tea area and trail mix which was jut enough. I do look forward to returning and trying a service in the future. Only suggestion--I truly came for the steam room and relaxation. The steam was perfect except it the equipment can be checked out as when the mist would automatically come on during the process, the machine would make a loud, boom sound. My daughter and I scheduled a massage here and the massage therapists were wonderful. Staff was very friendly when we arrived to the spa area and the space was very quiet and tranquil. I enjoyed the transition room where water, tea and nuts were available. Staff showed us the locker area which included a thick robe and slippers. This spa experience felt like a magical dream. As soon as you enter their facilities downstairs and you walk through their doorway you are transported into a zen filled space that hugs you within. You are greeted with a warm smile as they check you in and given gentle directions where you can change in their large facility into your robe and slippers. Then they guide you to where you can go to wait to meet your masseuse. It was a last minute booking and the last slot for an evening massage. It wasn't long at all before my smiling masseuse came to come and get me. Before I knew it I was laying face down getting the most relaxing massage I've had in a long time. This place serves at a high end level of excellence. My masseuse was very professional and just knew the perfect level of pressures to get all the knots, kinks, and stress print up on my back. This place lifts and floats you away from the business of the outside world and the whirls that swirl around inside your head. Highly recommend the spa at the JW Marriott! From the moment we arrived, the experience was great. We were welcomed with plush white robes and comfortable black rubber sandals. After securely storing our belongings in lockers, we were guided to the serene lounge area to relax before our services. My partner and I booked the Couples Journey, which was the perfect indulgence. It began with a full-body scrub, followed by 25 minutes soaking in a luxurious infinity tub with lavender Epsom salts, and finished with a heavenly 60-minute massage. I had Javier as my therapist, and he was absolutely phenomenal, one of the best massages I've ever had. His technique and pressure were spot on. My partner had Elizabeth, who was also excellent and very sweet she made us feel so comfortable and thoroughly explained everything. After our treatment, we returned to the lounge where we were offered light snacks, tea, and water. Once refreshed, we each headed to the wet lounge, which features a sauna, steam rooms, and showers. I personally loved the steam room and spent most of my time there, although I did notice the sauna wasn't heating properly during our visit. The spa was overall very clean and well-maintained. However, I echo a few other reviewers in saying the bathroom could use a bit more attention. I decided to do a upscale spa day and went with this spa. They greeted me with a refreshing elixir to start. I was then given a tour by the spa assistant. After the tour I went to change into my robe and slippers and waited for massage. My massage therapist was very good. I get a massage once a week so I have alot to compare it to. I was having a hard time with the locker and had to call the spa attendant a time or two and I felt she was irritated with me. Have patience and understanding when I'm paying this kind of money. It's high end so your staff must act the part if I call and ask for help 100 times . I may come back but it some more spas that I'll try first. I enjoyed my day minus a little hiccup. read more

Beautiful spa and experience. I had the hydrafacial and express manicure. One thing to know about the express manicure is this service doesn't include cuticle clipping, which was just fine for me, but I wanted to mention for others looking forward to a trim. They have a nice selection of colors and I really like the color I chose. Anna was my manicurist and she was just lovely. I then did the hydrofacial with Cecilia. She was so sweet and informative. I really enjoyed the exfoliation procedure and having led light therapy for the first time. However, I still have blackheads around my nose. She did some extractions but she didn't do them all unfortunately. It was pricey so not sure I would repeat this particular facial but I would try others with Cecilia. My only comment is the bathrooms were not as clean as I would expect for a spa. The floors seemed to be dirty and linty. Otherwise, this was a beautiful spa and experience. read more

I'm having an INCREDIBLE experience at the spa! Marla, was so KNOWLEDGEABLE and PROFESSIONAL! She helped me at the front desk as I was deciding what type of massage I should get. She suggested I added hot stones and a muscle treatment and I don't think I'll be able to have it any other way. Javier, my massage therapist was also KNOWLEDGEABLE and PROFESSIONAL! He inly had 50 minutes and let me tell you... HE MADE IT HAPPEN! He used a technique I haven't experienced before, and it allowed my muscles to loosen with ease! Not only are you apparently obligated to pay a 25% tip, but a 90-minute massage here is only 80 minutes, and WAY overpriced ($280!!?), and even worse, the basics sucked: the showers were horrible. One shower, after more than 5 minutes was still running ice cold, (the waste of water stressed me out), one shower was barely Luke-warm, and one shower was scalding or freezing--nothing in the middle. I suppose using this spa might be worth it if you are going to avail yourself of the sauna, steam room, and pool, but even that is iffy. I absolutely recommend this spa. I love how no matter the service book you're able to stay at the spa for as long as you like similar to day pass. You can order food here or leave and come back. Anna gave me an awesome manicure. The prices are affordable and 25% gratuity is automatically added...of course you can give additional tip.The robes and shoes fluffy clean sanitized. The entire staff is pleasant from when you're greeted upstairs to immediately after getting off elevator to spa entrance lower level. The spa front desk lady was super nice as well I forgot her name. I went end of year just remembered to give review. I plan on visiting at least twice a month. I definitely recommend and will try haymon bath next. The sauna & steam room pool are great. We wanted to celebrate our anniversary with a relaxing weekend and kicked it off the right way. For about $265 per person, the Couples Lux Massage comes with your own private room. In the room is a nice sized infinity bath tub for you and your partner to soak in for 25 minutes while enjoying chocolate covered strawberries and a glass of champagne for each. You get your privacy for 25 minutes and enjoy the tub. You get to decide if want to wear your swimsuit or go in your birthday suit lol. 5 minutes prior to the time ending, the masseuse will knock to let you know it's time to get out the tub and lay on the massage table. Each person gets their own masseuse and they will discuss with you which areas of your body you want them to focus more on and how much pressure you want applied. The massage was wonderful! I asked my masseuse to focus on my shoulders and my feet. I was in that perfect space of being relaxed enough to be on the verge of falling asleep but still awake enough to enjoy the relaxation of the massage that I was getting. Each person gets about a 50 minute massage. Afterwards you get to enjoy the amenities that the spa offers such as the sauna, pool, and the lounge. Hubby and I just decided to have some more hot tea and snacks in the lounge and lay on the couches for a few more minutes before we got dressed. We had the Lux Couples spa and really enjoyed it! We were at the spa for almost four hours-- there were definitely some cons I will list below for transparency, but for us personally the pros were enough to make it to a five and a great day retreat. Booking: online experience was very easy, and they had lots of availability when we booked a month out (most other places we considered did not, or had additional extreme weekend fees). Gratuity is include in check out price, though I can't remember if it actually said gratuity or they just confirmed when we got there it was included in the prices. Employees: extremely personable and friendly, really make you feel like you are honored guests some where special and they encourage you to make use of amenities. Pool: definitely recommend going there before treatment, not after, because while we enjoyed it since it's winter and we love pools (got there an hour early for it) it was definitely not tranquil. It's part of the hotel, so lots of little kids, and it's SUPER echoey. Not much they can do about kids on a Saturday afternoon, but they could put up a sign banning under 18 in the hot tub and put some sort of noise dampening on the walls. Bring your own plastic bags for swim suits-- there is no drying machine or bags readily available, though I didn't ask if they could bring me one. Fitness room: didn't use it, but was empty and looked like it had a good variety of machines. I also know from Class Pass they have some classes, not sure if you can attend for free or pay extra if at spa. Locker room: was very empty, quiet, and appeared that hotel guests just using the pool weren't allowed in there, didn't see any kids. Includes great steam room and sauna, fantastic giant showers (with private entry ways you could put stuff and it would stay dry), drinking spa water/cold scented hand towels/ hair dryer/combs/hair spray/mouth wash/razors/body moisturizer/cotton swabs/feminine products/deodorant. Comfy robes! Locker room cons: Does not include hair iron, curler, de-linting rolls, make up remover or make up samples (had really chapped lips after so much heat and was spoiled from my visit to Kohler spa where they offered samples from beauty salon). Biggest issue was that they put new fresh towels in the showers which SHOULD indicate which are clean, but found huge very visible hair glob in shower drain-- yuck'! Fortunately the slide shoes you are provided are rubber and work in showers. Relaxation room: comfy, tranquil music, tasteful art, and they have two small rooms they try to divide guests between so not that crowded. Had snack mix, chocolate covered almonds, whole fruit, chamomile tea, black tea, green tea, and spa water. We spent time there before and after treatment and did not feel rushed to leave. Luxe couples treatment part 1: really cool bath tub, bath salts available, rose petals, chocolate covered strawberries and champagne (this is an add on) incredible romantic experience that makes this very unique! Bath is 25 minutes, but felt much longer, didn't feel rushed and they gave us five minute warning knock when time to transition to next step. Treatment part 2: we got 50 minute massages plus he got foot add on and I got scalp treatment. These were incredible, the massage therapists are incredibly talented! I will say that while we like the foot add on and scalp, I don't think they come with extra time (in our case, I think with individual massages you have option to add time with them or have during normal time) and while they were fun to try, probably not really worth it every time given how great the massage was. read more

I came here to get a no-chip manicure. The staff was super friendly and helpful throughout the whole visit. The entire facility itself was incredibly clean. Unfortunately, I don't think their specialty lies in long-lasting no-chip manicures. While the process of getting the manicure was fine and they used quality nail and skincare products, the manicure itself wasn't the best I've had. There were several minor imperfections around the edges, the polish had been applied on my cuticles, and despite receiving 3 coats, the coats were super thin. The no-chip gel manicure I received started chipping after 5 days, and was peeling off after 1.5 weeks (I did no heavy work with my hands to prompt this). For the slightly above-average price, I would have been better off going to a nail salon. So if you're looking for a spa experience and not a long-last no-chip manicure, this is a fine place to go. But if you're looking for a no-chip that will actually last for a few weeks, I would go to a nail salon. read more

Had an amazing experience here with my sister I took her as a birthday treat and brought my Nieces with me as well. Although kids cannot enter the spa area by the locker rooms and steam room etc we were allowed to swim and get our nails done. My sister and I switched off with the kids to take a turn each to the spa area. They have a nice seating area up front where we could wait. Towels and water were complimentary, towards the end my niece got a little cranky the nail technician went to the back and got her chips and an orange we were extremely grateful. Not a fan, and was underwhelmed... this should have rocked but at best is oookkkayyyy. Firstly the greeting and reception were ice cold - an esthetician and the receptionist. It matched the feeling of taking the elevator on the far side of lobby and descending to the LL. It was not a soothing ride or reception. The "spa" itself is small and laid out poorly with massive but empty retail space off the lobby- total waste big space- again, poorly laid out. There are two issues IMHOP which drive the rating down... poor lighting and the fact that this is more a dual use space... spa and fitness club. There were loud kids everywhere! The pool and hot tube are not, ARE NOT part of the spa, it's just the fitness center of the hotel - nothing more. Adds nothing, so don't consider the access part of a relaxing spa experience! Secondly, the lighting is awful. It's inconsistent at best has totally ruins the effect of a spa experience. It's starts in the "preparation area" which is a locker room. Starkly white, starkly lit and not relaxing in the slightest much less well prepared. This bad lighting continues into the the therapy rooms.... stark white, dimish, and NOT warm at all. It's dirty to boot from the locker-room to the rest rooms! You also get to start your relaxing off by hunting solo for a locker that's actually open, much less setup for the spa with a robe and slides. Took me 18 attempts to find an open locker then another 5 to find one with a robe. Again, spa...? No...gym locker room. No attendant. Lastly the treatment experience themselves, are also greatly diminished because even though your in the spa, and have likely very well planned your services, you up sold constantly even to the point where your the chair... not exactly the experience of serenity desires, have to constantly fend off the sales pitch beyond the reception desk. For the cost which were significant, this was all utterly disappointing and utterly banal.... nothing like I would expect from a JW Marriott. This was not a relaxing nor spa like. I wish we could get our money back it was that sad. read more

My friend and I purchased a spa pass for the day. We were greeted and given a tour. They have a high quality fitness room with all types of equipment, spacious locker room, soft robes, nice towels, complimentary brushes and toiletries. I noticed how clean they kept all areas. The overall kindness of the staff (shout out to Patricia) made me feel at ease right away. We used the infrared sauna, steam room, showers and whirlpool. All excellent. After our champagne (included with the pass) we took a break in the lounge area. Complimentary fruit, almonds, teas and nice relaxing music. This is a hidden gem and I do recommend this spa. This review is as a Spa Member at the JW Marriott - I am a member and I get access to the gym, unlimited classes, and special member pricing on their spa services. There are a lot of benefits to this place! - Newly renovated gym (fall 2018) with counters for the reps you do on the weights - Lockers with digi locks, robe, and sandals - Sauna and steam room - Hair dryers, qtips, cotton pads, hair combs, mouth wash - Pool and hot tub - Fruit (seasonal but usually bananas, apples, pears, sometimes oranges, peaches, plums), nuts, tea with lemon and honey - Fruit infused water, or bottled water The classes here are on a limited schedule. There are no early morning classes, some 45 min lunch classes and 1-2 evening classes at 5:30pm. I recommend coming here if your schedule works with that, or classpass. These classes are very small (6 people would be considered a large class). I've sometimes have had one-on-one classes. But this really allows you to have a better relationship with your instructor. There are complimentary yoga mats, blocks, straps, and weights so you never really have to bring anything to class. However, this isn't a yoga studio. So don't expect a hot yoga class. The gym itself is never too busy. It's newly renovated and the crowd seems to be of business people traveling for the week. The hotel is in the middle of downtown, so it's not super full of Chicago residents, but random hotel guests. The staff is super friendly and in a good mood. Never had I had an experience with them being rude or unhelpful. They are good about emailing class schedules weekly, and notifying members of any changes, construction, etc. read more

I had nothing short of an amazing time here. Firstly, if you've never been here before, check in on here, and you can receive a coupon for a complimentary glass of champagne. The waiting lounge was very relaxing and a great mental prep, offering large, comfortable seating and offering drinks (fruit-infused water, tea, coffee) and light snacks to bide the time. I was fortunate enough to have two services completed here: the Signature Massage and the Hammam Luxe Experience. The massage was so relaxing that I felt asleep, but while awake, the masseuse was very attentive and inquisitive to what I wanted for the massage. The Hammam, similar to a Turkish bath ritual, was a new experience, but was very fun. The Marriott here is believed to be the only place to offer this service in the entire state. The service calls for your hair to be washed with Moroccan oil - you can opt out of that if you like. The entire day was a huge treat, and the employees added to that, whether it be keeping the spa tidy, replenishing drinks, or catering to requests. read more

I've been ClassPass'ing here on the regular and I really like this place. My first class here was yoga; I liked, but didn't love it. It's Natalia's classes that keep me coming back. Natalia teaches Upper Cut and Kickboxing. She's a badass and her classes are fun, but challenging; I'm really bummed that she's going to be leaving in a few weeks. While I like yoga, punching something is the best tension and stress reliever there is. Classes are usually on the smaller side - 2-6 people and a mix of ClassPass-ers and gym members. In addition to the class rooms, there are also a good number of bikes, treadmills, free weights, and machines. The spa's amenities are great; the lockers have robes and flip flops and there are lots toiletries and extras for anyone using the spa. There's pretty much anything you might need. If you're looking for a place to workout in the loop, this place is worth checking out. read more

If you are a commuter downtown and looking for a convenient, super clean 5 star facility then you have come to the right place. Benefits: - the gym has both free weights and machines along with ample cardio equipment. - there is a yoga studio that also holds complimentary fitness classes. The schedule for the spa is emailed every weekend. - the indoor pool is small but almost always empty given this hotel caters mostly to the business types. - the bathroom is the spa bathroom so a lot cleaner than a regular gym with shaving amenities, hair spray, hot towels etc. - complimentary fruits( apples and bananas) as well as water bottles are provided. - you usually have a lot of room, peace and quiet during non peek hours. - you get your own personal locker with a code so can leave your stuff there. - you get a discount for Spa services as a member. - hot Sauna and steam rooms are included. Cons: - I could have potentially taken a star out given the gym can get pretty busy during peek hours (early morning, after 5 and during lunch times) because this facility is also used by hotel guests. This however, does not mean that the bathrooms would be full given the hotel guests don't tend to use those facilities. I'm paying $89 per month and received a discount on my initiation when I mentioned that I work across the street. Couples journey. I brought my fiancé here for the couples journey as it was her 30th birthday and was stressed from wedding planning. It was a really big day that I wanted to be perfect. The package started we placed our champagne by the infinity pool as instructed, to receive our scrub which was heavenly. The next step was to rinse the scrub in the most inviting infinity tub we have ever seen. Unfortunately, while attempting to get into the dimly lit tub, my fiancé kicked a champagne glass into the tub shattering the glass into the water. We were both devastated. She cried a little bit. I felt awful. After searching for someone to help us for a while, they let us know that we would be moving onto the massage as there is no other tub and it would take to long to refill. The massages were amazing and the staff was great which is why they get two stars. My issues are with management. Had they offered to fill the tub for us if we came back for another couples massage or had made any attempt or offered a $50 off our next visit I would have been pretty happy with thier effort. Instead we got out on one of our activities paid the full $640 for the two massages and got the, tough shit and sorry our steam room and a few stalls are down in the lookeroom attitude. Don't get me wrong we broke the glass it was an accident and that's on us, it just was a big let down. read more

However, when I am advised that there is a MANDATORY 25% AUTOMATIC GRATUITY ADDED TO THE BILL, then I take issue with that. I'm a Marriott rewards member, which means that when I travel I stay at a Marriott 99% of the time. I took my wife to the JW for her birthday and got a couples massage for the morning. The accommodations were okay. The waiting room was more of a holding area and not some place that made you feel welcome and where you could truly relax. Maybe I've been spoiled by other places like Kohler. Overall, I felt like we were rushed from place to place - again, it's supposed to be a relaxing event. As to the massage, the hot stones were nice, but I felt like she might have been digging them into my hips a bit. I flinched once and she lessened the pressure, but 6 hours later and my hips hurt. Both of them. The heated tables were nice and the warm towels on my feet afterwards were a special treat. All-in-all, I can't see myself going back there. read more

Came to the Spa at JW Marriott for my birthday today and booked a couples massage. We had purchased two travelzoo vouchers and paid an additional $15 per person ($30 + gratuity) for use of the couples massage room. Unfortunately the upcharge doesn't come with anything other than the privilege to use the room. Due to traffic to Chicago, we arrived right at our appointment time. So we hurriedly got changed and were in the room 5 minutes late. They did not offer to extend our time so we only received a 45 minute massage despite having NO ONE else in the spa. In the waiting area, there are nuts and whole fruits. It seems odd that there are no finger foods like dried fruit or granola or cookies that I see at a lot of other spas. Seems a bit messy to try to eat whole mandarin orange or apple. Once you walk into the treatment room, they try to uspell you on add ons for your massage with a menu card that they hand you. That seemed a bit tacky for a high-end spa and I've never seen this done anywhere else. The massage itself was okay - I specifically asked for a relaxation massage, and most of it was fine, but she focused a LOT on pressure points which are definitely not relaxing. Then when we were done, they wished me a happy birthday but did NOT offer a glass of bubbly (which is inconsistent with another yelp review). In the locker room, there was a distinct mildew smell near the carpeted locker area and there are no amenities inside your locker. No tray for jewelry, no hair ties, no disposable undies. And when you're taking a shower, the water pressure and temperature fluctuates a lot which makes for an unpleasant experience - one minute the water was hot, the next it was cold, and hot again. Anyway, while the price I paid through travelzoo was alright, I feel that the overall experience was very underwhelming. Not sure if I would return given the other spa options in Chicago like the Peninsula. BUT on the bright side, valet parking with validation was only $15. This is a FANTASTIC Spa. Great clean facilities and friendly and helpful staff. I would highly recommend to anyone. I've come here twice. If you get a spa service or go to one of their fitness classes or are a hotel guest you have access to all of their facilities. This includes robes and shoes, towels, soaps and shampoos, deoderint, hair brushes, razors/shaving cream, anything you would need to get ready. They have infused water practically everywhere and they are awesome at making infused water. I didn't even like infused water until I came to this spa. Every single employee is exteremly nice and helpful. The pool area is average but I enjoy sitting in the long chairs or going into the hot tub. They also have a steam room and a sauna. The showers are huge and have great water pressure. They also have a changing stall attached that are very roomy. It is actually enjoyable getting ready for the day at this spa. Normally showers feel cramped and uncomfortable and you always forget something that you need, not here! I had a deep tissue massage and it was fantastic! The perfect amount of pressure and great attention to detail. I felt so much better after the massage. My mother also raves about their facials which I will try the next time I come here. read more

The central location is unique, and from the moment I entered the Spa, the team members made me feel special, and the Elevated Healing CBD Massage was divine. Absolutely love the JW, but it is on the pricey side. The spa's located in the basement and stretches from one end of the building to the other. Inside you have mens/ womens locker rooms and two relaxation lounges. The lounges have tea, coffee, and small snacks which is great if you want a bite to eat before or after your treatment. I got a 90 min massage and a pedicure afterwards. The massage was heavenly and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to unwind. The mani/ pedi area is on the smaller side and can feel stuffy. The pedicure itself however was pretty great and has held up for over a month so far. Taking away one star for price, but other than that the JW is a spectacular spa. read more

Had an amazing time here this morning with my fiance! He had a massage and I had the All About You treatment - and what a treat it was! Alina did an amazing job getting rid of tension and when I left, my skin felt super smooth! We also had a great conversation and she gave me some great TV recommendations that I'm already loving. The relaxation room had a great selection of Mighty Leaf teas, infused water, fresh fruit, and rosemary roasted marcona almonds. The steam room and infrared sauna were wonderful too, and I'll be sure to bring a swimsuit next time so I can check out the whirlpool. It was the perfect way to spend a chilly winter morning. Afterward, we popped up to the Florentine on the hotel's second floor for a yummy brunch. Already looking forward to the next time we get to go back! read more

I decided to do a little luxuriating bc I was bored on Easter weekend. Walk in and you forget you're in the loop next to the El tracks. Reception area smells lovely and the staff greets you with a smile. They take you to locker area and take you on a tour. They take you to the lovely large lounge area (so you aren't on top of one another while waiting or relaxing pre or post service). Lovely teas and water and fruit and nuts. I like that they have various seating options. Also magazines galore. Totally soundproofed once in rooms. The hallway to to the massage rooms were spacious so even if it was a busy day you can't tell. You can do add ons once you arrive and they have a good deal on that. I got the deep tissue massage and added the scalp massage which was wonderful. Koko did an amazing job. Immaculately clean shower and locker rooms and bathrooms. Super big soft fluffy towels. Perfect robes. Great products. Huge changing areas in each shower. Showers also very large. Great water pressure. Sauna and steam rooms lovely. Next time I'll use the pool and stuff too. For the cost totally well worth it. I've gone to other fancy hotel spas and this was my fave one (mandarin oriental in dc, w in Atlanta, w in dc, etc). read more

Amazing spa, the massage is soooo relaxing and I fell asleep! Definitely recuperated from all day touring and walking the Chicago land lol. Wish I had more time to enjoy the facility but I have a flight tonight so I had to leave. Will definitely be back when I come to Chicago again! read more

My visit here yesterday was an incredible experience. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I thought it was worth a try since I live nearby. What surprised me the most is just how expansive the facilities are. Not only is the locker room rather large (digikeys for the win), but there is also a nice prep area, wet lounge, and transition room. The only thing missing from the prep area are styling products (only hairspray is provided if you're planning on blow drying your hair). The wet lounge includes large showers, a steam room, and a sauna. The transition lounge provided high-quality teas with lemon slices and honey in addition to infused water. Whole fruit and nuts were also complimentary. As for the service itself, I highly recommend the signature massage with hot stones. My therapist, Eve (if I'm remembering correctly), was incredibly professional and facilitated a relaxing experience. The rooms were much larger than I expected as well. I can't wait to return - especially now that I see they have a Yelp check-in offer. read more
